Isn't it amazing a) how fast you can lose conditioning when dealing with "stuff" and then b) how a few weeks of a little here and a little there for exercise start to add up? Between the spin bike, standing to cook/work, walks around the neighborhood, and some light weights my leg muscles are coming back as well as all those erector spinae muscles that had a good long vacation. Yesterday I bombed straight out of the house completely forgetting my cane, went shopping, got an iced coffee, and walked home with all my stuff and everything from my legs to my lower back felt rock solid for the first time in probably 15 months.

Just wish the swimming pools would open up here...

Sondra, that is very true. I go through cycles of being super active with my walking, others not so active. I find for me, I have to still force the first walk of the day. My butt would enjoy the couch but my mental state and how i feel physically would be poor. I would sleep all the time instead. Once I have done that first walk, I am pretty reliable to do at least one more. I need it as I have been gaining weight so there is that to deal with. I think it is more muscle than fat in my legs because I still fit in my clothes. I am also able to withstand hot weather and carry heavy groceries. Our summer has been extremely hot and humid, not much rain. I just use a UV umbrella, drink loads of water before and after and I am fine. Hope I keep this up for myself, hate to sweat so much but such is life.

Ah but I think sweat is healthy! Think of all the impurities flowing out of the pores! :)

I hear you about having an ass velcroed to the couch - I am sitting here right now willing myself to get up and change and get on the spin bike. Its rained all day and I've done too much boredom eating. Besides, after ten minutes I feel amazing and wonder why I questioned starting!.

    Alright - here I go!

Hi Mara, your post is definitely inspirational. I didn’t mean to be disappearing, in a very positive word: I just tried to focus on amount of energy I had. So back to basics and mild pt exercise, until yesterday that I could manage to walk up to 20 minutes, without the leg numb or pain started, I count it as a success! I work my butt off on walking and breathing techniques today and tomorrow, need to stay positive for scans on Monday. 🤞🏻

Just noticed that I can walk more after a week more rest-less activity!

Please keep posting your activities, your posts inspire others including me.

    Wish everyone a nice weekend

the site has been eating my replies this morning so I'm trying again. Just wanted to agree about how quick things can change. Less than 2 wks ago I was pulling a chair up to the stove and kitchen counters because I needed to rest my wobbly jelly legs after even a few minutes of standing. This week I walked 30 min each day Mon-Wed, skipped thurs (4hrs in chemo chair + benadryl iv = bed, except for eating, drinking tons and peeing tons lol) and yesterday I did two 30 min walks.

I need to incorporate yoga and upper body strength. Swimming would be nice but only our outdoor pools are open and it's been a bit too cold for me to brave it. It's also lap swimming only - reserve a lane for 40 min - for covid precautions and I'm not fit enough for that lol. I just want to splash about in the water...

Moth, good job on the exercise for sure, glad that you are able to walk so much. The yoga and strength training will come in time.

Julia, good for you on the movement. If you can do 20 mins that is a win.

Sondra, I agree, you feel amazing after moving for sure. I went for a walk this morning and felt really good.

I just did a 40 min walk and sat around the rest of the day. Felt good.

That's awesome Moth - way to get those jelly legs going! Julia - physical exercise will definitely help manage that scanxiety!

I did 40 mins yesterday on the bike, taking care to have a long cool down. Then I went and made sure to do a lot of stretching, a few yoga poses, and some light pt band work to keep my shoulders/back strong and the usual hip strengtheners. Slept a lot better although this morning my right thigh and knee are complaining a bit. That is the side that was affected by the pelvic met, so not surprised its a bit weaker than the left side!

Today is probably a neighborhood walk if it can stop raining!

Started Verzenio last Thursday and this weekend was rough. I felt better yesterday and went for a 5 mile run/walk yesterday evening and a 4 mile hike this morning. Way too much and I’m paying for it, but mentally it was so worth it

I've been doing 2 x 30 min walks/day for over a week now. Feeling so much stronger. It's a hilly walk & it's been interesting seeing how I'm improving in terms of being able to get up the hill without stopping. Also makes a difference if someone comes with me or if it's just me and the dog because if someone is with me we talk and that of course adds to the exertion.

I stopped wearing my fitbit a couple months ago as both my arms were getting sore from it. I'm trying the phone pedometer which is nowhere near as accurate but yesterday it logged over 7K steps which is more than I've done in a day for several months (there were many days under 300 - very sick days bleh).

lehrski - that's great that you were able to bounce back like that! I'm sure it feels good.

Moth - that’s great that you’re getting out twice a day. I’m sure seeing improvement is encouraging.

This will be an adjustment for me. I’m used to running 3 times a week plus rock climbing/skiing/kayaking/surfing/hiking another couple of times of week. The outdoors brings me so much joy that it will be hard to stay within the limits of what my body can do.

