Contentment. . . comes as the infallible result of great
acceptances, great humilities—of not trying to make
ourselves this or that (to conform to some dramatized
version of ourselves), but of surrendering ourselves
to the fullness of life—of letting life flow through us.

Each of us has a purpose for living beyond our own survival and pleasure. Every individual is like a thread in a beautiful tapestry with a vital contribution to make, not only to the sustenance of life as we know it, but in the creation and development of more beneficial expressions of life.
John Marks Templeton0 -
Love all God’s creation, both the whole and every
grain of sand. Love every leaf, every ray of light.
Love the animals, love the plants, love each separate
thing. If you love each thing you will perceive
the mystery of God in all.

I am so late today....and it is a bit after 9 p.m. Every once in a while I get one of those days that just goes a bit on the wonky side time-wise. It was not bad day.....I moved from one place to the other accomplishing things, but I was not able to get back to my computer till now.
I hope you all had a really wonderful day. I did despite the length and amt. of work. I'm so gratified thought that once in a while.....i can stay busy for long hours at a stretch.
I'll see you all in the morning.
Love and peace,
Jackie

A garden that never died eventually would weary.
Robbed of springtime, unacquainted with the
extraordinary perfume that rises from the soil after it’s
had its rest, the garden that winter doesn’t visit is a
dull place. The return every spring of earth’s first
freshness would never be kept if not for the frosts
and rot and ripe deaths of fall. So when I go out
from the garden for the last time in autumn,
I leave the gate open behind me.

Hi everyone-
This is my first time posting- I am newly diagnosed - Aug. 1, 2013. I just had my BMX ( with TE) Aug. 23. I'm healing nicely and just had my drains removed yesterday. Yeah! I meet with my radiation onc today to see if I will need radiation. It looks as if I will because my tumor was close to my chest wall. I'm not sure yet if I will need chemo as my oncotype results are not in yet. As things progress, it seems as if I am falling into a sort of "gray area" with adjuvant treatments - so I thought a second opinion would be helpful. I'm currently being treated at Loyola- I have a second opinion appt scheduled Sept 25 at Northwestern Hospital with a different MO. Has anyone here ever changed dr and hospitals post surgery but before adjuvant treatments? I will stay with my PS at Loyola because of my reconstruction- plus I really like him! Does anyone know if it is a problem/ or had any experience with having one dr at one hospital but the rest of your dr's at another hospital altogether?
Thank you so much for any advice -0 -
Yes. I had been mis-diagnosed at U of Chicago. I sent my films and slides to Memorial sloan kettering. I woud urge anyone to do that, it's free. They found cells in the node and lymph invasion while U of Chicago did not, That meant their radiologist did not see, their pathologists did not see. Sloan saw. Recommended chemo because of that.
I went to Northwestern too and they just read the report that came from U of Chicago so their recommendation was the same as theirs.
I thought I was clear after surgery and it was a shock to hear what Sloan discovered.

Welcome bikergirl and Karsie. You have found a great group of local ladies who can help you get through this journey that none of us signed up for. Bikergirl, you are almost done with the hardest part. Rads are a piece of cake... just made me very, very tired in the end. Karsie, my BS and PS are both at Northwestern, but my ONC and RadONC are at Advocate. My PCP was at yet another hospital system but they are in the process of merging with Advocate. My dermatologist is at Mercy. My spine surgeon ia at Northwestern, but my other orthopedist is at Centegra. I like to spread the business around! Some of this is the fault of my health insurance, UHC. It is a nuisance, but it works. I know that my PCP feels like a clearing house of medical records.
I am staying pretty busy this week going to daily LE PT in preparation for ordering new compression sleeves. By the time I drive over there for a 90 minute appointment and drive back...with a stop for an errand or two, well... the day is about gone for me.
Doxie....yummmmmm. Hope you enjoyed your breakfast!
Thinking of planning a lunch gathering somewhere in NW burbs... maybe first week in Oct. Anybody interested?

Joan that sounds so nice--I'm (I think) directly West and I sti can't plan to far in advance LOL but let's see if anyone is going from my neck of the woods. OK

Joan who is your onco out of Advocate? Im with Advocate/Good Sheperd, starting with a guy in CL next week.

Joan I'd be interested in lunch but I do go back to work 10/1. I could maybe do 10/3 or of course a weekend. Darn work always interferes with getting to know the ladies in person.
Doxie I can't tell you how many times I almost put chili powder on my oatmeal instead of cinnamon.0 -
Welcome to bikergirl and Karsie. So sorry that you are having to travel this journey but we're glad that you found us. There are MANY wonderful women on this thread that can help you along the way! Hugs to both of you!0 -

Karsie I had my BMX and reconstruction at Northwestern and my chemo at Rush. It was simply a matter of which docs I preferred, convenience, and capabilities. There's pretty much a hand-off from the BS to the MO once you've recovered from the surgery. BSs don't manage chemo. Ditto with the PS and the MO. The MO will wait until both surgeons clear you as "recovered" and then you're done with the surgeons, except for fine-tuning and such for the PS. In my experience, the PS waited until chemo was done before doing his fine-tuning, but I had reconstruction and not implants and so the process may be different.
If you ever needed additional surgery and went to a different hospital, you would definitely want the records from your first surgery. Ditto if you change MOs. Your new docs would need to know what was done previously. Otherwise, there's not much overlap.
Timbuktu I've read your note before about the double mis-diagnosis. Pretty shoddy work. I'm surprised that Northwestern only read the notes because when I went to them for a second opinion they didn't even want the radiologist's notes, only the original film and tissue samples. Maybe they've improved their protocols between your time and mine. I hope so.

That's wonderful to hear about Northwestern! It's reputation is such that I would expect them to do the best work possible. It's good to know that they've changed their protocol. Thanks for letting me know!
I wonder if the drs differ? Could you pm me and let me know your drs name? The dr I saw has gone.

Welcome to the new ladies, however Im sorry to meet under these circumstances.
I would love to do lunch and meet up however my days off vary all the time, so let me know time and place and if Im not working I will be there.
Almost done with my fills, last one scheduled for next thurs and then will get a date for my transformation to she squishy side (I cant wait!!)
My PS is planning on using Style 20 Round instead of the anatomical 410's because of the amount of heavy lifting at my job and the fear of them rotating. Anyone have rounds?

Happy birthday Jackie. Your daily quotes are an inspiration and keep all of us together even if we for those of us that don't contribute much.
