Thank you, Seeq. So far, so good. I'm in north Florida right now, where it's 64, and I have the front and back open. I'm actually chilly. My daughter is down at my other house, and right now, it's just a little wind and rain. It says they're expecting about seven inches in the next 24 hours where she is.

Tanya, I know you weren't at our Monday meeting, but I hope you stay safe. I'm so thankful the track changed, but I feel for those in its path.

Living, I have been thinking about you after seeing devastation left by Fiona on the news. I am glad you are not hurt and hope you get through to your son soon.

Kbl, I am in your pocket as well for Irma to pass quickly without too much damage. Your SIL is a hero as well.

I am adding my thoughts for those of you who have or will be impacted by the storms. Living, I am glad that you were not affected even worse by Fiona. I hope that things begin to return to a more normal state soon. For those of you in Ian’s path, please be safe. If you did not evacuate, find safe shelter. I hope you don’t experience any severe damage.

Hugs and prayers to all of you, Lynne

Still no power out here. Will be many days. My husband tried to go down the road to the next small village but had to turn around and come back because of the mess of debri etc. Unfortunately we are on the same grid as the next village. My husband also took a drive into Charlottetown on the main roads to check up on special son. Fortunately they do have power but no internet or phone lines working. The 3 residents are good but going a bit housebound crazy with no internet to access their tablets.

I am thinking of all people in the path of Hurricane Ian. Stay safe. I also give thanks to all emergency responders and the crews working hard to clean up the total mess.

Wow, these storms are so scary. I'm glad to hear that everyone seems to be OK right now, even without power. Thank you for the updates.

    Good afternoon ladies

So far we have electricity in Tampa. It took a lot to prep for what “might” happen. Many stores out of water bread supplies. I went to dr appt yesterday for treatment and Monday did physical therapy. Sorry to say I wonder if it’s worth it but I keep trying. It’s raining steadily all patio furniture tied up. We’ve had a lot on our plate lately and I haven’t shared bc we’re all going through stuff.

Candy sorry to hear about your weird fever. Grateful that you are diligent with your health care. my back pain hasn’t gotten any better since the surgery and I’ve been doing the physical therapy but am disillusioned.

Boo-boo good to see you mainly raining and breezy here so far. Not supposed to get the most impact until 3:00.

KBL it’s about 75 here. I’m inland about a mile from Hillsborough river.

Livingiv sorry about Fiona. I’m happy your son is ok.

Mel your painting is beautiful I love all the colors.

Dodgers girl good luck with your MUGA test and upcoming treatment options.

Sondra F summer packing sounds nice and organized. I remember doing seasonal packing when I lived in NY.

Mae the Texas sky is clear and beautiful.

Goldens I hope your rash gets under control soon.

Duthchiris I hope and pray the chemo and rads knock the cancer cells out into oblivion. Hugs dear sis.

Sunshine what tx are you on? Does it contribute to insomnia? I have anxiety at night. I take ambien and MM and usually it works. I also have to psych my own mind not to think bad cancer thoughts ugh.

Wren thanks for the extra balloons info. I just have this nice image in my mind of what that looked like.

Mara congrats on the encouraging article, it certainly gives hope to others. I’m happy you got to hang out with a friend and get interesting lunch.

50’s girl hope all is well with you. Florida has a lot of experience with these storms. I think sometimes people just don’t do what they’re told. The rest is of course just depending how it hits, what time etc.

See Q kikomoon and Emac I saw your posts and am waving hello to all. Anyone I missed I hope to check in again soon as long as we have power

    Take care all

Living, glad your special son is alright and yes, no power for days is scary for sure. No internet and phone are definitely bad as our lives are so dependent on these things lately. I guess they mean it when they say to have emergency water and food.

For anyone in Ian's path, I too send my thoughts and wishes for no or light damage as well.

I am staying home which really is not such a big surprise, working hard on surveys, games and other things that make extra money for my budget. I need to keep this as a sort of job. Laundry done, swept and just had a hashbrown and two eggs, salted and just added a little mayo with ketchup. Very basic but does taste good. Thinking about baking some beans in advance so I can just add them, will make up some pasta or something and add them and some of the beefless ground as well as some of the spinach in my freezer.

Tanya—- hope the power holds and that Tampa continues to hold up the Ian. Tampa is such a beautiful city

KBL— hope your family is doing well in your other home. And, that you are doing well at the 2nd home.

I'm so very grateful but sad for those south of us who have been through hell today. It's rained steadily my other house but no torrential rain to cause flooding. Power is still in at that house, but there 175,000 so far in our county without. It's been gusty where I'm at but not a drop of rain. We actually need some rain, but I won't complain.

