Pasta fagioli made in the slow cooker - a new experience for me. I think I made it too spicy. I may be joining your DH with the pink stuff Carole.

Tomorrow starts some blessed relief from the 90s. Hottest September I can recall.

I made nachos with 1/4 can of canned chili.

Neighbors came to help me with my yard. I managed to chop down my oregon grape that DH was going to take care of; weedwhacked (again, and probably more in store), raked some of the mound, helped load yard waste and took care of some of the front of the yard. Another set of neighbors will buy DH's truck. I sobbed, sobbed, sobbed so hard I thought I was losing it, cleaning it out this morning. Like he died all over again. Ugh. And I chain sawed an evergreen that he had wanted to cut down but I dragged my heels 😭

Carole, It must be a nice change of pace to go to the farmers market as a customer.

Eric, Being able to can chicken broth without having to cook the chickens saved you more time for running.

Nance, Did you make Jamie Oliver’s angry pasta fagiole? I’ve always used the regular mild Italian herbs with no chilies.

Teka, Your meals as well as Wally’s chili nachos do make good snack food.

Wally, It’s convenient to have sold the truck to a neighbor but how painful to let it go. Hugs.

Dinner tonight was creamy chicken and asparagus with mashed potatoes.

  • Dinner was Nathan's hot dogs cooked in leftover chili. I spooned my portion over a slice of neighbor Mary's homemade sour dough bread. She gifted me the bread in her freezer when she departed. Our side was a good coleslaw made with thin-sliced cabbage. It was crunchy and tasty.

Today I will be cooking a small pork roast in the slow cooker. The side will be sweet potatoes that look too fresh for baking, but I will bake them anyway. We haven't had sweet potatoes all summer.

Carole, How were the sweet potatoes? I haven’t had much luck cooking them until they have cured for a couple of weeks. How nice to have Mary’s homemade sour dough bread.

Dinner tonight was oven fried chicken, zucchini sautéed with cherry tomatoes, and mashed potatoes..

  • The sweet potatoes were edible but not as sweet as when ready for baking. The pork roast had a good flavor from green onions and garlic seasoning but, as expected, didn't brown in the slow cooker. A good cool weather meal.

Crock pot tex mex dish. Surprisingly good and easy so I could attend afternoon book club. A friend gave us the little pasta in it. She got it at the Bethesda Women's Farm Cooperative, for those who have ever lived in the DC area, and the vendor gets olive oils and pastas from Italy to sell. Perfect!

Reader, I love the different pasta shapes. There are over 500 varieties in Italy but only 30 to 50 available in the US.

Dinner tonight was chicken parmigiana on penne.

    Ribeye, black beans and cauliflower.

My neighbors (amongst the good ones; bad ones = idiots) picked me up to do the title change and buy DH's truck. SO much emotion….ugh…took me out for brunch afterwards. They are planning to help me with yard work, along with other neighbors. I'm beyond moved. A huge sobfest from sunday (cleaning out the truck) till today…and all the emotions that encompass selling a part of DH 😭. DH's daughter called this evening…it was lovely and sad and etc….

back to ugly yard work, which I know a lot of you love. I'm an "indoor kitty," so this is all new to me.

Hugs, Wally. You're doing well meeting challenges in the midst of grief.

It's in the 40's this morning. The sun is out. The predicted high is 62 degrees. I agreed to play 9 holes of golf at 11. Time enough to cancel. LOL.

Dinner last night was oven-fried chicken thighs, small boiled new potatoes, and sliced tomatoes with blue cheese. I had olive oil and white balsamic vinegar as my dressing and dh had bottled vidalia onion dressing.

Dinner tonight may be a frozen pizza. I'm out of ideas.

Wally…I agree with Carole…you are doing well at all the "stuff"….

I've been cleaning weeds out of the garden. For a couple of weeks it twas too muddy to get in there to pull the weeds and now that it's dried out some, I'm dealing with a "weed forest". I've spent about 3 hours on this, and it's maybe half done. The weeds all have deep roots and most often include lots of spines.

I wish DH loved rock gardens…but I suspect weeds would find their way. I hacked down 6 Yucca, one more Oregon Grape, trimmed branches by the driveway, cut back some grasses so the septic people can see the tubes. I even fixed my own chainsaw! I'm sobbing my way through and don't care who hears me.

Eric, I'm impressed you go out there to do it. DH spoiled me, never having to deal with a yard. Carole, hope your weather holds up for enjoyable golf.

    Leftover ribeye tonight.
