Hey, AStorm, belated HB.  Hope you got rid of the headache.  I am sorry your birthday was filled with work.  Bless your damn heart.  Things will get better today I am sure.  Don't worry today about your clients money or your teen.  Money is just a gift from hell to make people go crazy.  Those that don't have a lot you will find to be the most sane people in the world.  Look at me....Bwahahahaha!  Enjoy!  Hunkydory

Bwahahahaha! is now officially my favorite expression. Yes I got rid of my headache -- I called the client's CPA this morning to discuss their situation (and pass the baton) and then went to double-birthday lunch with my friend. We talked for hours over several glasses of wine and then went for dessert at a favorite bakery across town. The weather here is finally beautiful and we had such a nice day I've forgotten all about my stressful week. My friend is in good spirits 4 days before her lumpectomy. Oops, I just noticed my cell phone is dead... no wonder I had such a nice day!

AStorm--dead cell phone batteries are a blessing sometimes.  So is the "off" button, which I use frequently.  I can still remember when I was unavailable during the time I was driving between home and work, when someone would have to leave a message on my answering machine and wait until I got home to talk to me.  Now I use the distracted driving laws as protection.  "Sorry I didn't pick up, there was no good place to pull over."  And you know, the world has not yet come to an end!  Glad you got rid of the headache, glad you had a good visit wth your friend, I bet it was just as good for her!

I don't have kids, but I remember my Mother cleaning my room while I was a school if she didn't like the look of it.  Anything she picked up got thrown away, or if it was too valuable to throw away (clothing, mostly) she'd come up with a list of things I had to do to earn them back.  Usually she made me wash dishes, and then she'd use every pot and pan she could making dinner.  Did you know a woman can use 3 pots and a frying pan to make mac & cheese?  She had copper bottomed cookware that had to be scrubbed and polished with every wash.  Apparently I was  a slow learner. . .

Town yesterday and movie date with hubby to see "Salt" with Angelina Jolie. Typical Angenlina movie, it was ok but I couldn't keep it straight as to whether she was a Russian Spy or US. Action was pretty good. I give 1 thumbs up and 1 thumbs down! Got home just in time, as it POURED! Which is not a good thing for us. Water just runs off here, it does not soak into the ground. Our land here is very hilly and when that water runs, it takes land with it!

Hmmmmmm.......I think it might have been some of us here that spent your clients money. Maybe we ordered a few too many??? Surprised

"Flawless cocktail" is available for exactly US $71,011.50

Ingredients in the costly cocktail include a large measure of Louis XII cognac, half a bottle of Cristal Rose champagne, some brown sugar, angostura bitters and a few flakes of 24-carat edible gold leaf.

But the real extravagance is an 11-carat white diamond ring - which can be found at the bottom of the glass. Two Tattie Tenders will be on watch as the drink is prepared and watch over the client's table until the last sip.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

     "À la vôtre/à la tienne"

Whoops sorry Junie - I did know it was Connie. I think the floor varnish is getting to me!

Love the drink - that would just be too horrible to swallow the ring!

I saw the movie "I am Love" - Amazing movie but horrifically sad ! then saw "The Kids are Alright" - I thought the acting was wonderful.

Reading the book "Olive Kittridge" very good.

Kitty, does your FIL have any side effects?

Stay cool everyone it is a little cooler here today at least at the moment....

I've been scrounging around just to see if anyone left a Flawless Cocktail sitting around....I sure would enjoy some of that 11-carat bling!!!   Hotter than hades here, with more heat on the way.   Gonna go see if anyone's still in the pool.   Looks like a good afternoon to plop myself down at the swim-up bar and try to keep cool.

Can't decide what I'm in the mood to drink--think I'll have one of everything!!!   Hopefully, when I start talking in tongues, someone will come along and keep my head above water!!!

    Happy Sunday, ALL !!!!

    goldie--the ring's all yours!

waheni--I'm grateful I got my errands done right after church, cause when I got home I fell asleep in my chair!  Hope your's go quickly.

stanzie--Maine is being blessed with a drop in temps to our usual levels (high 70's low 80's) and a significant drop in humidity.  Drops to the high 40's at night, makes for great sleeping!

junie--I think Skates has one last Flawless Cocktail hidden behind the bar in the casino.  Hmm, maybe it would be a good idea to hire a couple of lifeguards for the lounge pool, since we all seem to enjoy our adult beverages so much!

Lori - sorry I disappeared into my chemo funk.  My hubby brought me a smoothie from Jamba Juice - so yummy!  It's the only thing that's tasted good all day!  Chemo sucks!

Stanzie - my FIL gets hot flashes and the usual SE's from Tamoxifen.  He's on a bunch of other drugs, too for his heart.  He's been through quite a bit. Luckily, he's not BRCA+ and he didn't need chemo.

