how about drinking?

I'm melting in the vegas heat... that and running my butt around town with about a thousand Dr. appointments! The kids have dentist/orthodontist. Today I had neurologist- I've been seeing him for a couple years for my migraines, which are better since chemo- yay! But my medication on it's own (called Topamax, but nick-named dopamax) cause "cognitive impairment" aka memory loss and stupidness. Together with the chemo-brain I'm in big trouble! So we halved my dose since I'm doing really well with the headaches. Hopefully I'll start to be able to think again!! Oh happy day!!
Then I'm still working out the radiation, and talking with all my doctors to make sure everyone's on the same page with the next steps. Haven't made a firm decision yet which doc I'll use for radiation or even which treatment I'll use. No pressure here!
Love to all my "hot" HTL gals!!

Hi girls! I'm back from my little jaunt to southern Cal. I left my heart in Riverside Really missing my daughter but I'm sure she is learning a lot in art school. She's my baby and has never been away from home more than a few days for science camp (which was nearby and she was with her classmates and teacher).
I can't possibly catch up with all the gossip, not to mention the drinks (but I did find some awesome Pinot Noir while traveling the wine trail on the way home. I'd love to share some on the bus). Nothing like coastal Pinot.
Decided today to get new foobs. I tried to accept mine but no amount of tequilla makes this okay. I'm hoping to get a revision and different implants in a couple of weeks. First I have to fire my PS though and that may take some tequilla cuz I actually like him.
It was really hot in Riverside (94) and today I was in San Jose (95). Ok, I'm a wimp. When you are in the desert and you complain about the heat I'll bet it's hotter than that! It was a civilized 74 degrees here by the sea. You ladies keep cool and keep the tropical drinks coming!

Kathy, all the drinks from though out the year might be nice, but I'm NOT volunteering for that one! I did the video! As for the White Castles, they do sell them in the frozen section of the grocery store, but they are not cheap and only have 6 in the box. DH can eat 25 of those little suckers and says they just aren't the same as fresh ones. They have Krystal Burgers in TN as well, and yes they are the same thing. You be careful out there in the all that heat and sun. Hope you enjoyed your impersonator and had a great dinner!
NM, so glad you finally getting around! Has Sadie come home yet?
Junie, bring it on! LOL. I am have the wenches go out shopping today to get everyone oozie water guns, so we can have a water war in the pool this weekend!
Astorm, how long will your daughter be gone? I am thinking maybe just for the summer? As I didn't think she was very old, maybe 14 or so? Glad you got to do a little wine tasting on the way home and how thoughtful to bring some on the bus to share.
LadyM, glad those migraines are letting up. I had one of those ONE time, and I hope to NEVER have another one! They are HORRIBLE! That heat is everywhere. Phoenix was already 96 this morning at 5:30! Suppose to get up to 114 today! So it will get to 100 here, no doubt.
Town and dentist for us today. Got to keep those pearly whites in good shape!
So how appropriate is this, for DOTD?
Heat Wave #2 3 oz. Orange Juice
3 oz. Pineapple Juice
1 1/4 oz. Coconut Rum
1/2 oz. Grenadine
1/2 oz. Peach Schnapps -Instructions Pour all ingredients except grenadine over ice in a parfait glass. Top with grenadine and garnish with a fresh peach slice0 -
Lori, what a neat drink! We brought home 2 btls of coconut rum from St. Thomas.....sounds like a partay to me!!! I better wait till after working in this heat wave though, or I won't ever get outside. Nice drink to look forward to! The Patsy Cline impersonator was very good, but she threw other songs in there too, one of which was "Amazing Grace". I usually love that song, but since yesterday was the anniversary of the day my late husband died, it hit me hard. There was an older guy who did a funny song he recorded, plus he did Johnny Cash songs and sounded just like him! Then to our fav Thai restaurant for a late dinner. Wasn't sure Krystal and White Castle were the same...yeah they sure are itty bitty things, I can imagine he can eat a bunch of them! Too bad the frozen ones aren't as good. Hope he has a really great birthday tomorrow!!!!!
Gail, I bet your DD will have a ball at art school! Since our schools have cut back so far on the arts, its nice to supplement with summer classes. I have a dear friend in Riverside; I was her bridesmaid a little over a yr ago. So, we flew to Vegas, stayed a few days, then drove to Riverside for a couple of days, then back to Vegas for a few....was a fun trip. A classmate from high school joined us in Vegas (from HI), and called it a "reunion"..lol. I hope you can find a PS you like...very important to end up with as good results as possible.
I'm Havin a Heat Wave......
Kathy

Taking a respite from this heat, and notice all the bar stools are EMPTY!!! OK, going outside to the pool.....looks like a lot of you are enjoying our perfect weather here at the HTL....finally found an empty float....ummm Pants will you please bring me a Heat Wave #2? On 2nd though, how about a pitcher full? Joining you all.....
Jaybird, Have you discovered any new wines? You always get to try so many different ones with your travels. Hope you and Avery are doing well!
Oops...lotta splashing going on now.....hope everyone is having a great day!

