Trump's Tax Returns Reveal He Is Drowning In Debt And Buried In Fraud
Trump's tax returns have finally surfaced, and they show that he is facing hundreds of millions of dollars in debt and avoiding paying taxes.

(I know I should only be contemplating, meditating and reading on Yom Kippur, but I can't let this one go--I will try not to cuss or otherwise be unkind).
So Drumpf replied tonight about the revelations about having paid so little (and most years, nothing) in taxes that it was "fake news, I paid millions in taxes." Well, technically he sorta did, temporarily--in the form of perhaps millions being withheld. But then he got the refunds, which in 10 of 15 years were total, and for each of 2016-17 came up $750 shy of total. Of course, as he said during a 2016 debate, "that doesn't make me crooked, it makes me smart." And his acolytes love that--instead of being furious that they paid more than he did, they admire him precisely because they view his gaming the system as an achievement and an inspiration, one to which they aspire.
I agree that Barrett's religion, while tempting, is going to be the "third rail"* for Democrats should they raise it. It's tempting to ask her how someone so "pro-life" that she would refuse to impose a death sentence can be fine with civilians owning assault weapons and mega-ammo clips, but the 2nd Amendment is also electoral Kryptonite. No--they need to hammer on health care, civil rights (especially her remarks approving segregation as long as it's "equal"); and first & foremost, whether she would recuse herself from any SCOTUS matter concerning the upcoming election that would affect the man who appointed her (and who articulated the reason for her appointment and necessity for swift confirmation was to ensure a solid majority in his favor should ballot issues reach the Court). If she won't pledge to recuse herself, then I wonder if any more Senate Republicans would consider that enough of a line in the sand they won't cross, even if it means losing a chance to further cement party power......naaaaah.
*For those who don't live in cities with electric commuter trains, the "third rail" is the one that runs alongside & parallel to the other two rails, and provides the electric power. (In Chicago, it's uncovered and the train cars contact it from above; in NYC, it has a wooden cover on top, slit open on the inner-facing side, and the cars have electrodes horizontally projecting into the slit. Human contact with either type would cause instant electrocution).

Judging others will avail you nothing and injure you spiritually. Only if you can inspire others to judge themselves will anything worthwhile have been accomplished. When you approach others in judgment they will be on the defensive. When you are able to approach them in a kindly, loving manner without judgment they will tend to judge themselves and be transformed. -Peace Pilgrim

Interesting times now. I am thinking about the fact that the Trump tax bombshell isn't over. There is according to the NYT more coming. Yesterday late was just the first installment. I do think Trump has people who will not blink an eye. They never have or will-- but there are others, who while they may scoff right now will be likely thinking at some point that even if they admire him -- they will never be able to CHEAT on their taxes and have unknowingly supported him for yrs. while he was wildly and stupidly cavalier with his so called business acumen.
All this is known for now if not totally accepted, but this is just the first salvo. I'm waiting to see what comes next from NYT or Michael Cohen or even others who have some possible knowledge. Trump seems to have put something of a bulls-eye on Ivanka as well, since the taxes show she was already being paid as an employee, then given another designation as a consultant. That helped both of them avoid taxes. Just going to be interesting.
On another note -- Brad Parscale being talked out of his suicide attempt and being taken in for a hold and treatment. I find it just another instance of getting too close to Trump and suffering for it. Note to Bill Stepien -- where B. Pascale once was, there you are now. People who are too close to Trump are seemingly the ones who end up in pieces and ruined. I'd like to hope Trump is gone from this office and that people hopefully will stop suffering this sort of fate.

It's bizarre. As magiclight reported in her post quoting Intercept, “Not only do some Trump supporters understand that he is an autocrat who will cheat the rules to stay in power, that's precisely what they like about him."
The tax issue will STILL not sway some in his fan base. Yet if their neighbor, boss, brother-in-law or co-worker evaded taxes like that while they themselvesstill paid taxes through the nose, they would be livid and some would take action to make the evaders pay in some form or another.
But Trump gets a pass. May they think of his fraud every April 15th.

