Elderberry it is slippery! i've been trying to be super careful when walking with Olive. I got my cast off yesterday & next week I will see a physio for some extra arm & wrist exercises. I feel all deconditioned all over.

So, after totally forgetting which tread I posted in and the BCO site going down yesterday, here is my recipe/my version of Bitchin' Sauce. BTW, I was following a lectin free eating plan for a while, so I blanched the almonds before putting them in the blender. Kind of a pain and I didn't really notice a big taste difference.

    CAROL'S ALMOND DIP

    1 cup raw almonds, soaked
    1/4 cup lemon juice
    1/4 cup olive oil
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
    1 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    2 tablespoons tahini
1 teaspoon (or more) ground chipotle
2 tablespoons nutritional yeast (I like the flakes)
1 cup water (plus another 2 tablespoons for rinsing the blender

Drain the soaked almonds. (They can soak overnight or for a few minutes.) Place all ingredients into a Vitamix blender and blend until creamy. Scrape out as much as possible into a container and then add the additional water to the blender and blend briefly to clean it. Add this to the container with the first amount and stir to combine. The recipe will yield a little over 2 cups.

I find that the dip is better when it's creamier, so let it process until quite smooth. It takes a powerful blender so if you don't have one, it can be made in a food processor. I tried in the food processor but was not as happy with the results since it wasn't as smooth. It still tasted good, though.

Spice level can be adjusted to your personal taste. You can also add pesto or cilantro or red bell peppers. There are several varieties of Bitchin' Sauce. Check them out and then adapt your recipe.

    Enjoy!

    Carol

moth: the very last thing you need or want is to fall. With luck it would just be your pride that will be hurt. I saw a meme (on one of the threads maybe) "When you fall and everyone laughs, then you are young but when you fall and everyone rushes to help you, then you are old" -- something like that.

Sunshine - Thank you! I will try it out soon and let you know how it goes. I think I have all those ingredients, but not a Vitamix. Food processor should work though.

I got my third dose shot for immunocompromised peoples on Wednesday. Thursday afternoon I was dog tired, just got in bed and ate toast for dinner. Today energy is back up, 1.6 miles / 3800 steps!

Kikomoon, glad you got your booster and glad the energy is back up for you, great job on the walking

I only did 2600 steps as indoor walking with leslie sansone. Got sidetracked with other things the rest of the day. I will need to get my steps early as I have an amazon delivery coming tomorrow.

1.8 miles today including a trek around the grocery store. Prefer curbside since I know what I’m getting and 1/2 the people aren’t wearing masks, but we just needed a few things. It’s nice to sport my bald head (I do wear a baseball cap) to maybe remind some people why it’s neighborly to go ahead and wear a mask, but maybe they are just thinking we should stay in a bubble. Oh well

I wimped out of walking long distance outdoors, was prepared to have another rest day after a short night of sleep made me feel unwell after breakfast. Just rested there a few minutes and pulled my big girl panties up and decided I need to get 7 miles a day of speed walking 1/2 to a mile throughout the day at home. Put down a yoga mat and burn rubber on the spot, much faster than outside and my arms get more work as well. I am no longer chained to step goals so much as mile goals and doing it this way breaks it up, keeps a steady supply of energy and really helps get me ready to do stuff I do not want to do, even though sunny, I really don't want an outdoor walk, will spend part of young and the restless getting some of those1/2 or whole miles. I am sweating buckets. Feels almost like a low impact jog if I am being honest.

I cannot do that pace outdoors due to a risk of falling, need shorter slower steps in order not to trip over the sidewalk pavers. Indoors is where I can rev my heart up. Once the 7 miles are a routine inside, I will look to strength training later as another step in building muscle vs fat.

Hi folks! I found I had lost a lot of my strength, but I just am bored to tears at the idea of going to lift weights at the gym. I figured I needed to try something that would build strength but was also fun. I decided to try rock climbing, and it turns out that I love it! it’s such a good physical workout, but it’s a mental workout too. The nice thing about climbing gyms is that they are open in the winter too but it feels like you are outsideimage

Glad you found an interesting workout that gives you extra strength. I need to do something besides walking myself, I did buy resistance bands, have a few free weights as well, been thinking about walking around the neighbourhood with about 10 lbs in a knapsack to burn more calories. We will see.

I've been dealing with a new building owner that wants to throw us residents out and we are fighting him using the law so that has been time consuming so have not been posting so much here.

hi DGHoff! That rockclimbing looks fun! Treatments zapped me of all body strength, especially lower. If I squat down, forget about me coming back up without something to grab on to. We are going through the American Southwest right now so getting some uphill climbs in here and there.

Mara, glad to see you’re still at it despite those jerks in your building situation. I think of you absolutely everyday and pray it works out. I know it will.

Just wanted to say good morning to all of you lovelies out there.

DG, that looks like fun. My DH is a climber, but he prefers to be outside. He's somewhere in our local mountains right now - left at 0 dark 30, as he likes to call it.

Mara, glad you're hanging in there. I am following your saga and appreciate your updates. I'm sitting at my computer peddling away on my Cubii as I type. My DH is so sweet. If we go out to the desert for longer than a couple of days, he'll haul that thing out there for me and set it up in front of one of the upholstered chairs. Gotta get those steps in, one way or another.

Kikomoon, boy, do I hear you about going down to pick something up and then needing something or someone to help me get back up. Sheesh!

I am having a lazy day today, doing my survey stuff and other things for cash, surveys etc. I also ordered chocolate bars with a credit I had on a food ordering site, I was craving chocolate.

