Hi All!!!! My goodness you all have been terribly busy!
Congratulations Auntie Beanie! And Congratulations Dorothy for your new perky girls and hope the pain meds stay with you for a while.
So, I'm back but the boat is still moving..... We had fun, lots of resting and sleeping and talking. There were not as many odd people as I had hoped for funny stories. They didn't make a big deal about Christmas in fact they barely mentioned it! They had a show at 10:30 that they kids were supposed to have sung in - seemed kinda late and we skipped it.
Only stories are one couple where they man wore silk shirts left unbuttoned half way down and wore a "pork pie" hat and funny tennis shoes. He would ask strangers to take pictures of him and his "wife" when they did he would grab her boobs or her groin. ICK! We saw him do this over and over..... Then we went to see one show and got there early. When you went down the steps you had to cross over in front of two bench chairs and on one sat this woman who refused to let people pass or if she did she was really ugly to them even to a little boy. Then her "husband" came and sat and he moved the bench to block the aisle and a waiter went over to talk to them and they still refused. Why do that???
Other than that noting too exciting... We got off at the two ports but we just walked around. So very low key...... Glad to be home. Had my Christmas with the kids yesterday and am recovering from that. Oh, my sister went to Cuba with the botanical society and brought be back some ilegal rum ! So that is fun. Will have to find something good to use it in so as to still taste it.

I am afraid I have made yellow snow myself. Would be orange today due to those stinking antibiotics. I am with ya Beans on the diflucan daiquiri after we are off. Tomorrow is a visit to the Surgeon for another little jab with the syringe. Hope he doesn't find any juice to pull off. Sorry NM....I know some people have a fear of the poke. I guess I am lucky I don't. I know a 50cc syringe seams scary, but it sure feels good to get that out. Fingers crossed too for a good culture test from Monday. I am sure I don't have an infection though or I would have had fever, etc. Dorothy, glad you are doing so well. Stay rested and tell Jackson Pratt boys hi and good ridance from me...LOL! Beans...what is your Zapdown? 2 more boosts?
I made a big pot of beef stroganoff today. It is cold, windy, and a little snowy here today so it sounded good. I planned it around my wine selection...LOL! Erica. Some here would say I might know about your pain pill question as I have had a few surgeries this past year. I will not even answer other than to say follow the directions on the bottle. It is nothing to mess around with, and I wouldn't want to feel responsible in telling someone it will be ok after 3 hours or 6 hours to drink. The half life of drugs in your system is something you would have to ask a pharmacist about.
I am looking forward to our NYE party. I just hope we are all healthy. There are so many we haven't heard from in a while and I hope they stop in and say hello. Now, I am needing to finish some dinner prep. It's called, opening a bottle of vino to breath. Cheers! HD0 -
I think I'm on cloud 9 with wahine (diff reason, you look ma'velous and I'm just wearing my "I pooped today" t-shirt)...tomorrow (if all goes as scheduled) I will finish zaps in the afternoon. I go in in the am and 6 hrs later for my final boost. I think I'm going to go crazy from the excitement. I just can't tell you how foooo - hucking excited I am!!!! I'm so afraid these storms will knock out the power and I'll have to wait - gotta think positivo - I will be finished cooking tomorrow - ye ye ye he he he aweeeeee! Then I can get outa this wet, mouldy, gray, coastal blah blah blah yucko place for a while!!! I need to see some sunshine. It's been hailing. It woke me up all night hailing!!! I will be ungrounded and flying high through the sky to find sun. There must be sun somewhere!!! (can I borrow someone's broom????)
Stanzie - so good to hear from ya & twice too!!! ye he he he!!!
HD - I just know alls going to be well with you. You sound darn good, and I hope you will just keep on resting and getting over this hurdle! I'm glad your yellow snow wasn't orange. When should we start the diflucan coctails??? I have ten pills, do you think I'll need more??? My RO is wonderful and he says I can start pumping antioxidants anytime. So here I come vitamin C!!! Also to start Tammy next week arrreeeeeeee! I'm sorta scared but heck it can't be too bad can it, I mean after every fooooo - hucking thing else????
I needa drink!!! It's way big happy hour and tomorrow I will be un-containable making yellow snow everywhere I go with my bright pink titty!!! Sounds like spring colors!!! So I'm going to down my yellow snow cocktail right now and then go goo my boob! BARMEN!!