LivingIVLife, I hope they get power back quickly to you. I was patient the first three days after Irma, but I was getting mad because everyone else had their power restored, and we were last in the area. It was also extremely hot, and I needed air.

Tanya, we dodged a bullet, didn't we? Whew! I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I missed you Monday. Hopefully I'll see you at the next meetup.

Thank you to those who were thinking of Florida during this monster storm. Hopefully he'll just be a rainmaker for South Carolina and Georgia.

I was checking in to see about KBL and Tanya also and it's good to hear you both are okay. Also, Tanya, very impressive how you can remember what everyone has said. Prayers for you both and the people in Florida right now and also those in Canada still recovering.

KBL- glad to hear you are safe and your other house escaped the wrath of Ian. These weather systems cause damage and livelihoods for years to come.

We are on day 6 without power. The villages between us have power but somehow the road we are on between them do not. URRR While the Florida area is warm without air conditioning we up here are expecting temperatures to go down to an overnight temperature of 2 on the weekend.

I am thinking of you all.

Living, I am so glad you were safe but it is tough to hear you are on day 6 without power. I hope you have some nice warm blankets and hope the power is restored soon. Given the damage done to many places, I imagine it is a big process to restore everything. In your pocket. Are you able to at least get out and get shelf stable meals without having to cook or do have a generator?

LivingIVLife, oh, gosh, almost worse to be freezing with no electricity. I'm so sorry. When everyone else was having their power restored, it felt like we were forgotten. I hope it comes back soon for you

I noticed on my post I wrote terrestrial instead of torrential. I fixed it. Oy!

And thank you to everyone for the well wishes.

    Good morning

LivingIV thats awful to be cold like that without electricity. I hope that it gets fixed soon.

thanks for all of the concern ladies. We are no worse for the wear. I know that there are a lot of folks who lost power and had damage. I hope all have their electricity on soon.

I am making a plain old pasta dish with some canned chicken I found in the pantry that I forgot about. I also found older chicken pasta dry seasoning that was clumped together, ran that through the spice grinder and will mix with mayo to give a quasi pasta sauce, will save the rest of the chicken for myself and the cats. Will have to add chicken as something in addition to what I make, likely will be canned to save money. Other than that, not sure what I want to eat later.

Emac I had to write everyone’s name down with a note. I cannot remember much these days.

I hope everyone that has been hit with these major weather events finds comfort soon. It’s cooler in FL today but nothing like what livingiv is describing.

I hope living has some fleece lined pants and shirts that will help warm her as the house is so cold. I wonder, if she does not have other heat, have a can of crisco oil that she could put a candle in as both a light and heat source. They last a long time.

The pasta and chicken were good, used a bit of mayo to add some creaminess. I used too much of the chicken seasoning. It still had a pleasing taste but just need to add less the next time.

Someone is burning a fireplace tonight so that means its officially CHILLI SEASON. Ill make a batch tomorrow - makes dealing with dinner so much easier during the week, mostly because OH loves chilli and its fast to reheat in the microwave. I may make cornbread too this weekend, we'll see.

Did anyone watch The White Lotus on HBO? I downloaded it after seeing all the Emmy wins and I just... dont get it. Although its nice to see Hawaii. I think it was on last year, though.

Glad to see the FL ladies are checking in and ok. I found a stream of The Weather Channel last night and watched Jim Cantore almost get taken out by a tree branch at one point. Insane weather! And the Sanibel Causeway is frightening to see - that is going to be one hell of a civil engineering fix.

    take care all!

Sondra, the shows I watch outside my normal TV are House of the Dragons, about to be getting into some brutal actions during the dance of the dragons, civil war as it were, She Hulk and Andor on Disney Plus. Andor fills my Star Wars tank and She Hulk was mostly for Tatiana Masaly as she was superb in Orphan Black and also to check what Disney does to Daredevil on Disney.

Runor, it is absurd to say that physicians have one hour of training in menopause; medical knowledge changes over time and physicians are required to continue training (CME) as long as they practice; obviously training for an oncologist or gynecologist is different than for other specialists. This is a complex topic and there are approaches (such as local estrogen for vaginal dryness) that may not pose such a significant risk. As a neurologist, our understanding of HRT has swung 180 degrees; we used to think that it might prevent cognitive impairment, only to find that it is definitely a risk for stroke and dementia (per the large and famous nurses health study and other large prospective studies). It is certainly a double-edged sword and the advice to discuss it with your MO is spot-on.

