I beat It, that is really beautiful scenery. I love walking the paths by our local river myself. Very nice picture.

Yesterday was a total rest day as I was busy Saturday between exercise and then an early Thanksgiving dinner. Today, I have done 2 20 min treadmill walks and am now going to sit on the couch and use the cubii some more. I do like how gentle it is, dislike how heavy it is and the fact that I have to move furniture around. That is not the cubii's fault, just the fact I have a tiny apartment with fake hardwood that it would slide around on. I am still determined to use it though. Done 90 mins so far, going to watch Once Upon A Time next.

I don't know what was up yesterday. I fell 4 times trail running. First time trail running since the diagnosis in July Maybe I was more tired than I thought and pushed too hard. Or was just out of practice and wasn't stepping fast enough Scraped hand and a knee the size of a grapefruit. Grrr. I'll take a couple of days off. But I did get a beautiful view over the ocean at sunset.

Oh, I am sorry to hear about the falls lehrski. I am glad you were not more seriously injured. Rest up until the knee is less swollen.

Well, onto another day. Was supposed to get Herceptin but cancelled the appointment. I have a cold that although I don't feel bad now thanks to Tylenol and Advil, I feel would be worsened since Herceptin does cause me sinus congestion and mild coughing. I also don't want to make vulnerable cancer patients sick. I know I mask and constantly sanitize but you can never be tooo careful. I am planning to walk and get some extra cold meds and a cake. It is my late mother's birthday so I am getting a cake we both really enjoyed that I have not had for a long time. Going to walk a few times today, keep the mood up. I refuse to cry all day anymore and besides, Oct 14 is also "National Dessert Day" so no better way to celebrate that than with a piece of cake.

I am aiming for two to three hours of walking besides the other things I enjoy doing as well.

I am doing OK with the sadness so far, planning on going on a second walk for around half an hour. Had a long nap and am looking forward to the cake. I am glad I cancelled the Herceptin though. I am feeling fairly good due to the walks as well, mentally and physically too.

I hope you are recovering from your falls as well and the knee is less swollen.

I've been a lazy slug so can't report much activity but I did just come across this story. I'd heard of her before and lost track. Renee Seman sadly died in Jan 2020 after almost 6 yrs of MBC; she ran 6 marathons post MBC dx!

Wow. Thanks for posting that link moth. It is inspirational but I’m also sad that Renee has passed.

I don’t usually post on this thread because I’m terrible at exercising consistently, but I read all of your posts to keep trying to do better. It is a struggle, especially now that Tamoxifen has ruined my sleep.

oh Mara... I hope you overcome the cold by now. I almost did the same thing for my mother day, I went for a walk around the area that she liked and we used to walk together time to time, I felt her around, she passed last year couple of months before I diagnosed. I second you Mara, remembering our late loved one with what they like to do is the best way to overcome sadness. ((((Hug))))

I bet everyone keeps walking, stay active, lets kick this disease.

I had stressful weeks, the clinic staff treat cancer patients like they are only numbers, zero respect but big mouth... I use to drain stress from my body by activities like swimming/ running, but recently stress keeps me away being active. this thread inspires me to get up.

    Have a nice weekend everyone.

Ibeatit, there is still a tiny bit there that will clear up once I have been more active. Been sitting filling out surveys for cash and done limited housework so far. I do need to do some minor shopping so that will provide some walking outdoors. Nice and sunny but cooler. Think I will shop at a store closer by to get some things. I never felt that bad with it and other than a little bit of dry cough and a drippy nose earlier on, it was not bad. Similar to the SE I get from Herceptin in the first few days.

With regard to stressed out staff, they need to keep it to themselves as anyone in a medical setting, especially cancer clinic must also know we are stressed. If you are feeling espcially stressed out and unable to bring yourself to go out. Just stand up and march on the spot inside for 5 mins to a song you love. It is much easier sometimes and you don't need to lift your feet especially high. It will help modulate things if you are having a tough day. Up to you if you go fast or slow. Leslie Sansone videos provide a good beat. Beats back fatigue. 5 mins is plenty when it is hard to think about going out to walk.

