Nope I do think you have hair gadgets covered! Oh boy if there are any construction workers who look like your picture, I'll be sure to let you all know! Might just have to take some pictures myself!

NM - thanks for the support about your dog - hope it will be the same for Liesl. Just can't even go there if it is bad!

My ex-father in law who is a lovely wonderful man just got diagnosed with BC! Poor thing - he has had a rough year already with Hep. B. and now this. He is 84 I believe and since the Hep. B he hasn't recovered very well. He found the lump himself which his doctors are pretty impressed with. It is about 2 cm. Hope it isn't bad.

Beans - love your patriotic walk get up - sounds quite festive!

I'm haveing a horrid time sleeping these days. Just can't seem to shut my brain down then if I do lots of odd pains... I can take a tinybit of a sleeping pill but then I feel horrid and exhausted the next day. I so miss estrogen...

Astorm - very sweet story. It is funny now when I heard about my father in law it made me so terribly sad for him - it seems worse, especially thinking for others, now that we know more what it is like, if that makes sense.

Gosh the yacht looks so heavenly - I'd so love some escape!

I'm sorry to make you all wonder what the surprise is, but if I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise any more! I hope you'll all find it as exciting as I do. :)

School is over the half way mark which means I'm busier than ever! The grades are keeping pace though, and that's all that matters!

Best wishes to all and keep smiling! Remember - life is too short, no matter how long it is!

All the cool hair equipment that goldie posted (and the fact that I'm giving DH a haircut today), makes me want to post this recipe...

    THE MACEDONIAN HAIRCUT

    Ingredients:

    • 1 part Black sambuca
    • 1 part Ouzo
    • 1 part Jagermeister

    Directions:

Mix in the desired size of glass. Enjoy. Sweet. Name: Derived from Greek Haircut (Ouzo+Sambuca, 2 espresso beans flaming) but with an added germanic influence. Also known as Albanian Haircut

There was no drink photo, but I found this neet pic.

NM - You were smart to avoid chemo, I still wonder if I'm right to do this...who will ever know? Anesthesia brain is real too, you must have had a lot of it during surgery so it seems like it would take a while to get out of that fog. I wanted to say again how much I enjoyed Sunday brunch and I loved the pancake!!!

goldie - I'm impressed with all your hair gadgets. I used to try to do fun stuff with my hair, but it just doesn't do anything, even when I tried perms they would just fall out.  It has a mind of it's own to do nothing interesting. Now, yesterday I do think there was more shedding in my brush...we shall see what happens...the CMF pros say to not mess with your hair much so I only brush it 2 or 3 times a day and wash gently every other day, no dryer...oh, well, if it falls out I'm all prepared thanks to you! If it falls out maybe it will grow back curly like yours so there will be fun things to do with it!!!

AStorm - I love the yacht and your sweet story. I was wondering if I could charter the yacht for our HTL party on Aug. 3. We can all board in Ocean Shores and cruise up to Seattle to kick off my 2nd round of exciting chemo cocktails.

kittycat - LOL, yes, don't lick the cat back.

junie - Sounds like you have a fun trip planned, I love tossing a few coins to the machines. I've only had the nerve to play black jack at a casino once. It was so fun and I was on a roll but then DH wanted to leave. I didn't win much, but had a lot of fun. Usually I just plan how much I'm willing to lose and consider it an entertainment expense. Hope you have fun and that Pancho will survive camp.

Stanzie - You have so much going on, no wonder some sleep problems. I'm so sorry to hear about your ex-FIL getting BC, that is so awful. I also hope Liesl is doing okay. And your house, how is that going?

Connie - I'm still on the edge of my seat...can we have a hint?

Beans - the yacht is on its way! That drink looks dangerous -- I'll take 2.

Connie - yes! yes! you must give us some clues! My mom used to do that and before you knew it, we would figure it out on our own and then had to pretend to be surprised!

Stanzie - sorry to hear about your xFIL. I am so sad for my friend -- worse than I was for myself. I just did a lot of research and got through treatment without thinking about it too much. She says that my stoic reaction to my dx has helped her be positive but I think I just saved it for when no one was around... or for a chance to unload on the idiot at a coffee shop who made a demented comment about his ex who had bc and then acted like a victim forever after. BTW, haven't seen that guy since...

Darn, Junie, I meant to catch that interview! It's probably all over the net... let me guess -- she is NOT having any more children -? And marriage is out of the question. And how many teenage daughters is she going to have in a few years? AHHH! I don't think my DH would marry me now that I have 2 dogs and 2 cats, let alone 2 teenage daughters!

