how about drinking?

Congratulations, AStorm! Good going on the exam! Sorry about losing the client, though. Sadie loves to ride, to. Yesterday on the way home she would get up every so often and lick my ear while wagging her tail enthusiastically, so I think she remembers me!
Junie-Got Pancho's big slurpy kiss, and the two of them are off sniffing, playing and munching. Pancho is sooo sweet to bring a welcome home bag of goodies! I'm ready for the pool, just so long as it's a spot where I can see the doggie park. I've had a lot of luck with crock pot cooking, most recipes transfer pretty well, just use a little les liquid and watch in case you need to add some back in, but usually crock pot cooking needs less liquid.
Stanzie-so glad you got the assistant thing straightened out! Gotta wonder if they were depending on your not questioning the bill. They ought to know better when dealing with bc survivors-we check EVERYTHING! I hope your dishes survived the cleaners work intact.
Wahine-Sadie seems to remember home, at least she knew right where to go for food and water and to snitch a rawhide chewy! She's rarely more than 6 inches away from me, and took up most of the bed last night. The house finally feels right again, even if the living room floor is covered with doggy toy stuffing.
Beanie-I couldn't resist using the dog dish for the drink yesterday. It just seemed right somehow. Although I don't blame anyone for putting theirs in a more conventional glass!
Sadie and I are both very happy campers this morning. It's so wonderful having her home again. That sounds like a great DOTD. . .

Awwwww perfect drink NM! So glad your home is back to normal, with Sadie there...you both sound like you are on cloud nine! She's such a sweetie, and glad she remembered you so well...after all you rescued her and gave her such love b4 your surgery. Purrrfect DOTD....and cute doggie pic! So nice of Pancho to bring Sadie those goodies....junie is so thoughtful to think of that!
AStorm, very glad to hear you passed your exam with flying colors...and I will definately join you if there is any wine left! That sucks that your STUPID client had to cut costs, and you lost their acct. Hope this recession ends soon....and that everyone can keep their heads above water. What is "OSH" that gives you free ivy? My DH got me an orchid a few yrs ago that bloomed over and over, and each time it bloomed it lasted almost forever! Then, on a trip, I didn't give it enough water, and lost it...that was STUPID of me...I usually use those glass globes, but sometimes they don't work right. (I am sure it is STUPID me not setting it up right at times...lol).
TGIF for all you working gals....and wishing a happy upcoming weekend to all. Heat has subsided a bit, but still steamy hot. Laughed at the diff in temps for all of us here on this thread...that some of us can leave dogs in the car for a quick dinner, and others would not be able to leave them in the car for a minute, as it heats up too quickly! Taking Maverick and Molly to join Sadie and Pancho, and any other furbabies that show up, at the doggie park. Then joining you gals at the pool! (Sorry I am on the teeny netbook and can't go back easily to see the prev page...I read everything but then can't remember all to comment on when I start writing...lol). But I love all of you!
ChEARS, Chairs, and BARMEN!!!!

Hi Loungie Gals...this is just an aside to respond to a ? goldie had some time back...I posted this elsewhere, but goldie asked why so many Pacific Northwesties get STUPID bc. I don't know the answer, but we have high rates in WA, according to CDC. The highest rates are in Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois, Kansas, Maine (sorry NM), Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington. Here is the link: http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/breast/statistics/state.htm. (I don't mean to be US centric but this is the info from CDC). One article I read suggested high WA rates may be linked to vit D deficiency, as we don't get as much sun, and that WA women tend to have their first children at and older age. Here is the link to that 2004 article...in case anyone is interested ;-) http://www.seattlewomanmagazine.com/articles/october04-1.htm I'm from CA (where I used to have very blond hair and a sun tan) and have been in WA for nearly 5 years (where I'm now very dishwater blond bordering light brown and pasty white). I have my suspicions for myself that it's a combo of fam hx, too much estrogen, too little vit D, and too much body fat...Okay, enuf STUPID GEEKY statistics...let's have some HAPPY CAMPER!!
GIGANTIC CONGRATULATIONS to AStorm for passing the exam. And my opinion is it is STUPID to cost cut your accountant because they save so much money!!! That is the wrong place to cut, I'm sorry you are losing clients. This economy sucks and I'm praying it gets better.

