    In keeping with the conversation!

If you're not familiar with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a couple shots of these will have you seeing them. Layers of melon liqueur, peach schnapps, and absinthe make for a powerful Pride cocktail shot, but don't worry. The sisters will take care of you.

    DOTD: GREEN FAIRY

    image

    1 Part Absinthe

    1 Part Melon Liqueur

    1 Part Peach Schnapps

    PREPARATION

    1. Pour melon liqueur into shot glass before gently layering peach schnapps on top. (These two liquors will not layer perfectly).

    2. Using the back of a bar spoon layer absinthe on top.

    DRINK RESPONSIBLY!

It turned out that Otis, a single man who lived with his mother and her grumpy old dh, down the road from us was gay. I learned this after I was grown and got to know Otis after he got out of prison. He claimed to have enjoyed his time in prison, which he called "the joint."

I can never remember all those initials. One interesting thing is that Queer was once a slur and now it seems to be coming into favor, used by gay people.

I'm missing Native Mainer's post this morning. Sure hope things are ok with her and the pups and Mom.

Agree...thinking of NM and hoping things are OK.

With my reduction of sugar my drinks have been coffee and iced tea mainly, maybe due to less food.

Goldie thinking of you re the scans. I hate med stuff yet here I am. 😒 🤣😷 Hope all goes well.

Carole, kind of a funny story. How could anyone enjoy time in prison???

Reader, it won't be for probably a month or so before I do the scans. I have to schedule everything at 3 week intervals, so I can do them all in one shot on my visits to Phoenix.

I just got home Wednesday and have to turn around and go back on Monday. My step daughter and her family are coming. The original plan was for them to come for the week, as the kids are out of school, spenidng time in Phoenic and then some up here. Her DH's mother lives up here by me. Well, they just changed their plans, arriving Monday and leaving Wednesday. It's a 7 hour drive for them and they do not get moving early! I'm actually a bit pissed about it, but feel I must go. I told her I didn't want to interfere with her visiting her family, she says they want to see me, that I was a priority! As of Wed. night, she hadn't even told her mom she was coming! And if her mom wanted to see her, she would have to come to her. Mom lives about 2 hrs from Phoenix.

I'm back to my Kirkland cabernet.

Hard days talking to my sister, going through her horrible grief. I'm emotionally exhausted so I can only imagine how awful it is for her (her husband died last week). DH's radiation beam therapy starts on Monday-Friday; he's had this before on different painful areas so at least no surprises. The radioligand therapy (Pluvicto from Novartis) is still unavailable. Frustrating.

    Happy holidays to those celebrating.

Wally, I'm sorry about your BIL. Losing a spouse is horrible. I lost my DH a year ago January, and it only seems like a few months ago. That being said, I think the worst thing that could happen, would be to lose a child.

Karen, I hope all is going well with you and that your DD is handling things ok. Also, that chemo wasn't too hard on you.Where is everyone? Cooking/preparing Easter dinner?

Well, I still feel like CRAP! I imagine the "crud" is hanging on due to compromised immune system. Been sick since last Friday. I got my days wrong for the visit and trip back down to Phoenix, it's T-Th. So I will go T and come back W. I did tell her that I wasn't coming if I was still sick. I do not want to go, and only doing it because I feel like I should. I don't even know how to hold a conversation with her, she laughs after just about everything she says. It's so annoying! I'm almost hoping I'm still sick!!!! LOL

    Directions:

    1. Drizzle the chocolate syrup around the inside rim of a glass.
    2. Place all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.
    3. Shake until the chocolate syrup is completely incorporated.

I hope everyone is feeling better soon - emotionally and physically. (((hugs)))

Eldest Child is in JROTC at their high school, and they had a fundraiser breakfast at Applebee's - flapjacks, scrambled eggs, and breakfast sausages. The food was edible, but not great. But the JROTC kids were managing the floor - hosting, wait staff, bussing. They did a great job taking care of all the diners. Chief said this used to be a huge deal pre-pandemic, and they'd cram the restaurant every time. This was their first year doing it again, and they had a decent crowd. Hopefully it will be even bigger next year.