A Storm - sorry your friend has to join our club!  Gosh, too much BC!  This disease truly sucks!!!

Stanzie - sorry to hear about your ex FIL.  My FIL also got BC 2 years ago.  He was dx a month before my sister.  Then I was dx 8 months after her.  It's so rare for men to get it, but it can happen.

Lori - love the hair products.  I've retired almost all my old hair products except my brush and shampoo (to wash my almost bald head).  It's nice my brush works well with wigs.  One less thing for me to buy!

Tomorrow is round 4, which means I'll be halfway done and I'll be totally done with the red devil!  YESSSS!!!!

We had a sales meeting this week here in Vegas.  Today I walked in and everyone was wearing pink shirts.  At first I thought my chemo brain missed a memo about wearing pink.  Then, one of my friends told me that they all wore pink for me (and most of my team are guys).  It was super touching and cool to see!!!

So sad hearing about all the new dx for bc....and must be so hard for the men, since it is less common and most of the support is geared towards women. AStorm, very sorry about your friend, but she is lucky to have you as you will be able to give her so much support and advice. And Stanzie, very sorry to hear about your ex FIL....I imagine your kids (if they know about it) are crushed.

Kitty, HOW AMAZING for everyone to surprise you with the pink shirts...wow...that is truly awesome! Esp for the guys to wear pink...priceless. That really shows you how much they think of you...but I had to laugh that at first you thought you "missed a memo"...LOL. YAY today is your half-way mark!!!!

Beans, what a neat drink...and so appropriate! Hope you are still having a great relaxing time at your rec place. Don't be surprised if the bus shows up, and we all pile out of it to join you there! I will be stressed till the closing tomorrow afternoon, then the final walk through next week...would LOVE to get away!!! But I am also looking forward to my Mom arriving on the 5th, so would want to get back by then.

Junie, When is your casino trip? Hope you have your puter with you so you won't miss any of our parties....lets see....the 29th of July, 3rd of Aug, 6th, 7th, 27th.....quite a busy time coming up. And I expect we will add lots more party dates as the month goes on!!! THIS TIME you need to win really, really big so you can do those other bathroom remodels! Wouldn't that be something to win the money for that. I am crossing my fingers......

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday! Our heat pump (a/c unit) froze up last night....so weird that it can be covered in ice when it is almost 100 degrees outside. Luckily DH was able to thaw it out, as it was starting to get VERY warm inside, and it cooled down where we could sleep. This makes BOTH units that have done that this summer, and they are only 1 yr old...GRRRRRRRR!

    Here's to keeping cool,

    Kathy

Well it's getting near cocktail hour over here in the mountains and I've decided to share what we're having...it's called:

The Hump Day (since it is Wed...) and since we have lots of bears and deer here, the shot glasses have animal heads on them!!!

    Ingredients:

    3/4 shot Butterscotch Schnopps

    1/4 shot Baileys Irish Cream

    Directions:

Pour Butterscotch Schnopps into a shot glass 3/4 of the way full and fill the remaining with Baileys.

    shot

AStorm - goodie, let's take the yacht. Amazing what insensitive things people can say...Way to go, kitty, half way!! And loved your pink shirt story, so sweet of them to do for you! Kathy, good luck with the closing, lets party tomorrow! Sorry about the a/c hope you stay cool.

Hope you are all having a wonderful week. Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers!

Hey, I think I am dry docked here.  Can't keep up with all the posts or get to the boat.  Sorry for all those with friends and family being diagnosed.  It is a sh!thole of a beast for sure.  Kitty, congrats on the halfway.  Bean, glad you will be able to keep your hair...that was kinda hard for me.  It was a cancer tattoo of sorts.  I like your shot glasses.  Supersize mine!  I am not even going to try and address anything else.  I am not feeling as well as I should, but that is part of working everyday when you feel 90 years old.  OK, going to write my crib sheet for tomorrows tasks, or I won't know WTF I am doing.  Chores....Hunkydory

Happy Hump Day evening!!!   Bean--your Hump Day drink combines two of my most favorite tastes in the world--even more than ML!!!   Will for sure fix me some of those!   The shot glasses look like fun--years ago when we camped, our coolie cups were funky rubber fish heads and the cans slipped into their mouths!   Fun and cute--but, not practical......fun memory blast from the past!!

Kitty--sounds like you've got a great co-worker crew!   That's got to be a "feels good" boost!   Almost to the downhill slope of chemo--hang in there!!!!

Kathy--we'll be at the casino on the 3rd, not messing with netbook for one night--will be partaying in spirit and while you all are whooping and hollaring--give a shout out to the gamblin' god to be good to me!!!