The Heat Wave sounds like a great drink, gonna have stock up on them for tomorrow and Sunday, it's supposed to get wicked hot (90's with heat index 95+) over the weekend. I wish the humidity would break, then I could stand the heat.
Today is nice and breezy, a bit cloudy and a lot more comfortable. I actually took a short walk up the street--went 500 feet and back. Not much compared to what I used to do, but it's a start!
Sadie is still with my Aunt. My family wants her to stay there until my belly incision is completely healed, but I'm not sure they realize how long that may take. At any rate, I'm not going to bring her home until the last drain is out and the 5 pound lift limit is lifted. She's just too rambunctious for me until then.

NOT hot here in Shannon! It's cold and rainy and I'm actually cold, with mostly summer-like clothes packed, and the heat in the room doesn't work. Who would have thought? Most of Europe is HOT right now. Trying to keep warm with an Aussie blend. Will check out the duty free at the airport tomorrow for some scotch! Sending cool breezes to those of you having hot flashes! lol.
Cheers!

NM, Take it easy with walking outside in this heat! Glad you are waiting to get Sadie back till you have the last drain out and have healed a bit more!
Jaybird, what is the Aussie blend...is it one you'd recommend? I would LOVE that cold weather right now!!! We worked outside for 3 hrs in the middle of the day....wondered why it looked like I had been swimming till I just saw the news tonight, and they said the heat index was 115 at that time! WHEW....no wonder I used so many paper towels wiping my face!
Pau Hana Time, girls! Still waiting for our next big party!!! HunkyD, what have you been up to?

I took my walk this morning when it was still below 80 and there was a good breeze blowing. Trust me, I don't like the heat enough to go out walking in anything over 80 degrees when the humidity is at anything higher than 50%!
Given that it will probably take at least a couple more months to heal up the belly wound I'm beginning to think I'll be going back to work before I get to bring Sadie back home. THAT is really beginning to bother me.

grrrr--my last post went poof, so will try again.....
Yaaaaay--Pool PARTAY! Can I have the blue floatie and blue water gun??? Looking forward to some refreshing fun in the pool. I know Jocks and Pants will have a fabulous buffet to snack on and Candie and Skate and the other wenches will stay busy keeping us in drinks....I can't wait!
Jaybird--I've been watching the British Open and to see the golfers blow on their hands to warm them up before they putt--can tell it is most chilly in that part of the world. Drink up and stay warm!!! NM--know you're missing Sadie, but probably a good thing for now. As soon as Sadie comes home, we'll have a Pooch Park Party for all our furkids!!!!
Chemo gals--if you're having nausea from the tx, maybe check this out....I had Adriamycin/Cytoxen by iv drip. Onc Nurse told me that their experience was that the slower the drip, the less nausea people experienced. Absolutely no scientific reserch on this subject, but I had them do the slowest drips they could--I was never nauseated (other things, yes, but not that!). My infusions could last 2-3 hours from check in to finish. Other people were in and out in less than hour. Anyway, just a thought to toss out.
I know y'all get bored with my whining about our rain.....but today, had the magical, mystical cotton-candy pink fog in the valleys. Spectacularly beautiful! By the time I found the camera and got outside, the light had shifted enough that it was just nasty old gray fog again! Don't know if I will ever get it captured in a picture, but if I ever do, will share it with you. Imagine the most vibrant, perfect rainbow you've ever seen--multiply by ten--and that's the beauty of this pink fog. DH has seen it also, so it is not a by-product of too many MLs !!!
Hope everyone has had a great TGIF day and a great week end coming up. I'm happy to have another week before the B&B gets busy......big huggggssssss to ALL

I want all the pink ones! Floatie, oozie, bikini (ha ha ha) and DRINK!
NM, again...glad you are gettinig better every day! Do you get to go visit Sadie at least?
Kathy, I wish you would hurry up and get that darn fence done, before you have heat stroke. You are nuts, being out there with 115 heat. I couldn't do it. I couldn't handle the 85+ and humidity in Hawaii!
So Jaybird, I will think of your cooler temps there when I have a flash!
Junie, if its that time of year for your pink fog, maybe you could just keep your camera close by. Seems like it doesn't last long and conditions and sun have to be just perfect.
DOTD is for that Pink Fog! We have .........PINK FLUFFY CLOUDS! How perfect is that?
(Not sure what that first pic is, but what the heck...use your imagination! Party out at the pool?)
2 ounce Bacardi white rum, 1 ounce blackcurrant cordial, 5 ounce milk
Shake ingredients together over ice and serve in chilled cocktail glasses.~~ running around like a wild woman in pink bikini with her pink water oozie~~
squirt squirt!

