JFL,
I'm sure he would welcome the chance to do a TACE procedure. I think I told you that I had researched him and he is doing some kind of a study on its use.
I had adriamycin when first diagnosed, and when I was talking to him about the chemoembolization I asked him about having had the adriamycin previously and worries about the lifetime limit, etc. He dismissed those fears immediately and told me that they use such a small dose of Adria that there wouldn't be a problem. I have not, however, had Doxil, so I don't know if that would impact things.
Keep us informed as to what's going on. I am trying to get on the doc's dance card right now because apparently Ibrance has shrunken my other liver mets (I only ablated the largest) and I've decided I don't want to mess around so if he can go in and do some more cleanup, by whatever method, I'm all in. He's not an easy guy to see, so I think the coordinator is getting sick of me leaving messages. Let me know, though, if you need contact info.

My wife recently got her results from a blood test. She's been on FenBen for over 6 weeks now.
Platelete Count: 24x10(9) accepted low is: 140x10(9)
Hemoglobin: 7.1 accepted low is: 12.0
Hematocrit: 22.5 accepted low is: 34.5
None of this is good. Dr says cancer is destroying the bone marrow.
Poor thing just sleeps all day. She does eat some and isn't showing sign of wasting disease. Might just go to sleep and not wake up. Which if she must die would be the best way rather than withering in pain. I am in a deep dark place right now.

Mike, I very sorry that you have gotten such bad news. Is their any treatment they can recommend? Would you consider trying something that might stimulate her immune system, like maitake D extract or AHCC? Both stimulate the immune system and can directly and indirectly fight cancer. They also help alleviate side effects. How about melatonin?

hugs , Mike. All other words fail me.

Thanks Husband11
I'm up and on the computer; no sleep for me tonight again. The firemen just left, this is the second time tonight I called them. I sleep on the sofa in the living room and she got up and went to look for something. She has symptoms like dementia, it's from the brain surgery and WBRT. Anyway she fell and no way can I, on my own, lift her. Two hours later she went to the bathroom and fell once again. EMT guys came again, great people by the way. Patient and kind. She doesn't know why she does these things. I just ordered AHCC from Amazon, sounds promising. She's on FenBen plus Vit. E. I don't see it's doing her any good stopping the cancer. She also takes Ashwagandha. I see there's a prescription drug, Corticostercid that helps with Platelete.
About the only good thing in my life now is I've bought a very nice looking 1957 T-Bird. I've always wanted one. Had a 1955 but had to sell it when I got orders for Vietnam. I have my own physical limitations, 100% disability; wounded from an RPG that tore up my left leg pretty bad.

Mike so sorry to hear your wife seems to be getting worse. I hope you can get some rest maybe someone can come stay with your wife for a few minutes and you can take a drive in your new car for a few minutes and get some fresh air.
Sorry about your injury from NAM...if you don't mind me asking how old are you and your wife? My husband is currently Active Duty Marine.

Mike, I too have no words. It's just not anything that any of us want to go through. I too hope if it is her time that it is in her sleep. I pray for myself to go like that and not to suffer for months on end. Sounds as though she did not hurt herself when she fell. Does she have a walker she can use? So often I wish I could hug my friends here on this site, but a virtual will have to. And you do need to get some rest, you don't do her any good if you can't function. Thank you for being such a wonderful husband and caretaker. I know this is just as hard on you. That is one of the things I hate for myself, is how much hurt, pain and sadness I will cause my family and those that care about me.

Mike I send empathy too. I am so sorry for your wife's situation, and your pain. ((((hugs))))

Oh dear Mike, we are with you and your wife in our thoughts and hearts. I just hate the thought doctors are not alongside with you and refuse to help, as I am sure something still could be done... Please ask someone close to you for help, as handling everything in these situations alone is very very difficult. Saulius

NicoleRod, I'm 73. Actually I look a lot younger for my age. People scoff at me being an RVN vet. I was a Recon Scout, M60 gunner on an M113A1 track. Wounded twice during Tet 68.
Goldie0827, Yes we have a walker, she uses it all the time with mostly me pushing it around while she sits on the seat. We have a wheelchair but it's too big to get into many places.
Santabarbara, Thanks for the kind words.
BSandra, Oncology dropped her as a patient of there's. She's under Palliative Care now.
Made it through the rest of the night, I even got some sleep. The nights are the worst.
Love and kisses to all of you people and pray for a cure against this ugly relentless disease.

