Enjoying all the great photos here. Impressed with how everyone keeps going in whatever way they can. I managed one fitness session per day most days last week, and had one day where I did both yoga and walking. I cooked a regular dinner a couple times last week, too. Really trying to get back to that as it is so much healthier for the whole family. But yesterday I was a couch potato feeling sorry for myself. A disappointment, missing out on something, can bring on clouds for me as I am already using emotional energy to deal with bc. Today is a new day.

Otters and sea lions, lovely! What did they think of the kayak?

image ...It really is something to be outside in nature when something like this happens to you. The air is cleaner and crisper, the breezes feel different down to your finger tips as you walk, every noise is heard. The magnitude of mortality is of nothing to be explained to someone, there are not many words. Only feelings. That is how I have felt since diagnosis, now when I run past the turtles, I See them, when I am done I come back and watch them move, they are amazing. I watch them everyday I run. So I have decided to name them. Haven't been able to snap a photo of the six babies, they are too quick and feel vibration as I run bye. But I named mama Maggie. She's a big one! They even make subtle noises with air that I have never noticed before, or would even take the time to stop and really look at the wonders all around us everyday, that become so much more heightened with the fear and thought of having to leave this place because I have several bone mets. Will those suckers spread? Will this medicine keep working ? I have no answers now, but I have the turtle Maggie to marvel at as she takes care of six little ones. I could barely raise two. Lol. Here is Maggie she snaps a lot lol.

    Hi ladies,

Went for 1 and 1/2 mile walk today. Have quite a bit of hip pain and am tired but I push myself to move as many of you do.

SheltlandPony it's ok to feel sorry for yourself, I do also at times but then we must move on in order to get healthier,

Z I see you on on the move again! Good for you!

Micmel, isn't the areomatase inhibitor you are on, helping with the bone mets, I tried the generic for arimidex and had so many se in a week that I quit

Has anyone read the truth about cancer? I have a cousin that owns health food store in colarado, she sent me some spiralina, Chlorella raw tablets and natural calm magnesium. Has anyone tried these ? Or heard of these. Wonder if I can take these while on herceptin and perjecta, any info would be helpful.

    Paula.

I also take anastrazole which I believe is the generic brand, I know the back pain isn't from ibrance and I just had scan results this past week, and I was considered very stable. It's gotta be this medicine. I guess the next time I see him. If it's this annoying. I'm going to have to ask to be switched To letrozole,I don't even know if that would be any better..doesn't hurt to ask. Somedays are better than others. Thank you for mentioning that. ~M~

Gym was closed and it was a nice day so took 40 min walk. Was nice and sunny. Took my mother on a slower mini walk. She has been more tired so she walked for 10 mins.

Great pictures everyone. Rest up Micmel. We are awesome!

Paula - I am not a fan of the The Truth about Cancer, even though my lovely caring aunt sends me bits all the time. The whole conspiracy theory underpinning is not accurate. I am, however, a devote of complementary oncology overseen by experienced professionals who are working of my specific medical history.

Honestly, exercise and diet beats all complementary treatments any way. We are the few (the 10%) that actually get it done.

Great work everyone. My jog was pathetic. I could only jog/walked my normal route before I lost my breathe. I dont know what is going on. But 45 minutes of cardio is 45 minutes of cardio. Fitbit is useful that way.

40 minutes of sauna yoga too. so good day.

Mic, love your turtles. I feel the same about nature, and everything is so much brighter and more awe inspiring, knowing we cannot look upon it forever.

The weekend traveling and out and about (remember the kayak), and today I was OUT. I slept all day. It's fun to do stuff, but man we sure do need to recharge, dont we?

Micmel, great news on the scans. Nice pic of mama.

Paula, spirulina and chlorella are algae, quite common in Japan and other parts of Asia. I put spirulina in my oatmeal. My Dentist gives me chlorella when she removes my fillings to detox. The World Health Organization provides spirulina for Vitamin A deficiency which can lead to blindness.

Z, 45 minutes is long in my book. Can you alternate with walking?

    Salsa again tonight.