The pink fluffly clouds look absolutely wonderful, and so pretty to boot! I can't wait to see a pic of the pink fog, it must be amazing! Growing up on the coast of Maine I've seen lots of morning fog tinged with color, but usually yellow, gold, or orange, never seen pink.
I don't go visit Sadie, first because I can't drive yet, and second, when I talk with my Aunt on the phone Sadie picks up on my voice and then sits looking out the window at the driveway and whines for quite a while. I'm afraid that going to see her and then leaving her again would be too upsetting for her, and I know I wouldn't be able to leave without her. So I trying to be content with phone updates and the occasional picture.
Just got back from my morning walk, that make 2 days in a row and it actually felt good to be out walking! Yes, there's pulling in the belly, but not as bad as it has been. I did get a bit further today, to the 3rd driveway on my side of the road. The 2nd and 3rd driveways are only about 10 feet apart, so I opted for the 3rd one. I feel like I could do a lot more, but I know better than to push things too far too fast. Now if only this belly incision would heal up so I can go swimming in the pool when it gets hot in the afternoons. . .

wahine - hope you recover from getting over heated...I'd love to join you for a Seagrams & Coke in three more days when I'm through with round 1 chemo! How nice to see the country music - Amazing Grace always touches my heart
Lady_M - you make me giggle, I get migraines too and it seems that the zofran is being a trigger, but the zofran keeps my stomach good on this chemo. I wish there was a good cure for migraines, I've tried differenet things, but the cures were always worse than the disease. Good luck with the rad decisions and keep cool, sounds really hot there.
AStorm - so sad you had to leave you daughter, when do you get her back? Everyone sounds hot. It's still cool and sweatshirt weather on the WA coast. Hope the new foobs plan goes great for you!!
goldie - I love the Heat Wave #2 and wish it would hit here! We just aren't having a summer. DH and I are going to central WA next week sometime where it's hot and sunny, I'll be done with chemo#1 on Tues so we will probably leave sometime after that. I get two weeks off B4 chemo #2. Hope you dentist apt goes well. I've been having trouble finding a dentist I like.
NM - you're getting hot too? Wow, I guess there's one benefit of the WA coast, dang cool here. Yeah for your walk!!! Little by little, I've been gettin out for walks every day and it really helps. It's so good to hear your coming along so well. It will be nice when you get Sadie back!
junie - thanks for the chemo advice. I wonder if the reason I'm not gettin nausea is cause I'm taking the cytoxan by pills every day for two weeks. I'm thinking the dosing over time might make it easier to tolerate. I had two MF IV infusions on July 6 and July 13 and for two weeks I take cytoxan pills. Anyway I'm doing pretty good except half my IQ is gone and that's too bad cause I didn't have that much to spare. It's almost always gray and/or foggy here, but at the moment it's not raining. It can be really pretty, but I'm looking forward to some sun next week.

goldie - the pink fluffy clouds is perfect since my head is definitely there! Seems like this chemo has hit me mainly in the brain. LOL - running like a wild woman in a bikini with a pink water oozie - too cute!
I used to jog two miles a day before my dx and all this surgery, chemo, blah, blah blah...I've been walking every day and yesterday I felt like I could actually jog a little bit it I was dressed for it. If I'm feelin okay today DH says he's going to go jogging with me. It's easy to do even with half an IQ! I think I could maybe do 5 min jog, then 5 min walk...well see. Now DH is going to take me garage saling today. That's also a good half IQ activity.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy. Peace, love, health and happiness to all of you loungies! Cheeeeeeeers! Beans

Hello Ladies!!!! Sorry it's been so long since I've been on. I've been in a serious chemo fog since Wednesday and have been escaping this heat! 110 today - yuck!!!!
Lori - thank you for all the drinks. I love the Heat Wave. I could use that!
Melanie - I hope by them lowering the meds, it really helps with the chemo brain/dopey feeling. We need one good brain when we're driving around Las Vegas - LOL!!!

