how about drinking?

Good morning, loungettes! I finally gave in and saw my PCP yesterday. Her first words to me when she came in the exam room door were "I doubt very much that you have lung mets. It's spring, you have asthma and I'm betting your allergies have kicked it up." Does she know me or what? 9FYI-she is a nurse practitioner, we worked together many years ago in a hospital, I was even her supervisor for a while once, and we have great respect for each other, so she wasn't being snide or exasperated, she was answering my biggest fear before I even had to say it.) Anyway, she was mostly right. I have asthma exacerbated by bronchitis, sinusitis, and otitis media (middle ear infection). So now I've got the steroids, the antibiotic and the codeine cough medicine, and actually think I feel better this morning. I'm pretty sure I feel better because I'm not terrified that I've got lung mets, but I'll take it. Sorry to go off topic, but I just had to say something where I know it'll be understood, so my thanks, ladies!
Husker-tell middle DD to hang in there, the sacrifice now IS worth it and then some once she finds her niche in nursing. Nursing is such a difficult area of study that we not only get a diploma, we get a special pin at the end, too. Make sure she doesn't skip the pinning ceremony, and that she buys a good quality school pin, she'll treasure it forever, even if she doesn't wear it often. I'm with you on the giving up stuff for Lent. I figure that with losing 3 years of my life, 2 breasts, a job, my credit rating, my financial security, a bunch of ‘friends' and everything else that I'm covered for life!Kymn-you were right, it was more than a cold, and my PCP scolded me for not coming in sooner. At least now I know I will be feeling reasonably well when I start the new job on Monday. Tell your stepdaughter for me that Nursing isn't like anything else she has ever studied. Not passing a course is not as bad as it is for other programs, because the passing bar is higher for nursing than other programs. Many excellent nurses didn't pass a class during school, or didn't pass the licensing exam on the first try. What she doesn't yet realize is that once she passes and gets licensed no one will ever ask about her GPA unless she is applying for a higher degree program. But she does have to understand that she will be sacrificing almost everything that makes life fun and entertaining during the school year. Learning that lesson at the start of the program is much better than not passing a class half way through or near the end.
Claire-you've made me realize that I haven't had ANY Easter candy this season. I wonder if that's worth and extra credit point on the E-Lab thread. . . .
Stanzie-does it ever get to a point where all the hormones ever cancel each other out? You must be a an amazing woman to manage all that!
Wahine-You guys are safe, I've got the bacterial kind of creeping crud, not the viral kind like I was thinking. No transmission through cyberspace. And now on a boatload of drugs, including codeine, which I am using sparingly, and drinking gallons of fluids just like my PCP said to. Hmm, I think she said something about orange juice and the like, so I guess I'll have to stick to fruit juice dwinkies here for the weekend. Oh, the sacrifices I make! I will add your brother to our prayer list. And you are right about nursing and the baby boomers-the average age of a working nurse in Maine is 51 right now. It's in the mid to high 40's across the nation. When all of us boomers start retiring in large numbers in the next 8 to 10 years it will happen at the same time that the baby boomers will be reaching the age of multiple medical problems and hospitalizations. Increased need, decrease number of nurses, gonna be a VERY interesting time. P.S. GREAT LAMPSHADE!!!!!!! Can we bring furbabies, too? Oh goody!
DorK-wasn't someone going to open a lampshade boutique for us? Well, lets working and see what we can find for everyone!
Beanie! Leaks in the attic? How awful! Would you believe I've lived in my house since 1993 and I've never even SEEN the attic? There's a hatch in the ceiling of the laundry room, need a ladder to get up there and move it, I suppose I should do that sometime. Maybe I'll find a hidden fortune? Nah, mostly likely I'll find dead squirrels.
Husker-How about a Sashaying competition? Or do we all need an Introductory Sashaying Class? I know I probably do! Hooray! Looks like you got the pic posting thing going! You're right to try another link when you get a "pic not available" thingy, sometimes the system is very picky. Welcome to the fun world of pic posting!
Wahine-Sorry I missed the party, but I signed up for an hour of the Prayer Vigil my church during Good Friday. I mentioned all of us and our families to the Big Guy while I was there. There was a station where we can light candles as we pray. I lit one candle as I prayed for my family, and as I was getting ready to light a second one as I prayed for all of us the candle lit by itself. I had not turned on the mechanical lighter thingy, I was just getting ready to and candle next to the one I lit for my family just lit up. No big flame or anything like that, it just lit as if a match was put to the wick. It was a new votive I had put in the holder before I started praying at that station. I believe God is hearing us, and chose to let us know in this quiet little way. And I am quite sure that God is blessing our little TGIF partays, and every other partay we have here!
Claire-fig/garlic/mustard sauce? What a unique combination! Speaking of steak, I ran into a high school friend this last weekend, and found out that she and her hubby have a little farm not too far from where I live. They raise cattle for meat and milk, sell a limited amount of meat each year, sell raw milk (which I have been trying to find locally for ages), do maple syrup "until the sap or the wood runs out, whichever comes first" and sell some honey, too. Her real passion is raising and showing rabbits; I actually connected with her at a rabbit show after catching up with her on Facebook. The prices they charge are reasonable, they take good care of their animals, and are Christians of the same ‘flavor" as me as an added bonus! I'm saving up to buy half a cow, and I'm looking for some different ways to cook it. Being by myself means that whatever I cook I'm usually eating for most of a week, and it gets boring. Need to experiment more!
Junie-LMAO with understanding at the idea of slimy fav tennie ball in the bed somewhere. YUCK!!! Poor puppy! And thank you, I am feeling better, or at least on a steroid high. Big dose yesterday, tapering down over the next week or so. I'm finding myself jumping from task to task and poor Sadie is looking at me as if to say "What's up with you?" Good thing she has her "doggy cave" (her crate) to retreat to. She knows I won't bother her while she's in there. But mostly she's chasing me around with her tuggy rope getting me to play tug with her every few minutes.
Hoo, boy, I can see how much I've typed, and I can see the steroid crazies are starting. Aught to make for an interesting weekend around the house here. Oh, well, at least it wasn't lung mets. I see the Tenders and Wenches have set up the inflatable church so we have a quiet place for our personal Resurrection Sunday rituals, and have set up an Easter Party place for the fur babies, and seem to be bringing in a lot of extra lamps to light up the place-oh, wait, they aren't LAMPS, they're lampshades! Time to PARTAY!

