Stanzie - well you just can't be too careful. Sorry those people are giving you so much stress. My kids took public transit home one day a week a couple of years ago and I worried about it a lot. I'd talk to them before they got on the bus and call their cell phones every 20 minutes until they got home. It was a 20 minute drive but took 2 hours on the bus and then they had to walk from the bus stop to the house (steep hill, about 1/2 mile). One time someone harrassed a friend who was walking with them and they had to call the police. After that I changed my schedule so that I could pick them up.

Kathy - the older we get the harder it is to adjust to change. Hang in there, I'm sure your dad will come around. We once had neighbors who lived part time in Capitola (lovely, seaside village) and also in Fresno (don't want to offend anyone, but it is not a vacation destination). It took a couple of years for them to realize they wanted to be in Capitola fulltime. They were afraid they would miss their friends but since Capitola IS a vacation destination, they had friends and family visiting all the time.

NM - thanks for the DOTD! I need to fill my bladder for the US. They said water, but... liquid is liquid, right? And there is so much juice in that drink it looks healthy.

    DOG BEERS! LOL

NM...I agree.....what a coup that would be! My mom sure would be up for it. Just heard from my Dad though, and they found some problems with his heart, and more tests on Friday. Hard for him to go through those tests, without my mom there to be with him. He said they wouldn't prob operate since he is 93.

Having some wine.....had an early dinner. Has anyone tried a Moscato? Esp the asti moscato? I really like it, and apparently it is getting popular this year, but not sure which brands to try. Jaybird....have you tried any of moscato, and if so, which ones are good?

AStorm, Yeah, I hope my dad will come around too. But he has lived in Hawaii for amost 94 yrs, and I do understand why it would be hard for him to move. But he should realize how happy my mom would be! How did the US go today???? I hope and pray that all is well. Do let us know.

    Ciao!

Kathy - I took a world wines class last year and we covered Italian wines very breifly but I do remember liking moscato. Have you tried sparkling asti moscato? Delicious but a little sweet for me. According to my notes, Canelli (village in Piedmont) is famous for it so usually good quality. I belong to a wine club and one of this month's wines is a Moscato Giallo from Alto Adige but I haven't picked it up yet... I'll keep you posted!

AStorm--GREAT NEWS!!!  So happy for you!  Good for the tech!

KittyKat--Here's wishing you an uneventful treatment cycle!  Be sure to stop in and let us know how it goes.

It's a beautiful morning here, wet from rain and dew, a bit misty/foggy but much cooler.  Hopefully the humidity will be lower today, since I need to go out and find some clothes that fit.  Such a horrible problem I have--very little of my clothing fits since I've lost weight from surgery.  The PS took the entire fat roll that used to hang down in front, and now I need belts and suspendeds to keep my pants up!

Hmm, let me think about a drink for today. . . .

How about a good drink for a shopper's tea break:

    Earl Grey Martini

    Ingredients

    * 1 teaspoon Earl Grey tea leaves
    * 2 (1.5 fluid ounce) jiggers gin
    * white sugar, for rimming
    * 1 wedge lemon
    * 1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger fresh lemon juice
    * 2 fluid ounces simple syrup

    Directions

    1. Sprinkle the tea leaves over the gin in a small glass, and set aside to steep for 2 hours.
    2. Pour 1/4 to 1/2 inch of white sugar onto a small, shallow plate. Moisten the rims of 2 martini glasses with a wedge of lemon, dip the moistened glasses into the sugar; set aside.
    3. Strain the infused gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker over ice. Cover, and shake until the outside of the shaker has frosted. Strain into the rimmed glasses to serve.

Junie, I hope that squeeze went ok with you. Love love love the Dog Beers! I will join for 1 as well.

NM, you are moving right along girl! Glad you have lost weight, but sorry for the way it had to come off. Are you on tamox or arimidex or anything? I hope you are able to keep it off.

Gail, don't ya just love those techs that let out with information. When they don't, then I automatically start to worry. But at least you can rest easy until you see the doc.

Stanzie, how are things going with the bus issue?

