lwrite, I feel you on the eating. I walk all the time but I'm gaining weight. My clothes fit but I am addicted to chocolate bars. Big ones, not snack size. Will stop buying thomad eat chocolate pudding instead. Fewer calories by a few hundred.

Moth, good for you on the steps. Two drugs are a lot and you still moved. That is awesome.

Joining the Eating Club. A slice of leftover Easter cake yesterday and a big brownie today. Things are getting tight so dinner is probably canceled for me.

Moth, hope you feel better soon. You deserve it on an off week.

the scale also going up instead of down for me and I’m finding it easy to say it’s too cold or windy to walk outside for exercise. I have had fun finding YouTube videos people make in national parks and other beautiful places to make riding my stationary bike more fun. Yesterday I biked virtually through Disney world. The person doing the video bumped into people in the crowd so it did feel realistic, lol.

found out one more reason I feel I've been dragging myself with every step being so hard - my hemoglobin tanked again. 73 on Wed, had chemo yesterday, this morning it's 67. I'm getting 2 units transfused on Sunday. (I think US units are just divide by 10...)
Otherwise I'm actually feeling hopeful for the following week as I'm on a new pain medication and it seems to be working so I won't have to work against pain & fatigue, just the fatigue...

keep moving as much as you can everyone :)

Moth, are you able to eat black beans. I understand the chemo is to blame for the low numbers, but might that be something that would help? I found for myself, I am no longer showing anemic in my blood work at the cancer clinic. Only things I do different for myself now is heat up spinach and eat quite a bit of black beans.

Keep on keeping on, glad your pain is less. One thing at a time is easier to deal with.

All I am doing today is washing my bedding. Takes all day as my washer is tiny so it only does one blanket at a time. Tried doing one blanket at a time over several days but that is impractical so just have knuckle down and do it. That is my workout for today.

Hello Friends! I know this is a bit last minute, but I wanted to let you know that this Saturday morning (April 25th) I will be offering up a free yoga class via Zoom meeting. It's at 10 AM CST. It's will be a one hour, relatively gentle yoga class ending with a guided meditation.

If any of you would like to join in, just send me a private message, and I'll share the Zoom link with you.

Our local event was postponed until August so we did our own family race today - I had shirts and medals made for the first and hopefully last ever Coronavirus Caper. The boys ran a half and the ladies walked a 5k.

Momichichi, that is really great. I am so glad you could at least make it fun, even though you were on your own. You've inspired me to get off the couch, where I have been most of the day and walk the treadmill.

Hi all... just checking in. I have been totally MIA.. My back, which some of you may remember had hurt on and off for a long time, finally gave out in mid March or so. Slipped discs, compressions, etc. Some due to the cancer I had in my lower spine 8 years ago and some because of issues I had in high school. Anyway, I actually had a spinal fusion two weeks ago and spent 4 days in the hospital - by myself with no visitors!. I was in SO much pain prior to the surgery - literally couldn't walk and left leg was numb. Although the surgery was not fun, it was successful and the pain seems to be totally resolved...I have almost weaned myself off of my pain medication and am walking normally again. I am so thankful that they managed to get me in in the midst of the Covid crisis; I don't think I could have made it to the end of May. All I seemed to do prior to the surgery was eat and drink; two of our boys are home from college plus one girlfriend, so we are having 3 square meals a day, plus plenty of dessert and more alcohol than normal. I don't think I have worn anything other than pajama pants since March 1. I haven't had a huge appetite after the surgery so hoping I lost a little of that weight, but I am also doing ZERO. I need to make myself get out and walk this week, and do some of the movements that my PT showed me.

That is my update! Hopefully the next time I pop in I will have something more exciting to tell you! Hope all is well with everyone!

    XO

    Andrea

Andi, glad to hear the pain is resolved and I am sure you will get back to being more active before you know it.

I had a productive day today exercise wise. Walked on the treadmill for 20 mins, before breakfast, after breakfast, after lunch and after a snack for a total of 80 mins. The other part of my day was laundry and listening to Mr Mercedes by Stephen King. I am 4 hours into the story already. Good book since it has short chapters.

Today is a day where walking felt of no interest at all so I decided just to do one song at a time on the treadmill. Staying in because it is safer right now AND the song walking is still having a positive effect on my energy level etc. Also, don't want to spend extra money as I would invariably head to the grocery store and buy junk for myself.

I walked some more yesterday, including up.and down a hill. 1.6 km total. My hips complained about it all night so this morning I did some gentle hip stretches and mobilizations. I want to walk again later today but I think I will avoid the hill for now.

Good job on the hill Moth.

I did some walking on the treadmill. Did one song rested a minute then another. Varied the speed of each song between 2.5 to 3.5 mph. Really keeps me focused. Did this in 4 separate half hour sessions. It was good.

Hi Folks! I am so proud of myself because, for the first time in a very, very long time, I actually met my step goal for an entire week straight. Every single day, for eight days straight now, I have managed 8,000 steps. Working from home makes it so much easier to get it done as I can take a little break during the day, do a few stretches, walk around the block, etc. I don't think I am going to want to work back in the office again regularly after the distancing rules are relaxed. Plus, it is probably better for me not to be in the midst of things at work anyway what with a slightly compromised immune system. Hopefully I can still work at home through most of the summer. One of the few silver linings to this whole Covid-19 horror.