Beanius--you make me look like a wimp--jogging when I'm only walking about 1000 feet and back! At least I know it can be done with persistance. I've got bad knees so I don't run or jog, I stick to walking and I used to walk almost 3 miles several times a week. Hoping to get back to that level failrly soon.
kittykat--hope you're managing to keep cool--110 is outrageously hot! And I'm whining about low 90's. Actually, I just wish the humidity would go away.
0 -
NM - YOU ARE NOT A WHIMP! Are you kidding me? Do you not remember what you just went through? That took 19 hours of surgery!!!!!! You are doing great, just keep it up. I'm thinking with your temps in the 90's and the humidity....I'm sure it feels like 110.
Beans - Had to laugh at your comment about not having much IQ to share / or lose! That's why you fit so well in here!
I think I will try to stay out of Vegas, not wanting to run into Heather or Melanie....or should I say, I don't want them running into me!
Where the heck is everybody? Did I scares ya off with my pink oozie, or was it the pink bikini? Guess I'm gonna have to get some Whoop A$$ out!
Whoop Ass Ingredients:4 oz. Absolut Peppar Vodka
4 oz. Bacardi 151 Proof Rum
4 oz. Everclear
4 oz. Wild Turkey 80 Proof Bourbon InstructionsMix and drink in a pint glass. Hold on for dear life - this will kick your butt!!!0 -

Hi everyone. Too many posts to catch up on. NM, you did have a major operation like Lori said. I hope you are gaining ground each day. Bean, hope you can get your SE from the puke pills managed. Didn't they give you a puke 2 or puke 3 option? LadyM, good luck with radiation. It sounds like you gals (Kitty) in Vegas are getting somewhat radiated now with heat. Junie, hope your B&B is calm for a while. You can hang out by the pool here more. I also have been watching the British Open and noticed the cool windy conditions. AStorm, good luck on the new boobs. I love my PS also. Would be hard for me to fire him even with all the bruising he has caused me. Lori, you are a funny bunny! Kathy, maybe you could hire out to do your neighbors fence. LOL! Connie, always nice to hear from ya. Have you decided to nipple? Stanzie, hope all is well with you. Jaybird, Casinogal.....hello. Pants, bring me one of those drinks....I am going to drown someone! Better get your waterwings on! HunkyDory

kittycat - Isn't chemo fog fun?
NM - I'm a huge wimp compared to you, I was trying to impress you with my 5 min hobble/jog that anyone walking could do faster!! You're the champ in my book, man, and again it is so good to see you feeling spunky again!
goldie - how did you get that bikini picture of me? I'm so embarrassed (just kidding) that is one cute babe. Great drink choice too!
HD - Thanks for the SE well wishes. Half and IQ works for me!
Hi to everyone else and to swanseagirl I sure hope you're recovering from chemo # 1!! Let's get on to chemo # last one ever!
Hope you all have a wonderful fantastic super groovy Sunday. Love & kisses, Bean

OK, OK, I retract the wimp comment! Although all I did today was go to church and that required a 3 hour nap to recover from. I know I'm gaining, but I just want to be past this whole recovery phase. I know I will be by the time I go back to work at the end of August, but I just want to be recovered NOW!!!!
And yes, it's going to be worth every bit of misery and recovery time.

It was such a hot weekend, pretty much stayed in the house. Did a little bit outside, early in the morning before it got to be too hot. Even Darrell was in by 11am, and he never does that. But he was out in the heat and sun all day Saturday. We got up 109! So Heather, it must have been close to 120 there with the heat index!
DOTD - Cool Summer Breeze
2 Measures Russian Standard Vodka
2 Measures Cranberry Juice
2 Measures Apple Juice
1 Dash Lime Juice
0.5 Measure Elderflower Cordial
Garnish with a slice of freshly cut apple
(a "measure" is a shot)
Putting out an "AMBER ALERT" for all our missing loungies! If people dont' start showing up at this place, I'm affraid we might have to lay off some of our Tattie Tenders