Astorm - I'm glad you were able to have fun and celebrate your weekend.  Even better that your cell phone was off!!  :)

Have a Sunday Funday everyone!!!  :)

Hey Wahine! You get those poochies all cleaned up? I hope everything is falling into place with your folks home. Remind me again, please, when they will be arriving.

Junie, I'll join you at the pool bar...just make sure we have plenty of buckets!

Stanzie, I hope all is going well with your home as well. Did you get any hunky contractors?

Astorm, glad you were able to have a nice afternoon with a friend, some wine and no phone calls to interrupt!

NM, reading and keeping up with you on FB....you have been one little busy bee! So glad you are feeling better and able to do more and more everyday!

Beans N Kitty, you both seem to be handling your chemo as good as can be. And Kitty, don't be apologizing. Glad you were able to get something that tasted good. BUT.......you are half way there and DONE with AC!

    So today's DOTD....... Fog Cutter

"This is delicious, but a triple-threat. You can get pretty stinking on these, no fooling."
2 oz. [light] Puerto Rican Rum (Ron Merito, Boca Chica, or Brugal)
    1 oz. Brandy
    ½ oz. Gin
    1 oz. [fresh] Orange juice
    2 oz. [fresh] Lemon juice
    ½ oz. Orgeat syrup
    Sherry wine float
Shake with cracked ice [everything but the Sherry], pour into a tall glass [14 oz. Chimney] with ice, and add Sherry wine float [½ oz. of sweet Sherry]. Serve with straws.

OOh, I have had a fog cutter before, well it is just a sip, I ordered a Scorpion. Anyway, all are sooo good.

No hunks at the house but so far no really scary dudes either so can't complain. I've been sleeping in my guest house, Thank goodness for having one but I'm feeling a bit too much like Goldilocks. One bed it too soft the other is too hard and the third one squeaks when I turn over at night. I did go out and buy darkening shades which help a bunch.

I've been making Pina Colada's lately. Never was one who even liked them but my daughter loves the virgin ones made with OJ even though I did make a mistake and give her a sip with rum now she tells everyone how much she likes rum! There goes my parenting award!

Nice to get away from the munckins and sit and relax with you all by the pool and watch the lifeguards so their thing! I can almost remember looking good in a bathing suit - opps that is probably that rum talking again....or varnish?

I need that Fog Cutter! It is really socked in here. We're having a very cool and damp summer so far. Excellent choice, Lori.

Heather - nice to see your smile when you do feel like popping in.

Forgot to turn on my PC all weekend! DD is flying home on Friday!!! 4 weeks is a long time and I have really missed her but this has been a great experience for her. Ok, I did clean her room a little bit. And tomorrow I'm painting the trim and working on a slipcover for her comfy reading chair. She sounded a little down yesterday when I talked to her on the phone. The Grands were supposed to visit her (they are about an 45-minute drive from her) but didn't. And yesterday she was supposed to go to The Getty but was not allowed to board the bus because she lost her ID. Too bad she didn't call me sooner, we could have made a rare exception and picked up a non-bc sister and all headed for The Getty. Told her the Grands haven't been well and probably didn't feel up to it (a hard sell since they are getting ready to travel to Germany). And I just don't know what to say about the bus/ID... promised to take her to Getty next time we go south. She is sending home some art this week which I can't wait to see!

Stanzie - Olive Kitteridge was my first Kindle book (Christmas). I love a story with good character development. I usually read about 40 books per year but this year I've been so busy studying I just want to give my eyes a rest. Since I drive a lot, I listen to audiobooks in my car (another reason to turn off the cell).

A big shoutout to my breast friends!

Lori, I only got Maverick washed yesterday....it was so hot, and he was such a dear, but afterwards I sat on the covered deck with him so he would be DRY before going to the cool shady spot under the trees (dirt!)....did not want to use a hair dryer on him in this heat, so it took awhile! We closed on the house last Thursday, but they have till tomorrow to vacate, so then I have to do a real detailed inspection....dreading that, but at least we will be able to get in the house we bought! My mom arrives on Thursday for 2 wks, and will finally see it, and we will try to move a lot of stuff from her townhouse. She is SOOOO excited!!! I warned her the heat indexes are high (up to 114 today), so we'll have to stay inside alot. I LOVE the Fogcutter drink...back in the day, we had a real upscale restaurant called Fogcutter, and I worked as a dinner waitress there (nursing school during the day), when I was single, in the national guard and my girls were young. Had to wear a VERY short outfit, but I had legs then....LOL. SO that brings back memories....also was the first place DH took me on our first date, a million years later!