Stef~ I know exactly how you feel. It's like our energy is stored in a tank and we dip into it until it's empty , then we are down for a few days resting to fill up that tank again. I have felt that way all week so far. My fit bit tells me I had a good week last week, Now this week all I want to do is sleep and rest. And I can't even help it. My body is the boss now. The ritilan helps tremendously, but I only save that for days I know are going to be tough, or that I cannot be in bed all day long. I don't want to use it everyday, don't want my body to get used to that medicine everyday. I hate his cancer crap, we never get a break, never a break in our bodies or our minds. It's such a mind f**k. That is the only word that really fits the conundrum we have all been sucked into. You ladies though bring me comfort, because you just all understand. Thank you all for being wonderful you!! Hugs ~M~

Ran 30 mins the last couple of days and today just a slow walk. Not the endurance I once had, but I love the quiet and time to myself.

Planning for a 5k with some friends this weekend. Slow and steady is the plan. Keep it up everyone

    Micmel,

I know how you feel as I do at times, but I force myself to keep exercising even for a little while, otherwise I find myself in a deep hole, I am glad you had a good week last week!

    Exercise creates good endorphins💕💕💕

Yes, Wiegp22, having a sad day one in a while is ok. (Whereas long-lasting depression needs more than just a day off.) I had a great time at dance class and am back in problem-solving mode.

Z, are we really only 10%? Forty-five minutes of cardio is not pathetic! Are you by any chance a straight-A student who is a bit hard on herself?

Stefajoy and Micmel, about the recharge, exactly! I have come to accept that for me a very active couple of days out and about is often followed by a TV day. I've decided that is ok, and that the BBC has some great shows.

Micmel, how nice to visit your turtles regularly. Do you or your kids keep nature journals with words and/or sketches?

Shetland~ My thing is coloring. It brings me calm and I get to use colors on the days that I can't run like i would want to or am used doing. My kids are older so mom and DH have to find other ways to manage that void. They are busy bees. My DH enjoys photography and is quite good. I go sit in nature while he Trucks around snapping photos it calms me. I had a prior injury that limits what I can do it has my dominate arm. They call it thoracic outlet syndrome, so I have to do things in moderation, I had just built it back up to where I was lifting again with free weights, then I was diagnosed and I can't do it anymore. Not like that anyway. The gym is like 15 mins from my hous, in my condition now driving down there the 15 mins and walking in, then warming up, and then doing my old routine, it just isn't happening. Makes me so angry and sad. By the time I started I would be already ready to leave. That was what I did with my time,Since my kids are older now. The turtles live in the pond by my house where I run the track, it always peaceful no one is ever around. So surreal sometimes how lovely things are in our world but how scary other things are at the same exact time. I'm just trying to enjoy each day to the fullest.

Keeping all close in prayer. ~M~

Shetland - this is from the pinned post at the top of the thread ... 13% of women who have NOT had chemo achieve the ACA recommendations for exercise. Only 10% of women who have had chemo achieve the ACA recommendations.

A population-based study in the United States involving 856 women found that only 13% of breast cancer survivors attained the recommended 150 minutes of exercise each week, and with increasing time after diagnosis, only about 10% comply with the recommendation. 28 Patients who have undergone chemotherapy or radiation have significantly greater decreases in physical activity, by 50% and 24% respectively, compared with patients who have not experienced these therapies.22

Generally, we are all exceeding the ACA recommendations. When you dig into the literature, there is a linear improvement of outcomes with increased exercise, we do get additional benefit from exceeding the recommendations. Up to a point. Marathon running will induce oxidative stress and is not advised, but I think we're all safe from that risk.

Gearing up for 30 minutes of cardio. Probably a walk/jog is all I need to do to accomplish that. That shouldn't be. It should require a run to get my heart rate up. I don't know what is going on. But whatever. Cardio is cardio. Off we go ...