Beans....was gorgeous here in Seattle today, and I am hoping for sun in the mountains tomorrow. Can't wait to go skiing as I have been working all day. That is, except for going for bloodwork for next week's onc visit.
I got my hepatic panel results back already, and I can see that I am just fine. Woo-hoo!!! This was with giving the liver a good wine stress test from last night. Great news from a number of perspectives.
HD.....should be great for the "big reveal". So glad you are moving forward.
I need to check out "Yellow Snow IPA". But if it tasts foul, you can't say you weren't warned.
Beans....the "Yellow Snow Warning" is anatomically inexact. Won't go into details, but deer just don't pee quite that way. Neither gender.
NM......still laughing at the "watering the tree" cartoon.
Back to work, then a walk and dinner with wine. Lots to celebrate. - Claire

Just read the SABCS headline and article about Aromatase Inhibitors increasing risk for heart disease. Looks like those of us who drink wine may be on to something. Of course, they didn't break down the data that way, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if alcohol, and particularly red wine wasn't beneficial/protective here.
Now wouldn't that one be interesting.
0 -
Claire - once again I'm jealous, we did get some sun today but then whipping winds and then more clouds and hail. Let us know, maybe if the IPA is foul we can start a yellow snow IPO - make some $$$ - ha ha ha...and drinking wine is a good thing!!
0 -
Claire - where is that link? I mean if there is good news encouraging me to drink red wine while on aromitase...well, that would be damn good to hear after reading the negative write-up on aromitase and the heart.
0 -
Hi Raincity....
No link, just my brain making a few connections. They really haven't analyzed the data in a way that would compare drinkers to non-drinkers. But alcohol is protective re: heart disease. I see no reason why it wouldn't be for those of us taking AIs.
You would need a very large sample of women for anything to sift out. I am thinking something like 10,000 on AIs. You are talking about very low risk to begin with.
I do know that one SE of AIs is high cholesterol. (I was concerned about this, but fortunately also have very high HDL.) So really not surprised given that SE, that increased risk of heart issues.
You also have to realize that a lot of women taking AIs aren't exercising because of the joint pain they are experiencing. So you have high cholesterol + not enough exercise.
Michelle Holmes said in her comments last year that "while the statistics showed higher mortality from breast cancer among women who were drinkers, ti did not show a higher mortality overall". (Essence, but not exactly her quote.) So alcohol appears to have a protective effect.
I would expect the same in the case of patients taking AIs.
Note: I concede that I could be full of baloney here. But it would be the ultimate irony if all of us had been given the wrong counsel. - Claire
0 -
Claire - any counsel that includes red wine is one that I find not only appropriate, but welcome
I have to say that I was driving in the rain up Madison the other day and there was a woman on a bicycle with short dark hair (no helmet!!!) and I thought "could that be Claire"? I was actually on the way to Spinasse to get a gift cert for my favorite med onc who loves that restaurant. Have you eaten there?
0 -
I wear my helmet while cycling so not the person. Have mostly moved on to skiing.
I have not eaten at Spinasse, but the food Chez Claire is quite good. Just tucked away boneless pork chops in mustard-cream sauce with gnocchi (as per Nigella Lawson) with chard (braised with pine nuts and raisins) and butternut squash with a bit of maple syrup and butter.
I had some red wine from last week's wine buy (Safeway......Covey Run was $4.50 a bottle if you bought 6).
I just dropped off some Elegance for my surgeon. I put a "do not guzzle" sign on it.
Off in the AM to Snoqualmie Pass to work this all off. I have ingredients for pea soup, but didn't feel like chopping up everything.
Just thinking through everything, if us WA state imbibing crowd meet up, think it should be at Tasting Room. The most wonderful wines and snacks.

Food at Maison d'Diane is also good but always nice to check out something else. We had an amazing chef here to cook for a party recently and it was oh so delicious. Tonight I made my first king salmon of the season with a citrus glaze, farro, broccoli, and french carrots. Not familiar with Elegance. Made pea soup on Sunday!
I am on for the Tasting Room any time but while you will likely bike or run there, I will not

Beanie - hope you get your final zaps tomorrow and can start the new year in healing mode.
Lori - glad you are feeling better... the nurse will hang out for a few more days though, just to make sure you don't relapse.
Claire - interesting about the Aromatase inhibitors... just seems intuitive to me that wine, which is food with proven beneficial qualities, not the least of which is the tendency to make us smile, would be good for us. And your dinner sounds absolutely scrumptious!
Raincitygirl - I found an interesting link on the National Cancer Institute site: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/prevention/redwine
Also, in "Anticancer: A New Way of Life", Dr. Servan-Schreiber references a study that contradicts the studies we have all heard about alcohol being carcinogenic. Go to http://www.books.google.com/ to read the excerpt, search "what about wine?"

