Hi NM! Beyond impressed to see a drink using Dr. Pepper. 🎵I'm a pepper, he's a pepper...wouldn't you like to be a pepper too? 🎶 Remember that cutie David Naughton dancing around and singing that?

Yes, camillegal, I just try to muddle through this new MBC world of mine. I was wondering about your name: are you

    Camil->legal or Cam->illegal ? I like it either way :-)

DOTD will be spumante with DH when he gets back from a nearby city where he had to spend the day getting auto repairs done, mostly recalls!

Thanks Jazzy. I saw Aretha had passed on when I signed on a little while ago. Both songs are beautiful. We really have lost a queen.

Every morning for the past few days I'd breathed a sigh of relief to not find an Aretha obit. Alas, that ended today. She had a wonderful long run, incredible range and a voice we may not hear the likes of again. Thank goodness for recordings & videos. What else can you say about a soul singer who, when Luciano Pavarotti called in too ill to perform at the Grammys, stepped in and nailed "Nessun Dorma?"

Muddling, back in the early 1980s, there was a preppy fad precipitated by Lisa Bernbach's "The Preppy Handbook." Being a mostly satirical songwriter (especially parodies), I jumped in with "The Preppy Anthem," to the tune of the "I'm a Pepper" commercial. I was contacted, via referral by the manager a local comedy club where I used to be the house "chirp," by the producer of the upcoming "Preppy Comedy Album" to record it. Went down to the studio and sang it for the producer. He loved it, but said he was afraid of a copyright violation lawsuit. "Can you change the melody and write a new chorus?" he asked. "I really want it on this album." So i rewrote it to his specs in about an hour, while sketches were being recorded. The album came out--on vinyl only, with a 500-copy pressing--and we were each given five copies to sell for whatever price we wanted, plus one to keep. As it was largely a vanity project by a comedy singing-telegram company, there wasn't a second pressing. Someone told me they saw it in a Georgetown record shop awhile back. And about five years ago, I was contacted by an emcee of a comedy showcase (who'd heard another song of mine on Dr. Demento) with the specific request that I play BOTH versions of the song! As he would've been about 10 years old back in 1981, I have no idea how he knew the song's history!

Winemaker dinner tonight at Cellars: Fess Parker (yeah, that Fess Parker, Disney's "Davy Crockett") Vineyards, a Santa Barbara-area Pinot Noir specialist. Last night, with a couple of filet mignon sliders Bob brought home from a hospital golf outing's buffet, I had a little of that Rioja leftover from Fri. night's dinner at RPM Steak.

ChiSandy, what a great story about the Preppy Comedy Album and the Dr.Pepper song as an inspiration for your improved version!! I remember Dr. Demento. Radio used to be more than pre-packaged playlists wedged in between long blocks of ads. Sigh. Well, even back then the top twenty etc were syndicated in slick packages. Late at night I'd listen to my radio, slowly turning the tuning button and catch far off broadcasts from Chicago and other distant locales. Kind of amazing but kids today wouldn't get the wonder.

Jazzy u always pick the best songs and how could anyone not like The Great Singer and all the songs she brought to us for so many years. But I have to say RESPECT is one of my favorites cuz now I can really spell that word too.

Sandy what a story, u never told us that. luved it.

Muddlin---It should be Cam-illegal, but I was never clever enough to come up with anything good, so it's just my first name Camille and part of my last Gal, again may I say my boring always come thru. And yes remembering the radio when we all sat around and watched it as we listened, why did we watch it???

Well I woke up at 7:41 and went to the bathroom got my coffee and noticed it was getting darker outside. thought it was morning AGAIN, don't even remember being tired then so thinking I woke up in the morning I thought oh great I actually slept the whole nite.

And I'm wondering why is Kim so HAPPY, so I guess I'll have to wait til morning. 'Splain urself NM.

By the way, if any of you have Sirius radio, they have an Aretha tribute channel on 49 right now. I heard this when I went to move my car in the garage and flipped to that and plan to listen more tomorrow.

You know, when I am driving my pink cadillac. Who is coming with me?

