Lita- thet both look scrumptious! I always swirl my potatoes on top of my Shepards pie. I hadn't thought of piping it!

Lita, my husband made your bread recipe. You are right, it turns out perfect. I would attach a photo, but we ate it.

Lita your pictures make me sooo hungry!!! You really go above and beyond. I just plop the potatoes on my shepherds pie. I think this weekend I will try your bread recipe.
how are you feeling that morning?

Lita, you made beautiful dishes, and I know they were as delicious as they looked!
I've made a few batches of blueberry muffins in the last week or so. Our neighbor grows them and he always invites my husband to come harvest with him. Yay neighbors! Of course we keep some berries to just eat fresh. I've also made a few pound cakes this summer. It tired me out, but at least we had good treats to show for it.

Quiche is brilliant Lita. I haven’t made it in years but I will now. Great for summer suppers. You are amazing making all these wonderful dishes. Hope you are feeling less pain.

I just wanted to make some dishes that would have leftovers. My chemo has been wiping me out for a few days after infusion, so now I don't have to worry about cooking for a couple of days.

Good planning, Lita!
I love leftovers. So simple just to reheat. One cookbook mentioned adding a new layer of flavor when reheating, such as adding shredded cheese on top of a split pea soup.
DH and DD2 and I could live on leftovers.
DD1 finds them "boring" and, coincidentally, DD1 is cooking dinner tonight.

I saw this lovely purple hydrangea, and I had to get it. It's the same color as my Tinky Winky Teletubbies. (They used to belong to my DD, now they're mine, and of course I still have the singing Bananas in Pajamas dolls, too.)
Yep...I'm still just a big pre-schooler.

Lita, I watched a lot of the Tour de France. Many spectators were in costumes and there was at least one teletubby! I hadn't thought of them in years and now twice in a week or two :-)
Elvis was among the spectators, so now we know the truth, ha ha.

Lita, how are you feeling? I read your thread often. Keeping an eye on you!! You are continually amazing me! I am truly honored to know such a trooper!! And your recipes have given me inspiration. I am making my first Sheppard’s pie on Sunday! It looks so delicious! And economical too! I have to think about that too as all of my children and grand children live with me. We are a household of ten right now. Everyday is like thanksgiving.
I just wanted you to know that I am still here and pulling for you! Praying everyday for you. Even my Mom asks me how you are doing. You’re just adorable!!!
Love to everyone

Just had the WORST explosive diarrhea ever. Ran to the toilet but didn’t get there in time.
Liquid sh@% running all down my leg into my shoes, all over the floor. I was wearing a pad at the time, but it wasn't enuf to contain it. Took a full dose of imodium and have a big incontinence pad on the La-Z-Boy. I'll sleep on a pad in bed tonight too.
Thanks to my DH and DD for helping me clean it all up.
Chemo SEs suck!!!

Oh Lita, I’m sorry, that sucks! I remember one time during chemo, I was in the kitchen talking to DH on the phone when I got the launch alert, I too ran but didn’t make it. DH then asks why I’m crying, I tell him “I fucking shit myself!” So, I quickly but politely ended the call and began cleaning, shower, laundry, ugh.
On another subject, your bread looked amazing and you are amazing. Enjoy the rest of your weekend 😀

Lita, I'm sorry that happened to you. Our bodies already turned on us once, so they really can stop now. Right now. For years I've eaten blackberries for D and it works. It has not been for chemo side effect D so I don't know if it would help. If you like them, it wouldn't hurt to try. If you don't have fresh blackberries, get some "all fruit" (no sugar or artificial sweeteners) in a jar and have a spoonful 3 or 4 times a day.

OMG, Lita I can relate! I had a similar episode last week as I just started Verzenio 3 weeks ago. I think what triggered mine was raw spinach on a frickin' sandwich! I'm thankful I have a shower wand/sprayer....I immediately thought of your shittin’ pants post and I just had to laugh

Sadly, I wasn't wearing my shittin' pants at the time...but I sure am now.
No episodes today...yet, that is .

Almost finished with embroidered pillow case #1. Two more butterflies to go. Can only work on it for minutes at a time...my eyes are so bad now. They get so blurry. It's very relaxing and takes my mind off my misery...running back and forth to the toilet, sigh.

Lita, your pillowcase is so lovely.
My grandmother embroidered our pillowcases. I loved sleeping on them.
Wishing you more time embroidering and less time running to the bathroom.

Truly beautiful ,but it makes me think of a funny passage in that REALLY old memoir, "The Egg and I" that was the genesis of Ma and Pa Kettle movies. (Lita, you will remember them! ). In one scene, Betty - author of the book - has to sleep in Ma Kettle's pristine living room, the only room that is safe from Ma Kettle's filthy, shiftless, and nefarious family members, including her husband, Pa Kettle. Betty is DUMBSTRUCK at the delicacy of the hand-embroidered pillowcases provided by Ma Kettle - her neighbor - and awakens the next morning with the imprint of the knotted rosettes on her cheek! Still makes me chuckle...

My bone broth for the month.
It's really easy to make, and I recommend it to anyone on bisphosphonates like xgeva and Zometa. You can also use the bones more than once. Freeze them until you're ready to use them again.
Just throw the bones in the crock pot with water to completely cover, add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to help leech minerals out of the bones, a quartered onion and a carrot and celery stalk, cut in large chunks. Put the crock pot on low and let it do its thing for at least 24 hrs. You can go up to 72 hrs if you want. I usually go 36. Check periodically and add more water as necessary.
Let it cool, then strain it into jars, being sure to leave enuf head space (for expansion), label and freeze. I'm putting the plastic one in the fridge as I ran out of good sized jars. If you refrigerate, be sure to use within 3 to 5 days.
Use it like you would use any stock or broth. Our Bulldog loves it too.

Lita, your embroidery is beautiful. More embroidery time and less bathroom trips! I'm trying to steel myself to toss all my craft supplies. As bad as the neuropathy is in my right hand, I now have bad joint pain in both hands and a trigger thumb. No more painting, sequining Christmas ornaments, crocheting, and so on. I am going to try to crochet a cancer cap for myself before I toss all that. If I can hold the hook.

Lita: What are you up to now! My grandmother embroidered our pillow cases. I can't look at them without smiling.

Lita, you continue to amaze me! Your embroidery is gorgeous! You continue to amaze and inspire me to do more with my days! What kinds of bones do you use for the bone broth? I would like to make some.
I found a recipe in BH&G magazine for a soup called Spinach and rice soup. It is chock full of protein and spinach and absolutely delicious!
Dh is having his fourth surgery in as many months, so I will make a couple of soups this week so that I won't have to cook much as I will be responsible for caring for him and all of our animals! I'm hoping that I can get the mowing done this week too! Who knows, maybe I will bake some bread too!
Hugs and prayers,
Claudia