When EC was selling tickets, DH suggested they wear their uniform when they canvased the neighborhood. They grumbled at first, but wound up selling out of the tickets they had on hand in less than an hour! They decided Dad had some good advice. 🤔😆

Treatment #2 has been a little easier than #1. I came home and took a long nap and slept on and off most of the day. Little stamina. Yesterday I felt a little better so that was good. I've been up since 4:30am and my stomach is not right so I too a compazine. Will see how the day goes.

My DH and DD#2 took care of all the food for the 1st two sedars, Shabbat dinner and Shabbat lunch. Now we need to figure out the menu for the next few days. I have an idea for mains - its just the sides. DS is going to try to come for dinner Monday night so he can see his sister one more time.

Been snacking the past two nights when I get up so I've put a little weight cack on. But then I wake up and not hungry.

The temp is heating up here - should be in the low 80s T, W - too hot for my blood this time of year.

Happy Easter to all who celebrate. Have a great Sunday.

I haven't posted since 2020, but I visit the website every day and think of you all as my family, even though I am a silent member.

Long story short - - my husband suffered with many health issues - - dialysis for 13 years, legally blind, diabetic, heart problems, many mobility problems due to broken bones, busted right elbow and a bunch of other stuff. I retired from teaching at age 65 so that I could become a full- time caregiver. Then I was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer that had spread to my lungs. (2019) DH passed away November 2020 from a heart attack.

I am glad that I have avoided Covid so far but I am still dealing with being the executor of my mother's estate. I won't feel really retired until all of that is resolved.

I have been working with a therapist to deal with anxiety and depression which I wasn't able to shake on my own. I was prescribed Zoloft which caused Drug Induced Liver Injury back in September. It took 5 months to recover full liver function and I was off all medications including Femara & Verzenio. Scary times!

Coming here to read about your lives has made a difference in mine. As many have said, this is the club that no one wants to, join but this is such a special place for us. It is comforting to come here to vent, to celebrate and to learn from each other.

Thanks to everyone for reading my story.

Happy Holidays to everyone today- Passover, Easter, Ramaden and many more this time of the year. It's sunny warm day here in New Mexico and I was out to listen to some music this morning into early afternoon at a wonderful outdoor spot I have not been to in some time. I was going there almost every weekend during the first summer of the pandemic, then it got too crowded and parking issues and so I stopped. I think it's been a good year and a half since I was at this spot and saw many music friends today. A couple nice hours to visit, listen to some great jazz and then was on my way to drop off a flower for a friend who is just back from the hospital this past friday (another comrade battling a difficult cancer).

I was thinking I had posted here a few weeks ago but think I started something and never finished it? Thank you for the birthday wishes, it was a nice one this year. Got back to doing some celebrations the way I used to pre-pandemic.

We are well in to spring here but also have had a lot of late winter/cold, etc. but should be through the worst of it. I was listening to something on our local NPR station yesterday about how long and cold this winter has been here. We have had a lot of late season snow right up into late March, but now it's warmer and drier again. The fruit trees were out late but now with the warmer weather, everything is blooming like crazy. Ah choo.

I am a week out from my trip to HI and working to finish some packing today. Feeling pretty ready to go and just finishing up packing some personal things today, and will do the last of the incremental packing next Saturday. One full week of work to get through and then 10 glorious days away on my trip. Feels like forever getting to this time.

Lilly- welcome back and hope you like it hear. Life is filled with so many challenges and it sounds like you have had more than your fair share of them. I am sorry about the loss of your DH and all the troubles with the drugs. Wishing you better days sister.

Karen- you sound like you are coping through the start of chemo and finding a way to enjoy the holiday as best you can. I hope you are getting good rest, can eat as you are able and that things get easier as you go along.

Goldie- I think you have some travels you are doing (can only scroll back just a tad here without loosing this post. Hope you getting warmer weather out in AZ now too. Enjoy your time with family!