NM.....actually a good thing you have a bacterial infection. Because antibiotics work!!! I didn't get checked out, but quite sure mine was viral. So glad I am past that one. People dropping all over the place here in Seattle.
You will feel tons better when you start to get PAID in your new gig. I never had any panic attacks about cancer, but did worry plenty about money. I look at the financial piece meaning that I will have to work a couple of years longer than I planned. But that is OK. I am healthy and fit.
Major find with fresh dairy/meat and other goodies such as honey and maple syrup. Eggs are the thing I look for, and the yolks of the ones I get at the farm in North Bend are bright orange.
The dog story reminds me of the time I was hiking with a friend in Vermont and we had quite a number of dogs with us. We got caught in a downpour, so arrived back soaking wet. My mother's dog headed straight for her bed dripping wet and of course made herself at home. My mother was less than thrilled.....tired, wet dog snoring away and soaking sheets.
I am thinking of blueberry waffles for breakfast. Blueberries are frozen from a local blueberry farm. (Mercer Slough in Bellevue which is really cool because only about a mile away from the city centre with tall office buildings and major upscale mall.)
Sunny, so will get out and do a training ride. Think long and boring, but I think Mt Rainier will be out. Should be breathtaking. Did I mention the SUN?????
Supposed to be a lot warmer today as well. The thermometer said 60 yesterday, but think it was fibbing as still needed a hat and gloves. We'll see. Hopefully asparagus soon...... - Claire

NM, awww, sending you a big hug. I can only imagine the fear you were hiding in thinking you had lung mets, omg, you had to be sick inside. I am so glad you went to the "doctor" and got all bixed up. I had a nurse practitioner for years whom I just loved. She retired on me so I had to say good bye. She was such an awesome lady and gave me as much mental support as medical support. and that was b4 BC.Great pics. I especially liked the dog wearing the lamp shade who said "what are you looking at, I can stop anytime i want", I am lmao. Love your pics...as always, fantastic job!
Junie, you poor thing, I can not imagine living under that kind of stress with the fn weather. It sure is something that one can never get used to. Why this year is so bad with so many storms is beyond me but it sure has been an awful year and tornado season has just begun (I think). Very cute story about your doggie bringing his ball to bed. Gotta love them and their darn muddy paws too!
Well I am either going to go shopping with Risque and Kathy or have breakfast with Claire, blueberry pancakes do sound yummy!!
To all of you, have a wonderful Saturday and don't forget to drink! Love ya all!!
0 -
Nm, Thank God you went in and got tons of meds to make you better! I didn't realize you were worrying about mets....sure glad that was NOT in the scheme of things. AND how awesome that the candle LIT ITSELF......you are right about the guy upstairs looking after us! Love what GOD gave up for LENT.....so true! I love the same dog/lampshade pic that DorK liked....they were all cute though.
Anyone not wearing a lampshade is a rotten egg!!!
DILLIGAF?
RRW
0 -
ha, Claire is a rotten egg, nah nah nah nah na na!! I thought I smelt something bad. I know her partay could not have been as fun as ours. I just know it. Ha!
0 -
Probably.... Speaking of which, a reminder to COUNT all hidden eggs.
No lampshade as really tough cycling wearing one. Off to do the 30+ miles.
Speaking of mets.....I had to use the old "duck" analogy six weeks ago to get my brain straight. If it looks like the creeping crud, has fever like the creeping crud, and knocks you on your butt like the creeping crud. Guess what???? It most likely is the creeping crud.
See you LadieZ later...... - Claire

