Hi everyone....
I did a ride (glorious day) then came back and worked!!! Project was similar to untying the Gordian Knot, or at least that was the logic I had to unscramble.
About to put the chicken in to roast and you guessed it.....
RED WINE!!!
Realize that while I am roasting the chicken, I can put in some beets too. YAY!!!! Just so good.
Cheers everyone. - Claire

I have always wanted to have a green house. If/when I ever get back on my feet financially and can afford a luxury or two a greenhouse is definately high on the list. Never thought much about a still, though. Could be fun now that I think about it <8-D
0 -
Oh you should have a green house with your green thumb it would be profitable enough to pay for itself. When I bought this house and property the original owner back in the 1920's had a wonderful green house but I had to tear it down as it was totally rusted with broken glass and such everywhere and when you walked near it is shook, just couldn't take the chance it would kill my kids but wow, what a wonder it must have been even had a boiler for heat in the winter. There is also the remains of what was probably a beautiful old fountain. The original owner's great grandson came to see the house and he told wonderful stories and has shared pictures with me. Anyway he said his great grandfather would come home and turn on the fountain full blast and let it overflow down the hill to water the rest of the property - must have been wonderful!
Wahine- I'm so sorry about your flooring guy as I know you were so thrilled with him. Can he at least recommend someone else? What if he just took his time? I have a great flooring guy but don't think they come as far as you......
gosh when do we think the economy will turn around so we won't all be worried about money as well. Ugh. I get so tired of all of it.
My son had to make pita bread and Falafel for Monday so far the pita came out great tomorrow we tackle the falafel .... and making a huge batch of onion soup which my elderly music friends love. Oh took them to see the simulacast of the Met last Sat. and it was truely amazing!!! Even if you aren't big opera fans it was fabulous. Google Das Ringhold - OK can't begin to spell the German but the set itself was just so amazing! Really great!
So, I had an odd weekend so I'm off on tangents. still trying to post a picture I'll get it one of these day......
Got my phone connected by the car guy only to stop at the grocery store and now the phone doesn't work. sigh.

Happy Sunday morning, lounge ladies! I see the tenders and wenches have set up the usual scrumptious Sunday Brunch Buffet. Good thing, since I'm hungry and too tired to cook.
Hunky--the mental picture I get of sunbathing rattlesnakes both amuses and frightens me! I 'd be too scared to go out of the house in a place like that, I think!
DOTD is in honor of Stanzie's tangents: Tangueray Tangent
2 shots Tanguerary
1 shot citrus energy drink
3 shots gatorade
HEY! The Tenders and Wenches have installed a new bar section--check this out!
0 -
LOL NM....loooooove your "Drugs on tap"! I think the TT's and Wenches will be busy filling that up a lot!!! Thats an awesome addition to the HTL. Think I'll join you in the brunch, and although the energy "Tangueray Tangent" looks amazing, I will go up to the Mimosa Fountain as I love those on Sunday mornings. Those and the Bloody Mary's. I'll save that energy drink till later on today when my energy seems to always fade out.
G@@D Morning Girls!!!!! Lets have a badass day....

wahine - I'm soooorrrrtttaaaa here...got blown out by the DOTD...and the big PartEE last night!!! (I did actually drink a bit of merlot)...(yeah, where is everybody????)
Claire - your dinner sounds great!
NM - I envy your gardening and a green house would be so nice...also a still would be even better!! Thanks for anuder GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR8 DOTD!
Stanzie - I love pitas and falafel, makes me feel awful (j/k dumb joke).
The so-called economy SUCKS!!! And I do hope it turns into an economy again some day sooooooon.
Today DH and I are walking the line of our property to mark where the state should not log - darn they have been putting in loggin roads across where my view is and I've heard they are taking 90% of the trees, then replanting. It will proly look like waste land for about 5 years till the new trees grow. We want to make sure they don't accidentally take any trees off our land. Here's how it looks this morning (sorry, sun kind of bright.)
Peace, love, and drugs on tap! ~ Beans

Passed out, yes.
Have you seen this irreverent tribute to tatas on the web:
Fake (+)(+); Perfect (o)(o); Perky (*)(*); Cold (^)(^); and even Grandma's \./\./
Big ( O )( O ) or Small (.)(.); save them all!
I have one to add: (-)(-) BMX, nipples pending... but I guess it's too late to save those...Is October almost over?