NM- your mom has a lot going on with her health and memory. I know it's hard to juggle this and the job too, I had years of dealing with my mother's medical issues and her fighting us every step of the way. Will she go visit your brother while you are on your cruise? Your trip is coming up soon too and know you really need the get away. This working stuff in our 60s is hard stuff, at least that is the way I feel.

ChiSandy- I saw there was a tornado not far from Chicago this week. I hope everything okay in your hood? Really bad tornado season this year. I remember the tornado sirens from my days living in TX years ago. I have a friend in Arkansas I am still waiting to hear is okay.

Mistyeyes, Teka, Celia C, Sunshine, Miranada, MinusTwo and many more here, hoping your holiday weekend is lovely if you are celebrating.

I have to go do some yard stuff before the weekend wraps up and the work week is back again. Hope everyone has had a good start to April and holiday season and sending love to those who are working through difficult times right now. Talk to you when I am back (and probably with some cool looking cocktails, I LOVE blue hawaiians).

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monday Monkey Day! It's been a busy weekend, being on call and trying to write a paper for class. I didn't have to go out and see patients this weekend, which is a change, but there was a steady stream of phone calls with questions and computer work to do to support the weekend staff. Mom seems to be back to her usual self, her phone "isn't working" again, meaning the mute has gotten turned back on. Which she swears she doesn't do, but she does try to figure out every message and notice she gets as instructions on how to use the phone. I'm so afraid she is going to get caught in a scam doing that sometime, probably soon. The puppers had a great time this weekend going in and out and making mud in the yard. With temps predicted to maybe hit 70 today, I think it's safe to say mud season has arrived.

Carole--I've got to admit that I really didn't understand all the gender identity terms until I worked as a school nurse and saw a poster listing all the terms with definitions. There was a girl in my high school class that always dressed in pants, walked and talked like a male, I wonder now if she was/is trans. I do hope she (he? They?) is happy with life now.

Goldie--I tend to jump right into class work on the weekends, if I get off on email and other stuff I can spend hours wasting time and don't get anything done. I need better self-discipline in that regard, among others. I keep meaning to get into the lounge after classwork is done, but once I sit down in the recliner, away from the desk, I don't seem to get back to the desk. I probably should get a laptop so I can work from the recliner, I'd probably get way more done in a day that way! It sounds like you've found a good place to be getting kidney care. Having someone like the PA take the time to answer questions is so important. Great DOTD! Green Fairy is another name for absinthe, which is something I do enjoy from time to time. It is potent, though.

    Morning, Reader!

Goldie--last minute changes of plan are never much fun.

Dizzy McFuzy here, wishing everyone a belated Happy Easter!

Wallycat--your poor sister, she much be going through such a hard time. Hoping DH's treatment goes smoothly and is very successful.

Miriandra--the JROTC fundraiser sounds like a lot of fun. Hopefully it will grow back to what it was pre-COVID. And they learned that Dad may just know a thing or two about the world!

Karen--glad the second treatment was a little easier. Hopefully things are settling down for you anxiety-wise as treatment gets going.

Lilly--Good Morning, great to hear from you! You have been through so much. I'm glad you find some comfort here in the HTL. May you continue to avoid COVID, and get through settling your Mom's estate soon.

Jazzy--so nice to see real signs of spring, isn't it? Mom won't be going to see my brother while I'm away, I don't think she's going to be able to travel like that by herself anymore, even if she would consider the recommendation. She's got a few friends that will keep an eye on her and help her out as needed while I'm away, and since she is still driving (frightening as that is) she is still pretty self-sufficient, even if it does take her 3 trips to the grocery store to get everything she wants because she leaves the list on the kitchen counter every time!

    THE VACATION COCKTAIL

    INGREDIENTS

    DIRECTIONS

Muddle ginger, lime juice, and syrup in mixing glass. Add all but spiced rum. Shake with ice. Strain into chilled cocktail glass and float spiced rum on top. Garnish with mango. Serve in a Cocktail Glass.

Kim - glad to see you posting. Missed you.

Lori - how are you doing?

