Fun fact of the day, from Wiki: A group of peccaries that travel and live together is called a "squadron".

KBL, I communicated with EV11 in the past, and while I do not “know” her well enough to get involved, I can say that in October of this year she was well enough to be seeking her next clinical trial. It just seems she is not posting on BCO right now. I don’t know if that helps or not.

SandiBeach that sounds environmental. I hate that your family has to go through this cancer repeatedly. Wow

Jhl I remember in the 1980s there was mad cow disease and some people were infected from eating the meat. There were also numerous petroleum leaks from old gas station leaking tanks in our area. Since me my next door neighbor both had bc and my neighbor a couple across the street both had cancer I always suspected water, or bc all three households had gardens and stuff.

Mae I’m glad you have Dr Rogers. My doctor is from a different culture and he’s warmer than all of the doctors I’ve had over the years. Interestingly he’s from a Latino country too.

It’s nice seeing everyone this evening. I think I gave my contact info to Mel. I asked my youngest daughter to check in for me when I was unable but she may not remember. MothI’m glad we’re talking about this and hope we can come up with a plan.

Mara good job taking a break and stocking g up.

Candy if we have to lock down again I’m fine with it just praying we have a viable plan so everyone can feel connected to the solution.

ShetlandPony, thank you so much for that information. I’m so glad to know she’s doing well. I really appreciated having someone who had sort of the same thing I’m going through. Very few that I know of have it in the stomach or peritoneum. I really appreciate you letting me know.

Agree with you all on the disappearance issue and how hard that is.... there might be a thing where folk think no-one will notice if they disappear, but we clearly do!

I wonder if it might be an idea for the Mods to add in an option encourage folk to let their boards know if they are:

    1. taking a break ....lots of us do that already by posting, but an edit option would be good.

    2. opting out but doing OK

3.opting out as focussing on the time I have left.

    Or something like that.

    Thoughts?

Mae I have never heard of javelinas before you posted pics....every day is indeed a learning day!

Mae - I ordered & just received the book you recommended and it's great. Shit You Need When I'm Gone. This will be a good place to direct survivors to notify our BCO friends.

Oops sorry. Correction for the title.

Candy, that's great walking 1/2 mile in 20 minutes. You go girl.

Mae, are the javalinas native to Texas or were they brought there from elsewhere? They're kind of mean, aren't they?

I’m in on the commitment to have DH notify this thread when I’m gone. I really miss Moomala’s posts and am so sad that we don’t know where she is or what has happened to her. Of course, my mind goes to the worse scenario. Sad.

Hope all here are doing well.

I am going to take advantage of the nice weather, though cool and walk up to the Harvey's for breakfast, have not long distance walked since Wednesday which was a couple of miles. I need to get out of the house so if I go up now, I can be home in the afternoon for surveys and such or finishing laundry that I let pile up yesterday. I am going to wear my New Balance shoes this time as they will hold my feet in better alignment. I think the slip on walking shoes are comfortable but I think I need something heavier duty. Total walk round trip will be 12K or 7.5 miles round trip with a rest when I eat my meal and then just head home.

Wow, Mara, you are a walking machine! So inspirational.

I need to get back to walking and water walking. Reading your exercise every day is giving me that push.

Minus, glad you got the book, I couldn’t help myself with that title. It’s simple but has everything someone would need.

Bliss, they’re native to the southwest US and parts of South America I believe. And yeah, they’re not pets, they’re scrappy, we’ve already seen some fights over food and they have tusks, we won’t be attempting to pet them.

If I saw those things. I’d be very careful. Who knows what they would do. They look like little warriors. Some even get kinda big!!

BevJen, just got home from this walk. It was fine going, even with all the uphill parts, got to the restaurant and had my meal. Started walking home. Got maybe 25 mins or 30 mins in, still a lot of uphill parts. Was waiting at a traffic light, it said walk and I started going, I was starting to tire and not moving particularly fast, the person who was turning left sped and brought their car very close to me, I guess I was not moving fast enough. Needless to say I was shocked and promptly started crying which does not help walking when you are getting tired. I boo hooed my way home and found that I was so tired, I hunched forward, not sure why. Made it home and will be sitting on my butt. In hindsight, I wish I could have found some anger energy at such a careless driver and used that to get the rest of the way. The crying was fear and anger but was more draining. Will file that away for next time.

Most of the walk was lovely and enjoy going through my own neighbourhood here and part of my old neighbourhood as well. Not going to let a jerk ruin it for me and overall, I feel better than before the walk.

