This is depressing on so many levels.
My husband keeps saying it is because Biden chose Kamala as his running mate, and the country is too racist and misogynistic to elect a black woman. I think he is likely right. WTF is wrong with people? Especially republican women? I know my family was raised in a religion that borders on a cult where women are subservient to men, and that explains their support for the Republican party, but I got out. Why can't other people learn to think for themselves?
I think the idea of having Kamala as president polarizes people - I think it would be amazing, others are afraid, she is smarter than most of us and doesn't take any shit. They can't handle the idea. How far down the drain do we need to go for people to wake up?

Oh, and my chemo meds came in handy too.... thank you Ativan! I had to take that in the middle of the night to fall back asleep, will likely take more.

Heard in an interview with a female Trump voter on CNN: "I'm a woman but I don't like the idea of two women in power (Harris and Pelosi)"! Whaaaa?? I also remember hearing a similar thing from a woman in Florida about Clinton in 2016: "I'm not comfortable with a woman president". I just can't fathom women like these.

I can't fathom women who can't fathom women in power.
One just needs to watch the response to Coronavirus in New Zealand. Calm, rational.. and yes a woman in charge.

Just saw that nearly 7% of ballots that were mailed on time did not get delivered. Those mailed ballots were overwhelmingly Democratic votes. Those have to be counted.

Yes, we are fighting generations of and centuries old societal conditioning that women cannot/should not be in power or effectively run a country. So much in society reinforces this. Young women are trained to appear less smart than their male counterpart to “catch" a man, and massive emphasis is on women to look good for the male gaze. It's like a big, huge cult of its own. It was when I read several first hand accounts of women who left the FDLS polygamist cult run by Warren Jeffs. Something in my brain started to see how many mainstream religions were just diluted forms of a cult, how they insist women be submissive and less than. Women in cults are pressured to look and dress a certain way but also in society in general and in certain churches there always seems to be a more accepted demure dress code for women. Get raped? Well, musta been what you was wearin . Join a church dressed like a whore? They’ll make it their mission to mold you in to a more socially acceptable looking gal. And men remain the supreme power holders in organized religion

They're calling Wisconsin for Biden. Trump is demanding a recount. Trump is filing a lawsuit to stop Michigan from counting ballots. The stopping counting shit is what bothers me. Trump will try everything t fuck things up as much as possible. I know the Democrats and Biden's team of lawyers have anticipated this and are ready to do battle, Still, it's a damn shame it has to get ugly.

Heard a short while ago that Biden now has Wisconsin ( calling him the apparent winner ) in the Democratic column. That makes me feel better. It will be contested by Trump -- no surprise there because it is so close. I think Trump has had it in mind to demand what recounts he could demand and maybe he hopes by stringing things out he himself can find a way to cheat and get rid of votes.
Trump can't formally ask for the recount until 3 days after the call - so he will be stalling and it was said on tv that we would likely be up to Thanksgiving before that is settled. I also heard ( didn't catch their name or title ) that little would likely change in the vote tallies either. So, while allowable because of the 1 % rule, it sounds like mainly a time waster.
I'm still downhearted about anyone who felt they had to cling to Trump. Did someone say economy.? For many in the middle class and poor the economy is just another cross to bear and you just keep hoping you can. The economy is only good if you can afford to be in the stock market group. If you have to wait till payday to go to the grocery store, you don't even think about the stock market -- it doesn't exist.
I think people could have been putt off a bit about Kamala Harris and I too am so tired that fabulous women can't be fabulous. Smart women just are not allowable 99% of the time. I would imagine this is part of the reason ( other than she lived it for 8 yrs. and knows the pitfalls ) why Michelle Obama would not even consider running for Pres. or likely anything much in government at all. She would I think , shine no matter what it was, but she I think would now do very little if she couldn't put her whole heart and soul in it. She was a true stand-out.

I think this is worth thinking about as we wait for further developments which I hope and pray do show that we get the all important 270 votes.

Maybe if Joe makes it ( promising ) DeJoy can have a return engagement in the House and Senate and some STRONG measures laid on him for his wrecking job on the post office. any other un-qualifieds out hanging out anywhere. They maybe need a bit of attention too.

Maybe after Joe takes over DeJoy can have a return engagement in the House or Senate -- it could do wonders for the moral of a lot of people I know.

