Thanks Sandy. You don't have to put the maters on a window sill, a counter is just fine, they will still ripen. Glad you are getting at least the cherry maters. I have the room for a decent size garden, and container gardening doesn't do too well here, due to lack of rain and it's so hot. I hope you are feeling better and healing well.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Lovely, sunny, breezy, cool morning. I actually had to turn the fan off in the bedroom last night, and the ceiling fans off this ayem in the living room and kitchen. It's making me fell a bit energized. Now to stick to the plant to stay out of the recliner and get some housework done today and life will be very good indeed. Sadie is doing her part to help, she's curled up in the recliner so I can't use it! Very helpful pup, Sadie is!

Goldie--It's too bad you can't see the grands more, but life is life. Too bad the step daughter has to tolerate her MIL so much, but she's probably doing the best to keep peace in the family for the sake of the grands. I will not be done with home visits totally in the new position, but will do far fewer. Not out on the road every day. I'll be the second Clinical Manager in the office, and eventually the position will grow to full time. When it needs to go full time I'll have first refusal. And YES!Hunk is the third Tender's name!Thank you!WOW, what a job all that is!

Cammy--Yup, been singing all around the house this weekend!

Goldie--that is a BEAUTIFUL pic of you!

Chi--Love the tomatoes, they must taste wonderful!

Hi friends- just a quick note today before I go off line for a bit. In the last few days before my trip and lots to do.

I went up to Santa Fe yesterday to meet up with friends and do the Indian Market. I have not been there in a long time and it has probably tripled in size with over 800 booths and thousands flooding the city square. Found a couple of the artists whose work I follow, and one guy handed me a bracelet and said it was $5500 and "would work with me on the price". No I did not buy it, but you knew that! Anyways, this is the place for the Native American communities from all over the US to make their money and heard from a friend they know someone who made $400K in a morning and was sold out. I did buy a small pendant from a local vendor on the way out that was much more in my budget. Also caught some music with some friends playing at a total dive bar (how fun was that?) There were mimosas for brunch too! A day with drinking, shopping, music and friends is about as perfect as it gets?

I was tired by the time I hit the road and then saw I was heading into this area with dark clouds that looked a bit foreboding. As I headed down the hill off the plateau, I saw lightening around each side of the highway and told myself to be ready for anything. At the bottom of the hill, I could see I was heading into the rain and it was unbelievable. Raining sideways with wind so strong it was rocking the SUV back and forth. So I pulled over and put on my hazards and prayed no one would hit me. Several others did the same and then when the rain eased and visibility improved, I high tailed it out of there. There was one more bolt of lightening to the right of me about a 1000 feet to scare the bejesus out of me and then I was in the clear. This type of storm happened once before in this same area when I came home from a July 4th outing to SF. Grateful to get home safely, whew. We here in the southwest never underestimate the power of these monsoonal storms with their fury.

Here is a photo of what people walking around the square look like. I think some of these people are jewelry store owners so there might be a wee bit of advertising going on here too!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday Monkey day! I am actually looking forward to going to work in the main office this ayem. Going to be a lot of people I am going to miss working with, and some I can't wait to see the look on their faces when they hear I am leaving. Poor Sadie will get quite the earful when I get home tonight, I'm sure!

Jazzy--What a great day you had! Wow, the prices that some must have been charging to make $400K in a mornin! Glad you found something in budget and beautiful. What a storm you encountered! I'd have been terrified of a tornado coming out of the rain and swallowing me up. Good idea to pull over in weather like that. I've never had a lightning strike so close, that must have been totally petrifying. Glad you got home safely. Interesting characters, and very effective advertising!

Undercover- sorry you are having a hard time. Natural remedies I know for nausea include mint tea and dried ginger. For pain, it depends on whether it is for short or long term. I have taken oxy and tramadol after surgeries. Longer term, I do tylenol or advil. If you have had surgery lately, no advil or the like for awhile. Looks like you have been out of treatment for awhile but maybe still dealing with things......