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Fryday! Happy TGIF day! Happy Day!I got the Clinical Manager job!20 to 24 hours per week. The new position officially starts September 17th. Until then I am going to continue to help cover for the nurse that is out on medical leave, and when things are slow I can start orienting in the office. I need to be functionally up and running by the time the current CM goes on vacay in October. Oh, and I am gettinga $2 and hour raise. So, dependable number of hours, part time work, new things to learn, less driving over all, I think I'm sitting pretty! Even Sadie was excited when I told her about it yesterday!

Cammy--Isn't it funny how the time change and earlier darkness sneaks up on us?

Jazzy--I heard about Aretha Franklin passing away. I'd been hearing about her failing health and was wondering if this announcement was inevitable. I hope she died peacefully and comfortably. Someone on TV said the world's soul is diminished with her gone.

Muddling--I do remember that Dr. Pepper song!

    Sad Morning, Minus Two.

Chi--Wow, we have a recording artist in the Lounge! I think being on that album is really cool!

Cammy--now you know why I was Happy yesterday on Fb! And you slept all night!YEAH!Nothing like good sleep!

Illi--Good Morning!Come on in, the pool water has been warmed and the swim up bar is serving specialtycoffees along with muffins and donuts and pastries!

    I'm in, Jazzy!

Good Morning, LovefromPhilly!Welcome to the HTL! Keep visiting and you will eventually find out that there is a lot of talk about drinking but not really all that much actual drinking! At times some of us aren't drinking at all in real life due to various things (antibiotic treatment for infection, dietary restrictions to lose weight, during chemo, and a few other reasons). None of us give up the right to a nice adult beverage when we want to, and certainly not giving it up to the bc monster! And your input is NOTa disruption!

    Countess Bunty Rothschild's DOTD:

    Peach Cobbler

    What You'll Need

    How to Make It

    1. Rim an old-fashioned glass with brown sugar and crushed graham crackers.
    2. Pour the drink ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
    3. Shake well.
    4. Strain over fresh ice in the prepared glass.

    And a special treat:

    Aretha Franklin's Peach Cobbler

    Ingredients

    • 10 (8 1/2-ounce) cans sliced peaches, drained
    • 2 sticks unsalted butter, divided, 1 stick cut into small pieces
    • 1 cup sugar, plus 1/4 cup
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/8 teaspoon grated nutmeg
    • 1/2 cup plain bread crumbs
    • 2 store bought refrigerated pie doughs
    • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • Canola oil spray
    • 1 pint vanilla ice cream, for serving

    Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large saucepan, add peaches, 1 stick of butter, 1 cup of sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and bring to a simmer. Add bread crumbs and stir. Using a sprinkle of flour, roll out both pie crusts; 1 will be used for the top of the cobbler and 1 for the bottom.

Spray a 10-inch square pan with canola oil and place 1 layer of dough into the baking dish. Place a few chips of butter, as well as a dusting of the remaining sugar, on the bottom crust. Pour the peach mixture into the baking dish. Cut the top layer of dough into strips and arrange them on the top of the peaches in a lattice pattern. Top with 3 or 4 chips of butter and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the crust is brown and the peaches are bubbling. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Cami, the kids got to his moms house Wednesday evening around 6 pm. So they were there all that evening. We met up with them Thursday morning for a whole hour and a half. Then the plan was maybe for me to meet them on my return from the doctors, me on my way back up the mountain, them on their way down. Meeting around 2:30, they would have to leave his moms around noonish. She was bitching that she felt like she was being jipped time with them. Now mind you, she goes out to visit them about every 2 months! We see them for one day around Christmas time, so once a year. Oh she pisses me off! Anyways, I'm certain that Joey will do just fine in HS. OMG, is really heading to HS......oy vey!

LDB, I miss you dahlink! Glad you have a plan in place. Please be sure to come back and remind us so we can be in your pockets and of course praying for you.

Muddling, we do indeed try to have some fun, but also very supportive. As for Camillegal, you got it all wrong. It's Camille Gal! But I thought the same thing as you when she first visited the Hot Taddies Lounge, akd HTL. She def. falls under the illegal catagory tho! Ahhhh, I see Lucy already 'splained. And pay no attention to her when she says she is boring. She is anything but!

Sandy, how is the wrist and mouth doing? Filet mignon sliders?