I will enjoy my walk to the grocery store. Have laundry for when I get back as well which is enjoyable for me. I am one of those geeks that likes to combine home made wash soda with both name and generic brand powders to make everything last.

I decided I wanted to walk to Walmart which is 3 miles away and a walk I have done before. Got about 30 mins or so into the walk and lost steam. Took the bus the rest of the way. Got a few groceries but man they were heavy walking to and from the bus stop. I have to grab lighter loads. I don't use carts because it bugs my arm to pull groceries behind me. Prefer a heavy bag hanging on my left shoulder. It holds the most and easier to manage with my body weight.

Well, did treadmill walking today for a total of 90 mins. Best I felt like managing. Was hoping for 2 to 3 hours of walking. Oh well, there is tomorrow. I did have too large a breakfast which caused my BP to drop and I had to go lie down for a few minutes, fine now. Just need to make sure I eat smaller I guess. Otherwise, felt pretty good with what I did today.

I have undertaken eating smaller portions and walking 15 mins after every meal and snack. I am finding that I am struggling to find the time for an hours long walk was difficult but also overdoing it. So far so good today with the activity. Even the first 15 min walk boosted my energy and should be enough of a walk to allow me to still walk 3miles if I want to or just for a half hour outdoors. These indoor walks will be an addition to any walking I do when I go out.

great job walking, Mara - You’re a walking warrior! I’ve been geocaching with my teens and mom and fell on some wet leaves going off trail in a park Friday. Recovered in a couple days but I need to slow down! I felt sad Sunday when my husband ran a marathon on his own that had been canceled for COVID. He & I did a couch to 5K program in spring 2019 to get into running and I ran the whole 5k but he had to walk due to back pain. He later had surgery and feels great now but my cancer spread and I feel good but not marathon good. Just feel left behind although I’m super proud of him. But I stay active most days & shoot for a variety of exercise. Hope everyone stays moving as the weather turns colder!

The knee is better and I did a short 4 day trip up to Lake Tahoe. I felt well enough to do a wonderful hike to an alpine lake. I didn’t make it to the mountains this summer and had forgotten how happy it makes me to be in them.

lehrski, glad your knee is feeling better and the hike sounds good.

I am still walking, walked to chemo and will walk home as well. If not too tired, will walk to the burger joint for supper as a treat.

OK, I must say I am surprised I managed to do this but I walked to the hospital for chemo which is 2.5 km or 1.5 miles. Did my treatment. Started to walk home after treatment, walked another 5 K to get to my burger place where I had supper and then another 2K to get home.

I don't even know where the thought to do this to came from but I will admit I was pretty tired by the time I got to the burger place. Herceptin is targeted but I get knocked on my ass with the fatigue that settiles in so the fact I even thought to do this was surprising. I even wondered if I should stop at home but decided I would not go back out so just pressed on. The burger meal was good of course and the food livened up my walk home. I did 8.8 k or 5.5 miles round trip, the longest part after chemo. Can just surprise us sometimes what we can be capable of. I am not in super shape or super strong, it is a heavy effort, sweaty endeavor for me but now I have fewer excuses not do things.

    Cross posted to another thread.

I gardened yesterday and today, on top of regular twice daily walks. I also have stretches and strengthening exercises prescribed by my RMT which I've been working on. She said my glutes and paraspinal muscles are too weak so she prescribed specific exercise to target that.

Awesome job moth, you seem to have the ability to keep quite active as well. Glad you are able to get the RMT help with loosening things up and recommendations to strengthen where you need to. Glad to hear it.