Nuclear CT scan of my neck on Wednesday. Treatment and then Nephrologist on Friday. Next week, my breast oncologist and endocrinologist. I just messaged her to tell her Hematologist switched me to Zometa from Prolia - was due or Prolia with her next week.

Slept from 10:15 to 4:15 with only waking up once - didn't need to sleep on the sofa.

Weight is back down :( I thought I ate a fair amount yesterday. Taking Pepcid AC twice daily and compazine once or twice daily - at least when I get up. The Zofran doesn't do much for me and binds me up.

Working today, so I'm sure DD#2 or DH will cook dinner. DS is coming over. Salmon, quinoa with sauteed veggies and a salad - pretty easy dinner to make, but I'm sure I'll be wiped out. Menu is planned out for the week. DD#2 make a huge pot of chicken soup for Shabbat lunch. We made a chicken pie topped with mashed potatoes last night. Still 4 containers of soup left.

Spent 4 hours yesterday working on a class assignment just to get caught up for last week. Still 2 more lessons to do then the final project. Also need to finishup my book study and the summary for part of my evaluation. One more observation. I don't not like being observed with kids as I fly by the seat of my pants as right now, I only have a few kids I pull out of class, the rest are push in.

    Happy Monday

Miriandra, how fun for the kids to do the breakfast. As for "parents", we NEVER have good advice! Even when they are grown a$$ adults! I can vouch for that one!

Karen, my eating habits have not changed in 40+ years, and no matter what I eat, I can't gain any weight. And I certainly don't want to eat a bunch of crap to obtain that! It is what is is, I guess. Glad you TX was a little kinder on you this time around. When will your DD be leaving? In your pocket on Wednesday, and hoping you don't have to wait too long for results.

Hi Lily and welcome. We are always here to lend an ear.

Jazzy, I had wondered if perhaps you weren't already in HI, since we hadn't heard from you. The next week will fly by, no doubt! My travels aren't until the beginning of May, looking forward to it! Weather here has been nice as well and of course my drives to Phoenix are beautiful with all the desert blooms.

NM, good to see you back! But sorry you've been so busy. I DO have a laptop and that's right where I park my arse, in my recliner, laptop on lap. I have coffee you ladies every morning! And the phone saga continues! Surely your BIL, SIL and friends will be checking in on mom while you are gone? Will you be able to do so? The "Vacation" DOTD sounds like just what I need, with all that juice and ginger!

Well, I won't be going to Phoenix. I'm still sick! My step DD (SDD) kept asking me if I had made my decision. I had told her, I'm not coming if I'm still sick. Now mind you, she was supposed to meet up with her mom and 3 aunts as well. Sunday, she asked me what I was going to do. I don't know yet, I'm still sick! Told her that when someone with cancer is sick, it's not good for their body and they need to rest and get better. It's like she had no concern for my health! Long story short, they canceled! She said, I'm not driving all the way out there to see my aunts and mom for a few hours. They were coming from San Diego, 5 1/2 to 7 hour drive (depending on traffic), but yet she expected me to make a 9 hour trip to see her for few hours! Went to bed at 7 and been up since 3, I just can't sleep when I'm all stuffy and have to breathe through my mouth, so I see a nap in my early future, which I have been doing anyways. Usually around 8 or 9, so call it a nap, or just going back to bed!

Saw my first hummingbird yesterday....they're baaaaack!

Karen, glad to hear #2 is going better. May the rest get easier and easier.

Native, DH's rads are just a bandaid for what he has, but I appreciate your kind words.

Our hummingbirds stay here all year long. Such delicate little beings and so fun to watch.

Still working on the Kirkland cabernet.

Lori - sorry that you are still sick. Feel better soon. Last night I fell asleep pretty easily by 10:30 and was up before 4:30am!

DD#2 has a 5:45am flight on Sunday morning. It's great having her here.

Worked wiped me out!! I figured it would, but I need it. I'm not even going for a walk as I feel that will be too much and you all know how much I like my walks.

I wear a KN95 at work all day. I have been since Dx. It is hard wearing a mask for 8 hours. I took it off at recess duty and if I'm in my office alone which isn't much of the day.