I had treatment yesterday. 2/4 taxol, was very anxious at first.. Had nice conversation with onc.. Explaining more in details about my treatment and my options.. He informed me that the next two were up to me if I wanted to continue or stop.. He understood all my concerns and told me that having all three completed the A/C and Taxol only increases my chances of it not returning by three percent.. Since I already had 4 of A/C and two of taxol then I have increased my chances by 1 1/2 percent..we decided not to do the Neulasta shot this week and see how my body feels.. He also suggested that I could come once a week for treatment but that would extend me out 8 weeks instead of the four.. If I continue I will be completely done on September 16. If I return on September 2 and my blood count is not up then we will have to wait another week.. Which might not be as effective..
He stopped the Neulasta because it causes bone pain along with Taxol, so I was in double the pain.. Hopefully I won't be in much with out the Neulasta.. I am going to think ahead and start with the Tylenol and Motrin.. AND MAYBE A SHOT OF SOMETHING TO TOP IT ALL OFF. ANY SUGGESTIONS..

Darn Vicky, sorry to hear of so much pain. The worst pain I've ever had was when I had a kidney stone and Advil (ibuprophen) worked on that. On my chemo doc says not to use ibuprophen, only tylenol. I so hope one of those will work, otherwise keep calling your doc for a solution...wishing you the best with it...

Thanks, NM. I'm trying to be a Happy Camper. Technically I am still on vacation today. It was so nice to hear about Sadie's homecoming. Before I had a family I used to live with an Australian Cattledog (Queenslund Heeler). There was only one dog and one person so we were very close. I'd pass on an "iffy" date anytime to spend the evening at home with my dog. Don't know if I'll ever had that kind of connection with a dog again.
Beanie -- my ultrasound tech ventured that women in California have a higher rate of bc because we drink wine. I told her that I know women with bc who don't drink wine and I think it is the STUPID cars and technology. I lived in silicon valley for many years. If I had to choose between my cell phone and my wine you guys know I'd still be at the pool with that magnum! My mom NEVER drank anything -- not cocktails or wine and she got bc. Frankly I'm sick of hearing that women should stop drinking wine. We are exposed to all kinds of unnatural crap in the environment, including second-hand smoke and car emissions, but society doesn't want to make the tough choices. Just blame the bc victim -- it is always easier to heap the responsibility onto the victim than it is to actually find the root causes and maybe make some sacrifices as a society.
OSH is Orchard Suplly Hardware. Started out as a local company, not sure how far they got in their expansion before Home Depot came along. Anyway, they have a plant guarantee -- if it dies you bring it back and the replace it. I usually replace the plant a couple of times and then feel obligated to buy one so I don't put them out of business.
0 -
LOL AStorm, about having them guarantee the ivy! I've taken shrubs back when they died, but never thought of regular plants! We did have some die this yr, but too busy to find the receipts. Good for you!
Beans, That map is eye-opening. Usually AL and MS are at the top of anything bad, but not this time. In fact, MS is one of the lowest, with AL not far behind. Not surprised that HI has low rates, maybe cause the healthy lifestyle, vit D, no pollution (blows away w/ tradewinds). I have always felt that mine was caused by stress, as I had an overload of stress a couple of yrs b4 my dx. No one in my family has/or had bc. Also, I think cause I was always a yo-yo dieter. Who knows??? Just MHO anyway, but for me it seems to make sense. Oh, and hopefully it ISN'T the drinking!!! Maybe the high-fat diets in the South are protecting them somewhat, but I doubt it! Very strange.
ALMOST pau hana time...I am so ready for a drink! Been working at both my mom's homes and ignoring mine. *Starting* to think about maybe getting some stuff together for OZ...b4 my DD and family get here next wk. Junie, Hope you're all ready for your weekend company, and those crock pot dishes will work out well. IF not, oh well, just give them another drink...LOL. But NO ice cream scoops....*inside joke* Hee Hee.
Jocks, Pants, where are you? Fixing up our happy hour drinks? I see the Wenches are straightening out the lounges and getting everything ready so we can PARTAY tonight!!! Please tell me that is NOT the limbo stick I see!!!!!