I only had an appetite issue in the past after abdominal surgery. I just had to wait for things to heal and made myself eat things that I could handle. Cottage cheese, eggs, etc. If you are post surgery, protein is very important for healing.

undercoverebel, isn't recreational weed legal in SoCA? If so, you could always consult the "budtender" at your local dispensary for advice as to which strains enhance appetite (usu. the predominantly THC strains). I do know that for pain and anti-anxiety, CBN (cannabinol) is stronger than CBD (cannabidiol). But CBD is the only one that is legal in all 50 states--no need for a medical cannabis card--provided it's extracted only from "industrial hemp" (used for rope, sisal & fabrics and bred to have less than 0.3% THC). Not cheap, but available at health food stores, vape shops, & online. The doctor who's helping me with my medical cannabis card sold me some Receptra "Prime" (beginner-strength) CBD oil and "targeted topical" balm to help joint pain. The oil tastes like oregano--excellent if you chase it with a cherry tomato--and the balm smells sort of like handmade soaps from a 1970s hippie food co-op. (The vape shop across from CVS sold me Hemplucid water-soluble tincture, which is stronger, but super-pricy and smells awful). If you're not in an area with a dispensary, there's a website called HelloMD that rates various strains & products and sells online w/in CA.

Jazzy, that's some serious bling on those vendors. (I wonder how many pounds per person)? We had strong enough storms tonight to shut down some suburban commuter rail lines. (Good call not watering the deck garden today). I've been in two storms like the one you describe: one driving across "Alligator Alley" in the Everglades, and one in SW KS between Independence & Coffeyville. Super-scary--nothing to do but pull over, hit the flashers and pray it stops and you don't get hit. During the KS one, we were on an unlit country road with deep ditches and the narrowest of shoulders. My singing partner was driving--no way I could have.

Last night I knew Bob would be coming home too late to dine out, so I cooked. Had "Cuvee Y" cava with sautéed prawns & 2011 Barbera d'Asti with grilled lamb shoulder chop. No wine tonight, just water. (Bob's down in Oak Lawn because he has an early echo-reading day tomorrow morning).

ChiSandy- Thank you for the tips. I have places to go for that since it is legal, but I don't know if anyone there will be able to tell me what works for chemo issues. That's where this thread comes in, I know the girls here are well-versed on the subject. I just imagine the guy there telling me "Try this dude," while he's baked from trying too much of the merch.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! Yesterday at work was interesting. A couple people actually cried when I told them I was leaving! I got lots of well wishes and good luck wishes. The one nurse that I thought would say something snarky did, so I won that bet with myself. Found out that Snarky Nurse is going full time, and is not management but has taken over supervision of the home health aides. I'm really surprised to hear that the director is letting that happen, it's so totally part of the Clinical Manager's job to supervise the aides, but hey, what do I know? That office is getting truly toxic in some ways, I am glad to be getting out. Anyway, today I am working for the new office, and I believe it will be announced there today, so should be a very good day!Sadie says "hi" to everyone!

Morning, Undie--I don't know much about Willie, but some of the others do and I'm sure you'll get all the info you need very soon.

undercover, check which dispensaries had been limited to medical marijuana patients before recreational weed became legal. The budtenders there are serious and expert as to the properties of the strains they sell, and which symptoms they excel at controlling. Even in recreational weed shops, you won't be waited on by a slacker stoner: the regulations for running a dispensary and training personnel are quite arduous. (Maybe even ask a oncologist known to be sympathetic to MMJ use--they're not allowed under federal law to prescribe strains & products, but they might be able to share knowledge off the record). Oh, and be prepared to pay cash--because weed's still illegal under Fed. law, and banks are Fed. regulated, dispensaries are cash-only businesses; no credit cards or checks.

Couldn't wait to get home and tell Sadie about that. She just looked at me as if to say "You don't deserve any less, silly Hooman."Then, to keep me humble, she arranged herself so her snout was in my nose in the middle of the night. Definitely a glass of bubbly for me tonight, for two reasons:

First, celebratory: I am officially and permanently out of my cast-brace! Six weeks post-op, my surgeon says to start using my arm & wrist as tolerated, and then (gradually) push the envelope a bit more each day. PT/OT starts Mon., with special emphasis on improving flexibility so I can make full chords on guitar (already can perform--with minor fingering adjustments--again on dulcimer).

