KBL - so sorry to learn of your brother's passing. Cancer steals our friends and family. My brother who is 15 years older has been treating stage 4 prostate cancer for some time but has been stable. In the back of my mind is who goes first :(

Cowgal - we have always had goldens, currently have 3 girls, 10.5, 8 and 2. The 2 youngest are grandmother and granddaughter. Like labs, they are great family dogs. They have been my therapy partners through this MBC journey and COVID. I love how you describe your horse.

    Hi All,

I’m sorry about the misinformation. I didn’t have to go into the hospital (yet). My oncologist is trying to lower my calcium by giving me IV fluids, and I got my Xgeva shot too. I go back into infusion tomorrow for more IV fluids, and more bloodwork, and then we’ll see what the numbers look like.

Thank you for your very nice thoughts. The Abraxane is treating me well. Hope it continues.

Mel, are you okay? Did you break anything? I was ashamed to tell you all how unsteady I am on my feet. Falling is very common with the amount of drugs we take and the fatigue we deal with. I hope you are ok my friend.

Thank you all so much. I really appreciate you. My brother just found out in October he was sick. He had had a pleural effusion. Once they did the CT scan, he had it in his kidney, liver, and lungs. It’s crazy how sometimes you feel fine one day and then bam. He died just the way he wanted. He was at home with hospice with his grandchildren near and a sweet daughter-in-law who took care of him his final weeks. When I spoke to him last, he was very much at peace and ready. I just didn’t think he would go so quickly. I had written him around the 10th of January, and he did write me back on the 13th that was the last time I heard from him

I am the baby of the family. I know my oldest brother usually contacts the rest of us to say hi, and he was also my mother’s person to take care of her estate. It can’t be easy

    Mel, I hope you’re okay.

    KBL,

Please accept my belated condolences on the passing of your brother. I can feel in your written words how much you loved him, and your family. How blessed we are when we have a family who will surround us when you need them. Hope your days ahead are filled with good memories.

    KBL,

So sorry to hear about your brother. I'm glad at least that he didn't have to suffer for too long and was surrounded by loving family as he passed. Peace to you and to all who loved him.

Hi ladies. I am ok. But just ok. I really hurt myself. Feels like I broke my Rear end on one side. Just not fun. I can walk but I’m limping. And getting up is no fun. My DH said X-ray if I’m not better some what tomorrow! Pain in the ass literally.

KBL-very sorry for your loss. ((Hugs))

    Mel- keep us updated.

    Waves to everyone!

I didn't walk today and I'm feeling very sluggish. I had 2nds at dinner so that didnt help.

My scalp is sore and I can barely wash it and give it a good scrub in the shower. Similar to how it felt the first time with chemo hair loss. I think I see thinning around my forehead.

Hope everyone had a good day.

KBL, "I'm sorry" seem so inadequate. Maybe knowing how much you are cared for will help just a little.

    Hugs and tears...

Hi to all, I just wanted you to know I'm still here. Its been really stressful here for the last year so I'm finding it hard to follow and especially to reply. I think of you all often and it's comforting to know you are there. May you all have a wonderful 2021.

Well my port is in now, I'm a bit tender, apparently they had to wrestle it into place with a bit of force, which caused a bit of bleeding and bruising. Now I just hope navelbine doesn't give me too many SE's.

Have as peaceful and relaxing a weekend as possible.

Kitty Kat~I am glad that’s over with for you. I was glad to have my port through this. My veins are toast. No other way to get blood from me. Sometimes my hands. But not a lot. I’m sorry you’re sore. Just take it easy and be gentle when you cough. If you can possibly. That hurt me when I got mine for at least the first week .

Limping in for pocket duty. If needed. Hugs to all

Tip for everyone -- if you have "difficult" veins as I do, then ask your provider to use a hot pad or hot towel to make your veins rise up -- this happened to me for the first time about a week ago -- they couldn't find a suitable vein (and told me this is often the result of prior chemo, as I've had) so they did this. Worked like a charm. One of the med techs also told me that one of her patients lifts light weights before coming in, and that seems to help too.

    Hello all.

Mel- Glad you are doing ok, but if you continue to hurt today then get an x-ray. Sometimes a person can have a small fracture and keep walking on it. Not good. Just had a church friend with this same thing. She tripped over her shoelace and fell on her butt--- before Christmas. She continued to hurt and finally got a CT that showed a fracture in her pelvis. Now she is doing therapy and on pain meds. Bone has to just heal on its own.