Sunshine, things are plodding along. I have found the letter showing what the rent increase will be when it kicks in and will have to email to get the security question if they need Dec 1st rent by etransfer. Not much happening at this point, will be a while before I go. The tenant board is backed up quite a bit so they will need to go through that first before serving the 4 months notice.

DG, bravo 👏👏👏👏👏👏 and thanks for inspirational post/ photo.

Mara, what a shocking news :/// I hope you are all together able to fight back... shame some people just think about money...

I’ve been down hill for about couple of months, loads of stress and issues... Yesterday I was thinking I need to stop this, so I back in walking again, of course my speed, distance and energy were not the same but at least I tried. Hey 20 minutes-Walking-challenge here I come again!

I walked 4 miles today total going to and from Horse Shoe Bend and a slot canyon (canyon x). Canyon X had quite an uphill climb to get out, it took me awhile. Everyone who arrived when we did were gone by the time I made it up. But I made it up gosh darn it and feeling quite accomplished. Horseshoe Bend had a rock we climbed up, and then a more gradual uphill hike out. Slow and steady with short breaks and water helped! I deserve some wine with dinner : )

    katyblu,

I am glad you are feeling better! Good enough for some workouts!

I have slightly yellow toenail and am using that as an excuse to do nothing, even though it doesn’t really hurt. Seeing the MO in a minute and will ask her about it. My toenailshave been fairly knarly since I started all this MBC crap.

Oh no! I hate what everything does to our toenails. All the toenails on my right foot have been messed up since chemo in 2017. One of them only kind of grows and then half of it will break off. Kikomoon, I hope there’s nothing wrong with yours and that it gets better soon

Well my MO says she doesn't think the toe looks infected or like a fungus, but just part of hand-foot syndrome and chemo feet :/ Epsom salt foot soaks have made it look alot better and feels good too.

And it doesn't hurt - so the jig is up, I got off my duff and walked 1.6 miles.

Good job on the walking Kikomoon. I actually got up off my tired butt and walked for an hour, needed peanut butter. Was quite windy but not bad outside. I had a late bed time last night so will go earlier, by 10 I think. Been quite depressive feeling so the walking should take the edge off all that. I think I will feel depressive and stressed until I know where I will be living but still need to walk and get past the mental block.

I went to the climbing gym again today and can tell that I’m definitely getting stronger. I’ve been trying for six weeks to do a really challenging route, and I finally made it happen today! Yay!

Good luck with the apartment issues, Mara. That’s no fun to feel like you are in limbo with your home.

Kikomoon,, yes my toenails are a bit wonky too since MBC. They break a lot more easily.

I need to strengthen the backs of my legs, hamstrings I think. I need to be able to get up from low seats. I can walk as far as I want without being tired, I squat but am still unable to get up from low seating. Visited with a neighbour and had to kneel on the floor and use my arms to assist in getting up. I would like to get to the point that I don't need something to help push myself up to assist. I do a lot of squats but will look for more to work and strengthen my quads, hamstrings and maybe calves as well.

I had a chilly 4 mile walk, picked up a couple of burger patties from my regular joint that just reopened. No buns or toppings, just needed the beef so I can grind the meat and put in a bean meal. Just went to the burger joint and a grocery store for some extra mayo. I bought a ton of gift cards for the burger joint so need to use them up.

Well, been a while since posting. I fell last weekend and hit my head, scraped up face and fractured elbow. The desire to walk was taken from me but now feeling like a sloth. Pulled out the treadmill since it has not been used for a long time. Planning on 10 mins at a time til I get 60 mins per day on there. Not counting steps anymore, figure any exercise is better than what I was doing the past weel.

My elbow side is sore but will keep up the painkillers, my face is still swollen, but that will have to heal up. I managed to trip over a sidewalk paver again, been two years since I fell last time but still feeling nervous about the outdoor stuff, just have to put my big girl shoes on and persist.

Love and hope you all have a good holiday.

mara, gosh, I'm sorry to hear about your fall and injuries! What happened? You are such a trouper, determined to continue to stay active while you recover. It is okay to give yourself the time you need to heal. Don't be hard on yourself about not being able to be as active as you were prior to your fall. You will eventually find yourself back in full swing, even if it takes longer than you think it should. I know something about that because two summers in a row I had foot surgery and was out of commission for months each time. Be good to yourself.

For a long, long time I felt like a slug. Exercising since mbc has been sporadic due to different treatment side effects and injuries like mentioned above plus I had Covid in January and it took awhile to recover.

In late summer I started a weekly line dance class and have enjoyed it. My feet hurt from oral chemo side effects and my hips, back and knees are sore from arthritis, but it's perfect exercise. No special clothing required, no getting down on a mat, not strenuous plus the music helps. I love learning the dance steps and the memorization of them is good brain exercise, too!

I also started water aerobics twice a week and like that, too. The instructor is a bit unreliable, numerous absences. so the exercise hasn't been consistent. But I give myself credit for making the effort and getting out because honestly, I could easily lay on the sofa all winter and convince myself that was okay.

DivineMsM, I probably did not lift the right foot enough on the way home and tripped on a sidewalk paver. I am starting to physically recover, just have the mental fear when walking outside I need to work on. My face still looks bruised and cheekbone still quite tender to the touch. Not planning much for outdoor walks though my mental state needs them, to depressed otherwise.

Good job on the line dancing, when I was younger, I did quite often to to places that had that, never considered myself very good at it but it was so much fun as I recall. Glad you are enjoying yourself.