Maine has the highest cancer rate per capita of any state in the union. Not just bc, but all cancers, even some of the "rare" ones like pancreatic, esophageal and stomach cancers. My Dad and Grandfather died of stomach cancer, an aunt died of pancreatic cancer, and I have Barrett's Esophagus from GERD that puts me at risk for esophageal cancer. I was surprised to get bc, always thought I'd die of stomach or esophageal cancer. Still might, I suppose. Got to have a colonoscopy now that I'm 51, going to have the upper endoscopy at the same time. Not looking forward to the fight to keep things off the left arm and not to use fentanyl, everyone's favorite drug that I'm allergic to. Already planning my strategy--ask for an office appointment with the doc BEFORE the procedure, if I can't get that then no signing of papers, changing clothes or letting them start an IV until AFTER I meet and talk with the doc. Then they are just going to have to wait 60 minutes for the EMLA cream to work before starting the IV. MY PCP gave me script for EMLA at my physical the other day. I'm really going to mess with their schedule, but I'm going to get what I need wether they like it or not.
Sorry for the rant, I really do not want to have to do these tests and am a bit cranky about the whole thing. Time to go play with Sadie again, I think!

Wahine – LOL! Limbo stick!! Oh boy, let’s do PARTAY!! After all it’s Friday, getting toward Zombie Stupid Hour and I’m not the only one who didn’t sleep too well. I hope you slept better last night!
Stanzie – I’m glad I’m not the only one who names everything..I think I miss having pets or something. That is so funny the housekeeper watered your fake plant, that’s a good one!! Glad you got out of that stupid insurance bill and sounds like your house is coming together!
Junie – I love reading about Pancho, he sounds so cute. Hope your weather cools off there soon, great idea to use the crock instead of the oven. ChEaars to you!
AStorm – don’t worry about missing wine at the pool, I’m heading there again right now!!! Anderson Valley cab sounds most excellent!! Did you give the us tech a scorpion? I can’t believe what some peeps say…I totally agree that drinking wine has little to do with bc, in fact, wahine mentioned stress as a factor, which I forgot to say was I biggie for me (my dear old dad going downhill and this stupid economy going downhill). Too much stress depresses the immune system, and in combo with all the other factors, and a life in CA with all the pollution, etc. were more likely culprits. I also worked closely with toxic chemicals (Hg, As, Cd, etc.) for many years, so I proly increased my risk that way too. If you were in silicon valley, well there you go!!! Lotta chemicals to choose from there! For me, wine reduces stress. Red wine also has antioxidants that are good for the immune system. It is ironic that one of the reasons I moved to WA was to escape stupid air pollution and got stupid bc anyway, I think I was already set up and then lack of sun and stress took over. I should have been drinking more wine!! Yeah, blame and guilt trip the victim. Oh well, on to the MAGNUM and the PARTAY and the LIMBO STICK with wahine!!!
NM – Rant away! I’m sorry, but what is GERD? I’m at risk for ovarian, uterine, and skin, that I know of. I’ve put off the colonoscopy but will have to get around to that one of these days. Glad you have a good strategy in place. I pretty much forced my way to speak with the mamo radiologist B4 allowing the 2nd breast biopsy that I thought they were going to do at the same time as the 1st one. I was really angry and just said to the receptionist that no one was doing nothing more till I could get my LIST of questions answered first and then decide if I wanted to go forward. This is definitely a time to take charge and get what you need!!!! Glad you have Sadie to play with and are you going to the LIMBO Stick PARTAY now???
More wine, more whine, more wine, more whine!!! Let’s party, it’s Friday and AStorm has a magnum of good wine!! I'm there! Love and hugs to you all!!!