Heather, I think you may find you are still just as tired maybe with Taxol, but I don't think you will feel as sick. At least I didn't. Seems like I didn't have that nasty metallic taset either, in my mouth. However, and this is just me...might not happen to you, everyone is different. The nuelasta shot really made the muscles in my legs hurt for about 3 days. Called them jelly legs, sometimes if felt as if they were going to give out on me. But after today, only 3 more to go! It is a longer infusion, and whatever pre meds I got, it wiped me out! (I think benedryl) Good luck!

Kathy, I hope your dad comes around and will realize that he would be better off here, especially because of his health. He has been there all his life, his friends are there....etc.

Seems to be quite toasty out for most of us. Hope everyone can stay cool. Grabbing my "tea" and heading to the beach swing!

In Dog Beers I've Only Had One Black Adult T-shirt Tee

"Our Lager Which Art In Barrels, Hallowed Be Thy Drink. Thy will be drunk, And I will be drunk, At Home as in the Tavern. Lori--effin' fabulous--that be THE shirt!!!!   I've got to memorize that version of the prayer--is it titled, "The Sot's Prayer" by any chance??!!

The big squeeze has been rescheduled; problems with the machine.  Luckily, they caught me before we left the house--it's a 2 1/2 r/t drive.   So, another week to stress out.  Gonna grab me some tea and a couple dog beers and heading to the pool for a massage.

OMG LMAO at that, Lori! The T-shirt is sooooo cool...glad Junie clued us in to that slogan, and you found the visual. Love, love, love, the beer take on the lord's prayer...although I adore the Lord's Prayer, this one is just in fun,and I thought it was cute!

NM, Well, I think you are fortunate to be able to buy SMALLER clothes! I wish I could have gotten my PS to do some lipo, but he doesn't think it should be included in the reconstuction, so I lost out on that one! Didn't get the tummy tuck either. I do like my new boobs though, so that is one "plus" to this whole journey. I have an eating plan I like (when I do it) and a treadmill in the a/c that I like (when I do it)....the problem is....drum roll....getting me to do it!!!! LOL. I would love to lose a few pounds..... Good luck with your shopping trip...if you have a Kohls nearby they have a sale, w/ 15-30% off, depending on which code you get...in addition to other markdowns. I found a Dyson in their ad...from about $450 down to $340 or so, plus with the 30% off, will be around $240. My mom tried mine and loves it, so we'll try to get there later today to get her one. Have a window estimate guy coming out today, King bed head/foot coming tomorrow...movers doing the heavy stuff on Monday, and K mattress set coming next Wed. We have a lot to move before then, as I want to move all that we can safely move, b4 the movers do the really heavy stuff. We have had workers here for 3 days on our chimney (5 guys)...hope they finish up soon. This is funny....esp for HunkyD,junie,Lori, and Dee...who went through our squirrel episode in the attic all last year. The workers found 2 deceased squirrels in the soffit! And here I thought it was behind the tons of stuff I have in there!!!! SO glad to get those critters outta there!!!!!

Hope everyone has a great day. At least 2 more days here with 100+ temps, then it should be in the low 90's Sunday...will feel like a cold front coming in...LOL. Joining junie with heat indexes well over 100...been hard moving my mom's stuff....don't know how my mom holds up so well in this.

Our Lager which art in barrels.......BARMEN!

AStorm, Yes, it is the sparking asti moscato that I tried and loved it! I do like sweet wines, and love ice wines from the Niagara Falls area. If you get to try that other moscato, let me know how you like it! Meanwhile, I will try to get to a store and pick up a sparking asti moscato.

    Cheers!

NM -- one for the teetotalers! Yeah, it's grey here too. Glad you are recovering so well.

Lori -- do arimidex and tamox make you gain weight (ahhh). I've battled weight gain all my life and I'm on tamoxifen now (about a year) and gained 5 lbs - right around the middle so it looks like beer gut. Might be switching to arimidex and worried about more weight gain as I can't seem to lose the 5# (at least, not without giving up drinking and eating).

    Good morning!

Almost done school, then I can start tackling the projects that have been on the back burner for way too long! Some work today and a Dr appt for my husband and that should be it until the marks come in.