Illona, did you find that beach, beach chair and cocktail?

Jazzy, I think we all need one of those pink caddie's. My ride is a yellow FJ cruiser and whilst in Tulsa doing my treatment, I saw a pink one. OMG, I wanted it so bad.

Image result for pink fj cruiser

Hey Love and welcome. No disruption. Pull up a bar stool and join us. Jocks (one of our tattie tenders), bring this fine sister and gin and tonic without the Ibrance!

Cami, I see you in that pink caddie with Joey driving and the two of you havin a BLAST.

OH NM, so so happy for you, and it's something you actually wanted and were hoping for. God is good, eh? Sadie is very proud of you! I'm pretty sure this is with office 2, right? I wonder what main office is thinking about this! We shall have some good chuckles over that! I'll have the Tenders bring some of that peach cobbler over to the swim up bar, and we can have some with our coffee.

OK, so my TM's took a rather large leap, not happy at all, but was actually expecting it. My onc made me feel somewhat better, he said so many doctors won't even do those TM's and only ask for scans when the patient is having symptoms. Therefore keeping me on my FU pills even longer. So, I will stay on it for now, only cuz I got a new bottle yesterday. But he does want me to change treatment when done with my traveling and to do scans in November. Haven't had them in 2 years. Hoping to do some canning today/tomorrow, then out of here Sunday to Phoenix and fly out Monday.

Jazzy - I can see us all in that Pink Cadillac, what a sight for sore eyes!

Chi - Love hearing your musical stories, music has been a tonic for you for sure! And for us cause you share...

Cami - I am glad you have resolved those poopy issues ;)

goldie - I was just wondering how you were doing (wasn't sure if you had gotten overcome with tomatoes)!! I had some green tomato chutney last night - yummy, but red is best!

Hi to IliMae, Memasue, Muddlin, Love, Dara and all - have a great weekend! Cheers! janky

NM, congratulations! So happy for less travel and the right amount of hours!

LovefromPhilly, my next box of Ibrance should get here today, just in time for today's first dose of round six. I may toss it back with a screwdriver, closest thing I have but think of all that vitamin c!! Really, I have very few drinks these days, but I imbibe when I want to and when I think I can tolerate having no tylenol or other pain meds that night.

    Have a good Friday everyone.

Kim, congrats on the new gig!

So last night at the Fess Parker wine dinner we had three Pinot Noirs (a rosé, Ashley's Vineyard, and Bien Nacido Vineyard--the latter ltd. to one bottle per customer). We started with a Rhône-Ranger white blend of Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne; then a very delicately-oaked Chardonnay. Dessert came with an off-dry but not sweet Riesling.

    Seltzer tonight.

NM- congrats on the new job. You will be a good clinical manager and the hours sound perfect. I hope Sadie will understand

Goldie- sorry to hear about the TM's being up. Did they say what they will change for treatment when you are back home or just to be discussed upon your return? I think you leave tomorrow so I hope your travels go well. I like that pink SUV too!

Ill- you are in the countdown to a few weeks to retirement now, right?

My local spa always has a nice discount on service in August and it was timely for me to get a facial before I go back east for my reunion. It has been so hot and dry this summer, although my skin is looking better lately with the higher humidity. Facial and brows, check, next week we do nails. I got my hair done a couple weeks ago.

I have been listening to the Aretha channel on Sirius and heard this song twice today driving to and from my spa apt. Bit different style for her but I really like it!

After almost 10 yrs. of getting gel French manicures (my nails are weak and my R hand nails, even with multiple coats of hardener, don't make it through the first 30 min. of a 2-hr. gig), I gave up. I won't use fingerpicks--just can't get used to the way they feel and I lose them all the time--and need my R hand nails (at least index & thumb) to be long and L hand nails to be super-short for fretting cleanly. Now, it's becoming clear that for several months, playing stringed instruments is not going to be a factor in how I do my nails. And using only my R hand to go rummaging around in my bags & purses and working the velcros on my cast-brace has caused the R hand nails to start peeling up, chipping & spliting after only a few days. To reinforce them, half the time they need reinforcing with silk patches & even plastic tip extensions. Even without the patches, the French manicure requires several more layers of different products (bonder, builder gel base, no-chip polishes in pink with white tips, and topcoat), which are prone to delaminate. So we cut the R hand nails to the same length as the L and decided to do just one color, all the same product (Gelish no-chip polish) in a cherry-red--just base, two coats of color and topcoat. Hoping it works. (Not used to anything that intense on short nails--I might insist on pink, beige, greige or mauve next time).