Hi all. New to this thread, but reading good stuff!!! Right now my goal is to do something "active" 5/7 days of the week and then give my body a chance to rest. I live in the mountains of NC, so lots of hilly walks/hikes. I don't power through them but try to walk tight hubby or a friend 2-3x/week and really get the legs and breath moving. Works, especially when having conversation. Other days of the week I stream yoga classes from my favorite yoga studio or stretch out on my pilates reformer. Yoga works great as you can live stream, or take up to 48 hours to take the class (and can take more than once! - butI am not quite there). I do a mix of slow flow, yin, restorative. Nothing too crazy. To think I used to be a yoga teacher and loved the power and strength and alignment work in yoga. Well, it's a different day. If I get too sedentary, I feel worse physically and then it also affects me mentally. Too bad cleaning the house doesn't have the same therapeutic effect for me!! LOL. But, when there are those days that my body says "NO", I listen. I lounge out, read, hang out on porch with pups, text friends. I try to avoid TV......

lehrski - we moved from New England so had to find someplace with four seasons. Love WNC because, unlike NE, we really get 4 full seasons. And the mountains!!! Winter was way too long for me in NE. I am looking forward to autumn colors, but I don’t look too far ahead....time goes too quickly so living amdloving every day I can!

I have been improving the frequency of my daily walks. I do not work and most of my time is my own. I quite enjoy walking too. Mostly outdoors, even in the heat. Became acclimated to heat and humidity. I don't like the weather, but can at least walk without dying. There is a park nearby where there is quite a steep hill to climb. I did it the first time, was breathing hard and stopping at various points the first couple of times. Then I graduated to climbing without stopping but breathing hard almost all the way home. Now I am at the point where I breathe harder for just a couple of minutes and am able to complete the walk home easily now.

I have done probably about 2 hours of walking off and on and want to get some takeout from a local restaurant. Think I will walk to the restaurant, takes 30 mins each way. Get takeout but eat a small meal in the store before the walk home. I want the fast food but don't want to pay delivery. I am highly food motivated when it comes to exercise.

    Food is a great motivation!

I had a nice kayak this morning with a couple of friends. Bobbed around the bay and saw loads of pelicans, otters, seals and some very noisy sea lions.

So I completed almost 3 hours of walking off and on. Average walk was 30 mins though a couple were closer to an hour each. I can happily say I am done for today and really enjoyed myself.

welcome to the new fitness friends! To keep me motivated, I’m trying to do something different every day of the week, at least 20 min each. This week I walked outside, indoor cycled, did a YouTube weight workout, yard work, Leslie Sansone video, and a dance workout that I really felt in the ol’ back fat and gave my teens a giggle to watch. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Great job on the activity and breaking up the monotony by doing different things. It is good for the body to have variety of course. My biggest exercise is still walking for me. I usually walk half an hour to an hour at a time. I have been challenging myself both by walking in heat and humidity. I drink a ton of water before and after so other than red cheeks from the heat, no ill effects. I also go between treadmill walking to outdoor flat terrain. There is a very steep and tall paved area to go up from a park back up to the street level. Whole walk is probably 40 to 45 mins. Used to practically hyperventilate while doing it but now that it happens a couple of times a week, I can start deep breathing at the bottom and get all the way to the top. I only breathe heavier for a minute or two once back on flat terrain. This morning, I managed the hill and the grocery store which was nice. Very humid.

I also like to train by walking with a mask on to keep myself acclimated to breathing in a mask. It has the added benefit of allowing me to lipsync songs (which is an unconscious habit) without anyone possibly seeing me. It is stormy here so not sure if any more walking happening, we will see.

Well, had chemo today as well as scan results which still show NED. Walked to and from the cancer clinic as well. Starting to feel tired so will get some lunch and possibly nap. Would like to get to another grocery store about but don't think I could manage it. Maybe will try my treadmill instead first and see how that would be. If too tiring then at least would be at home. Want to minimize the feeling of being hit by a bus (fatigue and vaguely fluish) which happens all the time. We'll see how it goes.

Hi Mara, Momchichi and everyone, I hope you enjoyed/ enjoying activities. I had a stressful and busy month, thankfully mri showed stable.

    Mara, excellent job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Today, early morning, we had to move the car because of construction in the street. I took advantage and went for a short walk, everything was beautiful, fresh air was nice. I guess I will try walking early morning instead.

I wound up dozing off and on after my lunch. I listen when my body tells me to rest. It is supposed to be nice tomorrow so more walking will follow then most likely. I am also going to look into more strength training exercises for arms as well. My legs are strong from all the walking but need to do the same for my arms. Will consult youtube for this.

Ibeatit, glad to hear your MRi showed stable, that is great news to hear. May it ever continue.

I didn't do a ton today. Was really tired this morning which is normal after infusion and did not want to do a thing. I made myself at least walk about 15 mins to a bus stop so I could shop a lower priced grocery store. Got a lot of walking in the store since I am unfamiliar so that counts and there is an approximate 15 mins more of walking when I got off the bus. The bags that I carried the groceries in were extremely heavy so that was another workout. Went on another walk after a nap and lunch.

I did go for a walk today late afternoon as the heat here, I couldn’t go out earlier. But still it was toasty. I experienced a couple of fatigue weeks, so most of the time I was resting, but tried to do some light movements indoor.

I don't walk more than half an hour in the superhot if I can help it. I might walk multiple times but no long walks. I definitely sweat a lot and have red cheeks but I just take the wig off and sit in front of a fan. Helps. Glad to hear I could be helpful to let you move. Helps the fatigue a lot.

I've been doing two 30 min walks per day most days for almost 2 weeks now. I took out my fitbit on the weekend and confirmed that it actually logs quite closely to the Samsung phone app. Managing 6000-7300 steps/day and on Saturday I did some yoga- found a review of the poses that zarovka recommended originally.

Port insertion today so that might affect activity and stretching for a bit (will have to be careful to not play tug with my dog on that side!)