Thsnks for all the support, I tend to hide my fear of mets and then get bit in the a$$ by it. My PCP keeps saying that I can call the office and run things past her or the office nurse and get an more objective opinion any time I want/need to, and I have got to start doing that. This part of the deal does get better eventually, doesn't it?
One of the things I'm looking forward to about going back to home health care work is driving past all the little farm stands in the summer (I still know of a few that put extra veggies and such out for free) and checking out all the "Eggs for sale" signs! There's a family down the road that sells eggs, but they have a big following and I never get there before they're all gone. The bright, deep orange yolks are just so wonderful to see when you crack open a nice fresh egg.
Claire--your "duck" analogy reminds me of the one that gets thrown around in medical circles--"when you hear hoof beats think horses, not zebras." Meaning the most common cause of a set of symptoms is usually the correct diagnosis, don't go looking for exotic problems, it's usually a waste of time. Put another way, if the cough makes me reach for the asthma inhaler it's probaby because the asthma has been kicked up by something, like, oh, say, bronchitis or a sinus infection. I used to go through this every spring before bc, you'd think I could remember that now, but no. . . .
Well, all the nice good drugs are making me feel tired and thirsty, so I'm going to get some more juice and put in a movie. Ta Ta for now!

Beans, OMG I luv the sock monkey lampshade. Wish I would have found that! I give my kids, plus niece/nephew matching pj's every year for Christmas (ages 15, 17, 20, 20, 25, plus new 31 yr old son-in-law this year) and I found sock monkey pj''s for them last time. 3 boys were long-sleeved blue, two 20 yr olds girls were solid red footy, and oldest daughter got a night shirt. But all had sock monkeys. Totally random. Totally loved 'em, especially the boys. Once I get this picture thing figured out (between DorK and Chrissy I finally got it last night!) maybe I can post their pictures. Thought I had Picassa but that was the old computer.
NM, So moved by the candle story. I have had similar experiences (a timely rainbow most recently) that I just know are little god-breezes. Just a whisper to remind us...thanks for sharing.
I think a shopping spree is in order. We simply MUST be ravishing for the royal wedding, even if we are only watching poolside from the bigscreen. This is THE social event of the year, dawlin's. Let the displays (and the sashay parades) begin!

Naeb, neerg NaeJ, yay, I love the lamp you got me, tank you. You are sweet. And I love the sock monkey lamp shade for HD. So glad to hear that you have no water worries today. I hope you have a great Easter in Spokane!
Husker, very sweet story about the sock money jamies for the "kids". That is really a nice tradition in getting the kids pajamas. So are we practicing our piano for our duet tomorrow at the Easter Sunday Service? I love playing religious music but my fav is classical.
NM, I am glad you are on the mend, you were down for a week and that sure ain't fun. You need to be in top shape for the new job, hope you are up to speed by then, perhaps good you got the infection when you did, better to miss work now while you are DILLIagaF mode! I wish you all the best on the new job, it sounds like a purr=fect fit for ya! Cheerz NM and another hug for uhh, you know what....whew, I know that feeling.....
RW, where are ya, isn't it Pau Hana? Cheerz!