Funny you should be talking about Tamoxifen and Arimidex and weight gain. I was on Tam for about 6 months and then had a hysterectomy so they switched me to Arim. I have gained wait since then (about 5 lbs) even though my stomach doesn't let me eat much or any bad things. It's very frustrating. I had lost 50 lbs with the colon cancer and have been thrilled that I've kept it all off. Now I'm up 10 lbs. in total. *sigh* The PS didn't change my weight much, either.

Ok, enough grousing. At least some of my sex drive has returned!

    ciao for niao,

    Connie

No, I actually don't drink at all anymore, it hurts my stomach and I can't afford the calories. So I do it vicariously through others. Maybe I should try drinking to see if it helps!

Yeah, mostly HTL cocktails for me too. They are calorie-free and don't give you a hangover. I still believe in a glass of red wine with dinner though. I think champagne is good for the libido but it should be real, French champagne. Remember, if you "work off" the calories they don't count!

Goldie-I've been on arimidex for almost 3 years now. I can lose weight if I pay attention to what I eat and keep my activity level up. Not going to say exercise since I hate exercise. "We are given only so many heartbeats in our lives. I'm not wasting any of mine on exercise." Can't remember where I saw that saying, but I like it. The "prayer" is hilarious!!!

Junie-glad they caught you before you left home! When I was getting rads there would be at least once a week that I would drive the hour to the hospital and find out the machine was "broken" and have to go back later in the day. I hated that.

Waheni-I didn't get any lipo, but a tummy tuck effect is a bene of DIEP reconstruction. There is a Kohls nearby, I'll have to check them out tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.

AStorm-both tamoxifen and arimidex are known for causing weight gain. It's sort of the same weight gain you get with menopause only more so and goes on for 5 years. I've heard that women can get the weight off after they are done with these drugs, so the key seems to be not gaining too much rather than trying to lose it.

I've learnd not to predict how my life is going these days!  I went in to the onco's office this morning, expecting dose dense Taxol.  After last week's meltdown at the onco's office from being tired, stressed and having low counts... my onco decided to switch me to the weekly Taxol treatments (12 total).  I hope I have minimal side effects.  I'm trying to find out from other BC girls here if they had the 12x Taxol treatment.  Also, maybe it'll be easier for me to go to my sister's wedding.

I hope everyone had a fun evening.  Chairs!!!

Junie, I don't know if that is called "Sots Prayer" or not. I just happened upon it while looking for the shirt. Already talked to you about your mamo. And yes Kathy, all in fun with that prayer. Certainly not to knock Our Lords Prayer. I even feel funny calling it a prayer! Kathy, you and mom are SOOOO busy! 2 dead squirrels? Oh my.......didn't that stink at one time? Well I hope that was all of them, and they are all gone and out of your attack. Connie congrats on almost being done with school, we will have to have a graduation party for you! Astorm.....HA! When I moved to AZ in 2000, I weighed 135, I was 40. Over the next 10 years I put on 10 lbs, putting me at 145. Which was still ok. I am 5' 9", so no big deal. I could still wear a bikini at age 49. Now, since starting the arimidex, I fluxuate between 162 and 165! So depending on where I am, you  could say I gained 20 lbs. My onc told me to not even try to lose it, it won't come off. He said when I am done with the arimidex, it should just come off on its own. I CANT WAIT! I have not change eating habits. In fact, I usually only eat once a day. Have been like that for most of my adult life. It has also robbed me of any sexual wants and needs. ALL libido GONE. I'll leave it at that, don't want to divuldge in TMI...lol. NM, I am so with you on the exercise thing. I wish I did like it. I wish I were addicted to it. But it just isn't there! Have fun shopping. I have had to buy all new clothes, unfortunately, mine all had to be larger. But I was able to give most of my jeans and things to my daughter. Heather, 12 weekly taxol? Wow! Just saying "12" makes it seem longer. I wonder if its just as strong as taxol treatments that are done every 2 or 3 weeks. None the less....you will get there! Think I'll grab my wedding belle, a floatie and head for the pool.

The pictures are just too amazing - all of them - I can not begin to imagine how you find such things! Just hilarious!

I think having weight gain with the meds and everything you all are going through just adds too much insult to injury - really not right at all.

