DivineMrsM if you live in Mount Vernon, one of my dearest friends is wrestling with the same issue: giant flags for the orange thing clearly visible from all her street facing windows.

Here is something to ponder and I'm thinking of flags and people in general who have favored Trump and those who have done it most heavily.

Rachel Maddow: Donald Trump Appears To Be Circling The Drain Of American History

Citing new swing state polling and one bad news day after another, Rachel Maddow said on Thursday night that Donald Trump appears to be circling the drain of American history.

The MSNBC host pointed out that coronavirus cases are rising again, millions of Americans are still unemployed, and a number of investigations are hovering over Trump and his family like a series of dark clouds – all at a time when Trump is seeking reelection.

"Things are terrible right now in our country in terms of the pandemic, in terms of the economy, in terms of our political norms and the disillusion of civility and everything else," Maddow said. "It's just one bad news day after another if you are the president right now."

"If you are the incumbent president of the United States right now and you think about all the structural things that predict whether or not presidents get reelected … Things are very, very bad," she added.

    Maddow said:

Things are bad. I keep saying this. I keep ad-libbing this on TV night after night. Wow, things are bad. Things are bad on a lot of different fronts. Things are terrible right now in our country in terms of the pandemic, in terms of the economy, in terms of our political norms and the disillusion of civility and everything else. Things are very bad. But put yourself in the president's shoes. If you are the incumbent president of the United States right now and you think about all the structural things that predict whether or not presidents get reelected. You think first about the economy, you look at the smoldering wreck of the economy. You think about this unprecedented externality that was foisted upon you, which is a pandemic. How are you going to deal with it? You manage it more poorly than any other industrialized country in the world and you have the largest death toll on earth because of it. You think about that and then you think about the investigations that are trailing you, trailing your businesses, trailing your family now and you are running for reelection right now and the election is really soon. Things are very, very bad. It's just one bad news day after another if you are the president right now.

It's no surprise Trump is panicking

It's not at all surprising that Donald Trump and his reelection campaign are in panic mode.

The state of the country under Trump's leadership is dire. None of his attacks on Joe Biden are sticking. His poll numbers in many swing states are disastrous.

Worse, the country is seeing straight through his last-ditch attempt to call the election a fraud unless the results come down in his favor.

With 40 days to go until Election Day, Donald Trump appears to be circling the drain of American history as voters signal that they're ready to turn the page on this dark era.

Divine, I think in some cases it is hard to figure out. I mean I would think it possible that just as some people may be nervous about signs or flags for Joe Biden, there may be some who ( how they will actually vote is a question ) are really not happy with how Trump is doing things and don't want others to be highly/visibly aware that they still CHEER loudly at this point. Or, maybe some have started to have to confront the idea that there is a fair chance that Trump loses the whole ball game after their long four yrs. of faith in him. Maybe they need to start dialing back early. Maybe some still have hope but if some of the really bad things Trump seems to be trying to foment should he lose, they would not want to be associated with those things.

We all think of these people as dumb, because we do not cheer those in our party who do the same sometimes as Trump. Maybe they are more fair weather than we give them credit for and would only look the other way as long as it seems to work.

So, just to say, a lot of these people ( poll numbers are within margin of error in Ohio ) looking at poll numbers and knowing just the things RM talked about in her program last night may be ( not to say they would vote for Biden ) ready to face some hard truths. Trump was never good at what he is doing and this is the one time ( when sins are sure to be cataloged loud and clear ) that your enablers can't exert enough look the other way pressure. I also think there are likely some Reps. that have started to assess just how bad their plights may be for gleefully following Trump into all the rabbit holes of the last four yrs. because if you want to dance you have to pay the fiddler. This price may be quite dear. Trump has another month to be very destructive and if its bad now, boy howdy could it be all the more worse then.

Five Alarm Fire For Trump In The Heartland As Fox News Has Biden Ahead In Ohio And Pennsylvania

A five alarm fire is brewing for Donald Trump's reelection campaign in the all-important swing states of Ohio and Pennsylvania, according to a new batch of polling from Fox News.