    Mara,

You hit the nail on the head -- what a jerk! I absolutely hate it when people do that sort of thing to pedestrians. Have a little bit of patience.

Sorry that your walking bliss was interrupted, but good for you, anyway.

BevJen, I feel much better now and not sad at all. I think that was just stress from being scared. I hope the person wrecks their vehicle without injuring anyone driving so aggressively.

I have recovered completely over the upset and tiredness of the walk home. I am feeling happy that I met my walking goal today. Hungry for supper soon, probably fuel up with my usual bean meal. Finishing up some laundry as well.

Gotta give my DH some credit, he’s been on the deck building a temporary outdoor shower in 56 degree weather with 20 mph wind gusts for nearly 2 hours. We’re having our Louisiana friends up for thanksgiving and will have hot water for the shower but once your out, it’ll be in the 30’s or 40’s, brrr

    Mae,

Your hubby sounds like a great guy. I can’t wait to see everything when it’s done.

Did I misread, or did you write a book?

  • illimae
    illimae Member Posts: 5,724

Booboo, he really is. I sometimes get frustrated by certain things but I have remind myself that he’s not really lacking, I’m just kinda a efficiency/control freak.

No book for me, I don’t even read. I get bored, distracted and lose my place on the page and end up rereading the same stuff, so frustrating. I figure, if it’s good enough, someone will make a movie.

Oh boy. You and I are a lot alike, Mae. I have OCD, so I really feel bad sometimes for my DH. It’s controlled by my Zoloft, but when I don’t take it (forget), I can get a lot cleaned! My family calls me the
“mad wiper” because I will wipe a stone countertop until it has a dent in it Happy. It’s all about what I can control and what I can’t.

Mel - have you heard any update from Philly? I know the discussion about missing people when they head off was a few pages ago, but I was wondering how she was doing on Tamoxifen was it?

I've wondered about Frisky quite a bit as well, though I know she was struggling a lot last winter. And of course Moomala. I hope they know they are missed.

Not much happening here - about to make dinner (lentil+mushroom bolognese) and Other Half has the golf on. Wet, windy weekend, although Friday evening we had street corner drinks with friends. I got a new internal role, so will be making a move early December to a smaller team, doing more interesting stuff, under a director I work well with, with far less politics and I can be left alone to do what I was hired to do rather than dick around with "oh, did I stroke so and sos ego enough by showing up to enough pointless meetings?" Ain't no one got time for THAT anymore.

An interesting article today in the Guardian about a lady with mTNBC and living with Covid + cancer:

    Have a good one, all!

Great article, Sondra! Thanks for sharing that. I get articles from The Guardian that pop up on my iPhone news feed. I generally like them.

Congrats on the new internal role!

Dinner sounds good, no if you can just can it somehow and send it to Canada SillyHeart

I have sat on my butt most of the day, surveys. After yesterdays terrible walk home bent over, my back muscles do not feel good. I feel I need to rearrange my walking. If it is flat, I can stand up to 5 K or more but if it is hilly, I may go shorter but not the full 12K. I feel no need to challenge myself like that. I can do shorter walks more often than once a day and not be in pain. Not walking today. Having birthday supper over at DB tonight which will be nice I think.

Booboo, I’ve never been officially diagnosed with OCD but it’s there. I loved the show Monk partly because I identified a lot with it. Examples:

I hate pens missing the caps

I often eat skittles in rows organized by color

DH must give me 3 kisses before bed, if even one is quick or lacking, he must start over again, lol

Any one tried audiobooks (Stephen Fry). Or talk radio? I listen to the BBC radio 4 or world radio... has to be the most soporific thing out there...those voices are just so calming in the middle of the night!

Karen, I listen to audiobooks & podcasts & radio shows. On our last driving holiday we had Stephen Fry reading The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on the way there, and John Finnemore's Souvenir sketch show on the way back.

I have a whole bunch of audiobooks. The one I've never actually managed to finish without big gaps is Richard Armitage reading Sylvester by Georgette Heyer. I love Armitage's voice and he just lulls me to sleep :D

Michelle McNamara's I'll be Gone in the Dark is NOT soothing. I enjoyed it a lot but not lulling.

I'm currently listening to Jacqueline Winspear's mysteries and the JK Rowling mysteries written under the pen name of Robert Galbraith. Just finished the first one.

Mostly though I listen to true crime podcasts.

Not audiobooks but I listen to sleep stories on a couple different phone apps. One was Stephen Fry reading about some Lavender fields, one was John MacEnroe reading the rules of Tennis and my favorite was the old British Shipping Forecast, our like a light!