I too detest exercise however with having M.S. I do know it helps me tremendously it is just doing it. I have a trainer who is wonderful but since the cancer and then summer with the kids out of school I haven't gone back so I guess now is the time. Sooo much harder now that it has been so long. I did go out and buy a rebounder- one of those trampoline, small with a bar. Supposedly easier on joints. So I put it in my basement as I thought do it while the kids are watching a movie or playing games. Well, ooops forgot the ceiling is really low and when you bounce on a trampoline..... I kinda feel like that ol'squirrel there...

So, my daughter is taking a pre-school study class and I'm walking her to school (end of the street) with Liesl - she is so happy to be out and about. Well, I lost my balance (not unusual ) but fell on Liesl!!! I think I steped on her neck! Somehow the leash came off and she starts running home. Took what seemed like years to catch her and she wouldn't let me pick her up. I hope she is OK .... Anyway, so I drop my daughter off and walk back and I'm almost home and then think oh shoot where are my key? I must have dropped them when I fell. So with all the workmen they put a lockbox on so I got in with that key and woke my son up to go back and help me look for keys. He gets dressed we check out Liesl again and are about out the door and he says - Mom look here are your keys! I didn't even take them. This isn't the best way to start the day.... hopeing things get better.

On a bright note - they painted the downstairs ceiling today!!! I went with a very very very pale green and I think I love it! Later today they will do the floors and the smell will chase us out again but soon soon they will be done!

Hope the chemo apts get better for everyone. No more squirrels or rodent creatures and everyone loses 10 lbs just because clothes fit better!!!!

Lori - you are so tall, a normal person probably can't notice the weight change.  I watch my weight pretty well, but gained 10-15 lbs over the past year.  I took off 5 when I was re-diagnosed with BC and have lost 5 more on chemo.  I'm also 5'5", so any weight is noticable on me.  :(  My sister's weight really fluctuated with chemo.  She dropped 25 lbs on chemo (had a lot of nausea) and then gained it all back plus another 20 lbs (she's on Tamoxifen).  She was very discouraged by this and delayed trying on wedding dresses until she dropped some weight.  She's 5'7", so she's a bit taller than me.  I'm hoping I can drop another 5 lbs before her wedding, but I'll be okay at my current weight.

By the way, my weekly Taxol treatments are 1/3 the dose of what I would get if it was dose dense.  So, I'll be getting the same amount of Taxol, it's just spread out more.  If I feel better, I will be happy with that!  :)

Kittycat - I read your post on the 8th and have been thinking good thoughts for you. I'm glad you are taking time off after chemo! I so hope your chemo switch goes better!!!!! I would drink for you, but I can't drink right now either. But for both of us this is just a temporary problem!!

Wahine - 5 more days of cytoxan pills then I get to party for two weeks!! I'm jealous of your wine drinking!! Can't say I've tried Moscato or asti moscato but I'd like to for sure. So glad to hear you and your mom are having fun moving her in, you are so lucky to have her around and doing so well at 90. I've never gotten over the loss of my mom. Mom's are the best!! We used to have so much fun shopping and just hanging out. So glad you can enjoy her!! Hope your back is feeling better from all the moving and hope all the repairs go smoothly. Also hope your dad will visit and feel good about making the move one of these days.

NM - Excellent info on chemo, it does take a huge amount of energy to recover from each treatment. I feel lucky to be self employed in a recession during this treatment. I can work when I feel like it and the work load is really light for the most part. Just hope I'll get more work (and more $$) when my treatment is over. Darn cancer and darn recession. I wonder if the cancer rate has gone up since the recession started??? Your Grey Sky drink was perfect for my stay at the coast. We just haven't gotten a summer there at all. Also love the Absolut Stress drink! Perfect for all that goes with this sh!tty problem!! And Earl Grey Martini sounds perfect this morning sounds like the tea might give my energy level a kick and, let's go shopping for pretty clothes that fit and flatter!!! I had gotten kind of chunky, while my dear old dad was going downhill, and over a year and a half took off 20 lbs, most of my clothes are too baggy. I'm a jeans and t-shirt gal anymore, but let's go shopping for sexy clothes!! How ‘bout Victoria's Secret?

    victoria secret

Also a great drink for Ms Kitty Wedding Belle Cocktail!!