Second, consolation: went to the endodontist today. First root canal (on the abscessed tooth) is complete. But the neighboring incisor--which my dentist and perio had thought was the culprit--has a defect in the root that devolved into a cavity. So root canal #2 started today as soon as the first one was completed. (Sort of reminds me of the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah, when as soon as the last line of Deuteronomy is read aloud, the next line we read is "In the beginning...").

Not sure which bubbly it'll be, though. Have half a bottle of "Y" cava open; another of rosé prosecco in the fridge. Will call Bob. If he'll be home at a decent hour, I will chill a bottle of the real French stuff...or at least the good Franciacorta or Santana Brut.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! Hard to believe this month is almost over. It's nice the nights are cooler and Sadie is sleeping on the bed with me most of the nights again. Only thing is, she used to sleep on my right side, now she's started sleeping on my left side and I am having to learn to be careful when turning over that I don't end up pushing her off! I've gotten used to leaving some room on the right side for her, now I have to learn to leave room on the left! But as long as she is happy, I can adapt.

Goldie--I've been PM'ing with Undie, too. Enjoy your visit, poop in when you can!

Chi--Off with the Cast/Brace!! YEAH!! Ouch on the second root canal. Definitely a good day for a glass of bubbly!

Thought better of the bubbly, as I was making pasta Bolognese and Bob graciously left me half a bottle of awesome 2010 Chianti instead of polishing it off. Those three ounces I poured were ambrosia.

Tonight at Cellars is the "BBQ Festival 20/20:" tasting 20 wines (that go with BBQ) for 20 bucks, plus an all-you can-eat buffet featuring ribs, pulled & fried chicken, brisket, and various salads, sides and mini-desserts. I will get quizzical stares for eating ribs with a knife and fork (still have to avoid using my left incisors & cuspids, and chew mostly on my right side). But seeing as how I don't have dental insurance and my two root canals cost more than two months of Gordy's rent, I'm not gonna do anything to endanger those teeth. Anything my endodontist says, I reply "yes, ma'am."

    Thank you, Cami!

Sweet wheels, Jazzy! Isn't it great when we get lucky at the rental counter?

Last night, there were lots of good red zins, rosés, a few whites and an OK prosecco. Had to second-guess Bob as to what to buy, as he wasn't answering his cell.So I bought him two bottles of a nice CA "Rhone Ranger" blend, two of a red blend (grenache-syrah-carignane) Languedoc-Roussilon (SW France); a 6-pack of cans (!) of a young, uncomplicated, unoaked WA chardonnay; a Sonoma and an Austrian rosé, 2 of a crisp Verdicchio and 3 of a near-dry Rheinpfalz riesling. All chillable, and guzzlable now--no need for me to Coravin them as I do so I can have a little of the good stuff every day or two. I had to swirl, sniff, taste and pour out--nobody was spitting, so far be it from me...; but all in all I imbibed less than 5 oz. total...and I tried all 20 wines for sale.

DOTD: chocolate egg cream (albeit the seltzer was kinda flat).

Up really late--storms woke me and then a jangling commotion outside: in the pouring rain, someone got repo-ed right in front of my house. (Wasn't a breakdown--didn't see an owner, just three guys in identical yellow slickers--one driving the flatbed, one driving the car up onto the flatbed, and one following behind in the towing company's van). Bad for the poor guy who'll find his car missing,, but at least there's now a parking space...

Sadie is stretched out in the sun on the deck and keeps coming in an nudging me to get outside, too. She likes it when I sit on the deck with my coffee and rub her belly or scratch her ears. Such a hedonist.

    Mornin' Ladies,

Well Sandy u put a nice spin on that car repo, "at least there was a parking place" LOL Oh everytime u explain wines I want some, but I dont really know if I can have any let alone a glass. In reality I don't think I would have given this a thought years ago and would drink even if I took all these stupid meds, but now I feel oh maybe not. hahaha. But some sound so good, u should give wine tastings urself. Member when I told u ladies Leslie sold tickets to different kinds of tastings a couple of weeks ago, one of them was wine tastings I think in Glen Ellyn<Sandy know where that is> Like I said before I never knew any were around here. But I'm not going I walk as if I'm 3 sheets to the wind now, they probably wouldn't ever serve me.