I must stop watching daytime news!   Today, learned that mouth-to-mouth CPR is out for adults--chest compression only is sufficient (blows away all those training classes I had over the years....)   Ranks right up there with learning  several years ago, that I could have killed my babies by putting them down to sleep on their STOMACHS!!!   WTF!!!!   I am getting to be too old a dog to teach new tricks to!!!

Weather forecast is for temps to climb even higher--100+ for another week.   grrrrrrrrrrrrr......

grabbing my bucket and heading to safe, sane, fun cyber pool--hope someone's out there to talk to!!!

    Hugggsssss to ALL  !!

Heather - very cool! (being half way AND the pink shirts). If I had to do chemo I would expect the entire staff to shave their heads though... it really is the least they could do. LOL  I painted my toenails "BC pink" last year in support of my bc sisters and they have been pink ever since. It is a reminder to me of all the support here on bco and of the many kindnesses I have experienced.

Junie-sounds like you've got a fun trip lined up, and mostly free to beat! I used to take vacations in Las Vegas, and enjoyed playing the penny slots but enjoyed wandering around in the places even more. I love the Venetian with the canals all through the building, complete with boats you can ride! Window shopping and people watching is great there. I'm really lucky to have an Aunt who likes to take care of my dogs when I'm away, or like now when I have drains and can't manage a rambunctious 2 year old yellow lab. But I also know of a kennel that is run my an agency that provides services to mentally challenged adults, charges a fair price and the dogs get lots of attention from the clients who work there. I heard about the no mouth-to-mouth part of CPR at my last update. We were told that research showed that many people would not do CPR on a stranger because they didn't want to do the mouth-to-mouth part, and keeping the blood moving was more important than the mouth-to-mouth part. And I remember when the "Back to Sleep" thing came out-exactly the opposite of what moms had been taught for years. It's a wonder the human race has managed to keep reproducing itself without all sorts of medical and technical interventions for all this time!

Stanzie-hope you've found out what's going on with Leisl, and that it isn't anything that can't be managed. So sorry to hear about your FIL, hope it's early and easily treated. I'm having trouble getting to sleep, too-between my mind running in circles and not being able to get comfortable. I'm trying to stay away from the xanax, it works but I don't want to get dependant. Tylenol PM isn't helping all that much. I just got a supply of melatonin and I'm hoping that will kick in soon. And I don't have any where near the level of stress you have!

Connie-no fair not giving at least ONE hint! Congrats on being half way through classes! And congrats on the good grades!

Beanius-the Macedonian Haircut sounds pretty good, but how it get that kind of a name? Imaginative, and the pic is great! I promised myself many years ago, after watching my father's life made miserable with chemo for the last year of his life that I would never submit to chemo, for any reason, unless I could get in writing a guarantee of 100% cure and 100% no side effects. But that was my choice for me-and that does not make chemo the wrong choice for you. We all make the best choice we can with the info we have at the time, DO NOT let my choice influence your choices or how you feel about them. You are doing what is right for you, I am sure. BTY-LOVE the hump day cocktail AND the animal head shot glasses! Very fun!

AStorm-I'm sorry to hear about your friend's diagnosis. And I think you gave that guy in the coffee shop exactly what he deserved. Be careful about not thinking or feeling, the emotional/spiritual part WILL catch up with you at some point. I managed to avoid it for almost 2 years, then totally lost it for a while. Now, when with friends and family, I am totally honest about my feelings, and save the stoic face for appropriate situations. And I cry a lot more now than ever before.

Kittykat-Hooray on being half-way done, and finished with the red devil! The pink shirt thing is absolutely wonderful! How kind of them to be thinking of you and show their support that way.

Wahine-excuse my ignorance, but how does an AC unit freeze up in 100 degree weather? I just don't understand how that happens, but I'm glad your DH could get things thawed out and working again! I'm praying that the closing goes well, and that source of stress goes away soon.

Good morning ladies. Not going to post too much or try to catch up as well! Of course sorry to hear of the "bad" things going on, and glad to hear about the GOOD ones!

My low life, jobless son-in-law has decided to take my daughter from Florida and move back to MI. Have her get her nanny job back and live in their guesthouse (for free) and he will work with the husband when he can. The husband has his own business, landscaping in the summer and snow plowing in the winter. But Son-in-law doesn't have a drivers liscense! Plan is to save $9000 by November and then move to St Thomas! WTF? I am not reading too good of things in St Thomas. I am sooooo pissed, had a headache all day yesterday and even had to lay down for a bit. This man has SHIT for brains! My daughter deserves so much more. She just doesn't see it. Worships the ground he walks on, and takes his word has gospel.

