I took today as a rest day except for a short trip to the grocery store, only about a 10 to 15 min walk each way. I was surprised that my feet were not more sore after all the walking in a short space of time but fortunately, don't seem to be paying the price. I still figure taking it easy today was probably a good idea for me. No need to hurt my feet badly. I may find somewhere to go tomorrow, wherever it is, I will try to avoid majorly hilly sections.

I spent yesterday afternoon cooking for the week so didn't feel like exercising, but tonight I made sure to get out and get my steps in, along with some light weights and stretching when I got back. Tomorrow will be on the bike a little bit, the adjustments I made to sit more upright helped a lot. I'd love to do some lifting but I have to be on the ball for Wednesday early afternoon - maybe after that!

Good job Sondra, glad the bike is working better after your adjustments. I can also agree about the lifting. I have the walking down pat but admit I do not do enough strength training. May get into that later on.

    hi fitness friends!

it’s my off week so trying to cram all my fitness in while feeling good. Hiked about an hour yesterday while geocaching with kids. Did an hour of yoga with Adrienne on YouTube (love her!) and ran a half mile today. Remembered I don’t like to run but Iwant to do virtual 5k turkey trot with family next month so need to condition.

Taking shorter walks after meals today. Not sure when the next long distance will be. Not feeling the elliptical lately. Will do it whenever the mood strikes.

Other Half was out last night so I decided to work out anyway to alleviate boredom. I did 20 mins on the bike and 40min lifting weights. Felt incredible after and all through today - really helped me power through a presentation. Somehow I wasn't achy like before, so I am guessing a reduced time on the bike + sitting more upright didnt strain my sternum and shoulders.

My lower back feels so good and strong after these workouts too, you would never know thats where my mets are. No wonder I was confused for so long!

I will walk tonight after dinner, but my feet hurt so much in the evenings after walks, where I need the cane to get off the sofa and the first few steps. Is that the letrozole?

Not seeing sore feet in the list of side effects of the letrozole but I know that sometimes things can be related. My feet are sometimes sore but it is more related to arthritis. If it is that painful to where you need a cane, you may want to stick to the bike and walk alternating days to give your feet a rest. I walked the 22 km over the past weekend have rested my feet for a couple of days other than short walks to the grocery store. I also have my elliptical to take the pressure off.

Not exercising today, doing more surveys for cash today. Planning to walk long distance probably tomorrow I think.

Mara, that’s a long walk! Particularly with the hills. That’s great.

I did 4 miles yesterday and ran (slowly) about 3 of those miles. Sore legs today, but it was good

Lehrski, thank you. Planning another longer walk tomorrow. Not sure where I will go. I want a morning walk I think. May walk 11K for some Walmart grocery shopping, only a little bit and some lunch on the way home. I like to stop and eat in the middle. Surprisingly my feet are not super sore after some of these walks nor are my muscles. Awesome job with your running. I am not a runner and I adopt a very steady pace so I do not tire out. I also try to be careful about how much I am carrying home. I use a knapsack to hold what I need. We will see tomorrow where I go. Last couple of days I have taken it easy filling out a lot of surveys for cash but I am itching to get out tomorrow early to do something but be home by early afternoon. My other secret is that my breakfast is always the same. I don't like eggs or bacon or stuff like that, and cereal will not stay with me. I have 1/3 cup black beans, handful of shredded cheese, spinach that has been crunched up from being kept in the freezer. I zap for a couple of minutes in a microwave to melt the cheese and after I put a spoonful of queso (think melted velveta and salsa combined) and a small handful of tortilla chips or high fiber bran cereal for the crunch. It is an absolutely delicious and nutritious start to the day and certainly fuels the long walks. I never tire of these meals. They are my favourite.

Happy full/ blue moon Halloween 🎃

I cooked my fav pumpkin soup, apart from strange costumes that I hate, I like Halloween food candy pies, but this year no pie for me since I am off-sure!

Had a strange week, wild fire was quite near to us and got advised for vulnerable people to evacuate which with mbc I was so in that category, smoke or virus! considering covid situation no where would be safer! So we decided staying in, all windows and doors closed, my tiredness was double, can’t say it was related to 3rd week of my meds or lack of oxygen/ clean air or both! Thanks to all selfless firefighters, they were able to control the fire before hitting the city. I walked around 20 minutes yesterday evening, I chose evening to avoid crowds. It was only one week but I felt how much missed walking! We can’t understand value of simple things until we lose them.. Today the air quality is much better, I am going to get benefit of it so plan to walk 2 courses, yay!

