Nice to see you, glad to see you are inspired by the plank challenge, have fun with it.

Not doing much outdoor walking yet but have got 5000 steps so far walking on the spot on the step bench during commercial on a show I streamed, ads are there because I don't subscribe to the particular network. So got 5000 steps watching the Good Doctor and I will be watching a movie with ads as well. Hoping to hit 10000 before 3pm. I do 1000 steps each commercial break, makes it easy to sit and also walk at the same time.

    Mara, happy thanksgiving 🍁

Hello fitness friends, I’ve been a little behind but I am trying back on track. Walking as usual, helps me a lot to control stressanxiety. How is plank challenge going?

Since I cannot get up of the floor right, I am not attempting the plank.

Snowdrop, glad you have kept up the walking. Today's walking is just a 15 minute leslie sansone after meals, was going to go out but do not feel like it so this is a good compromise, she offers a fast pace that I even require pulling out my slower exhales to avoid get winded. Nice day though so far.

Well, I did a first today in my apartment. I normally will walk on the spot for 1000 steps and wait a while and walk another 1000 to get up to 10000 goal. Today I decided to provide myself a good workout since on the spot walking is much faster and able to really move the arms. I put down a yoga mat and walked up and down it and when I got tired would sit for a minute or grab water, not long enough to really cool down. Then I would go back to walking. I managed to hit my 10004 steps in 1h21 minutes with very few rest breaks and sweat buckets while doing this. I know this is flat but I am thinking that I could do something like this first thing and do other stuff in the daytime. This was the equivalent of 4.11 miles and a much more demanding workout than walking is for me at this point. Worst noise I heard was some floor squeaking but the foam mat absorbed any other noise, proud of myself for once. Getting ready for snow I think.

Well, first 10000 steps done, on the spot, marching on a yoga mat. Liking the 10000 steps this way because it is easy to get them all done at once. Also similar to the marching I used to do as a teenager when I decided to lose my chunk. Really did slim down but did that for hours, SIL was always convinced I was bulimic but no, young metabolism, walking to work and the basement marching all gave me great legs. I will never recreate that figure but would like to go from 2x to 1x size or around 180. I will probably do another 5000 steps after a lunch and TV break and we will see from there. I also swing arms vigorously to compensate for lack of hills. I am a giant sweat ball after. Other nice thing when at home, if I want to take a minute to stretch my hips, get water or anything, I can do that at thome.

Eating wise, just measuring portions to keep the calorie count reasonable. For my activity level 1800 to 2000 calories should be the most I would eat. Easier now that I don't eat the burger meals, chocolate everyday or huge amounts of peanut butter.

Losing some weight is one thing that would help me feel better about myself and fight all the depression I struggle with more than I should have to.

Just finished my 10000 steps workout, took 80 minutes again, faster than I can walk outside, complete sweatball. Steps on my yoga mat, have not decided to go out today or not but done walking for now. Sitting on my couch watching Chicago Med and probably will watch the other two Chicago shows as well later today.

I took yesterday off as well! A pcp visit and saw a friend for a bite after loooong time, was enough to be tired. Recently I feel I became lazy, I have less commitment/ desire to activities, maybe this change is related to weather/season? If it is so, it’s new to me because as far as I remember I love fall and winter and prefer cool weather in general. Have you noticed this kind of mood-changes in yourself recently?

Do any of you have facebook friends that follow you on to other posts to comment. I made a comment about a misogynistic post, I was not upset or anything really, just commenting and my friend commented I should not comment on these posts or get offended. I was not truly offended or bothered but more bothered by the friend telling me I should not comment. I wish there was a setting where certain friends could not see my comments, I don't argue but am known to comment on things. Not sure why I am annoyed but feel annoyed at the friend. Not annoyed so much i feel it needs anything said, but I am 49, pretty sure I can handling commenting on social media without assistance from others. I'll keep going but if every post I comment on is followed by my friend saying not to comment, I may have to tell her to stop commenting on my comments.

Today I took a 1.8 mile walk as the weather is just gorgeous and I enjoy seeing all the Halloween decorations. This is up from my max lately of 1 mile. I will see what this converts to in step count. My goal is to be able to walk 5 miles. We are planning a desert road trip over Thanksgiving and there is a 5-mile hike in New Mexico I have been drawn to ever since I heard about it, and really want to do it. I don't believe there is much elevation change or rock scrambling, if any, just distance. Stamina is not the issue, but pins and needle-y feeling in the feet due to Xeloda.

kikomoon, congrats on the walk! I’ve got the annual MD Anderson Boot Walk next Saturday, it’s an easy enough 1.2 miles and I’ll be walking at a local park (group walk is canceled due to covid).

