hello dear ones, thank you for your support...my friskiness comes and goes...I'm getting physically and psychologically ready for the upcoming PET....hopefully it will indicate no progression!

Nicole....you've been quiet and that's unusual....I know people are very busy around the holidays and all, but please post a little something to let us know- like snooky has kindly done—that you're okay...

Goldie...the price of medications in this country is scandalous...the rest of the western world can't believe what we put up with...

    Big love to all

Wondering if anyone has added the use of a sauna to your supplements and meds? I've done some reading on this as a complementary thing to do when you have cancer.

I signed up for a YMCA membership so I could use the sauna - I haven't gone yet. I like the idea of heating the little suckers out of existence. I read it is used in Germany as part of conventional treatment, I think.

A different thing I've been thinking about - I had to see my cardiologist this month because my blood pressure medication was not controlling my pressure anymore. He prescribed Telmisartan and I read on Goodrx.com that Telmisartan also works to lower LDL cholesterol and blood sugar. Both of those are normal for me, although my cardiologist says my LDL is "high normal". Anyway, I am wondering about how exactly this medication works to do this. It is an angiotensin receptor blocker, which is how it lowers blood pressure but I don't understand how it does the other two things. But I wonder if it will block the same pathways and have the same anti-cancer effect as the metformin and statins do. I'm really thinking out loud here, I don't expect any of you guys know the answer...but maybe I am halfway to the McLelland protocol here. Maybe I should add fenben.

    Hi BevJen,

I do use the sauna at our community center. I try to go during my off week of ibrance which is my detox week. I have also read that cancer does not like heat.

Olma I do not think the drugs are interchangeable. The anti-cancer effect of metformin is different than the blood glucose effect,

    Simone,

Is there a particular reason that you use the sauna on your off week from Ibrance? Or is it just like you feel better doing it that week?

    Thanks.

for those of you that can't get into a sauna, I recommend a few hours of Mozart...immediate reconnection to the best that humanity has ever offered......food for the soul....sanity for the mind....immediate connection with our higher self....complimentary cancer therapy perhaps? I feel suspended and supported in mid-air....all is well with the world....like I used to feel....

Santa, would you happen to know how much quercetain to take as a substitute for the statin in the COC protocol? I’m currently taking a tablespoon @ day...the statin had lowered all my cholesterol levels dangerously low....I happen to believe that good cholesterol is very important for our overall health....

    Frisky,

My naturopathic doctor said to substitute red rice yeast for the statin in the COC protocol-- she said it's a natural statin. She did not mention quercetin as a sub for the statin, altho I see that it's in the McLelland protocol to hit the same pathway. So I assume either would work for that pathway?

  • Frisky
    Frisky Member Posts: 1,686

thanks BevJen, but I have already bought half a pound of the quercetin...

  • santabarbarian
    santabarbarian Member Posts: 2,311

I do not know the official Jane M-recommended dose of Quercetin, but Dr Block also recommended I take it, and the dose he recommended was 2000 mg/day.

Everyone, people keep making the same mistake re substitutions I think. The SIDEBAR effects of these repurposed drugs are the relevant effects, not their intended effects. So bev Jen, red rice yeast MAY substitute for a statin's chloesterol lowering effect but MAY NOT have the COC cancer-blocking side bar effect of a statin.

Not all statins are equally good for COC protocol, even-- only a few are identified as the best. So, my impression is that not all supplements that behave like statins in the body would have the anti-cancer activity needed for the protocol. SPECIFIC statins work.

Quercetin is specifically named as something that also blocks the same pathway(s) blocked by statins. I would not trust red rice yeast unless you can find studies which document an anti cancer effect.

thank you Santa...I will pull out my miniature grams scale and figure out the teaspoons!

Okay...a tablespoon is slightly above 2grams, which I don’t think it matters...I mix mine in this delicious red herbal tea fromTJ's.
It needs to soak and than a good vigorous shake and my cancer blocking potion is ready to be enjoyed, at times I add a teaspoon of resveratrol for good measure...

    BevJen,

The sauna will help you detox, getting the dead cancer cells out of your system. I think I read it in " The metabolic approach to cancer by Nasha Winters". She recommended to take Niacin, dry brush for 20 mins, exercise for 20 mins then go into the sauna for 20. It's another good cancer book. I don't agree with her recommendation to follow the keto diet but the book is a easy read had some good information.