AStorm - I hope your friend gets through rads okay. I'm starting rads in Nov. and have heard you get progressively tired but the treatments are fast and painless. Glad your US went well and good news! Hurray! I totally relate to not having specialist in a small town. At least you are in CA. That's why I take the crazy train I'm on to Seattle because the small town radiologist couldn't even see a problem in my mamo that the specialist in Seattle saw right off! LOL about Fresno - tee hee! So funny, I'd love to lose 5 lb, 10 would put me about right. So that's why I'm out walking every day and eating lots of salads...

Stanzie - I didn't realize you had M.S. That definitely will cause fatigue. I hate having to stop and rest, I have so many things I want to do each day and then all of a sudden I just crash. I've noticed I start out really energetic and happy, then I get a little cranky, then if I start to cry I know it's time for a nappy-poo. All the bus schedule problems and school paperwork and your ex's surgery sounds very stressful. That driver's attitude sounds just awful. I would be so upset!! I like Wahine's advice to talk to the driver's supervisor. That just sounds unbearable!

Goldie - glad to see you back and glad you had a great time! I am doing well with my treatments except I got really constipated and it's been a problem for 3 days. The zofran (Puke 1) I think is the main culprit, then we drove back and forth to the coast for tx and I just got irregular. It suuuuuuuucks!! My oncologist suggested half the zofran dose to see if that keeps puke away, so far so good. And my oncologist nurse said to just take sennekot every day while I'm on this crapola. 5 more days to finish round #2. I've been so hoping Ms Kitty has an easier time this time! She's been through so much. Yes, HD dropped in a line about surgery, but with no details, so I'm just hoping the very very very best for her. So good to hear from you goldie! Hurray on a perfect doc appt!! You sound really good and happy!! LOL - love the dog beer T and the pra-yer that goes with it - so funny!! LOL again at the squirrel pic, that is hilarious!!

Junie - Sorry to hear it's so hot there. Yucko on mammo stress. I am so hoping for the best. I have to get mine after chemo and already dread that. My boobs have been biopsied and lumpectomied and squished in those mamo machines so much!! They were so swollen and bruised all across my chest and they would just do more smashing them in those machines. It was torture. Finally they are looking more normal, not swollen but with scars...and I don't want anyone to squish them or hurt them again. Normally mamos aren't that bad, but during all the diagnosis and biopsies and placing wires for lumpectomies I was put through the ringer with mamos! I will need a stiff drink or a lot of xanax to get back for another mamo. Hope I'm not scaring you cause all my crap had to do with diagnosis and getting ready for surgery, normal mamos are a breeze. I just hope it goes smoothly for you and great results!! Love the dog beer T-shirt slogan, so cute and I hope you enjoyed a good brew by the pool.

Connie - hurray for sex drive!!! And glad school is nearly done.

I'm back in the mountains and have been calling builders to put up a cabin for us here. Haven't had much luck, but I'm still trying. Still trying to take a regular poop too.

Beans, You have the cutest avatar!! Good luck getting a builder up there to put up a cabin for you. It is SO hard getting good workers. We had 5 guys working on rebuilding our chimney for 4 days this week...they just finished. With these dangerous temps, we did take out lots of bottled water, and juice, and it looks like they did a great job.Was so afraid one would fall, as that seems to be our luck, with this house. We have lots more to get done here, but will wait for cooler temps. I'm so sorry you have lost your mom, and sorry for other gals here who have also lost their moms. I feel very lucky to still have her with me, and just dread "that" day, when it comes. She moved a couple of carloads b4 I got there today, but the new K bed was delivered and is GORGEOUS...the bedroom is huge, about 24' long, so she will be able to fit lots of her other furniture in there. In a bit, DH and I will try to take apart the Q bed and set it up there b4 the movers come to move the heavy stuff, plus whatever else we can manage to move. She is already dreading going back to the house in Hawaii....LOL....I know she will miss this place! She returns next Thurs. Sorry for all the crapola you have been thru with bc....it really does suck, but nice that we have each other here for support!!!