We're also packing and getting this mountain pad all bundled up for winter. Our neighbor is going to plow for us in case we can get back over this winter, but we'll mostly be at the coast.
Here's a pic I took at our beach cabin last time I was there, so many birds all lined up on the wire!

Okay, enuf about birds, and trees, and pwetty skies, n snow angels, etc.. Let's get to drinking! Bottoms up, Cheers!

Love all the beautiful property pictures!!! Makes me want to go to the mountains! I did see that BC awareness post on FB and just couldn't begin to thing of a response that would go out over FB.
October is also Down Syndrome Awareness month but never see anything a bout that anymore.
Well, we have been frying here!!! Bleck! Hot oil is just dreadful. Weird thing, we made the Pita's and they turned out beautiful. Then onto the Falafels so the first few turn out pretty good then they start melting away into the oil. We are confused and start looking more up on the internet. All of a sudden the phone rings and it is a boy in his class, He calls to say you have to add baking soda or they will fall apart. Well, my son just says OK and hangs up. I'm like HUH??? Why on earth would someone call out of the blue, someone you aren't even really friends with to tell you how to fix exactly what our problem is??? No no one else in the class is cooking what my son was assigned. So I'm so confused. Perhaps I had too much Tangent Tanguery! Yikes!

Stanzie, That sucks that you don't hear that Oct is Down Syndrome Awareness Month! Need to have celebrities with down syndrome kids, then they will get the word out. It breaks my heart how many problems people are plagued with that there doesn't seem to be much headway on. I have never even had falafel, nor do I know what it looks like! Weird, but good, that that student called your son.....hope that solved the problem! Let us know what it tastes like (or I may be the only ignorant one! LOL).
Beans, Those pics are GAWGEOUS!!! I would hate to lose any of those trees too....hope you can keep Big Brother OFF your property.
Gail, Neat symbols for the Tatas....I had not seen that. Mine used to be more like \./\./, but now are nice and upright! Only good thing about having bc....perky boobs now.
HD, Did you ever find a long enuf hose????
We spent the afternoon in the...get this...CEMETARY!! They had a thing this afternoon where about 65 costumed characters were in the historic cemetary portraying important people that are buried there, or w/relatives buried there. The one doing Tallulah Bankhead really looked and acted like her...very good! (We even have a big street named Bankhead after her political relatives). And some people were by their crypts, etc. Really neat, but sooooo many people that parking was a nightmare. My DD was there, but never saw her w/ all the crowds. The maple trees were so pretty w/ the gorgeous orange leaves, etc.DH didn't feel well so I didn't get to stay as long as I would have liked. GAWGEOUS day though...couldn't be better weather!!!
Having happy hour now...anyone wanna join me???? Oh, I see HD is still here....that hose going directly to where she is! Way to go, girl! And I see junie bringing her bucket of dog beers....and Beans is drinking something...can't figure out what it is! There is Claire, drinking wine, and the TT's sure are busy just keeping up with the few of us that are hanging out right now. AStorm, Stanzie, chrissyb, Kittycat, NM, and everyone else, put your orders in!!!!
BARMEN!

Stanzie - yes, everything seems to be pink right now, I didn't realize it was also DS month. I haven't seen that, darn it should get more publicity tooo. And what a coincidence that the boy called to tell you how to fix your falafel problem - that is so funny, hope they turn out great and they should go perfect with Tanquerey!!!
We walked up the mountain accross the property line and the state already marked it really well. BTW - the yellow is fall color, the Tamarack trees are deciduous and start turning and dropping their needles (and now I got a bunch of them on my clothes and...on the floor to clean up. We had a beautiful walk, there were so many different types of mushrooms and shelf fungi, lichens and moss, I took pics of the creek but haven't looked at them yet. It's cool here, but I wore my thermals so in all it was a great adventure. I will miss the mountains and this 40 ac retreat. I won't miss the snow though. Actually the snow isn't so bad, it's when the road gets icy that I can't stand it. Usually if it's just snow we do a bit of x-country skiing or snow shoeing. I used to downhill but DH doesn't like it so I haven't been downhill for a long old time now. Probly a good thing as I get older and such. My dad quit downhill when he was in his 60's. But he x-c'd for a long time after that. My mom was never to much into outdoor stuff but she was a great cook and crafter. At least at the coast we'll have our newly fixed bikes and lots of sand to jog on, if the fatigue doesn't bog me down. It's been tougher lately to keep up with my exercise. I guess that will eventually get better after my winter adventure coming up...I know I've proly sed this B4 but only 4 more IV trick or treats and my last psych-o-toxin pill should be Dec. 6 and if I can combine Kemadingdong with Radathon I may squeek through all this part by end of Dec and be consuming mass quantities of champagne with vodka chasers by New Years! I just realized my thermals are inside out and backward...it's been like this a lot lately.
Cheeerio Cheeers My Tipsy Dears!!!