Great drink! I'm certainly going to try one this afternoon. This morning, 1 month after surgery, I am blissfully sipping the first cup of coffee I've had since June 20th! It tastes sooooo good, Ethiopian Yigrachiffa, a gift from a friend for my recovery (before we knew coffee would be a no-no for a month).
I'm going over to the pool now, to find a hammock in the breeze, read a good book and chill out with a Cool Summer Breeze in hand. And I need lots of massaging and pampering, so I'm going to tie up at least 2 of the Tenders/Wenches all day today.
0 -
Interesting how come no coffee NM? But I know you are enjoying it! I'll join you by the pool and try not to talk to much, so you can enjoy your book0
-
No coffee or chocolate for 1 month because they both have caffiene, which constricts blood vessels. My PS likes to give the flaps a full month to establish circulation and to decrease the risk of losing all or part of the flap to a late complication. I also took 1 1/2 baby aspirin once a day to prevent blood clots in the flap for the same reason. I'm just hoping they'll let me start reaching above shoulder level and lift more than 5 pounds soon. Not being able to do anything is getting really, really old and frustrating.
Don't worry about talking, I'd rather gossip than read anytime. And I might even share a TT or wench with you to massage your tootsies, too!
0 -
waiting for my bucket o'beer and heading for the pool--hope Lori and NM aren't all gossiped out yet!!! But, taking along a book to read--just in case!
Boo-hoo--son called and cancelled their visit--one of the kids broke his arm and has a cast--no swimming (plus I suspect that some medical expenses ate up son's extra gas money). We'll see them soon, because we're heading up their way for a wedding, so that will be okay. Was half-way relieved that the B&B would be vacant for awhile AND get a call a few minutes ago and friends are coming TOMORROW!!! Don't think they plan to spend the night, but if so, the bed is ready!! LOL--no rest; no rest!!!
So hot and humid again today--the HTL pool looks so inviting!!! We have had such unseasonably cool summers last few years--this is hard to adjust to. One weird thing--I go out on deck in the heat of the afternoon; so many pine trees around; close my eyes and take a deep breath and smell pine resin--get a mental image of fun times in The Colo Rockies, and after a few minutes of fun memories, run for the A/C!!!! Buckets iced down; beer's cold--I'm outta here to the pool!!!! biggg huggggsssss to ALL!

Wow that drink looks great! Still recovering from my trip... really miss my daughter but she'll be home in 3 more weeks. I just sent her a silly care package full of treats, magazines and fake tattoos (it is an art school and they expressly forbid students from getting tattoo'd while there). The one who stayed home is making me bonkers!!! And my daughter's teenie weenie really misses her too and won't stop barking and whining at her bedroom door. I really need that drink right now.
No one has taken away my coffee yet. Before I went in for the mbx, I told my DD that she should bring me real coffee when she came to visit but I couldn't keep anything down for 3 days and caouldn't even stand the smell of food or coffee. Glad to hear you are enjoying a good cuppa, NM. That is a step toward full recovery!
I'm still waiting for a call from my gyno to talk about the biopsy results and also from the PS office to schedule my foobs. Way too much waiting and whining going on around here... I'm heading for the pool!

Hi all, have been off board for a week. Have been in chemo fog. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Love the cocktails.
Drinking one as we speak and enjoying the summer and mozzy's.................
Hugs ladies
Jules

Thanks NM, I enjoyed our gossip session....but we MUST keep it to ourselves! The foot massage was so wonderful. Tomorrow I want a hand massage! Junie, you keep quiet too! LOL! Sorry you are going to miss your son and sorry about the grandson having a broken arm but glad you will get to see them soon anyways for the wedding. But more company anyways???? Holy Schmoly, that is one rocking B&B!
Astorm, good to hear from you! Sorry you are missing your baby, but it will be ok. Think of what an experience it will be for her. I sure she will be so happy to get her fun care package. She will be home before you know it. And what biopsy results? And didn't you have some liver ultra sound or something? Whats going on girl? Hope the oldest one isn't driving you bonkers too bad!
I forgot to report about DH b-day. He LOVED his White Castle candles. He won't even take them out of the plastic they are wrapped in, affraid they will lose their smell! LOL.
Showing pics of my hair. My curls with just some mousse in it, and then taking the time to curl and style. Which actually takes quite awhile. I think I will go get it cut to wear it curly, it just needs some shaping but it is SOOOO much easier!
DOTD for Tuesday, because WE ARE ALL ONE OF THESE!
Classy Biotch (changed the spelling) lol Ingredients 3/4 oz. Gin
3/4 oz. Vodka
1/2 oz. Rose's Lime Juice
1/2 oz. Triple Sec
5 oz. Tonic Water Instructions Build over ice in a collins glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.0 -
I walked a quarter mile this morning and it felt GOOD! I swear the "iron girdle" feeling is less after I've taken a walk and if I keep moving around and not just sitting around. So now I've got to get back into the habit of sitting for a while, then housework for a while, then sitting for a while, etc. Gets things done without wiping me out. Thinking about a quick drive into town to get some milk and stamps, see how the driving is since I have to take myself to the big town 30 miles away for a doctor's appointment on Thursday.
Love the DOTD, and I want one just as soon as I finish my morning cup of coffee. . .