Lori, What an appropriate pic!!! Luckily I didn't have to see the critters....they just told us. Actually I drink Jack & Diet Coke when I'm out, but prefer Seagrams7 & Diet. Amazing how you got the bottle in the pic though! You are very creative with the pics, and I sure do enjoy what you come up with!

I am NOT going to discuss weight here in this lounge....I HATE how much I have gained....so I won't comment much about that...LOL. I think menopause had a lot to do with mine, plus stress. 'Nuff said! You all can talk about it though!!!

Stanzie, How totally scary about falling onto Liesl...esp when it may have been her neck. I hope she is okay!!!! Funny about setting the small trampoline thing in the low-ceiling basement! Good intentions though, right? That pale green ceiling sounds pretty!!! My mom's new bedroom is a khaki green, but looks very soft, and the uppermost part of the treyed ceiling has the green there too, and it looks really pretty. I prob would not have thought of that color, esp on the ceiling, but I really like it. I am so glad the workers are moving right along with those repairs inside your house! I know you will be glad to have that all behind you, and no more strong odors from all the refinishing. Let us know how Liesl is!!!

NM, Did you get to go clothes shopping today? That was a pretty pic that Beans posted from VS! I didn't check the Kohls clothes, but my mom got the last Dyson, so I had to order mine, then the delivery guy saw hers today, and may order one for his wife! Funny. Wish I could have gotten the "tummy tuck", but you went through a hard procedure for that.....I considered having Diep, but the PS I chose had not done very many of those, so I went with what he had done the most work in. I have the utmost respect for you and others who have had that done!!! I do hope you found some nice new clothes, and had fun shopping!

Junie, when is the mammo resched for? I hope and pray the results are very, very good!!! I have to say, I do not miss those! Ouch, they sure can squish them flatter than I ever thought possible. DH is sooooo wanting to go to Tunica, but not sure if we (or he) can fit it in. Cannot believe we leave for OZ in less than 3 wks! And a lot happening betwn now and then. Where oh where does time go? I told DH today that "retired" must just mean you are "really tired"!

    Barmen!

The count so far is 2 pair of  dress pants, 3 skirts, 4 blouses, 1 cami, 1 hooded sweatshirt, 1 pair of jeans that fit like a glove and 1 horrendous backache.  Still have $$ left over so I'll just have to do some more shopping soon, but right now I need to stop moving and get some tylenol into my system. Had fun finding out that I don't need to look at the 2X and 3X clothes, can now look in the Large and X-large, with the occasional 1X.  Pant size down to 18 from 22.  I also realized just how much of my belly has no feeling!  That part is a bit odd, but doesn't bother me at all.  I just have to remeber to 1) wear a belt or 2) check and make sure my pants aren't falling off periodically!   Now that I'm pretty well set for work/school I can get some fun stuff--maybe I will go to Victoria's Secret and see if I can find anything there!  I do still need a little black dress, after all.

I am so envious of the clothes buying success! I have had very little luck in finding clothes that fit that I like that I can afford. But, I keep looking - they'll be there sooner or later!

So, day one of my vacation - deep cleaned 1/2 the kitchen and started on the bathroom plus 3 loads of laundry (so far). Sheesh, some vacation!

I attribute the return of my libido (and don't get me wrong, it's not completely back) to the chemo finally getting out of my system. There are better days than others - the days that I feel a lot of pain aren't so good for the libido. Hopefully after the next surgery and the physio therapy that I'm finally going to start getting, it will be better!

    Onward and back to work!

Hi Ladies.  Had some reading to catch up on and now I don't know what I remember.  Sooooo, I will just say howdy to all.  I am pretty sure Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, and all the other diet companies own stock in Tamoxifen and the AI's.  I also gained weight the minute I started popping that little white pill.  Bean, you make me laugh.  I know the pooping can be quite problematic.  I have certainly taken my share of those little orange pills (Senekot-S) for sure.  Hope the Puke #1at 0.5 pill works for you also.  NM, glad you are getting some new wardrobe additions.  I am also a teeshirt and jeans gal.  Anyway, I hope you get set and ready for work though, and hope you get your furry friend back home also.  Now, I must scatter amongst the drunks, I heard someone was trying to train a squirrel to waterski in the pool again!  Hugs to all!  TGTIF!  Hunkydory
