Miriandra makes a great point! Jackie, and any other IL ladies (or guys) here--hope you voted "Yes" on the Workers' Rights Amendment if you voted early--and if you're waiting for Tues., vote "Yes" on it then. I'd been planning to go early-vote today, but there's a high wind warning (gusts up to 70mph) advising us to stay indoors through sunset.

Sandy, we will be voting Tues. and I will be marking a yes to Worker's Rights. I never worked anywhere that had a union, but I VERY much believe in the need for them.
The National Industrial Recovery Act (1933) provided for collective bargaining. The 1935 National Labor Relations Act (also known as the Wagner Act) required businesses to bargain in good faith with any union supported by the majority of their employees.
We need them now every bit as much as back in the 30's. Maybe in some ways even more since corporations' rake in much more now and have devised more ways and lots more rules to do people out of what benefits them. We also have CEO's getting exorbitant salaries as well as bonusses which means the 'lowly' worker can't get raises or benefits for years, if ever.
This is still a world that should reward everyone, not just the few at the top or owners only, or corporations.

I cannot say how the elections will swing and won't follow Tuesday night—way too nervous. Today, dh and I drove an hour up to the Youngstown area to walk through a wonderful woodland park and botanical garden there. We travel different roads coming and going to take in the scenery and over the routes I saw some Tim Ryan signs. Not tons, but some. It's big Trump territory there so it was interesting to see some Ryan signs. I didn't see any Trump signs or flags. I know he's not running but you know how some people still litter their yards with his crap. I saw a few Vance signs but not many. Since it's midterms, who knows what the signage adds up to.
Here's a couple photos ds sent from the Fetterman/Obama rally today in Pittsburgh: He said it was jam packed.

Hi to my sisters on the other side of the Border. I want the Repugnicians to be crushed. I fear they won't thanks to Gerrymandering and other blocks to voting. People threatened to move to Canada when Trump won and the Immigration website crashed but no one really moved up. Maybe if the USA becomes a genuine Gilead there will be an Exodus. We are desperate for workers and to have a bigger population. There are just about 38M of us and a huge amount of land. Okay, most is perma-frost but thanks to global warming maybe we can grow tomatoes there soon. Just kidding but there are worst places to live. You don't even have to learn a new language. Just learn to say "sorry" a lot. We seem to be famous for that. It is so ingrained in me I have been known to apologize to furniture when I bump into it. Ha ha
If the Dems sweep the midterms will the Magats get out their guns? How will anyone know the Grays from the Blues in this new Civil War?
Scared on this side of the 49th. We say "When the US farts, we get the smell"

Thanks Elderberry. I'm a warm weather person, but maybe when we can grow pineapple in the permafrost zone?
I must say I am really frightened about what may happen. Reading the newspaper just makes me want to just throw up. I'm not watching the news at all - well except to see if the Astros will win. And like Devine - I will probably not be able to follow on election night.

Fantastic memes Divine. As far as fear the only one I've had consistently and constantly is having the Loon as President which happened, but all else while concerning doesn't affect me all that much. I'm mainly fearful more for others. I'm 77 and while I have no plans to kick off for some time, my kids and their kids have to live in this world, and I'd like to think they will do so in a reasonably functioning democracy.
Elderberry, you are hilarious. I likely would love living in Canada, as I visited there often many yrs. ago and loved it then. I was married, living in Detroit, and my MIL was Canadian. She and FIL lived in Detroit, but family in Amherstburg (sp. lit up but I doubt it is wrong). We went every few weeks to visit and it was always great. I'm too old though.

'SUCKER': Watch the Brutal Lincoln Project Ad That Made Trump So Angry He's Threatening to Sue Fox News
By Jackson RichmanSep 8th, 2022, 11:18 am4890 commentsFor years, The Lincoln Project has been taunting Donald Trump with vicious targeted ads aired on networks he watches in the places he lives.
That strategy paid off on Thursday, when the former president lashed out at an ad — suitably titled "SUCKER" — which aired on Fox News in Bedminster, New Jersey, where Trump resides in the warmer months of the year.
The Lincoln Project ad, released on Thursday, went as narrated:
Dear MAGA, we have some bad news. No, not that he lost. Not that your little coup attempt failed and its planners and the attackers are going to jail. No. The really bad news is why Trump told you he lost. Why he set it up way before the 2020 election. It wasn't voter fraud but it was fraud.
Trump told you the election was stolen ripped you off, to sucker you, to take your hard-earned money and shovel it into his pockets. He spent it on himself not to take back the White House.
It was the biggest scam in political history. Every dollar you sent him paid to keep his shady business empire and lavish lifestyle going. It was a sucker game all along. And you know who the sucker is? You.In a Thursday post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump attacked Fox News for airing the ad. He promised to sue the network, though he misspelled the last name of former House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), who is on the board of Fox News parent company, Fox Corporation:
The Perverts and Lowlifes of the Lincoln Project are back on, where else, Fox News. I thought they ran away to the asylum after their last catastrophic campaign, with charges made against them that were big time sleaze, and me getting many millions more votes in 2020 than I got in 2016. The Paul Ryun run Fox only has high standards for "Trump" ads, but not for anyone else. The Perverts should not be allowed to "false advertise," and Fox News should not allow it to happen. See you all in Court!!!
To be clear, local ad buys are made directly with cable companies — not networks like Fox News.
Rick Wilson, the co-founder of the Lincoln Project, reacted gleefully to Trump's post when reached for comment by Mediaite.
"In 2020, The Lincoln Project took up a long-term free lease in Trump's brain. His threat to sue the Lincoln Project today is like Trump himself; impotent, flabby, and pathetic," Wilson said.
The Lincoln Project also confirmed to Mediaite that the ad was aired on cable news in Bedminster.