DorK, I'm in, what do you want to play? I have about 7 versions of "Christ the Lord is Risen Today", one is really rockin', which always shocks our small, avg age 65+ congregation! Maybe a duet of Amazing Grace, or Peace Like a River, you name it-I'll play it. I love duets, just never get much of a chance to play with anybody. Can't remember, is there a piano in the lounge? If not, let's get a big red one like Elton John uses. We need a bright color so everyone knows where we are (ha! like they can't hear us cackling a mile away!)0
-
How wunnerful that Kristy and Dorothy will serenade us tomorrah!!! Sounds like good selections, girlz. AND I like your idea of a bright red piiano Kristy! Can't wait!
naeB, you know it took me till I read DorK's post to figure out what you were doing.I was thinking "what in the heck is that word?" LOL. You found the poifect lampshade for HD!!! And now it looks like we have TWO sock-monkey fanatics......oh I know what our mascot is, definately a sock monkey. Thanks for all the nice wishes for everyone!
DorK, I am heeeeeeere! Had some shopping (duH!) to do,then we went out for asian food, a bit early for us, but then came home and walked our dogs. THEY LOVED IT! Just pranced around and had a ball....but really tired them out.
Oops.....DD called and her SIL is there now, so they will be here in a few minutes to pick up our car (sob, sob....I bought it back in '95!), but glad it will have a new home, and that we can just give it away. Will have pau hana after that.....
ChEARS!!!!

hello all, are we having drinks at the bar tonight. It felt like spring today what a nice feeling I even sat outside for half an hour but I think the chemo makes my skin more sensitive so I wasnt able to stay out too long. You know what we are missing here, a fire pit I love having drinks by the fire do you think we get all those hunks to quickly put one together for me . My brain seems to be checking out my typing is much slower and my memory OMG I dont know what is going on. I was reading through all the posts and I had so many clever witty things to say honest I did lol but now poof gone. guess you'll just have to take my word on it that I was really funny lol.
Husk I know those songs can I sing along with you, when I lived in Calgary I used to lead the worship team and run the childrens choir at my church. I havent been in a couple of years though, my last pastor did some awful things wont get into it and well it kind of put a bad taste in my mouth for church for awhile. I do miss it though maybe its time to look for another church family.
I am anxiously waiting for DD to head to bed so I can hide easter candy lol I love watching them look for it, my DS will help me hide this year and then pretend with his sister
I didnt end up going out last night was in bed by 10. Prolly a good idea had a couple of drinks at home and that was enough. When I am all done with this will have to head out for some dancing I love to dance.
Okey dokey have a great easter sunday love to you all
Hugs Kymn

Hi LadieZ.....
Just so gorgeous here today with temp finally above 60. Did a 30+ mile cycle and now hanging out watching the sun over the Olympics. WOW!!!
And some good vino.
Dorothy....hope you enjoyed the blueberry waffles earlier. Mine were delish. Menu tonight is saffron linguini with shrimp and veggies. Need to hold up on wine until I move forward with this a bit more. Will serve with salad.
I just froze one of my yummy steaks, and will have the other tomorrow. Usually have ham for Easter, but steak works just fine too.
In case you ladieZ think I am overly virtuous food-wise, I stopped for a hamburger towards the end of my ride. Needed the energy.
In the spirit of Easter, I saw a mother duck with little ones cross the bicycle trail and then waddle into some water at the side. They were beyond cute. Little fuzz balls. Watched them for about 10 minutes.
I am passing on the 5AM mass at church and will do 10:30. Much more civilized and I will let the others tell me about their crack of dawn inspiration. Agree with those who said they had already given up enough for Lent.
Happy, happy, happy Easter everyone. - Claire

YAY.... a late pau hana is better than no pau hana at all!!! IT is 10 pm and I am just having happy hour! Darn, on a new page already...and I am trying my hardest to remember what I wanted to comment on!
Kymn, we DO have a firepit! Had it installed a few months ago, at least I think thats when it was...might have been longer ago than that. Glad you enjoyed the weather today!
OK, someone posted a cute lampshade a few posts ago, but now can't remember who it was! Looked back a page, and it was Kymn's lampshade...so funny. And Beans, I really love the one you posted too! And Beans, SO GLAD you told me that was nonsense as I was trying to figure it out and felt pwetty dumb when I had no idea what you wrote!! LOL.....good one!
Anyhow, gotta start looking for our fancy-schmancy hats for the Royal Wedding. And get the champagne chilled b4 Friday!!! That will be fun. Think we should tape it so we can all watch it together on the big screen by the pool, at night???
No easter egg hunt for the g'kids tomorrow, and "IF" we want to get up early, will go to the sunrise service, since it is nice and casual. Youngest DD made all the gowns for a very formal wedding that was tonight.....just see she emailed some pics....can't wait to see them!!
Hoping you girls all have a WONDERFUL EASTER in whichever way you choose to celebrate it. Happy colored easter eggs and chocolate bunnies (godiva of course!) to all......
Luv youse,
risque wisque

Happy Easter everyone - off to church.... will catch up later... NM! So sorry for your terrible scare, who knew you'd be so glad to have asthma?