GERD is gastro-esophageal reflux disease, the fancy medical name for chronic heartburn. The valve between the top of my stomach and bottom of my esophagus doesn't close all the way and stomach acid backs up into my esophagus. Over time it's caused the lining of the esophagus to change to a condition called Barrett's Esophagus, which is can progress to esophageal cancer if not managed. That's why I take prilosec every day and have for almost 10 years now.
LIMBO partay? Not sure I'm LIMBER enough, but if I can drink while playing I'll give it a try!
0 -
Beans,I'm not sure if the limbo stick pic made it to Lori's video of the HTL, but she did a funny pic of it from one of our partys here. My DH has Barrett's like NM, which came about because of GERD, which is acid reflux (for a simpler term). And he just had the double whammy too....the endoscopy and the colonoscopy at the same time (Well I guess the dr did one, then the other...lol), but the same appt. NOT fun, right NM?
I am ready to PARTAY HEARTY....started with pina colodas, now on to whatever the TT's have put in our fountain! Come on gals, remember....Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (just saw Cindy Lauper on TV....couldn't resist)!

OH NM, I was posting the same time as you (takes me awhile!), and just saw your cactus limbo pic! Soooooooo cute!!!! Looks like we are going to have a bunch of fun here tonight!!!

Busy busy busy! And don't have time to comment on everything! I have tons of cleaning to do, then we are leaving for CA on Wed. While there, we are going to Sea World (for my b-day) seeing the grandkids and picking up a gal from Taiwan that is working with us on our business. She will be coming home with us and staying for a few days. Got a new dining room set yesterday.
Beans, talk about chemo brain....I don't remember saying anything about Pacic Northwesties gals having more cancer! LOL
Astorm, about the cancer patient being to blame for their cancer. That just SOOO pisses me off! The cancer center I went to, every person I met that had lung cancer, not one of them smoked! So I am one that thinks it is our environment as well!
NM, glad sadie is home, sorry about having to have the scopes! Done mine last year.
Stanzie, hope all is well in your house hold.....I too laughed about naming your plant and the fake one getting watered.
Kathy, I think it was HD that made that limbo pic. But I know for sure it wasn't me. You made me laugh when you said you were getting things ready for Oz already! Since ususally you are doing the day before having to leave....lol.
Junie, how sweet of Pancho to bring Sadie some goodies.
Vicky, sorry about your pain. Sure seems like a lot to go through for such a small percentage rate. But heck, at this point you only have 2 more to go! That is tough call, not sure what I would do. Good luck!
HD, where the heck are you? Dee too?
Ok, I must get to cleaning. Probably won't be on much (to post anyways) but I will read!
Love you all!

Hi gals! Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
Lori, OOPS....yup it was HD that did that pic! We must've been drunk that night (or me anyway!), LOL. You are right again...was "thinking" about starting to pack for OZ but haven't started yet. This time though since DD and family of 5 are here till the day b4 we leave, I do hope I get started earlier! Thank God we emptied out the townhouse, so they can stay there! Have a great time in CA, esp on your birthday!!!! What fun! Glad you have such a nice trip planned. Since we will be in OZ for both my mom's and my "big" birthdays, we might climb Sydney Harbor Bridge or something like that. Gotta do something unusual to celebrate!
Ciao Niao Brown Ciow!

Stopping in for a quick hello. Welcome to all the new gals and hi to Jaybird. I have to drag my tired a$$ in to work for a while today. Trying to get everything done before the end of the month. DH went and got me a latte this morning to try and get me jump started. It hasn't worked yet but it sure is fine. Sorry, but don't think it was me either for the limbo picture. I guess I was drunk too. Lori, have fun at Sea World, and hope you get along well with your house guest. I got to get going....I will be back when the drinks are rolling. Hugs! Hunkydory