Mara, bravo for long long walking, it was a marathon 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Glad you were able to get out in fresher air and so glad the firefighters kept the fires away from the city. Good job walking.

Today was cold so I did not even get sweaty walking the 11km which was nice. My feet do get sore but I partly think it is arthritis more than the walking so I do keep on it. All I did was pick up a few items from the dollar tree further away.

We had a really high tide on Saturday so a friend suggested doing a car shuttle and paddling down a tide water creek and out to a bay. It was really good. Longest standup paddle yet - 3 miles. I started to get tired at the end when we hit the bay and the wind/waves picked up. I’m really new at this and don’t have the balance yet for waves but I took a deep breath and knocked out the last half mile to the car. Loads of birds - herons, egrets, swallows, plovers

Good for you lehrski, I like that you have the option to do something like that. Glad you got to enjoy the birds.

I confess the walking took a beating this weekend, treadmill only due to some poor weather, snow yesterday and howling winds and then starting from tomorrow, almost constant sunshine and record warm tenperatures. You can be I will be scheduling in some LONG LONG walks over the next few days. I did go to the grocery store today. I also pedaled my cubii as well. I just need to learn to listen to music or watch youtube with it.

Well, I’m pretty pleased that yesterday I walked for 30 minutes, and today I did a little bit of leaf cleanup outside, and my online yoga class. With feeling so tired and always trying to manage the gastrointestinal stuff, that is a big deal for me these days. I hope I can continue doing at least one of these each day.

Sondra, when I was on letrozole (with Ibrance), my feet were very sore when I first got out of bed, but improved with warmup. Maybe you should see a podiatrist to rule out something like plantar fasciitis. It is easy to assume everything is a side effect, and miss something else that is going on. For example, I learned recently, while investigating another problem, that I had adrenal insufficiency. That is a cause of fatigue separate from the usual treatment side effect.

SP, what you did was GREAT! Good for you. I am also glad you figured out that part of the fatigue you are suffering was not SE related. I also tend to relate everything to my Herceptin myself too.

I did a cycle + weights workout tonight. My upper back rotation is really coming along and its so much more comfortable, it had been unbelievably stiff for the last year or so. Funny how the thoracic needs twisting, but the lumbar needs front and back movement! Right now this weights day, walk day, long cycle day, walk day, etc routine seems to be working really well for me and I get a good workout without wiping myself out.

Re: my feet, its only a few steps in the morning getting out of bed, or getting off the couch only in the evenings. But never getting off the couch in the mornings. And they feel fine when walking its just when I sit and then stand up and get moving again. I do try to stretch my calves in the evenings or after exercise, and I think that may be helping a bit.

I miss the pool :( They are closed now for lockdown.

SP - every little counts. Whatever you can do within your limits. Last December when flat on my back I would flex my feet up and down! :)

Sondra, I hope your pool will reopen soon, who knows with this pandemic. Glad to hear you are enjoying the bike.

I was disappointed in myself, wanted to walk for 5 km to the mall but I tired out probably 25 mins in so I took the bus. Went to the stores I wanted to but thinking I need to just walk smaller bits more often and use elliptical to strengthen my legs. Not going to fret about it, just take the bus as needed. I have been sitting and filling out surveys a lot and the long distance walking has fallen by the way side. Might need more carbs with my breakfast for more energy. Get plenty of protein and iron with the beans, cheese, queso and spinach. I added chips too. I will get shorter walks because I have to walk to the bus stop to get my new bus pass. 4

I just need to organize my day better so I don't sit hours at a time.

Thank you for the encouragement, Mara and Sondra!

Sondra, that pain when you first get up or first start moving does sound like my experience on letrozole. Even after lying still in shavasana yoga pose or standing still in dance class for a few minutes, I would need to wave my fingers and gently open and close my fists to work out the ache before I continued. But again, sometimes more than one cause exists for a problem. I found myself more prone to injury while on letrozole, and developed trochanter bursitis, for which I had physical therapy. The therapist agreed that my tolerance was lowered by the drug, so that dance practice that would normally be ok could cause injury. She said several lighter sessions spaced out were better than one more intense session. You are smart to keep moving.

Mara, when I think about how well you have been for so long, and how your commitment to exercise has likely played a large role in that, it helps me to get off the couch. You really do inspire.