At one time this would have REALLY made my day. Now I just hope it is true and that it really does mean good things. I do pray that we have numbers way too big to ignore but these days of distrust, division and at least one side willing to commit vengeance if they don't get their way gives me way too many Maalox moments every day. I'll be glad when its over.

If we could but recognize our common humanity, that we do belong together, that our destinies are bound up in one another's, that we can be free only together, that we can be human only together, then a glorious world would come into being where all of us lived harmoniously together as members of one family, the human family. -Desmond Tutu

Not surprised no one has dropped in here. We listen to morning news and, as has been the case for a while now, the Reps. are flooding the news cycles with polls that show them neck and neck or ahead. People from our side say no. Even if we were to have way better results than it sounds, there is going to be people from the other side lashing out and making trouble. Also enormous work.
We are all tired and VERY nervous. We have been under the orange cloud way, way too long. It continues to amaze me that the Reps. party has just went into total denial of all the positive policies, whether I liked them or agreed with them, that made up their party. Law and order and being reasonable for the most part. They sound more like Reps. Gestapo. I'm hoping that they totally ruin themselves but who knows. I just have trouble believing that many people want to live in chaos and disunity.

I wish the election was over. I can barely stand to check the news. Guess we all feel that way.
AND
There is a cat 1 hurricane heading for Florida, supposed to be here Tuesday or Wednesday. Grumble.

Is that man deaf that he doesn't hear what he has said and that not only doesn't it make sense, it is also misogynistic? What an a**hole. Guess the 2 Repugnicans in the room with him are also tone deaf. There should be a law that your IQ must exceed your shoe size or your waist size to be able to run for public office.
Edited for typo.

Oh jeez, spookie, that so sucks. DH and I are trying to watch anything BUT the news, which is just full of pundits spouting their theories about the election. Ugh.

Gob-smacked. As for IQ's....the likes of the current batch of Repugnicians is a repudiation of Harvard's and Yale's supposedly high standing as universities for smart people.
spookiesmom: hang on for the coming stormy weather. Hope it gets no worse than a Cat 1. We are getting snow here in the Vancouver area. WTF!!!??? We DO NOT get snow in November, maybe late December or early January and about two inches. I am feeling stupidly outraged. Hell I could be in Ukraine in a bombed out building with no electricity or water. Get real, girl ( I say to myself) ......just as I am typing this it seems to be turning back to the usual non stop rain. I am happy now :-)
I wish the election there was over too. But it really won't be over for weeks, will it? All those absentee ballots, overseas ballots.......Lordy

Betrayal, I like the IQ suggestion!
Spookie, I feel for you with another hurricane on the horizon!
I plan to mostly watch streaming shows, or nothing at all, the next few days to avoid the onslaught of never ending political commercials.
I guess after leaving Pittsburgh yesterday, Fetterman and Obama met Biden in Philadelphia for a massive rally. And Oprah endorsed Beto O'Rourke/Arizona.
Dh made the big mistake, two days before elections, of visiting his 94 year old mother who lives with his Republican never-met-a-conspiracy-theory-I-didn't-wholeheartedly-embrace sister. The sister was listening loudly to a radio program that was blaring “God protect our elections and the ballot boxes, etc." She told dh the Democrats were going to take out the internet and communications systems and said we should get the Signal App so we could communicate. Never heard of it, but how would it work if the internet's out? But she, her husband and two adult children all have it. She referred to the Democrats as blackhairs. Never heard that description either. Nevertheless, dh ignored her repeated attempts to get under his skin and was glad to get out of there after two hours. She is a total nut case.

Divinemrsm - I live in a conservative part of Virginia. I was waiting outside the oncology center waiting for DH to pick me up a 2 years ago and two MAGAs were having a conversation about hoarding food during the pandemic. One said he had years worth of food stored in case Obama shut down the grocery stores. That Obama was going to shut down the satellite and grocery stores nation wide. He was ready, with a years worth of groceries. I got up and moved. He was dead serious and I wasn’t sure I could control my laughter. Nothing is too crazy to be be made up anymore

((((( Spookie )))))) Sure hope whatever comes stays quite small and VERY quickly fizzles out mainly.
Divine, glad your Dh was able to handle his MOM visit with some aplomb. Cardplayer just weird about the Maga's attributed actions to Pres. Obama when if memory serves, the pandemic wasn't even in sight. I can't imagine living in a world where nothing is true unless I FEEL like it is, even if I'm the only one who does. What is wrong with your life when this is the way it MUST work for you? I guess all of us fall heir to not having time for conspiracies -- we are trying to keep up and do well with every roadblock that can be erected. Just wow !!!
I'm not listening to much news myself -- mainly just early in the morning and very slight skimming the rest of the time. My moods just go up and down depending on which station is saying what -- so it is too mentally exhausting to pay too much attention right now. I am listening enough to hopefully not get any major surprises but more than that I'm going to have to bypass for a bit.
I did read something about the media perhaps having to finally get their act together better and the I think the gist was if the Democrats did do a lot better than they are and have been proclaiming lately. We will see, but I definitely think they should be held accountable for gross misrepresentations for rating.
Divine, just mind boggling. Internet gone -- I think not. Twitter may be highly disrupted though.
