So...whats for dinner?

Wally - brave of you to venture out. The first time is the hardest. Hope your DEXA is OK. I'm still on Prolia every 6 months, but it's been 10 years so I have to find an alternative this fall.

Wally, hope the DEXA results are ok and you feel like eating your normal diet soon.
At Walmart's yesterday I decided against leftover pasta dish for dinner and bought items for steak fajitas. I enjoyed the food. Lately I have wondered if I'm losing my taste.
Today the weather will start heating up again. The weekend looks like an advertisement for a/c.

Had a couple of cool days here but its gonna be warm the next two days. Might just make burgers and pasta salad for tonight

Love this idea for a thread! That "sounds good" response from husbands is so relatable—no matter what you plan, even if it's just cereal or leftovers!
Tonight we're keeping it simple with grilled chicken, roasted veggies, and a side salad. Some nights it's a elaborate meal, but on busy weekdays, quick and comfort food is the way to go.
It's always nice sharing dinner ideas and managing daily household routines together. Speaking of keeping track of daily home management and utility checks, resources like can also come in handy for quick reference.
Looking forward to seeing what everyone else is cooking up tonight!

Last night was "potato chips" and pizza. Sharon had gone to an open mic event and I stayed home in there was more severe weather. She ate the slice of pizza on the way home and I ate the potato chips.
Wally, it's good to hear that you are getting out. It took me awhile to do more than walk the 100 yards to the small grocery store get what I needed and head back home.

Eric, I didn't realize you lost a spouse. Sounds like Sharon is a good match with you and you are loving life. Beautiful.
My DEXA results in this morning; lumbar density increased (shock) but femur and hip, decreased. Still in Osteopenia, so no treatment. I think if I had to do treatment, it would be Evista (a SERM) after seeing what Prolia did to my sweet husband's jaw.
No idea what I will have. I'm exhausted just thinking about eating.

Eric, Whatever is in the house is a good dinner when the weather is stormy.
Wally, Osteopenia is fine by my standards. When I dip into the osteoporosis range I stick with old fashioned oral alendronate since it clears your system relatively quickly when stopped. My siblings have tried everything else out there and had all kinds of problems.
Carole and m0mmy, We had your comfortable summer weather today. Unfortunately it isn’t going to last.
Dinner tonight was salmon topped with Chinese 5 spice, potato salad and some not bad corn on the cob from NJ.

So glad, Maggie.
No eartly idea what to do for dinner yet.

We drove to Bullwinkle on 34 in Nevis for dinner last night. About 25 miles. I had made reservations, which turned out to be a good idea. On a Thursday, the pub style restaurant looked full when we entered, and it also has patio dining. Our table was next to a large table with at least 14 people. There were tv screens. Also some music playing in the background and a hub bub of conversation. In short, noisy. We each ordered a tap beer from an interesting list of craft beers. The wait for our food was about 45 minutes. I had a walleye sandwich and sweet potato fries. Dh had a California burger (lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo) and onion rings. The food was good, though not as hot as Dh likes his food to be when served.
Like a lot of restaurants, I would probably go there for lunch in the future but not for dinner. I'm happy the new owners are making a success of the restaurant, which has an up and down history. There's another restaurant in Nevis that has been recommended to me by a Nevis resident that we may try. It supposedly has good broasted chicken and pizzas. We may try it another week.
It was nice not to cook.

My fiancee. It's been 43 years and while things have greatly "smoothed over", I sometimes still get "surprised" by a memory.
Wally, hopefully the density didn't drop much.
The clock on the microwave oven and toaster oven, again, needed resetting this morning. I'm guessing there is some hidden damage that hasn't been found. It's 28 miles of power line from here back to the substation and it's not reasonable for someone with a bucket truck to inspect "every inch" on the line. Eventually a problem will become obvious… :-)

Eric, I'm sorry for your loss….I'm sad you still get "surprised" because it doesn't bode well for me 🤐
I had ice cream and peanuts for dinner. UGH…and wine. I'm thawing my experiment (pasta salad) and will air fry some frozen burgers for tonight.
My BIL (the youngest) phoned today…sobfest. He sounds just like my departed. And the paperwork keeps coming in. I have to figure out how to sell a scooter and a truck.
My DEXA (I thought I posted…brain is mush) was OK. Gained density in lumbar but lost in hip/femur. I think the curcumin I'm taking (to help keep MGUS stable—not sure how well that works, but trying to throw everything I can at it) helped with the increase so can't explain the decrease. I agree with Maggie, if I don't need to take anything and I've got a good 10 years left, I'll let it ride…..

I think the memories are a good thing. It shows that the person was important. Imagine if it were, "whatever, no big deal".
The memories are now no longer there all the time and when I am "surprised" the memory is most often one that brings a smile.

Eric, that made me cry…again. My memories are all over the map. The last year was a horror show…guilt, ugly, dooming, panic-y, scared….I don't want those. I want the good memories….I think. I know no-one else more important…but I'd happily like to feel at peace right now.
The pasta salad experiment was not horrible. Nice as a side with the burgers…sobbed making them, wondering if it would be to DH's burger-standard. OH the horror of it all….he would eat anything I put in front of him but I loved when he enjoyed it.