I'm wondering if instead of a polling error, it's a missing ballots error. If 7% of vote by mail ballots were not delivered, that's the difference in the polling. I believe it would also swing th he Senate. I hope there are judges with integrity.

trishyla,
I agree with your post! I'm in San Jose. My younger daughter thinks secession would bea great idea. I have mixed feelings and really hope it doesn't come to that. Not having CA as part of the US economy would be a huge blow to the US.

You have all done such a wonderful job stating the things I am thinking and feeling. Thank you to those who mentioned having left over ativan. I completely forgot that I have some left over from both pre-surgery and MRI. I may actually get some sleep tonight and stop crying once I take it. Anything else I would say has already been said.

Fingers crossed, but incumbent D Sen. Gary Peters (MI) just pulled ahead of his challenger. So despite losing Doug Jones in AL, by gaining John Hickenlooper in CO and Mark Kelly in AZ, we may have a net gain of 1. Not enough, but if Collins grows a spine and Murkowski finds hers again, if Biden pulls this out Harris might be a very busy tie-breaker.
I am furious, though, that the DNC neglected Spanish-language radio in Miami-Dade and let the GOP bullshit about "socialism" push the Cuban and S. American (Venuzuelan & Colombian) immigrants' visceral buttons. Shameful that the Dems didn't clap back. (Ditto with the Oberweis-Underwood IL House race, which is headed for a recount: Oberweis ran an inflammatory ad that edited Underwood's remarks contrasting looting & rioting with "beautiful protests"--cutting out the rest of her statement expressly condemning looting & rioting).
Oh, and Biden's popular vote lead just passed 3 million. Not that it counts (except in orange a-hole's wounded ego). He is leading 51-47.5% (outperforming Hillary).
The reason too many women refuse to support women candidates is that they feel threatened. Whenever they hear "a woman can do anything," they perceive that as a criticism of their own choice to be subservient to the men in their lives--be they husbands or clergy.

MI was just called for Biden!

ChiSandy...WOOOHOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I swear I thought I saw that AZ had been called for him as well.

Fox called Arizona for Biden last night and got told off by the orange people! Only missing Nevada to get to 270 I think

I knew that happened last night but I swear I just saw the AP called it for him just now, but can't find where I saw it so I obviously am hallucinating. My joy at another state going to him is getting ahead of reality.

Wow...I was up till four and then nothing more was happening so just crashed for over eight hours---really needed that and didn't even dream of vote counting or who is on first or anything. Then I woke to Wisconsin on our side and now Michigan....holy cow.......down---up--down--up ......
When Trump came onstage last night and began to vomit out that nonsense about this being a fraud on the Amercian people or along those lines.....you think you've seen how low Trump can go---then he goes lower.
I ate a whole bag of mini Kit Kats!

At least you don't live in North Dakota where we just elected a DEAD Republican! I am not making that up!!!!

Omgosh, Ruth, that is mind boggling!
Blue, I think there's truth to people not being able to see themselves vote for a female VP, but on the other hand, how many votes from people of color did she get? How much more effective was Obama’s campaigning because he didn’t have to excuse away two white male candidates? So I think there's a little give and take there. And we didn't have Republicans beating us up with having two white male candidates and saying, oh, you say you're for equal rights for all but your ticket doesn't reflect that. Even some Dems would have an issue with it.
IllinoisLady, I so often love reading your commentary. You have a gift for putting together nicely worded paragraphs that express sentiments the same or similar to mine. I love the meme about all the devious ways the Republicans have tried to screw with the voting--I mean, it's staggering the many different ways they've interfered, but are still coming up short.

Dead Rebuplican? Seriously? (They are all dead inside...decaying waste of human corpses)
Well with Covid there may be more.... McConnell and Graham still have not yet caught it. Although I am 100% sure McConnell is not human so he is not likely to catch it...
Don't QAnon believers have some ideas about lizards running the government.... that would explain McConnell. Probably Graham too...
As a Dr. Who fan, every time I look at McConnell I think of episodes where aliens are poorly disguised as humans.... I also have to quickly turn away and suppress a gag reflex. He really creeps me out.0 -
Why are the numbers not changing for Nevada and Arizona? They have stayed at the same % votes counted all day.

Ohio went red. It saddens me. All the big cities were blue, Columbus, Cleveland/Akron, Cincinnati, Toledo. The rest was pretty much red.
In my county, approximately 33,000 people voted. 15,000 for Trump, 8,000 for Biden. I believe Republican voters here went straight for a straight Republican ticket, there were a number of people running for office like Commissioner, Clerk of Courts, State Rep, ect., and every single one had a Republican voted in.

I think there's some sentiment in WA to become part of Canada. I would be in.
