I will take the vaccine when my MO says to get it, but I don't want to be one of first. I'd like to see there aren't adverse SEs, too. My understanding is that it usually takes years for vaccine development because research teams spend up to two years just securing funding then they sometimes have problems getting enough trial volunteers. With quick and automatic government funding that 2-yr. lag was eliminated and it seemed people were eager to volunteer for trials because of the pandemic. Dr. Fauci expected at least 12 mos. for research and trials after funding was secured, and that's pretty much what's happened. I don't think these pharma companies or the FDA have bowed to political pressure to put out a vaccine that will be ineffective or harmful, so I am keen to get it.

hey I've tried searching the board but not successful

does anyone remember the name of a poster on the board who had cancer & a small store selling chemo caps? I think maybe her name was Debbie/Debby and she, her sister & her mother all got dx with bc within a few years. I bought some caps from her shop last time & want more but I cannot find her, the link to her store or anything ...

UPDATE - nvm! I found it! It's Denise & the store is hellocourage.com

Totally agree about people possibly not liking those still wearing masks after a vaccine is widely distributed but masks also can reduce spread of any disease spread through droplets as well. May minimize colds and flu as well. Win win to me. I won't stop wearing them I do not think since I really do not give a fig about what people who do not know me think of me.

    Good after noon ladies

Besides oxycodone what are other pain medications that you guys have tried and what combo works best? My co-worker friend was dx last year and now last week stage 4 lots of pain and she will have her PET scan appt Monday but that’s not gonna relieve any pain and she has to do all the radiation mapping and stuff first. Ugh. I seem to remember someone saying a pain med that starts with “G”.

Thanks for the help and everyone have the best day possible.

I will still mask after the vaccine. I masked before Covid during cold/flu season due to my low white counts on the Ibrance. I do not mind. I can get more from Mel too. As far as my community, hahahaha. They don't mask now. Did I post here about taking my cat to the vet and the staff getting shi@$y about me asking them to mask. "They have their rights too" I was told. Then I went back there a few weeks later to buy some cat food and they were shi##y again and still no mask wearing. And my church folks wear the mask into the building then take it off-- reported to me by those that go to in-person church.

Pouring rain here. Looks like November with the trees bare and cloudy.

I will continue to mask, too, especially in crowded indoor spaces. Getting a vaccine doesn't necessarily mean that you won't get something, but that it shouldn't be as terrible as if you didn't have the vaccine. And that's something that I don't think they necessarily know about this vaccine yet.

I'm sure we will all find out more from our MOs, and it will be interesting to read what they all say.

Tanya, is she trying opioids and they're not working or is she avoiding opioids for some reason?

Gabapentin is not really effective to relieve acute pain quickly. It takes time to work and it works best as an adjunct with other pain relievers.

For fast relief of acute pain, opioids are the go-to.

Mild opioids are options like codeine (T3s for example) or tramadol.

Then stronger opioids like hydromorphine, morphine...

Here's the pain treatment ladder: https://professionals.wrha.mb.ca/old/professionals...

step 1 is non opioid + adjuvant (like gabapentin or steroids etc) Your non opioid would be acetaminophen (watch tylenol daily max carefully as it's easy to od on tylenol & cause permanent liver damage. You can take tylenol and advil together or stagger them - take 1 dose of tylenol and then 2h later take the advil. Again, watch daily maximums) Tylenol + Advil together in a large dose is the most common thing they give in the ER for pain. Makes people really angry but these are really quite effective pain meds, even though they're otc. Naproxen is another non opioid option.

step 2 is mild opioids - T3 and tramadol and tramacet are here..

    step 3 is strong opioids

She may need a stat referral to a palliative team - they're the pain relief experts & would help her ride this out until the rads also start working.

As far as I'm concerned the goal of every cancer care team should be NO pain for the pt.

    best wishes for your friend

Oh, aren’t they beautiful?! Looks like a herd of mammas and young ‘uns. The black one looks pregnant. Have you noticed that the groups are either mares and young, or bachelor bands?

that's so awesome Mae. They indeed are beautiful! Amazing how they just aren't afraid. Thanks for sharing.

My friend ended up passing away yesterday, because of the aneurysm. The took her off of the machines. She was 50. Two girls. And her mother were with her. So sad. Parents shouldn’t bury their children. Life sometimes blows. Good person she was too.

Mel, I’m so sorry for your loss. I can’t even imagine what her family is going through.

Mae, we just get deer at our property. Yours are so interesting.

    Mel,

That news is always so difficult to hear. So sorry you have to go through another loss. But if she was hooked up to machines to live, then better to go, in my opinion. I have a DNR on my living will. I do not want to live by machines. Anyway, I will pray for her family, and you too.

Mel, still thinking of you and your friends family today.

Laurie, I have the same, I don't wat to be revived no matter if it is cancer or something else. Don't want to be alive in a home somewhere by myself either.

It is snowing quite a bit today so I am going to check out my new walking boots, they are not tall, just the size of shoes but today may be the day to do multiple short walks in all the various boots I have. Get acclimated to wearing them all.

Just logging back on. So many posts.

Chicagoan- My friend and his dad that contracted Covid are ok now. My friend (my age at 50) did ok. Mild symptoms. Back at work and doing fine. His dad (age 78) was in the hospital a couple of days with pneumonia but ok now. The dad's sister and husband caught Covid and she died (age 87) and her husband was in the hospital, then home, now back in the hospital with a stroke. He attended the funeral (graveside) of his wife per Zoom from his hospital room. I think my friend "gets it" now.

    Mae- Neat!!!!

Mel- Sorry for the loss of your friend.

Mara- I would like some snow. Poured her last night. Today cloudy and in the 40's. Would be nice to watch the snow fall and not have to get out in it. (since I have no place to go anyway)

Candy - I loved your "not have to get out in it" comment about snow. I was raised in the Chicago area, a lived there twice again, and I can definitely say I like snow better when I don't have to get out in it. There is nothing like the quiet peace and beauty of the morning after an overnight snowfall...when you dont have to get out in it.

SeeQ- In Southern Illinois we don't have too many large snowfalls. But there have been times I have had to go out in the dark of morning and shovel a path to my vehicle and then shovel it out so I could get to work by 7am. Now, I do not work. And with Covid and isolating indoors, I could just sit and watch the snow fall. It is a "quiet peace and beauty" of the snow. Last winter we had no snow here.

This is the biggest herd I’ve seen around, usually there are small groups of Mares and little one but also some single ones, which I presume are males.

Our snow will not stay too long, but I am planning to try out my new walking boots, more like shoes with the tread of a boot with vibram. They slip on which is preferable to me as well. It does look pretty to see, that is for sure.

I have not even had breakfast and not sure what is going on but I am listening to music for money and bouncing along to the christmas songs and randomly singing them myself. I am in a good mood and have not even walked to make that happen. That is nice for a change. I do intend to walk today as I need to see how slippy straight up snow would be. I have footwear for deep snow, less than deep snow, cleats for icy patches.

Candy-That's very sad about your friend's aunt and uncle. How awful to attend your spouse's funeral by Zoom.

Mel-Sorry to hear about your friend.