I took the day off walking and decided to use my cubii elliptical while I did my surveys on the computer. Pedaled and made a few dollars for around 4 hours in total. Cubii says that the number of rotations divided by 2 is worth steps. So I did 20000 revolution which mimics 10000 steps minus hills and all. My treadmill has no incline either. but using it does help increase endurance and stamina in legs and feet. Can't fit one of those in here unfortunately. That is surprising because chemo day was yesterday and I only slept 4 hours as I was wired from all the walking to and from chemo to burger joint back to home across the city practically. Today I was not tired either. I will be going to bed tonight before I fall asleep on the couch. I have no real upper strength training except for lifting the elliptical to set it up and put it away under a chair when finished. Must weigh more than 20 lbs. I also lift my portable washer and spin dryer out of the tub for showers all the time, no other place to keep them.

Back on the horse - kinda literally!

I had been having a lot of intra rib pain and digestive issues since I started the spin bike. After some research I worked out that I needed to raise the handlebars and sit up more, as well as do stretching/strengthening exercises for thoracic back, given lumbar back got so weak. At any rate, I took two weeks off after the last episode and today got on for 20 mins, with raised handlebars, then did my usual bands and back strengthening exercises after. And squats and hip work. So far so good and no pain or digestive problems.

Sondra, I am so glad your problem is fixed so you can enjoy the bike pain free and without the digestive problems. Those spin bikes are certainly no joke and such a good workout.

I had to go pick up a package. I was going to take the bus as not too familiar but discovered I lost my pass. Luckily I did not have much on it but when I checked usage, it was obvious I dropped it somewhere along the way. I was frustrated and started crying and then dusted myself off. Turned off the waterworks and used change to take the bus. I decided to walk home because I just could not be bothered waiting. Only a 3K walk so far but I will do another walk this after noon after a snack before the thunderstorms roll in. It actually feels like rain is on the way even though it is sunny. They said there could be a tornado even.

Today is a calmer weather day, nice and cool and partly cloudy. Thought about how I want to exercise. Have decided to go to a further away Harvey's for a snack size burger meal and to pick up a couple extra. Close to 10 km walk roundtrip or 6.2 miles. I have gone farther but figure I should keep it up. May or may not visit a dollar store along the way. Not sure since I want to avoid super heavy items on a long walk. Just had a good breakfast of black beans, shredded cheese and spinach for my protein and energy and a few tortilla chips crumbled on top for carbs. Added a dollop of cheese sauce (cheese and salsa together) and went to town. Not a huge meal, but enough that will supply the energy for the walk. Looking forward to it.

Hi everyone, I must admit I get energy when I read your posts even though fatigue and leg numbness make me slow some days but especially keep reading your posts, inspire me big time, thumbs up for being active 👍🏻

Mara, I am sorry about the situation you faced, I hope and I am sure you are doing well now. I used the tip you shared here (5 minutes marching+ listening to the music) it helped reducing the stress, I like it, and I realized that how stress made me more fatigue and low energy. So... despite I am in 3rd week of medication, which means technically I am slow but I do keep it moving, start with light exercise then pt exercise, and 20-30 minutes walking every other day.

Moth I love gardening, these days I do a small portion of gardening: watering & trimming my indoor plants! I enjoy it.

Lehrski, Lake Tahoe trip is awesome, miss it there, I hope you enjoyed it.

    Have a nice weekend everyone.

ibeatit, good for you with the movement. It helps so much. It really does help fatigue so much.

I did do the 10k/6.2 mile walk. I stopped for lunch at my destination and came home. I walk steady when long distance walking. It took a couple of hours walking round trip. I was not even tired when I got home which I was glad about.

Today I am attempting a 12k/7.5 mile walk roundtrip. Little longer and a bit hillier from my end of town to another end. I plan to have a snack at a local restaurant to fuel up for the way home. Google says it will take an hour and 17 minutes but I do not attempt speed to avoid tripping so it will likely total around 3 hours of walking. Yesterdays walk did not tire me out. I am fueled up on beans, cheese, spinach and queso with some tortilla chips so I should not run out of energy. We will see, I can take the bus home if I fail but I am determined. Whish me luck.

Edited to add, I completed the walk mentioned above. I will say it was harder than others I have done because there are a lot of hills, mostly uphill. I did get a snack at the restaurant at the halfway point and made my way home. I was tired after but my pace was not slowed down which was surprising. Oh well, another challenge met today.