Anx - so sorry to hear that. Radiation is excellent at stopping growth of localized tumors that can't reasonably be operated, so that is a pretty common recommendation and doesn't really mean much in terms of the biological behavior of the tumor cells. It often provides substantial pain relief, if that is a problem. Thinking of you and hoping for the best for you.

Hello all, it has been some time since I visited, and things with us seem to be changing as with you all.

DP (Darling partner) has had a pleurX catheter for her left pleural effusion for a month now. That gave some benefit in terms of breathing, but that (breathing) remains her most important limitation still -- she is stable on mTOR (affinitor) + fulvestrant (faslodex), so at least not worsening. The marshmallow trick and dexamethasone swish+spit have been helpful for the oral sores, FWIW. She is really catching up on reality TV which seems to be strangely soothing: the junior British bake off, a show about remodeling, etc. As with some of you, she has had some family drama - her beloved 98 year old uncle lost his wife and within a few months was hospitalized, now needing full time care (while living 500 miles away with no family or friends around). It's been a rapid introduction to dealing with the caring-for-elders part of our life. We're trying to adapt to this new-normal which keeps changing all the time, but had a lovely rosh Hashana with her father (now 93, by the way) and the cousins.

Mel - thanks for sharing your painting, it is inspiring and now I will have to go paint!

Everybody else -- my very best wishes to all of you, especially those of you suffering from the storms on top of everything else. Not sure about the pocket thing, but yes!

Well, another famous face has joined our club…Katie Couric was diagnosed with BC. I am always hopeful that someone like Katie will bring awareness to this disease and encourage folks to schedule their mammograms. It would also be so awesome to see lots of donations so this disease can be kicked to the curb.

I am sorry she got BC, but you are right Laurie, she can shine a large light on the disease and hopefully advance earlier mammograms and possible donations for future treatments.

I cannot believe what this world is coming to. I was out shopping with older DB and SIL. SIL told me my nephew who works at ToysRUs was stocking shelves when a customer went by with a display item that was not for sale, just demo. He offered to get the customer the item, would have to be assembled and the guy said no. When my nephew said the display model was not for sale again, the dude apparently punched him in the face. I hope the store camera and maybe another customer got this assault on camera and could possibly post to social media. I felt very angry and cannot believe customer service has devolved so much. I was used to verbally rude customers, never gave a thought to physical violence. Terrible situation. As far as the groceries, spent 30.00 on what did not seem like a bunch of stuff. Will be trying some meatless pork bites when I use up the beefless ground, figure those would be good with rice or something.

Had a nice basic breakfast. Baked up 1/2 cup black beans, let them cool off. Got my frypan and added the beans, 1/4 cup beefless ground, chopped frozen spinach as well. Sprinkled some shredded cheese on top and put in a garlic spread as well. Let it heat together on low then finally turned it off and put a lid on, everything was melty. Seasoned with some buttery steak seasoning and salt. Used a bit of mayo. Decided I will go back to using some mayo because it has a good zip to it. It was delicious and enjoyable. I also gave all the stupid halloween candy purchased at Costco a couple of weeks ago. Decided I am not as fond of chocolate that was contained and it was a large waste of money, older DB and SIL will hand it out on Halloween, kept the M&Ms as I like the large container they come in.

Other than laundry that has been done, I am going to finally check the mail, nice day out for a bus ride I think. Come back to surveys and other little money making things. It is definitely cooler so a hoodie needs to be put on I think. I must say, I showed a great deal of restraint. My SIL and DB were looking around at a Marks store and usually I get very tempted to buy stuff but I pumped the brakes on looking for stuff for myself. I decided if something does not need replacing, not going to replace it. If I am stretching food, soap and laundry supplies to great success, not going to buy clothing I do not need. Stick to the leggings I already have.

Earlymodern, sorry about your DP, glad that she is finding some comfort in TV, I was very much the same until I got on my current Herceptin treatment. Radiation also knocked me out as well and watching Star Wars or youtube streams of people playing video games was helpful to pass the time, took my mind off the cancer. Sorry about the father so far away, sending healing thoughts but glad you had a good rosh hashana with other family.

Mara, I worked in retail during the holiday season as a senior in HS in 1993 and the crap I had to put up with from managers and customers was enough to say never again. But, the behavior we’ve seen in recent years is just insanity, well beyond impatience and poor manners.

DH and I have several good weather days ahead, so we’re repainting the deck today. Hopefully the sense of accomplishment will inspire installation of the ductless AC in my bar, so we can permanently secure the wall panels and clear out construction debris and tools.