Grrrrr. lost my post! BUT I HAD IT IN WORD!
Dorothy, love the bra and hope you feeling ok, and not too bad. In the near future you shouldn't be needing any bra, but you def. have the support!
Beans, that pooch with the needle looks worse than nurse Hatchet!
Oh Kathy, don't you just love when that happens. My mom has a friend, who I thought was more her age, close to 70. Come to find out, she is MY age. Now THAT is bad! And to be in your 90's is just plain amazing, whether you look or not. JMO!
Welcome home Stanzie. Interesting stories, and I am like you, why move your seat in the way of people and be mean and nasty. I just feel sorry for people like that. And the grabby man, I hope he wasn't doing that in front of children.
HD, good luck to you today and your date with the needle. I hope they don't pull much either.
Beans..........woooooo hooooooooo! Praying you can get to that last ZAP. Oh, quite a bit of sun in AZ.....hint hint! But not right now, unfortunately. It has snowed L. So far we have about 6", still coming down and could have up to 65 mph gusts. I-40 is closed from Kingman AZ to Holbrook AZ, about 170 miles! So if you do come, broom would be the way to fly, maybe even a snow shovel!
As for what's good and what's not, I quit reading. I really don't think they know much, it always seems to be contradicting at some point and it just reminds me that I had cancer. So the closest I get to any cancer research is right here! And if I hadn't met so many great and wonderful friends here, I wouldn't bother coming here at all.

Stanzie-welcome back! Hope he boat stops moving soon! What was with the rude and obnoxious couples? ?? Illegal rum-sounds like a lot of fun!
Hunky-I hope your doc doesn't find anything to suck out. Went to the oncs for my lupron shot yesterday, the nurse comes to the door of the waiting room with the needle and syringe in her hand, I had a meltdown right there! It was a new nurse who saw the note on my chart to make sure I didn't see the needle but she didn't think that any one who'd had cancer could possibly that afraid of needle! Got to remember to make sure my shot appointments are with the other nurse from now on, I guess. Is today your big reveal day? Here's to celebrating good results!
Beanie-hooray for being so close to done cooking!
Claire-it wouldn't be the first time medicine has given people the wrong info for years and years. Eating too much starch and sugar causes diabetes. Eating too much calcium causes kidney stones. Surgical incisions don't start healing until they start draining pus. Only time will tell us if the current knowledge is correct or not.
Raincitygirl-that sounds like a wonderful meal! What is farro? I'm not familiar with that.
I've been up off and on all night since getting my Lupron shot with a sore a$$. Between getting freaked out seeing the huge honking needle they have to use for that thick stuff and the now constant pain I am so going to talk to my Med Onc at my appointment in Feb about what I have to do to get off this d@>n stuff ASAP. I don't want more surgery, but if having my ovaries taken out will put an end to this torture, I'm ready to consider it.
DOTD=Pain, Pain, Go Away
6 pints Irish Whiskey
5 splashes Irish Cream
2 tbsp Tabasco Sauce
4 oz Ginger Ale0 -
NM, I didn't realize how bad the lupron shots were. My youngest DD had to have a series of 6 of them a month apart for endo...she was just 17 and it put her into an early temporary menopause. Right during her 1st yr of college and away from home, which was a real bad situation. But she never mentioned how big the needle had to be! I had to pick them up from drugstore and overnight themto OK each month cause they had to stay cold. After a couple of surgeries for the endo, and after having all the kids she wanted, she finally had a hyst. THAT SUCKS that you had an insensitive nurse regarding the needle. So sorry to hear that! Funny pics! And I will try some of that "Pain,Pain Go Away" drink...might help my back!
HD, I also hope today goes well and the dr doesn't have to aspirate any more fluid. Hope it is all healed!!!
Dorothy, Can't wait to hear how you like the new "girls"! Hope the reveal reveals some gorgeous tatas! Remember sometimes they need a few weeks to "fluff", and can change a bit for awhile.
Very cloudy here today, but should be warmer before the storms roll in tomorrow night. So I am very glad we are having the big PARTAY at our HTL which is immune to storms, snow, ice, and any other bad weather. Just nice and balmy! Pants, please bring me a LARGE "pain, pain go awy" drink! Oh, and make it a double too...LOL.
Thrilling Thursday, Girlzzzzzzzzzz!
Kathy