Boo- Hope your numbers are better today.

Today I went to Walmart curbside pick up of my grocery order. I stopped by my church. Only the Pastor was there and he had on a mask, so we talked for a bit. I am going to feel so weird if I ever get back to going to church and getting out again. Like I have forgotten how to be around people. Kind of weird. Like I am a hermit and I was going out into the world today.

Hope all are ok. Have not heard from Karen with her lung draining from Monday.

Mae- How about your DH MRI results?

  • illimae
    illimae Member Posts: 5,721

Got DH’s MRI results this morning and he has a brain tumor. Fortunately, it is a rare but benign tiny mass, which isn’t the cause of symptoms and should not be a problem unless is grows large enough to block the fluid flow in the ventricle. Neurologist says no worries, follow up MRI next year.

This does however, provide DH with proof that his sympathetic symptoms are real. He has a history of this, like back pain when a former boss was pregnant and feeling weak and nauseous while I was on chemo. Now this tumor, which I located in the 4th ventricle and the spot I had zapped last month was in the 4th ventricle. No cause for concern, so we had a good laugh, calling ourselves “the tumor twins” lol.

I’ve been really enjoying the Bernie memes, do I made one myself. This is us at the UFO museum in Rosewell s couple years ago.

Mae, glad to hear that your DH tumour is benign. My niece's partner also has a benign tumour that they monitor each year via MRI as well. That picture is cute. Love those Bernie pictures.

    Mae,

My heart skipped a beat when I read the first sentence. But then you wrote benign....big sigh....and I am so very glad to hear that. You two are so cute. You look like you could get in some big trouble together!

Candy, I went in for my bag of IV fluids and bloodwork, and my calcium numbers are coming down. I’m so glad because there is nothing worse then going into the hospital over a weekend. My MO said the numbers will likely continue to drop as Xgeva does its thing. Whew. Dodged that one.

Boo- Glad the calcium numbers are going down.

Thank you, Kitty. Glad you got your port in. Hope everything works out okay.

Mel, sorry you’re still hurting. Ouch.

Mae, glad the tumor is benign, but gosh, really? Ugh.

Booboo, glad your numbers are falling.

Candy, I’m glad you got to talk to your pastor and got out for a little bit today.

Good tip, BevJen. I have been fortunate not to need a port. I’m sure it’s becUse I haven’t had chemo. So far my veins are holding up from all the needle pokes.

Mae - I'm glad the tumor in your husband's brain is benign but jeeeez, who needed that.. :( I hope his troubling symptoms abate with more R&R

Boo - glad those calcium numbers are dropping!

candy - good that you got out to do things!

I had my metastatic zoom meeting this morning & that was good. We talked about important stuff. I was busy with a few other things & then made a big vegan lasagna. Still have Zumba, 1 more dog walk & I'm going to pick up my dd from work in a bit.

Great news Mae, what a relief for you both.

Good to hear your calcium numbers are dropping Boo, mine go the other way occasionally and I have to take extra calcium before I can have my xgeva shot.

My daughter and I are taking Finn out to a dinosaur exhibition tomorrow and having lunch on the beach after, glad to have something nice to look forward to for a change

Mae - great news on hubs. Love the Bernie meme😂.

I swear I hate having anything to do with hospitals anymore. Wednesday my hubs had his cardio version. A 5 minute procedure had him in the hospital for 4 hours. They actually do it right in the pre-op room where you change clothes. Anesthesia was tied up so they were over an hour late and then there was no one to take out his IV after so he could get dressed to leave. As we are 90 minutes from our medical center that makes for a very long day, as some of you know who travel a long distance for specialty care.

Then yesterday went back - another 90 minute trip - for lab and Xgeva injection. Waited 2.5 hours in chemoland for a quick shot. Do any of you have to wait that long? I know they don’t prep the shot until you have labs but mine were a quick turn around. Another day shot. Thank God for nice sunny weather for both trips. And for our phones that let us read and communicate while waiting!

Have a peaceful weekend! Hope those with winter weather advisories or watches stay safe

I typically wait 90 to 120 mins before a chemo app't or doctor app't. Not fun but I come prepared with snacks from home and movies or tv shows to watch to pass the time. The only time it really sucks is when I have a doctor appointment as well as the chemo app't.

Or if the dreaded port decides to clog. That’s always fun. And then you sit waiting for the heparin to kick In and clot bust. Then I’m there over an hour. That’s slightly annoying. If these ladies weren’t so wonderful . Thank goodness they are!