Sorry to be late with the DOTD, got a call that my Mom was in the hospital, she's in atrial fibrillation again (a heart rythym problem). Spent the morning with her waiting for the Cardiologist to show up, only to find out that she may not see the cardiologist untill this evening, or even tomorrow, since she is "stable" and the cardiologist is "very busy." Arrgghh.. Going to the hospital as a visitor is only marginally better than going as a patient, I discovered.
Let's see, how about a Witch Doctor?
1 oz Raspberry Liqueur
1 1/2 oz Pineapple Rum
8 oz Dr. Pepper
0 -
Wahine, everytime I see you write OZ - I keep think Wizard of Oz.LOL.... I think I'm just way too tired. I'm so happy you and your Mom will be somewhere so fun for your birthdays! Congratulations early!
I didn't see the catus or the limbo pictures?
N.M. How cute she remembered so much, I think she is just as happy as your are to be reunited!
Sorry for the upcoming tests. I have to have my first colonoscopy this year too - figured might as well get it done since I have already met all the deductibles...
AStorm - Congratulations on passing the exam! I have two orchids - I do nothing to them hardly water them at all perhaps once or twice every couple of months and guess what they bloom at least twice a year. I think neglecting them is the secret.
Hunky - I so agree - my mom who did smoke got the kind of lung cancer Not associated with smoking. How can anyone say those things expecailly with breast cancer. My Doc told me yestereday at my physical that more women die of Lung cancer than anything else, next is breast. I do think breast cancer does have a lot to do with Vit. D and also a lot of over cancers and diseases - M.S. is one very conncected with vit. D. I also read with people using so much sunscreen they aren't getting as much vit D naturally any more. But you can over do it so make sure you have your levels checked.
goldi -Have fun at Sea World - I loved that! And how exciting to get new furniture!
Most things are almost back in place and I can start to see the floor - boy is it dusty! Well rats I guess cleaning is next!!! Have fun everyone!

Hi girls NM gave the invite so here I am...........Just been catching up on the goings on........is someone coming to Aus?(OZ)
0 -
Hi chrissy! Australia!! Wow, Aus always looks so beautiful when I see stuff about it on TV. I like your family pic! I wish I could travel there, but I'm somewhere in the midst of a joyful chemo expedition instead - whoopeee! Time for a drink!!
0 -
G'day Chrissy! (Had to do that..LOL). Where in OZ do you live? We will be in Sydney and Brisbane (have some relatives in Sydney...my paternal g'father was from there and was a reporter). Last year we went to see them in Sydney, then went to Melbourne and Adelaide (loved Adelaide!). That's how a cheer started here....the one that goes "Cheers Big Ears......(response) Same Goes, Big Nose!". We heard it was an Aussie cheer, but my relatives never heard of it...have you? Nice to have you at the HTL....a wonderful bar where everyone knows your (avatar) name!!!
NM, I am so very sorry to hear that your mom is in the hospital. How stressful for you! I am glad you were able to be there with her, and do hope the cardiologist will be able to get everything straightened out and she can return home soon!!! I know that is so very hard to have her in the hospital, but you know we will come visit too, right? At least as soon as that bus can pick us all up. Let her know all your cyber-bar friends are thinking of her and sending her hugs!!! I'll have the witch doctor drink, so that the real dr will NOT be a witch doctor! Let us know how she is doing.
Stanzie, NM posted the limbo bar with a cactus on each end, on this page. The other limbo pic was posted many, many moons ago! Someone put my face on someone else's body...and I can't remember who else ended up in the picture! Wild, wild times.
Gotta get back to work...then will go swimming to our swim-up bar later on.....
0 -
Causes of BC....well, I did have one Dr admit they don't know. I have Lynch Syndrome which means I'm extremely likely to get colon cancer (yup), endometrial cancer (don't care - they took it out so I can't get it), cervical cancer (ditto) and a few others. BC is not one listed. They checked my vit. D during the diagnosis and no one said it was bad so I guess it was good. I hadn't actually thought about it for a while...maybe I should dig up that blood test. I've also had Drs tell me that there is no relation between breast cancer and colon cancer...and yet Beans is getting same treatment I got for colon cancer! Do any of the Drs know what they are talking about? Do I need to get a medical degree just to make sure that I'm getting good care?
I've spent 6 years feeling guilty about getting cancer - having gone through it twice now makes it even harder. Why does society do this to us? Even if I had done everything "wrong" it's still a horrible disease that robs one of so much!
I've been having a rough week - lots of crying and feeling sorry for myself. I really need to figure out how to stop this so I can at least function.
Or maybe I'll just swim up to the bar and drink until I pass out. Jocks, make sure I have a soft landing.
Hope everyone is having a great day and welcome to the new ladies!
Connie