Good Sunday Morning, Loungettes! Happy Resurrection Sunday to my Christian sisters here, Happy Easter to all of my sisters here! I decided to skip sunrise service (ok, i didn't wake up until after it was over) and have decided to stay home today. Too many of the people in my little church are older and in frail health, I don't want to pass on my bronchitis germs to them even though it will be day 3 for the antibiotics today. Besides, my coughing will just interrupt all the special music they're planning. I can worship just as well here at home and God will hear my prayers just as well from here. Besides, it looks like the sun may burn off the fog, and I NEED to see some son or I will go seriously cabin fever on everyone!
I think a fancy hat party for the Royal Wedding is a great idea! We'll need some special drinks, too, won't we?
We do have a fire pit, I had forgotten about it. We need to put up signs or something pointing it out. There are so many special places here it's hard to keep track!
DOTD: Easter Bunny
1/2 oz Vodka
1 tsp Cherry Brandy
1 1/2 oz Dark Creme de Cacao
1 tsp Chocolate SyrupDirections
Shake creme de cacao and vodka with ice. Strain over ice in an old-fashioned glass. Float chocolate syrup and cherry brandy.0 -
Good Morning Loungettes! And a very Blessed Easter to all........
NM, Your hat is BEAUTIFUL...Love the Easter Bunny drink.....sounds like it would taste like a nice chocolate treat...so perfect! I thought of another DOTD today,,, the Tequila Sunrise.....
The Tequila Sunrise
This Mexican-style cocktail gets its name for the way the dense grenadine syrup sinks and then rises through the tequila and orange juice mixture creating the colors of a sunrise.
Ingredients
- 1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger tequila
- 3/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- ice cubes
- 1/2 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger grenadine syrup
- 1 slice orange, for garnish
- 1 maraschino cherry for garnish
Directions
Stir or shake together tequila and orange juice. Fill a chilled 12 ounce glass with ice cubes; pour in orange juice mixture. Slowly pour in the grenadine, and allow it to settle to the bottom of the glass (be patient). Garnish with a slice of orange, and a maraschino cherry.

Oh Kathy, what a fun shopping day. Good thing you brought that beer belt, cuz we DID get thirsty! And so so glad that Beans and Dork came with us. We shore had one helluva time!
Of course you can go OT NM. We are a great support group, and you have let others know just that. So sorry for all the itises, but glad it's just them and NO METS. So nice of her to just know, that was your first concern, without saying a word. Good luck at the new job tomorrow. We know you will rock it! So kind of you to offer that advice to Kymn's step daughter. OH I love the candle lighting story, of course He hears us!
Beanie Weanie, nice choice in hats. Me like! How sweet of you to get HD's lampshade, I'm sure she will love it.
Kristy, love your reference to little God-Breezes and whispers. So true tho. If Picassa is like Photobucket, you should be able to log into it from any computer. Are you a Betty Boop fan?
Kymn, we do have a fire pit and have had many many great parties by it. I thought some were featured in the video? And I heard all of your witty comments, so no worries.
NM, I am laughing at your bunny slippers cartoon. I have some of those, but use them as door stops, so my door handles don't go through my walls!
What a grand morning, having coffee in our little church and listening to Kristy and DorK play and Kymn sing the hymns. What a GLORIOUS day. Will imbibe in a Teq. Sunrise and an Easter Bunny later! YUM.
I know this is a special day, and I want to wish each and every one of you a Happy Easter and may you all have a blessed day. (Throwing in a little humor too)
Hugs to you ALL
P.S. HunkyD..........I miss you!

Oh, funny cartoon Lori! Ouch!!!! Hey, just remembered I didn't have ANY chocolate easter bunnies this year.....maybe if I imbibe (sp) in NM's dwinkie, it wll taste even better than a choc bunny! OH, wait, I see some easter baskets....awwwwww our sweeet TT's and Wenches hid easter baskets for ALL of us! I just spotted mine.....digging in right now!! Chomp, chomp.......just bit off the choc bunnies bottom.....LOL!

In the "real"world, DH just brought me an Irish coffee, with likker, and whipped cream, creme de menthe on top and cinnamon. OHHHHHH it is soooooo good! (This is after I already had an iced coffee and OJ).