Taking my Hump Day drink a little late.....but have different plans for my glass. May I have the one with most horns on it please????Surprised

goldie--bring your drink on over here by the pool and hang out for a while.  It's got to be hard to watch your daughter in a situation like that, but there isn't much you can do about that I can see.  Anything you say about the low life son-in-law will just make her defend him.  Eventually she'll figure out what he's about and, hopefully, make some changes.  I'm with you, how the heck are they going to save up that much money by November on lanscaping/snowplowing income?????  Somebody is in for a rude surprise.

Oh Goldie, how heartbreaking especially as you can't do much to open your daughter's eyes to why this might not be such a great idea. Mine are stil teenages so I guess the worring and fears just don't end. Hope it works out somehow.

Kitty, How did your FIL do with treatments?

So, took beautiful Liesl for the x-ray and he said there is no fluid around the heart and it measures within normal range but on the high side. So for the moment, we are just monitoring her. I'll take her back in 6 mos. for another check up and I'm going to try and get the Dr. who I really like there to get a "second opinion". It is hard to see him as he is semi-retired. He is only a couple of years older than I am but he has a folk band which has taken off big time so he doesn't do the vet thing as much even though it is his business, guess he makes enough anyway. But I'm relieved for now that it isn't worse and so N.M. hopeing she does as well as yours did.

Ugh, didn't sleep at all the night before last as I was reading and a roach crawled up on the bed!!! Didn't go back in my room that night and tried sleeping in my son's room which just didn't work for me. Now they are doing the floors upstairs and the smell of the stain was horrendous so slept last night in the guest apt. over the garage - that didn't work as the house lights were too bright and couldn't sleep so I'm a walking zombie. Going out today to hopefully find cheap backout shades! Oh I so want to sleep! N. M. - I agree with you, I'm scared to take even things like tylenol pm regularily. But then even 1/2 of a 1/2 of a tablet makes me groggy the next day.... sigh.

Oh, my, after reading the posts today (and since DH & I just watched Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach's great old western), I'm ordering up this spicy drink to get any problems kicked off into the sunset:

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

    Ingredients:

    1 part Rye/Whiskey (Crown Royal)
    0.5 part Tabasco
    1 part Tequila (Gold)

Directions:, A large shot glass is recommended; pour it in order: 1st the Tequila (Gold), then the Tabasco and finally the Rye. Fire it down and you'll be ridin' off in the sunset!

    whiskey

(Sorry the pic came out blurry...)

In case you are interested, here is a link to photos from the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060196/

Ok, ok, here's a hint - it doesn't have anything to do with breast cancer. :)

I am so sorry to hear people not sleeping well. I have had moments like that, too. What I do, because I am also afraid of becoming addicted is to set aside about 12 hours - with my husband's support and help - take a pill and have a good, solid sleep. 12 hours usually means that I don't wake up with the hangover that often follows taking one of the pills. It usually works out well and I'm good to go for a few weeks again.

I'm very sorry to hear about all the troubles going on and am thrilled to hear about the good stuff.

Back to homework now - two week scramble is here. (last 2 weeks of classes)

    Ciao for niao,

    Connie

Oh, Lori. So sorry for your worries. I keep hoping it's going to get better but I have this sinking feeling that I will fret for the rest of my life. People keep telling me that it gets better and she should be turning the corner any day now...  Last night, about 9:30, after my family took me out for a lovely birthday dinner, DD (17) announced she was going to a party. She can't drive after 11PM (thank the Lord!) but she had it all arranged and we shouldn't worry at all because everyone her age goes out at night and their parents just go to sleep. I asked if I could talk to some of these parents cuz whatever they are on, I WANT SOME! Then she went outside to wait for her friend, whose name she has never mentioned before. Her dad went out and told her that he would need to meet whoever it was who was picking her up and WHO has a party on Wednesday night anyway. I didn't get involved because I was actually working, frantically, to rescue a client whose financial statements were a scrambled mess... There was some yelling and tears and she ended up hating us and going to bed. Happy freakin birthday to me... will it never end?

AStorm, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! So sorry we didn't know it was your birthday yesterday....and REALLY sorry it turned out to be such a downer. AAARRRGGGHHHHHHHH.......one day she will grow up....hopefully get straightened out....and will realize that she DOES treasure having you as her mom, and will start treating you MUCH BETTER!!! If its any consolation, I was a horrid teen...very arrogant....thought I knew it all....my parents had divorced, dad remarried, mom was dating...just not a fun situation. But when I graduated from hs and left to get married (sorry...I am hopeful your DD won't do that!), I finally straightened out and started having the most amazing relationship with my mom...which has lasted all these years. Hoping and praying for the best!