Connie - I'm so sorry you are feeling weepy - gotta say me too. All the talk of parents has me weepy, lost mom a long time ago and dad last year. Anyway, let's cry a little and then jump in the crystal blue water and swim over for a big ol WITCH DOCTOR coctail to make it all better.

The same chemo drugs are used for many different cancers, they are just used in different combinations, doses, or timing.
The cadiologist saw Mom a while ago, said that they would do a cardioversion Monday (like defibrillation but lower electrical level and resets the heart to a normal rythym, when it works). She had this done 15 years ago, too. Apparently he's not too concerned if they're going to wait until Monday. Mom already complaining about being bored, and why can't they do it today so she can go home sooner, and how bland the food is, and so on. Which all means that she is feeling pretty much her usual self, just with some palpitations once in a while. I'm going to go see her after church tomorrow. I'll let her know to expect a bus full of tipsy bc survivors who will liven up her day sometime soon!
0 -
Done working and starting my own Witching Hour. Offering a hug and a drink to those feeling a bit down. I will be poolside the rest of the day. Park your brooms and I'll buy ya a drink....Hunkydory
0 -
NM - So glad she is doing okay!!! LOL tipsy survivors - ha ha ha!!
HD - Happy Friday on Saturday. Let's PARTAY! Splish Splash!
0 -
I'll take you up on that Witch Doctor hunkydory!
No one seems to know where the limbo photo came from so I'm suspecting it actually happened and the picture is in my memory.
NM - sorry to hear about your mom. Sometimes medical people are so nonchalant you just want to smack them, but you can't cuz you need them. Kind of like husbands... let's not go there. Nothing but love for doctors and husbands! I heard once that if there were no men, there would be lots of women in sweat pants and really expensive shoes sipping wine and chatting. If there were no women, there would be a lot of men hanging out on the couch in their underwear drinking beer and burping. But really, nothin but love. I'll be in the back of the bus working on a sweater for the wiener-dog... in my sweats and Manolo Blahniks.
0 -
NM, Glad your mom is doing much better! Hope she continues to improve and want to go home, so you know she is okay. We're on our waaaaaaay.........
OK gals, Pants and Jocks are mixing up some really strong potions that will chase away the blues, they GARANTEE (cajun) it! Come and join us all by the pool and lets drown our sorrows. Sorry for all the tears, but sometimes we need to get all that out.....we are here to support each other! Doing the "tipsy survivor" dance all the way into the pool.... *SPLASH*!
Witch Doctor is Which.....I'm parking my broom by yours HD.....

Ouch...Kathy...you are one limber woman. LOL! You can park your broom next to mine anytime. Good thing we don't have to worry about drinking and flying! AStorm....please don't make me give up my sweats yet. I promise I won't wear heels with mine. LOL! My husband is on the couch, belching, and has control of remote. Like Bean says...I owe him the world for what he has done for me the last two years. I will forever be in debt to him. Tonight, I am at sons house, having dinner cooked for me, vino, and I am the lazy girl. I like this. No limbo for me tonight. That makes my back hurt looking at it. Bean, can you please check the pH of the pool? Hunkydory

Hi there, Just dx on the 17th, met with BS yesterday, I am/was a smoker, my boyfriend is against me smoking and asked the Dr if my smoking could have anything to do with my cancer. (IDC) The Dr said "absolutely" and to stop immediately. So, today I have the patch on, but wanting to smoke anyway, and the boyfriend is really on me now not smoking. I know its not healthy, but jeez, I am addicted to cigarettes and just got the most horrific news of my life.
Sorry, just venting. BTW, I am ER and PR+ Does this mean no drinking too? Although drinking would make me want to smoke even more.