Hi Ladies,
It looks like I got here just in time. I am going to join NM and Kathy for the DOTD and make it a double for me too. Pain pain go away x two. And then my arse is moving to the perco-fountain. I unwrapped myself today and am very surprised that my new babies are identical twins. They look perfect, not squished. I am going to remove my pain pump once my pm meds kick in (doctor said I can remove it myself). The darn belt is rubbing against my skin and making me itchy. I was itching like crazy and it felt sooooo good to remove the 100 foot bandage and three inch thick gauze. I am now in a sports bra and most of my pain is coming from the drains. With each surgery, I have found it best to leave the drain area alone to keep it from stinging constantly but had not choice but to mess with it today when taking off the dressing. I will probably take a photo of my twins and use my facebook account to get it onto the net to show off my twins. I hide it in an unpublished albumn then remove it after I post. Ahhh, sneaky I am.
Sorry NM about the insensitive nurse that flashed the big needle under your nose. That is just rude. If you chart really says not let you see the needle, why would she do that? I have already reported her to the HTL police and no worries for you in having her again (assuming it was a her).
Lori, I love your photos. I am glad you liked my friend support bra too. I thought it was appropriate and said just what I was feeling without writing a thing. And your comment about Nurse Hatchett cracked me the hail up. I had one of those nurses when I had my daughter so many years ago. Ick!! And I am like you in NOT reading up on things. I just don't wanna know. When I first got my dx, they gave me a bc notebook full of info. I never opened it until after my bmx. It had some info that I wished I had known but after reading and researching, I realized I just don't need to know.
Claire, you sound like you have done enough homework to be called Dr. Claire. One thing i might add, my doc told me that the medical field is starting to rethink the rules on preventing lymphodema. One fact that may be changed soon is the ten pound weight limit for life. I was telling my doc how my sister, just like me, had nodes removed in both arms and never listened to anyone about the weight limit. She has been lifting weights for a number of years and never got the lymphodema. My doc may be on to something. I did conclude, Claire, that drinking is good for my overall health, perhaps not my breast health but heck, I don't have breasts anyway .
HD, thanks for the well wishes and I am glad you are feeling better. We need you to come and join the party tomorrow in NY (lol). Funny, someone mentioned thinking that NYE met NY....I did for a split second myself but then stopped and pondered it. I hope the bus is gassed up, liquored up and has the pretty pill fountain too including some diflucan pills. I have one around here which I am saving for an itchy day. I call it the twat rot as that is what it feels like having those stupid yeast infections. I am ready to join you all tomorrow and celebrate the ending of a very memorable year.
Beans, congrats on your last zap-a-doo....I know you are excited. Did you say you are starting on tamox now? Another ick......I hope it works for you and does not cause you alot of se's. You have done such a great job in keeping a positive attitude while going through living hell. Kudos to you!!
Hello to Stanzie, glad you had a nice getaway. I liked your funny stories, people can be so goofy at times. I too hope that the motion stops in your brain and you are firmly on your feet again without motion.
Wahine, I hope to see you tomorrow night at the NY NYE party. I guess the bus will pick you up first, save me a seat. And if you decide to ride the broom, save room on the back for me. And I am going to bring some drinks for the ride, love that pain go away cocktail, sounds yummy. And the beautiful thing is that we can drink all we want and never have a worry that it is hurting our health. And yikes, your poor daughter had to go through all of that at such a young age. I am glad that is behind her now and that she was able to give you grandbabies. I have a cousin who had a similar problem and she just had her first baby last year. She is over 40 and has a one year old, I can't even begin to imagine taking care of a toddler at my age!
Well off I go to yank out my pain pump...I mean gently yank. The wires are taped to my chest and the tape is starting to bother me. The pump is empty so it is time for it to go. I thank it for doing its duty lol.
Have a great day girls and I will try to check in later and see how you are all doing.

LMAO Beans! Are you done tanning, are you done are you done? Please say you are done. Or do you have one more late afternoon? I hope today is the end of your tanning and we are having a Bacon Party at the lounge in your honor!.
I have to say that the dude on the left reminds me of Dr. Shane, the resident in the O.R. with me. Here I go again, the lustful thoughts are back! I shall not mention a word of this to DH, it will be our secret, girls.
Everyone, lets go eat ice cream at the lounge. The tenders have added bacon flavored to the menu in hour of Bean's celebration. Bacon with beans, come on in!!
ICE CREAM- 40 flavors, our newest are Bacon and Motor Oil. I will have Rocky Road. Make it two scoops.
Ahhh, that tastes yummy with the DOTD, I will have another double. If you see me tilting forward, just push me back. I am getting a bit wobley with all of these mind and body numbing toxins in my body. I think I will switch to Jack and coke now (bacon coke that is)....
And I may as well have some dessert too! Who is in? If I can't have Dr. Shane, I should just eat this yummy dessert
That was some brunch!! (Hiccup)