Mike, I am so sorry to hear about your wife. Sending you hugs. You and your wife are in my prayers.

Mike--Hugs across the miles. Agree with everyone you need to get some support yourself---with caring for your wife. You are doing a wonderful job, but as the caretaker you need to take care of yourself also and get a break from the caregiver role. Is there anyone you can have come in to relieve you for a bit--family, friend, neighbor or home health aide your insurance might cover??

Mike, that 57 T-Bird sounds fantastic. That was the real era of T-Birds. Is it in fully driveable condition? What's the drivetrain?
Here's my old 58 Karman Ghia that I drove for 30 some years. Bought it when I was a teenager, and spent 5 years restoring it. It was a rotted out mess with weeds growing through the rocker panels when I bought it for $400.

Thanks Husband11 now this is the kind of comment I need to take my mind off the ugly reality. V8, 312 cube, 295 hp, automatic, 4 barrel Holly "tea pot."
No breaks for me, everyone in the family works. My brother-in-law has been the most supportive. He's a cold case detective. My daughter has some "executive" level job and that keep her busy. She wants to be more helpful but well just can't
Nurf bars on the Ghia. I always like the look of that car, especially the convertibles. Here's a link to MY car, going to be shipped in a day or so.

Mike, so sorry for what you and your wife are experiencing, I wish I could say more to help. Wish you both peace and relief from suffering.
Gorgeous car, always loved a classic Tbird and a V8 engine. Get plenty of enjoyment out of it, you deserve it!

NicoleRod, Sorry, no Marine, I was Army. Assigned to 25th Infantry Division, Tay Ninh. When I was in the hospital in Japan I was the only Army guy in the shrapnel ward, all the rest were Marine, well except for a US Navy medic. All the wounded Marines were from Khe Sanh, a real meat grinder. I was asleep when the Marine Commandment came through awarding Purple Hearts. He gave me one thinking I was a Marine (I was a PFC then and us PFC's all look alike). I also got a Marine letter of commendation.
Wife is sleeping peacefully. That's all I ask of God is that she goes quietly in her sleep. Maybe tonight, she's a physical mess right now.
Deep respect for Marines.

Mike my husband was just reading your post laughing and just saying wow and smiling. My husband literally (still) LOVES being a Marine...I once said to him "your so lucky..you love your job" (this was when we first met) he said "Job, I don't have a job...being a Marine is my life the day it becomes a job, is the day I get out".... he still feels that way. lol You deserved that award and letter!!!!
We just prayed right now for you...and for your lovely wife. ((((hugs)))) to you both.

Mike, praying for peace and rest for your wife and you. You are in such a difficult position that no one deserves to be in. It is too much for one person to bear. This disease is just awful.
Mike and Husband, the cars are beautiful. They both look impeccable.

Well it's 2:15 am and almost a disaster with the bathroom. She's babbling almost all the time now and moaning "ugh" or "no" over and over again. She's in Hospice now. Hospice RN came by, nice guy, they all are. He explained that, as the cancer eats away at the bone marrow it doesn't produce enough red cells, without red or white for that matter, the brain doesn't get enough oxygen. Without oxygen the brains signals to the body to do things get lost. She can hardly stand now. I never thought I'd say this but I wish she'd just go to sleep and pass.
I'm afraid what my next entry might be.
Worst night of my life.

Oh Mike, I'm so sorry. I know this is just so hard on you. Praying for a peaceful transition for your beloved wife. Stay strong for yourself. You will be able to say that she beat cancer, as she will then be cancer free and no longer suffering. Hugs.0

Mike, May your wife Rest In Peace, and thank you for the honesty about what happens at the end...no one has ever broached the subject...

I sit at the computer a room away from my wife. She's breathing shallow, hardly audible breaths. I don't want to see her suffer anymore. For some reason, perhaps God's grace, I'm at peace. A voice tells me "You can do it, you can handle this." I go calmly about my business this morning. I don't want to alert the relatives, well, because who knows how long this will last. She might be in that coma the RN talked about where the brain just shuts down. To me, my beautiful perfect wife left me some months back.

Mike, may I ask what your wife's name is, so I can pray for her by name. Happy that you are finding peace within yourself. Is there family that would like to come and just sit with her, if this is going to be her last hours/days? Children, siblings?

Here's the info though the Moderators might delete this as they don't like real names being used.
Housewife and mother, Darlis born Sept 28th 1947, Portland Oregon. We live in Vancouver, WA
Well she just came too. Though just barely and slumped back into the "ugh" "no," routine.