wahine - I bumped into your post, so to speak...I love Tallulah Bankhead, what a great cemetary adventure. Hope DH is doing okay. I sorta like Stanzie's idea of Tanqueray and tonic for happy hour...BARMEN!!!!
0 -
OK...Tanqueray & Tonic for Beans and Stanzie! Coming right up!! Yeah, the cemetary stroll thing was cool. They just showed some of it on the news, and although I did realize there were 2 bands there, did not realize my DD's best friend was playing celtic music there till I saw her on the news! The head person there asked me to give her my family history some time ago (ukulele inventor) so if I do get interred there (DH has several plots there), then they would add my story to the event. Sorta weird, but neat. But I haven't done that yet...LOL.
PAU HANA!

Indeed Kathy, that is a wierd adventure. I would have to be 3 sheets to the wind to go to that. Of course, if you were to be interred there, I would probably go. Now, sharing quite a secret myself....Tanqueray and tonic is my favorite Hard likker mix/w a twist of lime. So, today is a great day for me here at the HTL. Who is kinking my hose? HD
P.S. Stanzie, I have never had nor heard of falafel. I did however look up your Das Rheingold opera. I am not an opera fan but the pictures of the characters and set did look like it made for quite the production.

Not sure what this will look like but is the view from our back deck. The acorns have really been dropping from our trees. (Sound like rocks hitting the roof!). I looked at some in the yard and they are the largest I've ever seen--maybe a sign of a really harsh winter? Our new 4-wheel drive might be put to a big test. DH can go sliding and shopping for supplies and I'll stay at the HTL!!!
I didn't know that Oct was also Down's Syndrome month. I'm surprised that Sarah Palin isn't all over that! (not to introduce politics to the lounge, but she would be a very visible spokesperson...)
I think NM should have a still to go along with her "winery"!!! I have an old brown glazed jug that supposedly was one of my granddad's moonshine jugs--I smile whenever I look at it. I was "privileged" to have some bootleg moonshine a couple years ago. OMG--they call it white lightning for a reason! I think my hair stood on end when I drank it!
I see a few empty lounge chairs at the pool so sitting my bucket down and joining you all.
A really great bc.o friend sent me this....thought this was a perfect place to pass it on.....
"FRIENDLY ADVICE...
Please take care of yourself. A recent joint study by the Depatment of Health and the Department of Motor Vehicles indicates that 23% of traffic accidents are alcohol related. This means that the remaining 77% are caused by assholes who just drink coffee, carbonated drinks, juices, yogurts, and shit like that. Therefore, beware of those who do not drink alcohol. They cause three times as many accidents."
BARMEN!!!! Big hugggssssss to ALL