Today was the funeral for Gordy's ex-GF's grandmother. She was 88 and had non-small-cell lung cancer for 10 years--the last four of which was metastatic. Her daughter (Gordy's ex's mom) has metastatic pancreatic cancer (going into her 3d year), but drove up from AL right after chemo to make the funeral. Last week, she stepped in a gopher hole in her yard and broke her ankle. They gave her a cast and crutches, but because balancing on crutches is difficult when non-weightbearing on one leg--they didn't do physical therapy first--she fell backward and cracked the cast. She's going back to Gadsden next week (gets her cancer treatments at UA Birmingham), and hoping they won't have to do surgery. The unspoken question is how long before she fully recovers from the surgery--if she lives that long. To add insult to injury, her ex (Gordy's ex's stepdad and father of her younger sister) just died of Alzheimer's.

We were all set to drive to the funeral and then the cemetery--but I couldn't get the car out of the garage. We had a massive downpour last night and it entered the GFCI box via an open louver window, so the interrupter kept tripping and the opener wouldn't work. Bob managed to open & close the door manually, but I'm not that strong. (Plus, it's a PITA to have to idle in the alley while futzing with the heavy overhead door). So we had to take an Uber up to the funeral. Couldn't catch a ride in the procession to the cemetery and Gordy was starving, so we Uber'ed it home. (Meanwhile, I made an electrician appt. for Mon.).

I managed to hold the red GFCI button in long enough to re-engage the door opener. I tried to work the levers to close the window louvers, but they wouldn't budge. So I found a broomstick that had been bent in two & patched with duct tape--I bent it into a V around the handles of the levers and used my body to push them up to close the louvers. Hoping that does the trick--we'll see what happens if it storms again...and it will.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! Raining with a grumbling of thunder here this ayem. Sadie is curled up in the recliner snoozing and hasn't even opened her eyes for the thunder. I guess she's pretty relaxed and comfortable! I do wish I had thought to take the work uniforms off the line before I went to bed last night, they've gotten rather wet again. Oh, well, the storm will blow through and they'll dry off or I'll bring them in, run them through a rinse and hang them on the rack in front of the fan later. Just think, in a month I'll be wearing real clothes and not uniforms to work! I'll get to start wearing the fun clothes I've got in the closet ALL THE TIME!Yeah!

Goldie--His Mom sounds like an entitled, self-centered biotch. Too bad. I bet she's afraid you will develop a better relationship with the kids than she can! Yes, the new position is with office 2, the one that is an hours commute. BUT, I've done it before, no reason not to do it again.I don't know for sure what the main office thinks yet, will find out Monday. The director there knows, and sent me a congratulatory e-mail, I'm not sure if the rest of the staff know yet. Likely will be announced Monday. I will start letting people know on Monday, as I am working for that office. I can't wait to see some of the reactions! God is good indeed. He put this position in front of me 3 different ways AFTER I had decided not to apply. Even I'm not so dense as to not get that message! I'm sad to hear the TMs took another step up. Sounds like the Onc has a solid plan, that probably gives some comfort. I'm reassured a bit byhis not insisting on changing treatment ASAP. Safe travels!

    Janky--Thank you!

    Muddling--Thank you!

    Illi--Thanks! Great beach pic!

Chi--Thanks!3 Pinot Noirs?Sounds decadent. I have discovered I really love rosé of Pinot Noir.

Jazzy--Thank you.I think Sadie will understand, especially since the office is small enough that I can take her in for a visit once in a while. Long days will be an exception, not the rule.

Illi--I didn't realize you were on the retirement road! Is it hard not to be bored? Do you have any hobbies or interests you can indulge in now?

Morning, Philly! We actually have 5 Tattie Tenders. Well, 2 Tenders and 3 Wenches. The Tenders are Pants and Jocks, the Wenches are Kandy, Skates, and Sugar. Eye candy for everyone to enjoy!