Lori, WOW....what a terrible situation...but what can you do? I am really surprised he wants to move to St. Thomas...it is quite expensive there. And it was dreadfully hot when we were there. Hopefully he won't be able to move her there! Sorry that your DD doesn't see him for who he is, but you know....love is blind. Lets just hope he has a change of heart....so sorry....hope you found a way to get rid of that headache (I mean the real headache, not your SIL...lol)!

HD, Hope your day went better today. Girl, don't work so darn hard!!!!!

NM, Lucky you to have a kennel that is reasonable, and how neat that they have such attentive workers, and it is providing all those jobs. About the "heat pump"....very common in the south...it is the a/c and heat unit, but works somewhat differently than what is used in the northern states. Not sure how or why, but they CAN freeze up in summer...I think our temps have been hot for so long, it just might have been overworked. I mean, I am NOT going to be hot in my own home...LOL.

Stanzie, Good idea to get a 2nd opinion for Liesl...glad that so far she seems to be doing okay, and hopefully she will be fine without anything drastic! She's such a cutie. EEECCCKKKKK a roach....sounds like Hawaii! Guess there may be a lot of that with the construction....hope you are able to sleep tonight! I didn't sleep either, but was up all night worrying about the closing, etc.

Beans, Very neat drink! Liked the theme of it too....very creative!!!

Well, had the inspection today, but the FINAL one will be after they moveout and all their stuff is gone. Seller got his pants in a wad about a few things, but darn it, at this point I am being a little assertive too. Tired of everything being only in his favor. So closing went well, and have some money in escrow which he can have AFTER I spend an hr or two checking everything out WITHOUT him there!!! Heck, we paid for the house already, I am entitled to inspect it without him there, when they move out next week...not even charging him rent. SOOOOO I had a couple of glasses of champagne to celebrate, and my parents are celebrating in Hawaii....my mom can't wait to get to see it!!!

Was supposed to have a big party here tonight, but sorry gals, I got home too late, and am TIRED! Sounds like a lot of us are not sleeping lately...how about a SLUMBER PARTY?????

    Snores,

    Kathy

So, I got my house cleaned today.  It feels so nice to have it clean.  I love it!!!  I can rest and relax this weekend while I recuperate after chemo!  :)

Happy Belated Birthday, AStorm!  I've asked the TT's to keep you supplied so you don't have to share, but I do want to share this with you:

    Goldie--THAT DRINK SOUNDS WONDERFUL!

Junie--can the bus make a stop in Bermuda?  I've been there once before but it was too cold to go swimming, always wanted to go back when it was warm enough to swim and lounge around on the beach.

kittykat--a clean home is sooooo nice, isn't it?  I'm so happy to be able to do my own housework again, even if I do have to do it a little at a time.

OOOH, I want to go back to the Greek Isles!!! That would be heavenly!

Reading about all the older teenage/young women - I know my daughter will be a handful as she already gives me a rough time. She is such a Daddy's girl and she has him wrapped around her finger. Since we are divorced I don't get any say as to how he handles things when she is with him but it will be hard. So I so feel for both of you and your daughter situations.

    Happy Belated Birthday though!!

Wahine, you had asked about my birthday this year in an email that I've been so swamped with the house haven't gotten back with you. But I'll have my kids that weekend which is nice, but I've been invited to a bring your family baby shower! So that will be fun. She has a son who is almost 11 and is remarried and having a baby - it is a boy but trying to think of something really fun and different for her. She is an artist and kind of a funky chick but such a kind gentle person so it is hard. Any brilliant ideas?

Junie - I am terrible at waiting for surprises so I'm awfully curious.... you said you'd tell when? How about today???

Wahine - good luck on the final arrangements!Ok back to going away from all the toxic house fumes...

NM, that cake looks yummy. bad girl!

Club Med, Tahiti was my last "singles" trip with a girlfriend 20 years ago! I'd love to go to the Greek isles too! Bermuda? Absolutely!

Actually, I live in one of my favorite beach towns but I need to be somewhere else for awhile. I worked until 1AM last night and past midnight the night before (even tho it was my bday). Yesterday was the day from he!! and it spilled into this morning... had to tell a client he lost $200k in Q2 when he thought he was in the black. Somehow that is probably my fault (?) or maybe I just suffer too much for my clients. Now I have a huge headache which I need to get rid of cuz I'm meeting a friend for lunch and cake and I'm *not* working today. Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I'm calling this Birthday #1 since I missed my cancerversary.