Just a pop in HD - that is really my favorite drink too!!! Oh Kathy !!! That is interesting and great ??? I guess that they will have an interesting story about you in 50 years of so..... But a little creepy? Sounds fun though at least if the relatives are distant might too strange if they were immediate family.
Well, if none of you knew it was DS Month also makes me wonder did they change it??? How very strange. Will have to look into it.
Falafels turned out good but sort of mild but the rest just fell apart so Yes I did buy a mix just in case and those did fine but were awfully spicy. I have had resturant ones and they are pretty good, these.... well OK but you wouldn't want more than a small one I think. The pita bread was Beautiful and tasty too!!!
0 -
Wahine - I've been reading more about Tallulah Bankhead, she had quite a reputation!!! I also love celtic music, bein' a gud p'rt Scottish, "Air Son Gradh Na h-Albann" and absolutely love bag pipes and men in skirts (ya know kilts). (Ya know too, dey don't wear undies under dere.)
This photo is of the Wicked Tinkers (http://www.wickedtinkers.com/) a band I had the pleasure to hear once and I have some of their CD's.
HD - did you say you have a kinky hose??? (I'm not an opera fan neder, but do appreciate dere talent as I have no lovely singing voice at allllllll!!)
Junie - Your view is fantastic, I wish our was more than just the other side of the canyon. I second NM getting a still! Then we can all have some moonshine, I've never gotten to try that, tho I hear these mountain folks have been making it for many years. OMG - LMAO at the friendly advice, too funny!!! Thanks!
Stanzie - I've tried falafels at home and the restaurant ones were way betr than mine, I make a mean pita though. Yummy stuff!!!
Bottle "o Scotch anyone???

Junie, What a gorgeous view from your deck!! Can imagine sitting there while the sun sets, with a drink or two. Reminds me of the view we had from our farm, with my late DH. So nice to enjoy nature right from your home!! Good warning about who to REALLY worry about having accidents....funny!!!
Beans, There was a pic of the actress that did Tallulah yesterday, in todays paper...said she was the most popular character there. Of course she had a long cig holder and champagne glass! I just looked stuff about her too, and thought this was funny: "She was infamous for not wearing underwear. According to Hume Cronyn, during the filming of Lifeboat (1944) the crew complained about her flashing them when she had to climb a ladder to go into the mock-up of a lifeboat. When their objections to Bankhead's exhibitionism reached director Alfred Hitchcock, he reportedly quipped that he didn't know if it was a matter for wardrobe or hairdressing." LOL
Wow, what a kinky looking band! Very appropos name, and bet they play some wicked music. Maybe you can book them for one of our parties!
HD, I hope your hose managed to stay unkinked after Pants took care of it for you! Hope the work week is going okay.....or as well as it possibly could be!
Anyone been to a haunted house this month? I'm considering it, but know I will get scared to bits. Fun though....but might need to down a few beforehand...LOL. Busy week here, hope all you fantastic lounge lizards are doing well tonight....PARTY ON!

Hi!

Beans- right there with you on anything Celtic!!! I'm Irish, Scotish, English and Welsh between my Mom and Dad so there you go! Also one of my favorite places on earth is Ireland, haven't been to Wales or Scotland yet but hopefully one day and who couldn't love England!
So, didn't sleep at all last night trying to figure out what to do about Sean and his bus driver..... It is a special ed. bus so a small number of studens - 4. and one driver. He normally comes home at 4:30 deliverd right to my driveway. Yesterday it was between 5:15 and 5:20pm so I called the school to see if the bus left on time. Got the principal who called the transportaion supervisor who was supposed to call me back but didn't. Shortly after the call the bus show up. I ask why so late.
The driver, Mary, says it is because a child got sick on the bus and she had to clean it up. OK. However the first day when she was really late it was 6:15pm and I was totally freaking out she said the same thing...hmmm? So Sean comes in and I ask who was sick. No one. So Ok, it could have been on the elementary route befoe the middle school. But for some reason I ask, did you all stop anywhere so the driver could clean up anything. He says no but we did stop for chips. What??
I first say, Sean you don't eat chip? He says, I did today. I ask did you stay on the bus or go into the store. He says Mary, Jonathan and I went into the store to buy chips. I ask if she ever left them alone, No. Did she pick up towels or anything to clean the bus. No.
So this morning after this has really bothered me, I remember one time he said Mary gave him pop corn - something else he doesn't like... and I asked if she had it on the bus with her. He says no we stopped and bought it. I then ask who all is on the bus and he lists off the other three children and whose class they are in. I ask about Jenny who he used to sit with - he says she is not on bus # 556. So he clearly knows what is going on. Now Jonathan is not only special Ed - he is in the sever and profound class ( the school's title - certainly not mine) so why on earth would this woman take these two kids into a gas station convience store??? Yikes.
She is suck a stickler for rules with me as in she won't more than 2 minutes and she leaves, he has to wear his backpack totally zipped, he can't have anything in his hands like a coat to go down the stairs..... and then she does this? Also giving the benefit to her if a child got sick and she was late picking up the kids to come home - would this really be a bright idea to make an extra stop?
Ugh was scared to say anything this morning as I had to put him on the bus... I can't get my other two to school unless he rides the bus or goes to school really late - which he may be doing now! But Jonathan can't say anything to his parents as I don't think he is verbal. Perhaps she thinks Sean isn't bright but he is and he knows when something is odd.
Sorry to rant on this but just so freaking out. My ex. thought it was strange but he wouldn't do anything about it..... I wrote to his teacher telling her what happened but asking if she could check to see when he left yesterday and so far haven't heard a word! ??? Now I'm really nervous about him coming home.... I have carpool for the other kids and another family so not sure what to do....
Otherwise just having such a weird time of it all - can not think properly to save my life so let me know if I was out of line with writing to the school... so confused....
0 -
Oh Stanzie, NO you were totally CORRECT in writing to the school. In fact, it might be good to go to the school in person to see the principal and let him/her know what is going on. Or, calling the principal if that would be better for you. You can always go up the ladder to the superintendant...I had to do that once. Please, please do not think you are out of line. Thank God that Sean can verbalize what is going on, and he is smart and like you said, he knows when something isn't right. I am so sorry you are having this happen. It is always SO HARD when we have to confront the school system with a problem. Makes me glad my kids are home-schooling my g'kids, as I remember how I dreaded finding out things that had happened at school, or how horrid their teachers were to them. I was so glad when they graduated from high school. Please let us know how this gets resolved. Thinking of you and hoping for the best!!! (((HUGS)))
Kathy