MinusTwo--Thanks, it's a great step ahead for me!

Janky, I have not made any chutney. Actually, I've never had any. Do you put on something, or just eat it as is? I'll have to Google it.

Muddling, good for you on your intake of Vitamin C. We don't judge here!!!! Bottoms up!

Illona OMG, I love it! How big is the wall sticker?

Jazzy, we leave tomorrow for Phoenix and fly out Monday morning. Flight is too early to leave from home and make it. Not sure what the next treatment will be. Ibrance or another one, but I can't remember the name of it. You know how these drug names are, written in another language. But probably have to do scans first.

Love, is it ok to call you that? And it's the HTL, not HTD, or have you been imbibing a little too much? Just joshin with ya! Our Tattie Tenders are Pants n Jocks. Here is a little video we did a long time ago. Gives you a better perspective of the HTL. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA1oe_ER96s

NM, when we are home, clothes are pretty much grubby ones. We will put on our casuals when going to town. I also rarely wear make up or do my hair when I am home. As for having a better relationship with the grands, that won't happen, we only see them twice a year at most. And like I said she visits them every couple of months and probably a week at a time, which my step daughter HATES. I don'think she really cares for her, more or less tolerates her. So the new postion, you are now done with visits, correct? Just managing office 2? I'm already chuckling over what the main office is thinking. Again, so happy for you. Was the other Tender Hunk? I think so, named by Kat?

Did my salsa, boy oh boy, it sure is alot of work. I'm pretty sure most people haven't a clue what all goes into canning. I wrote up a little thingy about it and plan to give it to those that are lucky enough to get a jar of something! Here it is if you care to read it, otherwise just skip over it!
    CHEERZ MA DEERZ!

Please consider yourself SPECIAL if you are receiving some canned goods from Darrell and I.

It starts in December, when we plant seeds in little 6 packs.

When big enough, we transplant them into solo cups.

Then when even bigger, we transplant into 1/2 gallon pots.

All along, setting them outside during the day, to get sun and some wind to make them strong.

Then we plant them in the ground, and cover them with our water bags.

Almost daily, removing the bags during the day, and putting them back on for the night.

    They weigh about 20lbs each.

And then install the irrigation system.

Then every 2 weeks we fertilize, which requires sprinkling fertilizer around each plant and then working it into the soil.

    2018, we had 40 plants.

Now to watch for tomato worms.

When the plants produce, we go out and pick and then wash them.

Now to start the canning process.

Making lots of ice for the water for after blanching. Boil water, place tomatoes in for 30 seconds and then into the ice water. Set aside until they are all done.

Now to core, peel and cut up into a bowl. Which can take me all day to do, depending how many tomatoes I'm doing. For salsa, it requires hours of cutting up onions, peppers, garlic, cilantro, and other veggies/herbs.

More to the canning process, which I won't go into detail, but can take a few hours as well. Lots of sterilizing, boiling water.....it gets pretty hot when doing all of this. If I am pressure canning, I have to stay close by to monitor the gauge. We don't want an explosion!

SO PLEASE ENJOY AND KNOW THE WORK THAT GOES INTO THIS GIFT WE ARE GIVING YOU….

Great photo, Lori--still got it goin' on! 40 tomato plants? Wow! We don't even have enough room in our yard for the 8 (formerly 6) in 18" pots on our deck. No luck growing them in the ground, as sunlight was inadequate (thanks to the 5' solid privacy fence our neighbors insisted on putting up--they wanted 6'; their predecessors & we ripped out the existing 4' plank-and-post fence and just shared the garden space); and squirrels are shameless. They're a bit less agressive about having to climb from trees to grapevines to our deck plants. Just now the regular-sized tomato plants are fruiting--not yet ripe, but we're keeping an eye out for the first pink blush so we can pick the tomatoes and ripen them on our windowsill, rather than risk letting the squirrels take a bite out and discard the rest. Meanwhile, the two heirloom cherry tomato plants are bearing like crazy and at least 5-10 are ripe enough to pick each day. (If we wait too long, they split). They are sweeter than berries!
