It was a little weird going back to Tioga Pass and Tuolumne Meadows and reliving the trauma.....exactly 25 years ago, I was pregnant with my DD, and DH and I were on a mini vacation. We went to Carson City, NV, so he could play in a golf tournament. We came down HIghway 395 after the tournament, and crossed over the Pass because we were going to stay at the Ahwanee Hotel (now called the Majestic Yosemite Hotel). I cleared the trip w/my obstetrician, who said as long as I didn't go above 5 or 6,000 feet, I'd be okay. Silly me, I didn't consult a map b4 reservations were made. Had I done so, I'd have seen that Tioga Pass is 9,945 feet high - almost TEN thousand feet in elevation! Most of the rest of the way is about 8,000 - 9,000 feet until one starts to descend to the Valley floor.

TMALSS, I started having contractions shortly after we turned right on Tioga Pass road. And they weren't Braxton Hicks contractions either! I could feel DD moving around as the painful contractions took place (I was about 6 mos along). Baby wasn't getting enough oxygen at that elevation. We got to the ranger station at the pass, and DH explained to the ranger what was happening to me. The ranger radioed down to the medical clinic on Yosemite Valley floor, and told DH to drive me down as quickly (and safely) as possible. They were expecting me, and gave me a thorough exam. Fortunately, my cervix hadn't started dilating or the DR said he'd would have to airlift me by helicopter to a hospital in Modesto.

Scary stuff, but things finally settled down. When I told DD about "the incident" she was a little verklempt. (sp?). I cringe when I think of what could have happened if I hadn't stopped having contractions. When we went over the pass this time, both DD and I noticed how thin the air was. We both had to keep taking deep breaths.

Yikes! Frightening memory for a beautifuL place. Breathing is so much more noticeable at altitude...

What are some of the other places you’d like to see?

Beware of poopy blowouts. This happens to me from time to time when I don't wear my Depends.

Don't think this little toddler is quite ready for training pants yet.

Lita the world could use a lot more ppl with your level of honesty. You've helped so many with your warnings.

Those pictures, stunning is not word enough. And the memory!! Are you kidding me, no, you never forget that. You and your DD are lucky lucky. My son's friend, in his early 30's literally almost was one with the earth in Switzerland, he was with a group and no one realized that his heaving and all was because of the air. He was airlifted to a Hospital. Yep, your gorgeous daughter is a miracle.

Sorry for the cross post, but this is important...

I just updated my "Death Binder" again.

I had to change a couple of things in my Obituary and also include some family members that I somehow FORGOT to put in the first time. Aahhh, brain mets! Updated the financial stuff, too, b'cuz I've closed out some accts and don't want my DH to have a confusing mess to deal with.

I have no suggestions as to how often one should update/review one's binder/folder. [The important thing is to just get it done.] Update when and if you see fit as things change. I haven't gone over my "stuff" for over EIGHT months, and I've been lucky that things haven't really escalated health-wise.

I think I'm going to put myself on a three-month schedule, and consider reviews when my most recent scans come in (my MO orders a PET scan every three months).

Have a great 4th of July week.

This banner was at the dr's office today when I went in for my appt. Good to know...but my dr is in Fremont, so I'd probably have to drive the extra miles to San Lndo. if I want to do any trials in the near future. Dr. Ling said there's not anything on the horizon that I can qualify for yet. And some of them are still Ph 1 or 2, and she doesn't want me in the EARLY ones.

    image

Ling is not surprised by my ankle/leg swelling. To be expected w/Gemzar. Just gotta keep wearing the Grandma support hose and try to elevate my legs/feet as much as I can. Dyspepsia/GERD not surprising either. If the stuff I have stops working, she can Rx me something stronger.

Next PET is scheduled 3 wks from now to check out my right hip and pelvic bones again, which are getting quite achy :>(.

My new little raccoon comfort friend, "Charles 'Bandit' Cooper."

My DD got him at the Yosemite gift shop. He reminds her of the character 'Rocket,' from The Guardian of the Galaxy, Marvel Comics.

Dessert for DD tonight, a homemade cookies and cream cheesecake, modified from the Cheesecake Factory's recipe. No sour cream bcuz DD doesn't like it, and I skipped adding extra flour, too bcuz that would make it too heavy.

We're going to a BBQ and I'm bringing a regular homemade cheesecake and a quinoa-couscous salad. DD is staying home with the dog and to watch the house. Fireworks are legal here (STUPID with all the raging out of contol wild fires near here). So we feel safer having someone at the house.

Lita not everyone is as thoughtful and careful with what's needed to be taken care of. You are amazing. Wish you the bestest results on the PET.

Who would not love this comfy creature, good for you. That cake...unbelievable that you have to have someone stay to watch the house from fires, learning new things every day.

Lita- Hope everyone enjoyed the day and that delicious cheesecake! I think cooking is my most effective therapy. I made apple cake Tuesday (on what was my Mom’s birthday). It was her favorite recipe and I loved seeing her handwriting on the card.

Hope your week is going hreat