Stanzie, I love pina coladas...funny about your DD liking the rum....and then talking about it!!! Lately I have been just using the SOBE pina colada drinks....less calories...add some good rum and it is good to go. Sorry no hunks for contractors, but at least it is getting done!!!

AStorm, Good for you, to make her that slipcover! I need to recover a sofa that has a rattan frame, but I haven't felt like tackling it yet. Sounds like you and Stanzie are our intelligent book readers...I don't read much, but my DD's do....and have thousands of books. When my oldest was still at home, and in an upstairs br, I made sure to put her bookshelves all around the room and not all in one area...thought her room would fall in...LOL. Now in her own home, she has one room as just a library....and it is jam packed. Sorry your DD's g'parents did not take the time to visit her....that sucks! I know you will be so happy to have her back home!

Kitty and Beans, keep hanging in there! Sorry you have to go through chemo....think of the day it will be all done! But then again....chemo brain won't work as an excuse....just kidding! I'm old enough to use "senior moment"....but the "moments" keep getting longer and longer...lol.

    Everyone else...take care....stay cool....drink a lot...and try to have fun!!!

    Cuttin' through the fog,

    Kathy

Fog Cutter is a perfect choice!!! Tomorrow is the start of round #2, I'll be on cytoxan pills for 2 weeks with MF infusions Aug 3 and Aug 10. I had a great time in the mountains and want to go back. We are planning to go back Aug 10 if I can get in early enuf for my tx that day. I so much enjoyed the warm weather and tons of sun. I got a builder lined up to come out and talk with us about putting up a cabin. Thanks so much for all the well wishes about chemo, "this cr&p is sh!t." (That's a quote from one of my favorite brilliant lady scientists I used to work with...she didn't say it in relation of bc or chemo, but I think it fits - tee hee).

Here's to cutting through fog! Cheers and Have a Happpppppy Day!!

I can see where the Fogcutter could be a dangerous drink--good thing there are no hangovers in the HTL!  I'm hoping the last drain can come out when I see the PS on Thursday.  I've also got to remember to eat real food sometime duirng the day--fruit salad and popcorn do not make for good nutrition or measurable blood sugars I discovered today.  Fortunately, I also found out that pizza cures such problems!

Just wanted to stop and say hi.  Bean, I love your new saying "this cr&p is sh!t."  It is true about many things.  I think I will use it for one of my passwords at work at the next expired password prompt.  Needs an Uppercase letter and a digit is all.  I need a fog cutter.  I want it in my mouth, I want it in my veins....I want it clearing up my brains.  A little Dr. Suess for ya all!  Harharharhar.....Ok, enough of that crap!   NM...I can't believe you still have a drain.  Man, I hope you lose Mr Pratt soon.  Stanzie...maybe someone can come up with a nice varnish lacquer, I mean liquor.  I hate those fumes and totally understand your sleeping in guest house.   AStorm....you will be so glad to have your daughter home.  It's wonderful that you have such a good relationship with her.  By the way...ID's are overated.  I think I had to have everything but my A$$ scanned for my gov id with the Big Brother microchip in it.  Kathy, bet you will be glad to get that house finalized.  Hang in there.  Junie, Lori, Connie, Jaybird, Dee, Casino, Kitty, all of ya....you know who ya are....a big hello!  Hugs to all....Hunkydory

Darn, Hunkydory was here and I was at work. I really do miss so much when I have to go to work... I concur with your opinion on the ID, hunky. My DD hates anything that defies logic and sometimes (often?) doesn't conform but I think she really did lose the ID. She has a love-hate relationship with rules (they're good because you know what to do but bad if they don't make sense).

NM, you are a trouper! I had major surgery when I was 10YO and had drains, and again of course with the BMX. They are no fun but you do get used to them.

Beans. good luck with round 2. We'll be thinking of you. Drop in for a good cocktail when you feel up to it.

The record for having a drain with this surgery with this PS is 10 weeks.  Monday was the beginning of week 6.  The drain can come out when it's giving less than 25 mL for 2 consecutive days.  It's currently at 35, so it probably won't come out for another week or so.  I'm hoping not to set a new record!  The biggest problem with the drain now is that the stitch pulled out of the skin last week, and I'm scared it's going to get pulled out by accident before it's ready to come out.  I've got all kinds of tape on it to hold it in place.  I'd rather have the drain than have to have a seroma drained.  Oh, well, what will be will be.

Hang in there, NM! You are going through a lot...I had one drain for 5 wks and was MISERABLE with it....and now you have had that one longer than that. Hope it won't be in much longer....I remember how it hurt to get them caught on something...hope yours will stay in until the dr says it can come out.