stanzie,
Sorry to butt in here, but what you said about the bus driver makes me very uncomfortable. I am a teacher, and work with special ed. kids at my school. If it were me I would call the school and talk to the principal. No bus driver should ever stop for food or anything else when students are on the bus. I wouldn't leave it in the hands of the teacher, some are proactive, others aren't.
0 -
Stanzie--the bus driver and every one else at the school or connected with the school works for YOU--YOU pay their salaries with your taxes. Remember that little saying "He who pays the piper gets to call the tunes"? or "He who pays makes the rules"? These people have your child's safety in their hands AND they are responsible to YOU. Contact the parents of the other children on that bus. Contact the school, show up at a school board meeting, get someone to follow the bus for a few days and take pics of anything that doesn't look right. What is happening is WRONG--do not put up with it!
0 -
I just had a horrible thought--what if this ditz of a bus driver hauls some kid into a convenience store and buys him/her something he/she is allergic to? Or the child get snatched by some pervert? Or wanders into the street and gets hit by a car?
Personally, I think having a child arrive at school late on a routine basis because the parent is afraid to let the child rid the bus would send quite a strong message to the powers that be.

Stanzie - put on your mama bear face and go talk to the principal! It is natural for moms to worry and to protect their kids. I stopped being passive when I gave birth. My first born went to a daycare home a few miles away from my office... I put a lot of time and thought into selecting the right person. When I first went back i only worked 4 hours (1-5) and arrived at daycare around noon so that i could nurse my baby and "experience" the situation. It did not feel right but I was afraid of losing my job and we had just bought a house. When I picked up the baby on the first Friday the daycare lady commented that I should feed her earlier and then just drop her off at 1:00 because we needed to change her afternoon feeding time to better fit the schedule. I asked "don't you feed her when she's hungry?" No wonder she was always starving when I picked her up! oh, and while we're talking... she needs to have more noise while she's napping... take this Raffi tape and play it really loud when she is sleeping. I thanked her and went home! but after talking to a friend who reminded me that I was in charge, I called her and told her we wouldn't be coming back. No, my boss was not understanding.
Some people are just so clueless -- we hired a teenager from the neighborhood to sit with our kids once while we went out to dinner nearby. They reported later that she took them, in her car, to a friend's house! Did I really have to tell her that wouldn't be ok? She didn't even have car seats! Needless to say she never baby sat in this neighborhood again! Some people just have no common sense but I would venture that your bus driver is actually breaking some written rules.
Sorry I'm in a bad mood cuz I went to a breast cancer awareness talk last night instead of coming to the HTL. Won't make that mistake again!
