I totally think the Biden campaign should make that commercial!! **how much did you pay in federal taxes last year?**

Hahahaha! Thanks for the meme, Jackie! I love it and it gave me a good chuckle!

A commercial of essential workers revealing taxes they paid would be great!

I just saw on the news an ad showing regular people and what they paid in taxes. Don't know where it will run

It might be a Biden ad. I heard they were getting an ad together pretty quickly to air before the debate. Anything to get under his notoriously thin skin.

Love the Carter meme but trump and his minions would probably say Carter was a chump and a loser. My ex referred to people like that as “do-gooders” and not in a complimentary way. He really resented teachers too.Carter was President when I was in the Peace Corps. It seems like hundreds of years ago 😉

Good news and bad news on our mail ballots. Good news: they arrived today. Bad news: early voting doesn't start in Chicago till 10/14. So unless we want to take our chances with the USPS, we'll have to wait a couple of weeks before dropping them in the specially-designed early-voting polling-place dropbox (which will actually date & time-stamp them). Also, though Chicago will start processing them (checking signatures, slitting the envelopes open, unfolding, and stacking for the ballot-feeder machines, they won't be able to count them until the polls close. But each machine can count 600 per hour, and there will be one in every precinct. So at least in Chicago, the mail-ballot count could be complete by dawn Nov. 4. If you get a mail ballot but decide instead to vote in person (early or Nov. 3), you must present the entire ballot "package;" otherwise you get only a provisional ballot, which has a higher chance of being rejected.

The moment you want to make progress is the moment you become an eternal beginner. The dawn is the beginning of a new day: it symbolizes hope, illumination, and perfection. Every day the dawn plays the role of the beginner. It begins its journey at daybreak and ends its journey in the infinite sun. If you can feel that your whole being—your body, vitality, mind and soul—represents the ever-blossoming dawn, then you will always remain an eternal beginner. -Sri Chimnoy

Well, the day has finally arrived. First debate day/evening. I would imagine that the audience count will be phenomenal. That means it will be pizza night early so we avoid any time consuming activities in the kitchen. We will be watching here at 8 p.m. when Rachel Maddow usually comes on.

This may ( I've heard it said anyway ) be the only debate Trump stands still for and in that case I would certainly be thinking he and his people have been working/inventing ways to get to Biden to try and really goad/trip him up. Just my opinion, but as the incumbent I can't totally see Trump who will use a lot of his first playbook, making it through. When it has REALLY counted Biden has come through so far with great ( not perfect ) showings and nothing leading up to this time has gone well at all for Trump. The tax issues and being totally broke, owing millions of dollars and even having a campaign that is broke as well ( just cancelled ads in Ohio and another state ) are all negative points. Biden's poll numbers are generally all far better than Trump's and may have the chance of increasing rather than decreasing as more info comes out about taxes -- and as Biden keeps up the pressure on health care which despite anything Trump says, is going to disappear should he be successful.

I remain highly concerned, but as always -- truth can bring clarity and facts. I realize some people on the other side are still busy either dismissing or completely ignoring facts, but there are some weeks left to go and depending on just how much of those facts rise to the top could make a bit of difference. Trump SEEMS to have lost a lot of people. He will gain some at the same time ( Cubans and some Latino's ) but we really can't be for sure who will be helped or hurt. Both sides ( as painful as it is ) have lost voters from covid and that number is going to climb. Sad to say just when the other side is going to face up to Trump's using of everyone -- no matter which side. Maybe they never will.

I always like reading your commentary on the presidential race, Jackie.

Today I stopped at the Democratic headquarters for my county as I wanted Biden/Harris buttons. Had a nice talk with the volunteer there. She said initially they had a hard time getting Biden yard signs and at one point the guy who runs the hqtrs traveled to Toledo, a 3 1/2 hour drive, to buy 300 of them so the hqrts had to sell them for $5 each. But they finally got a big shipment of free ones. They looked really nice lined up there.

It was a breath of fresh air to speak with another dedicated Democrat in this area.

I bought 2 buttons and pinned one on my purse. I won't put a Biden sign in the yard, but my front porch is decorated for fall and I put my second button on the little scarecrow. The mail carrier, UPS and FEDEX people all have to come up on the porch and will see it as well as anyone else coming to the front door. I really like the subtlety of it. I'm not mentioning it to dh. Not that he will care, but I want to see if/when he notices. We always come and go out the back door, so he may never see it!

    Nice, Divine!

Considering driving over to the ward office (both state legislators, ward committeewoman, alderman, and our Cong. Jan Schakowsky) to see if I can score some Biden/Harris swag (bumper sticker, yard sign, button) in return for a donation.

Tonight's debate will not change minds, but it might influence the few who are (inexplicably by now) undecided. It will likely be entertainment/pep talk for both bases tuning in.

Biden needs to be cool and not let Drumpf get under his skin--he will definitely be baited about Hunter, but if he tries too hard & long to disprove that by citing the Senate conclusion that there was "no there there," he will be playing into Drumpf's distraction game. As a pundit said last night, though, because he's nice and well-liked, Biden can defend his son's honor without being seen as "shrill;" and because he's a nice guy, he can even get teary-eyed when talking about Beau, and viewers will empathize rather than consider him "weak." If Biden brings up Ivanka in response to slurs against Hunter, that's more airtime that would have gone to better use mentioning health care, pandemic mismanagement, tax fraud, national security risks, massive deficits or even too-hasty attempt to fill RBG's seat. Joe needs to be Joe--albeit more thick-skinned than usual. (And Wallace needs to be strict about Trump interrupting, heckling or going overtime--in those cases they should cut off his mic).

NC has rejected 20% of mail-in ballots submitted by Black voters--and not informing voters their ballots were rejected, depriving them of the chance to vote in-person. This is the state whose redistricting scheme SCOTUS ruled was "surgically designed" to disenfranchise Black voters. I smell a lawsuit coming--but this time from the "good guys" instead.

I don’t use my tv. Hasn’t been turned on since last thanksgiving. I don’t know what channels the debate will be on, if I can get it on my phone. Does anybody know? Not sure I can listen to orange liar anyway, might just be better to read about it tomorrow

I'm not one to donate to candidates, but I couldn't resist this.

"I Paid More In Taxes Than Donald Trump" Stickers

My eldest child (non-binary) was impressed by all the Pride buttons and stickers on the Biden-Harris site too. "Oh cool! Joe Priden!"

I cannot believe anyone would call Melania the classiest First Lady ever. Did they not see her almost porn quality photos? They were readily available on the internet though it seems they have since been supressed. What makes her classy? Her Marlena Dietrich aloofness? Her very expensive and sometimes butt ugly designer clothes, especially those reminiscent of dictator or white supremacy (African helmet) outfits? Her willingness to act as FLOTUS and make contributions to the American people by a viable program for good? Not sure what Be Best was about but it never really got off the ground and the Rose garden revision has evolved into a mess. She could not hold a candle to Michelle Obama or most of the first ladies who preceded her.

As far as Trump not looting yet, that remains to be seen since he has yet to leave the WH and let's hope he leaves empty handed. If he has been willing to defraud the US by not paying taxes and manipulating the IRS what is to stop him from removing his favorites from the WH as souvenirs. Yes, I realize this would be a federal offense but that hasn't stopped him from committing these offenses to date.