I'll be having the final inspection soon....sure hope all is well; that everything works; no hidden damage, etc. Its been soooooo stressful, and I still need to freshen up the townhouse for my mom's visit soon. And of course my house is a wreck!!! I will be so glad to see her, but feel so worn out right now. Been taking the 3mg(mg?)  of melatonin for about 5 nights now; I read it can take a week to work, but already it is helping me sleep through the night. Hope it is helping you others that have been having probs sleeping!

Gotta get some more champagne to have chilled for when my mom arrives!!! Anxious to see what our DOTD will be for today....I can use a pitcher-full of whatever it may be! Hope everyone stays cool....those of us battling this heat wave, especially. I am with you Junie....heat index has been up to 113-114 lately. THANK GOD for A/C!!!!!!

Still cutting through the fog (but those Fog Cutters are helping...LOL),

Astorm, I know you will be glad to have your daughter back home. Sorry she didn't get to see her grands, and that you tried to patch things up for "them". What is "the Getty".

Wahine, funny that you had to sit with Mav so he wouldn't go in the dirt. But I have to agree about using the hair dryer....that would have just been cruel! As for chemo brain.....you mean that's not what I have? It goes away, and I am just plain looney?

Beans, good luck on round 2! Hope you able to make it back to the mountains and enjoy the sunshine.

NM, love the REAL food regimen...popcorn, fruit and pizza! Sorry you are stuck with drain and certainly hope it doesn't come out! Yikes...can they put another stitch in it when you go Thursday?

HD, I don't remember that Dr Seuss! But I like it!

Well Ms Goldilocks, thanks for DOTD idea.

Today it is a Scorpion. Cocktails for all of us and a real scorpion to send up William Shatners pant leg. I am so pissed. Well you all know I was going to see my daughter in FL and they decided to move back to MI and then to St Thomas. Well I already had plane tickets and car rental for my trip in Nov. Car rental through priceline. Well, I called to see if I could get the car in MI instead. NOPE, no changes and no cancellations...so I just lose my $223.00!

    INGREDIENTS:

    • 2 parts White rum
    • 1 part Brandy
    • 1 part Lemon juice
    • 1 part Orange juice
    • 1 Orange slice
    • 1 Maraschino cherry

INSTRUCTIONS: Shake all the ingredients with cracked ice. Strain and pour into a goblet.

Weel, it seems we all either need energy or patience.  I wonder if I can translate that into a DOTD?

    How about an Excitabull:

    Ingredients:
    1 shot vodka
    1 shot peach schnapps
    1 can Red Bull
    cranberry juice

    Directions:
    Top up with cranberry juice.

Oh shoot, that is horrible! There should be some way of refunding the money. As Clark Howard, consumer guru who has a show on cable says try going up the ladder and talking to some supervisors they should be able to help you. You can also go to his website and see if he has anything more to say about Priceline - he does amazing work to help people in just such situations.

     Love the drink!!! :)

Lori, I was guessing (but could be very wrong!) that "Getty" meant Gettysburg???? Actually I was wrong about chemo-brain, as I have heard it can stay around a LONG time....so you still can use that excuse! I like your SCORPION drink, but instead of aiming it towards William Shatner, I think it should be aimed at the sorry- a$$ son-in-law! If your trip was to a neat place in FL, have you considered still going, and having it be a vacation? But I know you would rather see your DD in MI. The prob with low-rates, such as priceline, and hotels.com, etc., is that the reason you get the low rates are because they are non-cancellable. We always take that risk too, as the prices are too good not to. It sucks when it backfires though. I think you need a day of pampering and relaxation today, and asked Pants to cater to your every wish!!!!! You can even use the private cabana....and we promise not to peek! LOL. Seriously though, I hope your day goes better and things will work out!

I looked on his(clark Howard) website and Kathy is right it is is non-refundable. I also agree with her if there is any chance of going somewhere in Fla now would be a good time.... So so sorry about that horrid son -in-law. I can't imagine how helpless that must feel. You deserve something very nice and relaxing!!

    Yaaaa--Double DOTD's today!!

Lori---sorry about the rental car--I've never used PriceLine but lots of friends have and were always pleased.  Guess they had no changes of plans.   Could you hope that your dau's half-baked scheme doesn't work and she may still be in Fla in Nov?   Maybe you will need that car rental after all....

NM--I remember my drain as being about the worst part of the whole experience--know you will be glad to get rid of it!

We're off in a bit for our little casino jaunt.   It was as difficult to "pack" for a one-niter as it is for a week!!!    Send up some prayers to the gamblin god for me.   Regardless, it will be a fun little trip!   Sure hope they've got their A/C working overtime!

big hugggsssss to ALL.   Everybody have a Terrific Tuesday and a Wonderful Wednesday!!!!