Another county drive on Ohio's back roads, this weekend to the lake, and dh and I were heartened to see a scattering of Biden/Harris signs along the way which is more than we saw for Clinton in 2016. Yes there were plenty of Trump flags and one house had four on large poles like they were the United Nations of Trump. How do they not see that as Hitler-like? And it's not trailers and run down homes with Trump signs; average to nice homes had them.
I'm miffed that both our local newspaper and news station report on upcoming “Trump train" rallies every weekend, cars and trucks parading though local area. It really riles up the base. Talk about biased reporting. The paper is owned by a Republican group that owns small newspapers up and down the east coast to spread their propaganda and local news is Fox affiliated.

So much energy here. Please turn it into action and contact your representatives. I have contacted mine as well as Romney, letter to the editor, and plan on contacting other senators. Those letters pretty much the same. This one is a little different, asking Collins and Murkowski to hold their ground.
Thank You for your decision to wait until after the election to fill the Supreme Court seat left by the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I understand you are under considerable pressure to move forward on the decision, but you recognize that there is not enough time to properly consider the nominations or give Americans the opportunity to have a voice. Maybe you also acknowledge the hypocrisy when McConnell refused to give Obama's nomination in 2016 Merrick Garland, claiming that it was null and void, that there was insufficient time, and the next president should make the choice in an election year. It was 8 months then, and now, only a few weeks.
The argument for originalism in interpreting the Constitution has always confused me. If the Constitution were fixed and could not evolve as we change, having women or people of color on the Court, would be very unlikely. Maybe a woman would be allowed an observation seat, but no voice or vote, and a black person, only half a vote. Society is constantly changing and our laws should reflect our beliefs and values. The Constitution has a process for amendments, recognizing that changes will be needed, but interpretation is also critical.
Clearly the rush to appoint someone before the election is a power grab and has nothing to do with giving Americans a voice in the process or interpreting and respecting the intent of the Constitution. The effort to rush the process is a veiled attempt to collapse three branches of government into two, absorbing the Supreme Court into the Senate, as long as the justices on the bench agree with the Senate. There are so many crises that Congress should make a priority. This year has been very rough, and even terrifying. The atmosphere of hatred and violence is frightening.
Over 200,000 Americans have died from Covid-19, and there is no end in sight. The economy is in shambles. Unemployment is the highest it has been since the Great Depression. Many face eviction and homelessness. Friction with allies is increasing. We must address Russia's interference with elections and find a way to make it ineffectual. Healthcare reform is very much needed. Abolishing ACA is ludicrous, there is nothing to replace it. What happens to the health insurance that some people have finally been able to get? What happens to preexisting conditions. Climate Change is happening. Green, renewable, and alternative energy is proving itself and should be supported.
Trump is a formidable opponent and tries to crush anyone who opposes him. Please hold strong. His comments vote-by-mail, and on a peaceful transition if he is not elected, is terrifying.

BlueGirl: Wonderful letter concise and to the point on key issues. Would you object to others using this to send to their Senators?

Betrayal, please use the letter as much as you want. Edit as needed to fit who you send to. They think we are not paying attention.

Wonderful letter. If it's okay with you, I will tweak it and send it to mine (with will do no good as they are 100% in Trump's pocket).

BlueGirl: Thank you for permitting use of your message. I did edit it for Senator Robert Casey who is anti-RBG replacement now and to Senator Pat Toomey who currently is pro anything the Repugican party sanctions. So his is a bit more blistering since his rationale for pushing this vote was a complete about face of what he said in 2016 and repugnant. He wants to run for governor in 2 years and that will be when I become very involved in that election. He's all for big business and the rich.
I taught in a college and know that I spent over $250/year on school supplies so the fact that he can deduct $70,000 for horrible styling is a shock and a travesty. He should demand a refund! Wonder what he spends on the orange makeup?
My colleagues and I would anonymously purchase textbooks for students and have a raffle for each section. We eliminated students who were receiving federal aid but our student population was mostly scraping the bottom of the barrel to pay their tuition anyhow. So we took turns drawing names from another colleague's class, to make it impartial, and had the textbook rep announce the winners. The book alone cost over $250/year. The one student cried because she was going to have to wait 4 weeks until she was paid to buy the book which meant she would be behind in class. Yes, this also gave them access to an e-book as well.
Trill, I will match any donation you make to his "fund". LOL. I am sure slim and none are the options?

So what will one more huge lie matter. The only president that didn't take a salary. Well, that doesn't give you the right to cheat on your taxes and as usual -- did you bother to check what you decided to say so you wouldn't look foolish and stupid first.
Financial stmts. can report a tax expense, but income taxes show exactly how much is owed and to whom.