I’m also headed west for thanksgiving, gonna spread a week at our cabin near Big Bend. Hoping it’s not too cold for a swim at Balmorea State Park.

Mae - so lucky to have a place out there! We have been meaning to go to Big Bend but everything's always booked up and I need more glamping than camping. We were out in Alpine and Fort Davis in May and did the star gazing party at the McDonald Observatory. My dad's family is from Pecos and we lived there when I was 7, 8. DH's dad grew up in Imperial which is a whole lotta nothin' but we had fun going to check out both places. Have fun on your walk, hope the weather is as nice as it is now!

Being in the Army I’ve had to keep my fitness up since my first dx in 2017. My DH and I started doing 5k/10ks for fun (a mix of run/walk) and we’ve also done 4 half marathons and a 10 mile race. During COVID we even did virtual runs. Then I started getting more fatigued with decreased endurance so we stopped our ‘fun runs’.

After getting vaccinated this spring I picked back up going to OrangeTheory Fitness 3-4 times a week. I go at my own pace but it’s nice to have a structured workout and a coach for encouragement. Every Halloween time they do a Hell Week, which is full of extremely tough workouts. If you do 5 in the week, you get a tshirt. I signed up for this year and was super excited for it. But on Monday, the first of my 5 workouts, my ribs were so painful it hurt to turn on the faucet to wash my hands. The pain has continued and I just got some heavier painkillers today to help with it. So I’ve had to cancel the rest of my workouts for the week. Hopefully I can pick it back up next week

Boo Katyblu! Sorry you've had to deal with pain this week - I'm sure you can get it under control with help from the meds. DH and I had also started doing 5 and 10ks. We did the Donut Dash right before Covid hit, continued to walk/run outdoors all the way up until my diagnosis in October. I also cut back on drinking during the pandemic and was in much better shape right before dx. I was doing 3 mile walks during Taxol, now Xeloda has me down to 1 mile because of foot issues. Grateful I can at least do 1....1.8 today, yeah!

Half marathon - now that's crazy talk, cancer or not :) My friend just did Iron Man in Waco, 8 hours of continuous strenuous exercise, no thanks. not now, not ever!

Kikomoon, great job with the walking, I know you will get to where you want to be.

Katyblu, hopefully the pain subsides soon, half marathon, sound grueling but good for you. Hopefully you at least get some good walking if that is not an issue.

I don't know what came over me today. I went to my grocery store which took me to 8500 steps, close to 4 miles. That was all I was going to do today. Was sitting around after lunch and thought, boy, a chocolate bar would be good right now. I have a new rule, if I want chocolate, I have to walk across town to get it. Instead of thinking that I had done enough for the day, I decided to head toward the mall, I stopped and got the chocolate, not a huge one but it was Hershey's Milk Chocolate and almonds. I sat on a nearby bench outside and gobbled it down, drank a whole bottle of water and started the walk home. The walk there to get the chocolate bar was more tiring, more uphill portions but after the sugar rush, coming home was far easier. Though I did not feel hot, I was very sweaty, did not help that I was wearing fleece lined leggings and a fleecy hoodie but I could not be bothered taking it off, just walked along, lip synced the songs I was listening to and kept going. Step total and a new record for me anyway, 23242 steps, 9.54 miles or 15km. I am happy with the result, that is a lot to do for a chocolate bar. I will be taking it easy tomorrow for sure, just walking to the hospital for MRI results and around Costco. Should sleep well tonight. I will also say, my face was beet red and I was sweaty but the weather was good and in the end, I enjoyed myself. I also am definitely not a fast walker, a solid steady pace and I speed up when I have to go uphill. Makes it easier.

Mara, LOL! "I have a new rule, if I want chocolate, I have to walk across town to get it."

You're an animal with those 23,343 steps, are you kidding me? I bet you will sleep sound tonight, that's one way to do it. Sending up all the good vibes for tomorrow my dear.

Mara, you’re always the big stepper here and an inspiration to me when I find myself “resting” for too long.