Everybody should be back in the next day or 2, well I think some are gone. We'll see.

My cousin has had 2 rads and said they were fine except of course the position u have to stay in, I did tell her that was the only thing that could be uncomfortable so she agreed, now 3 more than I have no idea what's happening next. Assuming more tests, but she hasn't said.

Talked to my sister last nite, all company has left. Well they stay in a motel but went to my sister in the afternoon for drinks and appetizers then went out to dinner then went back for dessert. Lu is in loads of pain and she knows people just don't get it. Her girls made all the food for the house and brought drinks and desserts, and everyone was helpful, but it was alot for 6 days for her, she did say they laughed a lot so that was good but she's in rest mode now. These friends go back like 60 yrs. so she does enjoy and like everyone. We have a tendency in my family to stick with all the same friends we had yrs. and yrs ago. We hate change. LOL

Joey went to the show last nite with 3 GIRLS, oh this kid they are all a bunch of friends and honestly I do like that, I just want him to have friends, HS is such a shock to most kids and I think it is for him. Big school. lots of kids---so I know the feeling.

OK nothing more new, busy with work and we have a work picnic in 2 weeks, well it won't be like our first meeting a few yrs, back with 3 of us. LOL Now we have enough to actually have a picnic.

    Wow Jazzy, nice ride indeed!!!

Sandy, teeth are indeed expensive and why is that!!! We saw a commercial while visiting my MIL on a set of teeth, STARTING AT $17,000.00. Now that's a WTF!

Cami, I can't believe those MEN of yours come at such wee hours of the night, you hussie you!!! Sending prayers for your family, friends and especially Leslie. What she is going through sure rememinds me of all the troubles Wacko had, for sure. I'm sure Lu is exhausted after all that company for 6 days, glad they moteled it at least. And sorry for all her pain. Hoping you will be able to make the picnic. Thank you for you sweet words, re me and mese baby blues!

Had a nice visit with MIL, my DH's brother and his wife. My MIL is in such pain from her RA, and will cry when just getting dressed. I often offer my help, and even helped her dress a few times, but she is so bull headed, and WILL NOT ask for help. Glad to be home and in my own bed! Finally a good nights sleep! Now to get back to my maters!

Good Morning Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Got Blueberry scones in the oven, a cup of coffee at hand, sun shine on my back, Sadie leaning against my leg. A very, very nice ayem here. My hands smell like lemon from zesting and juicing a couple of lemons. Love that smell! The recipe called for 1 cup of blueberries, I put in 2 cups. Still looks a little light in the blueberry distribution, but we'll see how it comes out. Trying a new recipe

Cammy--Your cousin is almost half way through rads, that's a good thing. I hope it isn't being too hard on her. Sounds like your sister has had a great time with company, too. I can see where she would need to be in rest mode for a few days. And Joey in High School, that still amazes me to no end. And going to a movie with a gaggle of girls? Good for him! It's good for him to have friends of both genders. The work picnic sounds like it's grown up a bit, too!

Goldie--$17K for a set of false teeth? What the heck are they made of? Gold and diamonds? Your poor MIL, RA is such a nasty condition. Add stubbornly refusing help and you have a recipe for serious pain. If people only knew how much a little help getting dressed can save a lot of energy for fun things later in the day.

NM, the teeth START at 17K! My MIL did have her teeth replaced and it's like $1000.00 for each tooth. Yes, my MIL is very stubborn and also 81 years old!

Well, I have another counter full of maters, however there are lots of little ones. Those are such a PITA. I plan to make more salsa, I guess to give away as gifts, but since we were gone, I don't have everything I need to make it. So I will blanch and peel them today, go to the store tomorrow and get on it Wednesday. Also did some weeding in the garden, as we had gotten some rain. My beans did not produce this year, just a few, perhaps enough to pull the seeds out and grow next year. They were tall and green, but no beans!