My MO instructed me to limit my fluid intake to 2-3 quarts of fluid a day when taking ibrance. It also states that in the documentation. Anymore impacts the effectiveness of the drug. I lose a lot of water in the sauna and end up getting dehydrated without more fluid than 2-3 quarts. That is the only reason I wait.

PS the sauna that helps is not the regular dry heat sauna but the infrared saunas (with multiple frequencies). They are not as "hot" feeling. the light is what heats the tissue internally due to the frequency. The air in the sauna is not "hot," but you do sweat.

Frisky thanks for asking about me...that was really nice. Our son and his fiancee, along with my nephew and his girlfriend and my mom all came in last Wednesday for the holiday. They just left last night...I felt very depressed after. I think I kind of forgot I have Stage 4 Cancer while they were here and tomorrow I start Xeloda...and I just felt very depressed. Maybe it is my mind trying to protect itself after the short lived let-down of Ibrance...i don't know...also like 3 or 4 people on the Stage 4 FB page passed away in the past week..it just feels like everyone gets like 1 -3 years..and then that's it...so I guess it all hit me at once. You asking for me made me smile so I definitely appreciate it.

On the note of the Sauna...Yes, it needs to be an infrared sauna..I was using it in NY when I was on Ibrance..I went 3 times a week for 30 min sessions. So I know with Ibrance it should be fine. From what I learned it works 2 ways to (supposably) help treat cancer. 1. The infrared rays penetrate deep and 2. Sweating is a good detoxifier.

Thanks for your input, SantaB. I guess I'll just hope for lower blood pressure with this med, then. And enjoy the sauna I have access to,for all its other benefits.

On second thought, Planet Fitness has those “red light therapy” machines, wonder if they do any good. Used to use them but I have since downgraded my membership

Can also buy an infrared sauna at Lowe’s for not that much, but not sure it’s practical in my apartment!

And there’s this, at Walmart....(I’m half joking here, but maybe?) :

Nicole, cancer is a weird beast....unpredictable, so, like they say in show business, it's not over till the fat lady sings....may your opera last a whole life time with no soprano coming out for the final aria. From now on, may you experience only a series of duets, trios and quartets...

Glad your family took you mind away from all of this...I enjoyed my friends and family as well, but Mozart this morning took me back to my old self...check out the quartet in the final act of the Marriage of Figaro...sublime...

Don't worry about XELODA...it's an easy Tx and many ladies have been on it for YEARS

    Olma61,

Not sure about that blanket thing -- but I did get a kick out of it! Also linked at the bottom of that ad is an infrared sauna for a very reasonable price and also a small size -- but I have to admit, I couldn't quite figure out how the thing works -- I guess your head sticks out? It's like half price right now and they only have 5 left???!!!??? Must be a hot seller (no pun intended) for the holidays.

oh yeah, I saw that small one bevjen. I think you sit in it, but the chest area would be outside of the sauna. I guess it’s for people who want to improve the lower body only

My wife uses a Chi Machine deep IR dome daily. She really likes it. When I broke a couple of bones in my foot, it really helped me get back up on my feet, restoring mobility, reducing swelling.

Frisky, I started listening to classic music in the last few weeks . It helps to calm me ... Try " flower duet " by lakme ..

And yes Mozart is great for it ...

Dear Goldie, thank you, Sandra feels I'd say... very well. She is so ,,strong" and smiling a lot these days, I can hardly keep up:) I pray it stays that way... I even decided to leave for Barcelona and around, Spain, for 6 days with my climbing mates, to climb some boulders (I rock-climb for many years and train hard 2-3 times a week - this has helped me so much to keep my thoughts a bit off the disease and to stabilize my moods)...

Frisky, Anotherone... listening is amazing but when you play it yourself... I play once/twice a week on my ocarina, mostly classics, Bach, Pachelbel, Mozart... when I was young I was in musical school and played a lot in one room, and my mother used to say her flowers were much healthier than when I stopped playing...

We started Metformin 250 mg/d yesterday...

Yes Olma...I think music is food for the body and soul...it immediately connects us with the best humanity has being able to achieve...it elevates and expands our own capabilities....

I use a certain type of music when I'm cooking an elaborate meal and it leads me immediately in a pleasant mood as I concentrate creatively on my cooking...

Lakme...like anotherone mentioned I find lovely to listen when I take a bath...

Saulius have great fun and be extremely careful! We all need you