Thanks Shetland, I confess today was more difficult. I wanted to walk downtown which I did manage to do but I was so tired. I also had trouble because I started riding the bus the wrong way because the roads were torn up. Got myself turned around and bussed home. Feels nice to relax now. Planning more walks tomorrow.

My activity today was clearing around the cabin, I dragged several tree trunks and limbs, then broke them down into a brush pile and a firewood pile. It wore me out but I feel better having made a dent in a very big job.

I did not do much today, watched a tv show while pedalling my mini elliptical.

I did 114 minutes of exercise today to earn my miles for metavivor medal, I chose that amount to match the number of lives lost daily to MBC. I walked, did yoga, and dusted off the wii fit to do those fitness mini-games. I feel grateful to be able to exercise so much over a year into my stage 4 diagnosis. Keep at it, fitness friends!

Momichichi, that's an awesome achievement, good for you!

My initial exercise will involve an hour of walking round trip. Decided to hold off breakfast until I can go to the burger joint for an early brunch, opens at 1030 am here. Beyond that, not sure what else I might do other than the half an hour or so of the elliptical. We will see how much energy this gives me.

Momchichi awesome job 👍🏻 Just searched metavivor and learned something new.

Yesterday for some reasons I felt good, so went for my 20 minutes walk, it was light-raining and that boosted my mood too! Then I continued pt exercises when reached home, of course with several breaks, my level of energy was good! Today I planned to walk again see how far I can go! I am going to make best of it as I just start my first cycle of medication, I’ll try my best until 3rd week when fatigue shows up, but plan to ignore unwelcome fatigue haha!

Mara I hope you enjoyed Sunday brunch and the walk.

Stay safe and active everyone (((hugs))).

I am starting to think the best time for me to get a good brisk walk in is before breakfast. I did so much better today than I have done walking after a meal. I will keep this in mind whether indoor or outdoor walking.

Mara, that is good you found morning walk is best for you, so you are able to have daily plan. I am still not there yet but much much better than when I joined this thread, I see the difference. now I can manage days that fatigue bar is high! More efforts needed to limit fatigue days as less I can but I don’t push it to avoid negative outcome. I stopped comparing myself with my old self. I follow your suggestion about marching when I don’t feel to drag myself for outside-walk, it helped a lot, thanks again :)

I hope everyone is doing well.

I am glad that I was able to help in some small way to get you moving within your house, sometimes that is the easiest thing to do

I had a nice picnic lunch with my friend Debbie at a park. It was a little cool and windy, but sunny. We then walked through the park uphill and downhill parts as well as looked at the ducks in the river. It was a lovely walk which she said was 5km. It was so different walking with someone else. I hope to get to do it again soon. She also gave me a new perspective about my weight gain after changing my diet to beans with most meals. I told her I feel stronger, less likely to pass out like I used to, no longer anemic. She told me to stop focusing on the weight and just keep walking. So that is my new focus.

I find that my fatigue is better for me when I push myself. If I tire too soon, I will turn around and go home or take the bus if there is somewhere I am going but as long as I am going at a steady pace with a bit shorter steps, I don't tire as bad. On Monday, I walked 5 miles round trip, walked to my favourite burger joint, ordered a pepsi and a few mini cinnamon donuts, ate and drank at the restaurant and then turned around and went home. I felt like I needed a purpose for the walk. The sugar just gave me a boost. Tomorrow I have my Herceptin infusion so I will walk to and from the hospital. Probably should walk before my appointment too since it will get darker in the evening. Not sure I want to walk in the dark so much. We will see. It depends how hungry I feel after the infusion. I will probably get some peanuts and put some peanuts and a few chocolate chips to much on in the chemosuite. We will see.

mara, do you carry a flashlight with you when you walk in the "dusk"? We/I always carry one when we walk the dog in the evening. Not to help us see, but to help others see us. I also got a couple of these arm-band things that flash red - again so that people will see us.

I got the arm bands on Amazon and I'll try to post a link. (I think that's OK to do - delete my post if it's not OK.) In case the link doesn't work, it's a 2-pack LED Armband by BSEEN. It was $24.75 for the 2-pack and came with 2 extra batteries.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P95ZPBL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We also have a "Glow Dog" collar for our dog to wear when we walk him after dark. One of my neighbors calls our dog "Disco-dog". :)