Carole, I agree that having lunch at a restaurant is often better than eating dinner there.
Wally, The last year was tough for you and the grieving process is also hard. Hugs.
Dinner tonight was French toast.

It took a lot of time for the raw memories to fade.
The past year was the worst. Don't beat yourself up over your grief.

Pan fried country style ribs, rice and a salad

It turns out that the cyclosporiasis outbreak in my state was caused by lettuce served by my local hospital (figures even though it's on their supplier.) It looks like it will be a summer without salads 😒.
m0mmy, Funny how I rarely crave a salad but I did when I read about your dinner last night. The local lettuce is delayed due to the cold spring.
Dinner tonight was creamy lemon dill chicken skillet and mashed potatoes.

Two of the farmer vendors at the farmers market have beautiful lettuce. One is a hydroponic (sp?) farmer and people come every week for their beautiful lettuce. They were sold out by 9:30 am yesterday. Many people are avoiding buying lettuce at the supermarket.
We had a delicious salad last night with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and onion from the farmers market. Onion for dh, of course. My salad had blue cheese and a store-bought blue cheese dressing. He likes Ken's Vidalia Onion dressing. Our main was leftover pasta dish.
Tonight we'll have baby back ribs and fresh green beans with potatoes. I plan to tenderize the ribs in the slow cooker. DH will finish them on the grill with barbecue sauce.
At the risk of violating the no politics rule, I have to say that gutting federal agencies like the FDA might not be a smart idea. Surveillance requires funding.

Carole, I agree with your sentiments on food safety. The recalled lettuce was grown hydroponically but the parasite was in the water which is constantly recirculated. The US food vendor is well established and one of the leading companies providing institutional and restaurant food. When DH worked in beef and chicken processing plants every carcass was inspected, not just samples.
Dinner tonight was Tuscan garlic shrimp on farfalle.

Dinner tasted good last night, reassurance that I still have operating taste buds. LOL. The baby back ribs were cooked just right, still some "chew" in them, and the fresh green beans were delicious.
If Clancy's is offering the meatloaf special tonight, we will go there for dinner. If not, the menu will be frozen pizza cooked in the outdoor grill. My choice at Clancy's will be walleye. I'm wondering about the safety of the salad bar or house salad.
Maggie, I didn't know the lettuce causing illness was hydroponic.

….hope Wallycat is "hanging in there" through the terrible times.
I cooked a couple of whole chickens (again) and now (again) have the bones simmering for broth. We'll probably cook some rice and make some BBQ pinto beans.
The sauerkraut that has been fermenting on the counter is just about ready to put into the refrigerator.

Eric, it will be great to have that chicken broth later.
Carole, It’s wise to make sure that Clancy’s is serving meatloaf before you go there. Those fresh green beans sound good.
The coach bus (temporarily replacing the subway) I was riding was blocked by a flock of urban wild turkeys as it navigated traffic jams. The driver from FL couldn’t believe his eyes. These birds have less plumage than rural wild turkeys but they are quite aggressive and very much at home in the middle of the city.
Dinner tonight was chicken, green beans and curried veggies from Whole Foods. They had meatloaf since it’s meatloaf Monday but I passed. on it.

Wild turkeys in the city. A surprising image. We see wild turkeys along rural highways.
We took the golf cart to Clancy's and saw a tour bus when we arrived. Fortunately, it was being loaded. Dh had his meatloaf dinner, and I had my walleye fish and chips.
Now I'm thinking about tonight's dinner. Maybe chicken.

We have turkeys. And deer and foxes and raccoons and who knows what else. The lake is a big attractor. Lots of eagles and waterfowl.
99° here yesterday. Our a/c is malfunctioning. Fortunately It’s still under warranty but that probably isn’t going to help with labor costs. I’m expecting a hit to the pocketbook.
A slight break in the heat today. I think I’ll make jambalaya for dinner.

Around here, it's coyotes, jackrabbits (black tailed hare), cottontail rabbits, deer and cattle. I haven't seen much else, but I haven't spent a lot of time looking.
The next door neighbor took a picture of a bobcat sitting in a tree and glaring at his three Great Pyrenees dogs surrounding the tree. The neighbor's guess is the bobcat was hoping for a "chicken dinner".
99F isn't too bad……if sitting outside in the shade and the humidity is low. I'm guessing the humidity there is not low..so..never mind of the "not too bad".
Last night was a "dry" (little to no rain) thunderstorm that lasted from around midnight until around 6am. Our dogs were busy letting us know they heard the thunder.

Carole, It’s a good that Clancy’s has a meal that you like.
Nance, I hope you get your AC working soon. Warranties sound great but labor is always the expensive part.
Eric, Great Pyrenees dogs are excellent shepherds.
We have all kinds of wildlife where we live but it’s not surprising since we border a conservation area. The usual creatures are rabbits, deer, groundhogs and foxes. We get the occasional bobcat, bear and moose.
Dinner tonight was chicken Alfredo on penne.

We had roasted chicken thighs, leftover sausage stuffing dish and a salad with tomato and cucumber, onion for dh, all from local farmers.
Another hot day ahead.