75 today. 80s tomorrow and Wednesday.

I'm jealous of y'all who get to see hummingbirds. We get them occasionally, and we've planted flowers that are intended to attract them and butterflies. We used to see hummingbird moths quite a bit. They're big for moths, and they fly very much like the birds they imitate.

NM - just a thought about your Mom & phones. I know you can't get a 'land line' ever again once you cancel it (which is why I've never cancelled mine living in hurricane country). But maybe the 'smart' phone is too confusing. What about just getting her an "old fashioned" flip phone? If she wants to get on the internet, get her a tablet or lap top just for internet. And get a flip phone ONLY for phone calls. Not too many 'controls' on those. I have a flip phone from Consumer Cellular that was recommended in the AARP magazine and am very pleased.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! We had a beautiful day here in Maine yesterday, lots and lots of snow melted off, and big chunks of ice broke up and pushed off the back deck. I was even able to turn the heat off yesterday and it's still comfortable in the house this ayem. It got to a bit over 60 yesterday, is supposed to be about the same today, and actually hit 70 later in the week. I could learn to like this! The puppers are pretty happy, too, I could leave the kitchen door open so they could go in and out on their own last evening, which they did, frequently, chasing each other around. Needless to say, they slept well last night!

Karen--it will be so nice to come home to have someone fixing dinner for you! The Shabbat menu sounds really yummy. I hear you about the classwork and getting caught up.

Goldie--Mom will have plenty of people checking in on her, she has several who check regularly. She just doesn't ask them to do anything for her, she saves that for me. Which is ok, it's her way of getting me to come to visit, I think, even though I would visit pretty regularly anyway. While I'm on vacay it won't be my job to make sure she is still alive every day, that job will go to bro and SIL. Your SDD sounds a bit self-centered, expecting you to drive so much further for a visit. Hooray for the hummingbirds! They should be getting here about the time I get back from vacay.

    Good Morning, Wallycat!

Karen--masking can be uncomfortable, but it is worth in, especially in a school setting. Taking it off feels so good, though, doesn't it?

Miriandra--keep planting the flowers, and maybe put up a hummingbird feeder--once they find a food source they will come back regularly.

Minus--I'll tell mom about the flip phone. She had one briefly and liked it, but then she got 2 bills in the same month and she wasn't going to be "taken advantage of for being old" like that and got rid of it. Maybe I can convince her to try that again. Thanks!

Kim - it is nice having someone cook dinner for you, but not so nice when you don't have the energy so it's not a choice. DD2 is amazing. DH and DD will be in charge of cooking the last couple days of Passover which start tonight.

It was great having my DS coming over as well. He is still trying to process the diagnosis and treatment and figure it out and compare to 17 years ago.

I was exhausted when I got into bed at 10 last night that I was in tears - I'm already worn out by it all, part of it is the multiple specialty medical appointments. AS tired as I am when I go to bed, 6 hours sleep is it - at least I'm not waking up a couple times and moving to the sofa. SO I've been awake since 4 am. Didn't get out of bed till closer to 5 as my watch didn't charge - so I put it back on the charger and it still didn't charte - turns out it wasn't in the outlet!!

    Sandal weather today!

    Have a great Tuesday.

    Hello, Ladies.

Safe travels to Sandy and congrats on your labs; I'm envious.

Karen, hope you can get some rest. I have not slept well for two nights, anticipating the drive and DH's treatments. So sleepy.

We are also having weird weather; In Sequim, it was 50 and sunny; driving back, dropped to 38 and sleet, pouring rain and a snowflake; back in our community, 47 and sun...now 59. I enjoyed the sleet and the snowflake and the 38 is definitely my preference. I'm bracing myself for summer; hope it will be very mild here. I don't know how our hummers survive here all year when the temps (rarely) drop to 20. DH puts out sugar-water for them and brings it in so it won't freeze overnight.

I'm having a Rhone blend from Quadrant CDR tonight.