According to data released by the news network, Joe Biden has solid leads in both of the midwestern states, as well as a double-digit lead over Trump in battleground Nevada.

The full breakdown via Ashley Moir of Fox News:

    🚨 FOX NEWS POLLS 🚨
    NV: Biden 52%, Trump 41%
    OH: Biden 50%, Trump 45%
    PA: Biden 51%, Trump 44%
    All among likely voters
    — Ashley Moir (@ashleymoirDC) September 24, 2020

According to Fox News, "In each of the three states, majorities disapprove of the job Trump is doing as president, pluralities say coronavirus is 'not at all' under control, and Biden is the preferred choice when it comes to handling the virus."

The polling also shows that Biden is "favored over Trump to nominate the next U.S. Supreme Court justice" following the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

As PoliticusUSA's Jason Easley pointed out earlier, a significant number of Trump supporters in Pennsylvania have shifted to Biden.

What's worse for Trump is that very few voters across the three states are undecided, and Biden is already polling at 50 percent. This means that even if Trump manages to win over every undecided voter, he would still struggle to beat Biden.

If Trump was winning, Ohio wouldn't even be in play

Donald Trump comfortably carried Ohio by an eight-point margin over Hillary Clinton in 2016. The fact that he hasn't locked up the state is a bad sign for his reelection campaign.

As Kyle Kondik pointed out this week, Trump felt so at ease about Ohio four years ago that he didn't even bother to visit the Buckeye State in his final swing state tour. Four years later, it's clear the president's campaign knows he has work to do in Ohio.

According to FiveThirtyEight, Biden now leads Trump in the state by a single percentage point. RealClearPolitics shows the former VP leading by about three points.

Donald Trump could very well carry Ohio, but the fact that it's a coin flip with 40 days to go is not a good sign for the president.

"This is Something our Founders Feared" Former Trump NSA H.R. McMaster Blasts President's Election Comments

On Wednesday, Donald Trump outright said that he wasn't planning on accepting the results of the election in November. Considering that the election results have yet to be tabulated, it is clear that the President doesn't like his chances.

Some Republicans were willing to come out and rebuke Trump for his comments today. They, however, didn't go as far as some would like.

H.R. McMaster, who served as Trump's National Security Adviser, was stronger in his condemnation of the President's words. The former Army Lieutenant General told Wolf Blitzer, "This is very disappointing. Really this is something that our Founders feared."

    The former Trump staffer continued:

"If you go back to the Federalist Papers and look at what James Madison and Alexander Hamilton wrote about, they wrote about the danger of factions, they meant political parties, if we identify with them more than we identify with our Republic, that that could lead to violence and so forth. We have to demand that our leaders restore confidence in our democratic principles and institutions and processes. And of course, it's the administration who has responsibility to secure the election process. There's been a lot of work done within that administration to do it after the lessons of the 2016 election. I think the comments are very unfortunate, Wolf. As you mentioned, our elections have been under attack in the past. Let's not attack them ourselves. Let's come together as Americans and execute a process we can have confidence in."

After years of promising his own health care plan, Trump settles for rebranding rather than repealing Obamacare

President Trump capped his fruitless four-year journey to abolish and replace the Affordable Care Act by signing an executive order Thursday that aims to enshrine the law's most popular feature while pivoting away from a broader effort to overhaul the nation's health insurance system.

The order declares it is the policy of the United States for people with preexisting health conditions to be protected, avoiding the thorny details of how to ensure such protections without either leaving the ACA, or Obamacare, in place or crafting new comprehensive legislation.

Trump announced the move during a trip to North Carolina, outlining his "vision" for revamping parts of the nation's health care. During the speech, which came shortly before a campaign swing to Florida, Trump barely veiled the political nature of his intent.