Good for you DG Hoff on the walking.

I seem to like walking alot one day and taking a rest day the next. I do think I will walk before breakfast because I find it easier to be motivated to move throughout the day if I just do it first thing. I know I need to move more for the amount I like to eat which is not primarily junk food. I like things like beans, spinach, shredded cheese etc but those are not light on calories. Don't want to buy clothes because I get bigger.

Breakfast wise, after walks in the morning, I will take the Carnation instant breakfast as there is no drop in blood sugar like after my bowl of cereal which is high fiber. Instead of eating the cereal with milk, I ground it to a powder, mixed in with my bran and use it to bring up the fiber content of my meals. Win/Win that way.

Yes, I haven't stepped on a scale since this whole thing started (except at infusions). So far things seem to be normal, but I haven't worn real pants for two months, so who knows what is happening with the waist-line!

I am now on seventeen days of getting my steps in every day and just about to head out for today to get to 18!

I'm reading a book called "The Joy of Movement"! Fascinating and motivating!

haven’t checked in in months. Got really ill in feb and ended up in hospital with hemolytic anemia- so weak , was in bed for weeks - finally better. Did a zoom class with my yoga teacher recently and it was great. Gained back the 10# I lost and put on jeans today for the first time in 3 months. Now able to walk in the neighborhood with masks, weather is very nice. Need to gain back strength. Haven’t gotten back to 10,000 steps- but hope to

You are all so inspiring !

I haven’t checked in on this thread in ages. I was too boring. Dance, yoga, walk. Dance, yoga, walk. Well covid-19 came along and it was bye bye dance classes and performances. Yoga moved to my living room with online lessons. Still walked in the neighborhood a lot at first. And I started doing a lot of gardening as an alternative artistic activity to dance. But then I ended up with really sore muscles — glutes, hips, thighs — the whole region just hurt. Maybe it was a combination of things: Overdoing it with new kinds of movements while gardening, such as squatting and digging with a trowel or pulling weeds, or standing on my shovel rocking in order to use my weight to push the shovel into the ground. The injury of the faslodex shots, high volume intramuscular injections, one in each buttock every two then every four weeks, and the resulting inflammation and/or protective gripping. Overdoing it with certain yoga positions. New drug combo. So I have been gradually getting better. I definitely injured a hamstring. I have been gradually resuming gardening. I am about ready to resume yoga but I am afraid. I can’t go see the physical therapist during the covid crisis. I haven’t even been walking much at all. I am tired of making myself do all the things I am supposed to do. On my new drugs I am quite tired in the evening, and walking in the sun does not work for me. Aren’t I just a ray of sunshine?

SP- It is easy to overdo it and then the rehab takes so long- makes me afraid to get injured. On the other hand after too much recent bed rest and no yoga, I was really tight and weak esp. quads and glutes. starting zoom yoga with my long term yoga teacher which has really helped and working on stretches myself as well as glute activators so I can strengthen hips.

Now I have got to get the shoulder better. Hope the yoga class gets things going the right direction.

Went out for two separate 20 minute walks today. The only reason this is significant for me is because it is hot and humid. Real feel temperature 104. I adapted to the heat in a couple of ways. Of course I wore sunscreen applied to my head, face arms and decolletage. I put on an evaporative cooling cap under my wig and wore a cooling scarf. I also took an umbrella with me to walk with to avoid getting sunlight on my head. Got a couple of actual UV blockers coming but used what I had today. I actually did not have much difficulty walking in the heat and humidity. I am going to keep practicing as this is summer type weather here. Even without the heat, I will use the umbrella as I am not interested in sun due to brain radiation. Don't need melanoma on top of breast cancer. I also had picked up groceries this morning when it was still over 100 f and they were heavy, carried in a knapsack. It worked for me. I am proud of myself for accomplishing this given the fact that less than a year ago, walking to the grocery store was difficult. I don't want to ride buses or take cabs either. Too close for comfort with others in covid times. Going to keep pushing myself to become able to be acclimated with the heat and humidity and see what happens.

Still walking like a fiend but getting bored at home on the treadmill. Decided to throw in some seated workouts that are still quite vigorous and add the odd jogging on the spot. I do not lift my feet high as I am in an apartment and am sure the person downstairs would be annoyed. It is a quick pick me up for my heart rate. Cannot sustain it, but can definitely feel the effort. Also did a 7 min Dr Oz full body HIIT workout. That was fun too. Planning to visit the store so will walk a little bit. Yesterday, I did two hour long sessions of walking outside so giving my feet a bit of a break today while still doing some exercise.

I used to want to rejoin the gym but the one I would go to says to come back, people must work out in masks. That is a dealbreaker for me. I can wear a mask indoors when required and cannot socially distance from others but cannot imagine breathing that moist humid air and exerting myself. I think that is very bad for the lungs, even if you don't have a pre existing lung problem. No thanks.