Me gawds...that bacon cake nearly set me into vomitious mode. I've never been to NY before. Guess I will find the closest likker store to our meetin up spot and use some cash I don't have. Oh, NM...don't read from here:
I went to Dr this morning and he got the syringe out. Well 2 of them....one to jab and put the local in, and the bigger one to pull the fluid. DH said when he first jabbed it in he didnt even have to pull....it just shot out and up went the plunger in the syringe......awwww....felt so damn good. Not as much this time so that was good too. He said one more visit and it should be ok. No big nasty cultures noted in the first fluid so that was a plus. Just thought I would update! Still on the strong antibiotics and if I don't get TR from this, I will be amazed. ( for TR see Dorothy post).
Ok, NM, ok to read now: Sorry you had crappy time with your lupron shot. Hope you can make your decision on the hysty. I hear good and bad things. Mostly good things as it is done much easier now. Still, recovery time. Dorothy....glad you are happy with the results. Kathy, hope your Thursday is as thrilling as mine...LOL! Hoping you gals (RainCG, and Claire) making Pea Soup are enjoying cause that's another thing that almost sets me into vomit mode. LOL! Lori, I think your weather is similar to ours. I liked the snowman on deck. Looks like it could be my DH after getting out of hot tub. Beer bottle would be in mouth though. I don't much care about any cancer findings unless it says guaranteed cure on the abstract. Then I might read. Otherwise..I will take what I was dealt with. WB Stanzie. Glad you are home with some good Rum. AStorm, your little WD likes tennis balls. Never met a dog that didnt though. Good Luck today my dear Bean! Well, time to say buh bye. HD0 -
Hello Ladies,
I was in Florida with my DH for the holidays and was sick with a cold the whole time. Just back today and have not had time to catch up on posts but wanted to say Hello and a very, very, HAPPY and HEALTHY NEW YEAR to ALL!!

Awww, HD, I am sorry to made you nauseous...the bacon stuff was for beans. I can see how a sour stomach would turn when looking at my pics. So sorry and I hope you do not get the TR. I have ordered a full body massage just for you. I hope you feel better.
Lulu, I say buy a bigger basket!! Cute picture. Ok, I am going to the pool for a swim, it is warm in here tonight.
Beans, where are you? I am here at the lounge and everyone has left. Come and join me in a toast to my girls!

Good evening girlz..........grabbing everything BACON and giving it to my husband! It would so love it if I could find him a bacon flavored candle! Dorothy, sounds like you are doing GREAT girl. I'll join you where ever you are! HD, how sweet of you to warn NM.....too funny tho! Glad to hear all went well with the extractions! Beans, your real doctors note are a hoot and with that, I'll take the guy on the left, but I'll share! Lulu, I'll have to take option B. Sorry you had sickness to deal with on your vacation, hope you were able to enjoy. I am ready and waiting for the bus, just make sure it's warm. Going down to -15 or something tonight with the wind chills, but then again if I have a hot flash, it will warm things in a hurry! So looking forward to the NYE party. See ya all in the morning. We will have to start the day with some Irish Coffee's.......wuddayathink?

I just lost my post!!!! So lets see if I can remember what I wrote...
Beanius...CONGRATS ON FINISHING RADS...that is a New Years present...
Dorothy....so glad that you like the twins...I remember being in the recovery room after my exchange and my PS taking my hand to feel how soft the implants were
I love pea soup....make it more than most other soups...sometimes with barley, or lentils, but generally with carrots, onions, celery and sometimes potatoes....
Its in single digits and snowing here in Denver after being in the 50's 2 days ago.....and not supposed to get out of single digits tomorrow....going to make squash/sweet potato soup to go with Shabbat dinner tomorrow night..whole roasted chicken, but not sure what else I will cook...also trying to think what I will bake..maybe rum cake....going to make potato knishes and chicken wings for Saturday night dinner...our usual New Years Day dinner...friends are having a day late NYE party Saturday night, but we declined as I rather stay home....
I haven't had any wine since the week-end...not sure why I don't have a taste for it....especially since I had been enjoying a couple glasses every night for several weeks...,.1/2 open bottle of cab sitting on my counter!!! DH and DS drink white wine or beer or good scotch (DH)...
Wishing everyone a wonderful NYE...I won't be able to partake in the party past 4 in the afternoon due to Shabbat, but I will be with you in spirit...but I will be back Saturday night
Hugs to all....Karen
