What do we live for, if it is not
to make life less difficult for each other?

That's the truth, Ruth. It is shameful that the other guy and co-horts were able to turn so many off vaccinations for covid. Had they said far less the evidence was overwhelming ( over a half a million of our own U.S. citizens gone ) that a person should get the shot as soon as possible. I'm hearing ( have e to look up more info on it ) that there is some question now that the CDC is not giving out good info in that people are allowed to go w/o masks. I tend to believe that the parameters are not maybe being understood. Or then again, just some people who really do want to muddy the waters. Hope it is cleared up easily.

This tweet reminds me of something I observed a while ago.
Imagine the medieval/renaissance Dante model of Heaven and Hell vying for souls as prizes or currency. Now picture a culture where women are intentionally objectified and primarily valued for their sexual desirability. They are made vulnerable to rape, coercion, and harassment, but not allowed to terminate unwanted pregnancies. Access to female-centered birth control (the pill, iud, etc.) is very restricted, and male-centered birth control (condoms) have a bad reputation because it "doesn't feel as good" for the man. (And of course, the man's experience in the moment is given higher priority than the woman's experience for the next 9-10 months or the next 18 years.) The most vulnerable women get caught in a vicious cycle of poverty, forced to have babies they can't afford, often when they are young adults or teens. Because they have to care for their new family, they can't get an education or work for their own advancement, much less try to give their children better opportunities. Due to their desperate situation, they and their children are more likely to turn to crime for financial survival - joining gangs for power and security, or turning to prostitution. Drugs and alcohol are rife, and addiction often forces people into crime if normal daily stresses haven't already done so. The girls who choose to do tricks are at high risk of getting pregnant and repeating the cycle. Or they may be murdered by customers who see their lives as "disposable". Those who join gangs live violent lives that often end early. If rival gang members don't kill each other, police are given free rein to kill any young man seen as "threatening". These same police are unlikely to investigate murders of gang-bangers and hookers, as they also see these lives as disposable.
This creates a system of many, many new souls being born and then steeped in as much sin as possible. Then once a soul is tainted and corrupt, it is ended early before it can be redeemed. An industrial production line of souls bound for Hell.
So based on the policies that the Moral Majority and conservatives would love to see enacted - anti-women/pro rape-culture, no birth control, no abortion, no social services to help struggling families, no drug/alcohol rehabilitation, no education support, no jobs support, no food support, Blue Lives Matter - which side do these policies benefit? Who - God or Satan - do these politicians really work for?
(For the record, I'm not religious in the least; but it is amusing to play "Good Omens".)

Fabulous post, Mirianda! The way I see it, the Moral Majority and conservatives work for the advancement and preservation of the privileged, entitled white male who appears to be the one true God for them.

Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light. -Brené Brown

We can stop waiting for life to become perfect and start working
with what we've got to make it as satisfying as we can. We can accept, bless, give thanks, and get going. Today, we can begin to call forth the riches from our everyday life. Procrastination has robbed us of too many precious opportunities. Call a friend for lunch, begin to read or even write that novel, organize your papers. Try a new recipe for dinner, smile at everyone you meet, sit and dream before a blazing fire, pick up your needlepoint again, act as if you're grateful to be alive, scatter joy. Think of one thing that would give you a genuine moment of pleasure today and do it.

Seems more issues on the horizon as Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy are going to put the kibosh on the 1/6 Commission. Guess I am not surprised. For all the obvious reasons the Orange one is saying no and so the top guys in GOP have to fall into lock-step with him. Not only is it something orange guy fears, but those in GOP who knew and stood by and or participated would like to see it go away as well. They tried at that and already failed since they could not convince anyone that 1/6 was just some tourist activities -- nothing alarming at all.
I'm truly wondering when we are going to go full steam ahead because the Reps. are very much not interested in getting to the bottom of anything. They are interested in figuring out how to regain and remain in power. They don't blink an eye at getting on with their agendas no matter what. So, we need to rid ourselves of the filibuster and move on with what the American/U.S. citizens want. Seems to me that means making believers of the Reps. that what is good for the goose so to speak. I hate to think of it that way but the Democrats are a bit squeamish about single-handedly doing what is wanted because for so long it was done on a bi-partisan basis mainly. We are well past those times and I'm not at all convinced that they can come back until we are able to convince Reps. that we can embrace some of THEIR brand of fairness. We have to make the most of the time we have till '22 because we want something well beyond that.

Great to let the orange one know what is coming, but maybe it is more for those who wish to save themselves by adding some extra fuel.

Good to see you Ruth. I thought everyone went on vacation.

Just what I thought and sure enough ( after many, many Dem concesssions ) turns out they really don't. Just being true to their weasel ways. Well, how many times did we hear the Reps. don't play fair. Why would they start now ??

I think exactly why we need to find suitable ways to bypass them. Of course, there are many who will say that we ( Democrats ) can't be trusted but I think by then the Orange One will be in jail. The Reps. have no leader and they certainly aren't going to get one any time soon. We need to push on without them -- which is exactly what they have done to us any time they had the chance. It is nice to try to include them but they have basically stated outright they have no intention of playing fair. It is time for us to give them and their charade up and move forward leaving them covered in the dust of their hopeful demise.