Kikomoon and katyblu, I enjoy 5ks too. I did my first one during my initial chemo in 2017 and do at least 1 per year. I go for something fun like the dis de los muertos run through a cemetery, the shipleys donut dash, the save the chubby mermaids (manatees) run, miles for metavivor and of course the boot walk.

I never give the exact location online but I can see the Observatory from our mountain, it’s so great out there. I don’t do tent camping anymore but we take our little couples travel trailer everywhere we can.

Mara wow! That’s sooo many steps! Good for you 😊 Every time I read about your daily totals I feel like I have to get up and move.

Mae and Kikomoon, I love the themed runs! My DH and I collect race medals and have them displayed in our workout area. We never originally intended to do half marathons but the medal for the Alamo Half Marathon in 2018 was so cool, we just had to. We are not fast at all, took us just over 3 hours. We’ve done that one 3 times and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half once. We’re registered for the Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll Half in February. It’s done at night on the Strip with all the lights and stuff. Should be awesome! And we want to do a Disney run at some point, doesn’t matter the distance (not a marathon though).

Thanks for the well wishes about the pain! I’ve taken some short term painkillers and they’ve helped. Still debating about taking the long term painkillers.

Mara, you are definitely inspiring! Walking across town for chocolate, wow - I just looked to see how far it is from my house to my favorite bakery, it's 2.6 miles. Hmmm. I think I'll start with parking farther away than just several blocks, and try to not ALWAYS stop in and linger at the bookstore on the way, lol. I'm still working from home and generally feel tired at the end of my workday, but am trying for neighborhood walks before dinner.

Thank you everyone, it was definitely a good walk but I am wise and will baby my feet. Just need to walk to the hospital and back tomorrow for results and walking around costco with my brother and niece will be easy as well.

Kikomoon and everyone, thanks for the pocket duty as well, is definitely needed.

I am also inspired by all of you who have so much more going on than I do and you are still active most days. It is easy for me to find time with few appointments or plans, those that are busy with spouses, kids and jobs amaze me that you find the time. I guess we all inspire each other. I love it!

Well, the weathe has not been the best this weekend and I really am not feeling the indoor walking so stuck my cubii on a yoga mat, put vinegar in front (Hard floors and it slides). I cannot fit a desk to put this under so stuck on my couch and of course the folding table is bouncing along with the computer. Feel like this is better than nothing to burn some calories. Supposed to be nicer next week so will schedule a couple of long walks to occupy myself.

I haven't walked since sometime last week. I developed painful cracked heels. Got some gel lined heelsocks and switched lotion to Aquaphor and that seemed to do the trick. I will try and get out tomorrow for at least a mile.

Kikomoon, that is the worst for sure, glad your feet are feeling better. I develop horrible callouses myself and have to use an emjoi micropedi to get the skin off, it is so gross when it comes off in flakes but does not take long and does not hurt regular skin. That helps me for sure.

mara, you'd be proud of me. I cooked my own black beans in my Instant Pot yesterday. They were really good. DH liked them better than the canned black beans we usually buy.

The only problem is that I can't remember exactly what I added. I wrote down the amounts and the cooking time, but I don't remember if I added garlic powder. I just wrote down the beans, salt and water. I'll probably add a bit less water next time.

I ate them with rice and my own version of Bitchin' Sauce. If you haven't had it, it's kind of like humus, but made with almonds, olive oil, nutritional yeast, lemon juice and various spices. Our Costco carries Bitchin' Sauce (oops, I just typed "Birthin'" sauce!!). I've also seen it at Sprouts (a natural food store). It's worth trying! :)

Sunshine - I got the Bitchin' Sauce eggplant and olives from Spouts. It's pretty good but kinda expensive for the quantity. I bet I could make it based on the ingredient list.

Just did 1.2 miles or about 2,800 steps, which is pretty good for being down a few days.

Sunshine: The IP makes the best beans. Even though the can go in dried I prefer a quick soak by boiling them for about two minutes, taking them off the heat and letting the sit for about and hour or so. I rinse them so I can use stock for flavour.

Into our rainy season. Truth be told it is always rainy, only the temperature and the winds vary. I took some bags of stuff to our local Salvation Army. It is walking distance. A gust of wind hit the side of the bag and nearly knocked me off balance. Not to mention all the soaking wet leaves that are slippery as all get out. First decent day I am determined to get out and do a proper walk. You ladies put me to shame.