Exercise is seriously anti-aging. I'll repeat an earlier post on exercise and age below because it is so very compelling. You can certainly find individual studies that show that exercise is not a panacea for this particular thing under those particular circumstances, but the overwhelming body of evidence shows that exercise significantly and sometimes drastically improves health outcomes and QOL at any age. Certain body functions, like your entire lymphatic system, don't work unless you move. And if you are pumping toxins into your system daily as we are, your lymphatic system needs to be in top shape.

In her new book The Telomere Effect: A Revolutionary Approach to Living Younger, Healthier, Longer, Elizabeth Blackburn says slowing down cellular wear and tear is easier than you think

"In a German study published in 2015, resistance exercise, such as weightlifting, had little effect on telomerase, the enzyme that replenishes telomeres. But over a six-month period, two forms of aerobic exercise increased telomerase activity twofold. One was moderate exercise, such as light jogging or fast walking, performed three times a week for at least 45 minutes. The other telomerase-friendly workout, also performed three times a week, was high-intensity interval training, consisting of a 10-minute warm-up, four alternating intervals of fast and easy running (at three minutes each) and a 10-minute cooldown. "

The study talks about 30 minutes of cardio 5X per week, so I need to say, once again, that 20 minutes of regular exercise is significant. The First Twenty Minutes is by far my favorite book on exercise and, IMO, a must read for cancer patients whose health and fitness levels can vary day to day. I don't want anyone discouraged from exercising and 30 minutes of cardio is entirely unrealistic for many people reading this thread.

    Keep moving ...

    Hello everyone,

Today is day 6 Post 2nd chemo. Here is a photo of me about to walk in the hot Spring sunshine. I am wearing a baseball cap because hair very thin.

Well I managed 4k steps and then felt exhausted but the sciatica type pain I had yesterday has resolved.

Then at 1pm I had my head shaved and am pleased to say I love my wig.

    Love to all ximage

Love the wig. Similar to your previous hair.It looks great on you. 4k steps is great as well. Walking will help during chemo for the fatigue and minimize some of the SE.

You look lovely before and after. Nice work taking care of yourself. Hair is very important.

What I find is that fitness goes up and down but wherever I am I push myself a bit and then back off. Oddly my fitness improves whether "pushing myself" on any given day is a 2K walk or a 12K run. Nice job on the 4K steps, great effort that will speed up recovery and reduce side effects and generally give you back your life.

Was on vacation in Northern California for a week visiting family. We went to Mendocino, ca beach for a few night it was absolutely spectacular. We did a 5.88 mile hike to the Russian Gulch Falls, through the giant redwoods. This has been on my bucket list for years finally crossed one off. This is a picture of the falls. I have been able to meet my 8000 step goal most of the week.

Mic, I feel the same way I stop to enjoy the small things and marvel at the beauty. Thank you for sharing the picture.

Ronnie~ Magificent!!! So beautiful, I wish I was there, such tranquility, I am so happy for you that you are doing what you enjoy with family and crossing items off bucket lists. I have also been thinking about those lately and last year crossed off one myself, by seeing Elton John in concert sing Tiny Dancer. Goosebumps all over and so overwhelmed by the entire experience. One of my favorite all time songs ever. Another bucket list item crossed off! Another one was George Strait's the cowboy rides away tour! Man he is gorgeous!!! Be still My heart handsome! Thank you for showing your photos and allowing me to travel back to two of my bucket listers. Safe travels ahead for all!! Hugs ~M~

    Mara, Z and Micmel,

I am so uplifted by your comments. Thank you so much....

I am heading off for an evening walk shortly, a more gentle one than this morning.

My mum has given me these elastic band things for stretching. Will need to google some exercises to go with them. I think it's a kind of resistance training thing- sorry there must be an actual name for it.

As yet I'm stuck with walking and cycling. Need to look into yoga and maybe martial arts I think.

Finally getting a chance to check back in after my vacation! I walked close to 10 miles a day most of the days I was in Paris and felt good except for a small cold. Back at home this week and haven't had as much time but still making time for morning yoga and walking at least 20 minutes In the evening. Hope to increase that back up, but I'm giving myself rest time a little! I was super happy to feel so good in Paris and even took the stairs at the the Eiffel Tower to the second level and then the elevator to the top!