"The historic action I'm taking today includes the first-ever executive order to affirm it is the official policy of the United States government to protect patients with preexisting conditions," Trump said, despite the fact such protections are already enshrined in law. "We're making that official. We're putting it down in a stamp, because our opponents, the Democrats, like to constantly talk about it."

And our governor has his head up tRump's ass:

    • Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida lifted restrictions on restaurants, even though the state's positivity rate — 12 percent for the two-week period ending on Thursday — is well above the 5 percent reopening threshold recommended by public health experts.
According to CNN today,, we were "steady" in caseloads, which I think is amazing between public school opening, colleges back with live, in -person classes (I live in a college town) and 2 weeks post Labor Day. So, sure,, let's go open everything up more,,,

What they said in 2016 and what they say now, but I'm not sure democrats would be any different given the opportunity. Also including a letter I sent to Romney this morning. https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vSNlyF...

    Dear Senator Mitt Romney,

I considered you when you ran for president, you seemed principled and strong. I was excited when there was a possibility that you would present yourself as an alternative to Trump (or was that just rumor?). Now you seem neither principled or strong, since you have caved in to pressure on SCOTUS.

I urge you to wait until after the inauguration in January 2021 for the confirmation of a Supreme Court Judge to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It is only a few weeks, which is not enough time to properly consider the nominations or give Americans the opportunity to have a voice. Clearly it is a question power and grabbing and has nothing to do with giving Americans a voice in the process or interpreting and respecting the intent of the Constitution. There are so many crises.

SCOTUS is very important, but it can wait. This year has been very rough, and even terrifying. The atmosphere of hatred and violence is frightening, and Trump's comments vote-by-mail, and on a peaceful transition if he is not elected, is terrifying. Over 200,000 Americans have died from Covid-19, and there is no end in sight. Friction with allies is increasing. We must address Russia's interference with elections and find a way to make it ineffectual. Healthcare reform is very much needed. Abolishing ACA is ludicrous, there is nothing to replace it. What happens to the health insurance that some people have finally been able to get? What happens to preexisting conditions. Climate Change is happening. We will not log or rake ourselves out of fires. Green, renewable, and alternative energy is proving itself and should be supported.

Trill, I'm excited to read the article, but I am in the middle of something and I don't have the time at the moment. While I've have as many concerns as anyone here I also try to remember when I'm feeling upset and a bit emotional over thee latest maneuvers of Trump and Co., that a lot of what Trump says is not as possible as he often makes it sound. I don't mean to imply that he isn't serious or that he doesn't want it to happen. In fact, I think he telegraphs what he wants and all his lackeys have to work hard to find out what actually can be done of what he has tossed out there. We have already heard much. Still, there is just over a month or so for us to find ways to throw a monkey wrench in things so I'm not totally freaked right now -- just damn upset.

I think I'll never quite get over so many people knowing exactly what they were getting and have forced us all on this road to hell. The only bright spot is most of the Dems. and likely even a few Reps. can get back. Trump and many of his big enablers likely may not and I hope with all my heart they don't and live long to stew in their possible shame and deep regret. They all had many chances ( thinking impeachment here ) to shed themselves of Trump and chose to look the other way. The other way soon I hope will look and be one of their all time biggest mistakes.

    Miriandra, I hear ya. I know it's a long article....someone told me text documents aren't large...this one's about 57 kbs...so I thought it wouldn't slow things too much...but, gee, if so I take note of your advice......thanks....

Jackie, am with you all the way on this...I don't see how the GOP could support him THEN and certainly don't understand it now.....his supporters I can more easily understand as they swallow whatever their outlets and news channels etc throw at them....without critical thinking or questioning...they laugh at his lies....at "Donald just being Donald..." He's like the out-of-control kid who's allowed to get away with bullying and teasing his siblings---even seen as a source of humor, entertainment for parents who look the other way and are misguided...

But the GOP, the Congressmen and women--I can't understand THEM!

    They just let him slide.....

Wish he'd slide---on a pile of his own self-generated poop!