Wally, I don't sleep well, so sleeping 6 hours with only waking up once is wonderful!!

Not as wiped out from work today. Thankfully, I'm off tomorrow and Thursday for the last two days of Passover so a short work week. DH and DD prepared everything for dinner tonight and for tomorrow night.

85F this afternoon - same for tomorrow then cooling to 70s Th and 50s Friday. Crazy spring time in the Rockies. At least it's not snow.

Have a great couple days. I won't be online till Thursday night or Friday morning.

Wally, did you finish that cabernet? LOL! Remind me of why your DH is getting radiation? And why is it just a bandaid? As we get older, and those of us have spouses, more often than not, both have health issues! You crack me up, injoying temps in the 30's!

Karen, I went to bed at 5:30 and was up at 3 am. Looks like much the same tonight. Still some quality time left to spend with your DD. Easy does it, rest when you feel you need it. See you in a couple of days.

Miriandra, I second hanging out a hummingbird feeder, surely you have them there? I also get hummingbird moths, quite cool, until I learned that is where tomato horn worms come from!

Minus, my friend in Moab, that had all the snow, has a flip phone. Says he'll never get a smart phone. I was under the impression, that eventually flip phones won't work when they do this big 5G upgrade or whatever it their doing.

NM, nice weather and mom taken care of while your gone, happy puppers...life is good! SDD isn't typically self centered, at least not that I've ever noticed, but only see her once a year, if that. I just felt like she was planning her trip around me being there, almost as an excuse to see her mom and aunts, regardless of my health.

Got a few things done today, I can't do much, my body is just toast, no energy. A tiny tad better today, but only tiny tad. Not coughing as much and not having as much gunk to cough up or blow out of my nose, sorry TMI!

Yesterday I completed my mental health therapy sessions and my hip PT sessions. Yay! Today I took a little walk to see the bluebells at the Manassas Battlefield. Naturally I overdid it (there were too many loose stones on the trail). The bluebells were a little sparse but lovely.

PS : Thanks for the warm welcome!

On the subject of phones, we got our pastor a smart phone. He returned it for a flip phone. He was always accidentally turning his phone on before he got a flip phone. He wasn't into texting or anything like that. Just wanted it for phone calls. He's perfectly happy with the flip phone now.

I admire you ladies that know your flowers so well. DH is the gardener in our family and I am trying my best to learn.

Goldie, DH was dx with metastatic prostate cancer. So far, he is only riddled with it in his bones...EVERYWHERE...he also has arthritis so when his back is in misery it is hard to know if it is cancer or arthritis. He's had castration and antihormonals but those only work a few years so now, we need to look at other treatments. The rads are for the biggest spots that are in the line of pain; no way to radiate his whole skeleton. Pluvicto would be his next choice but Norvartis is not allowing doctors to take new patients since they aren't making enough. His PSA at dx was 10,000 (4 being considered high and cancer suspect); since treatment, he'd gotten it down to 98, but it is creeping back up, now at 186. The rads may bring it down if there is a big load of cancer. And we wait and wait for the Pluvicto. He may have to do the Xofigo, but our onco isn't a fan. He may have to switch anithormonals, but most of the guys only see a 10-20% benefit for a short time.

I hope you are feeling better, Goldie. Yeah, I'm an odd duck that I would much rather have winter year 'round than spring or summer. I need to win the lottery so I can have a condo in Australia and fly there when we get summer, LOL.

Goldie - some vendor's are trying to get rid of flip phones. (just like ATT wants us to get rid of our land lines). I'm like your friend. I do not want a smart phone. In fact because of the CIPN (chemo neuropathy) I have no feeling in my fingertips so I can't 'swipe' anyway. I just want something for phone calls. If I want to be 'on line' - I'll sit at my computer. If I'm on vacation, I take a tablet.

There are several companies who advertise flip phones for seniors in the AARP magazine every month. Like I mentioned, I went with Consumer Cellular. And that was on the recommendation of a friend from Boston who had used them for several years. I don't line things automatically debited from my bank account, but they are willing to charge my credit card automatically each month.
