New Want To Play A Word Game

Sometimes its hard for me to sleep there, as there is no a/c in my dad's unit, and if there are no tradewinds, then even counting sheep doesn't help. He does have a ceiling fan and tower fan, BUT when its really hot, it just moves hot air! Not complaining though, its nice to have a place to go to thats right on the beach(they bought this unit new in 1959!).

Wahine, hoping you have a great vacation with HEAPS of fun!

Thanks! Not doing any happy leaps yet, as its still several days away.....

If it's only days away, that IS something to look forward to! So try to sit a spell, relax, and prepare for the trip in a leisurely way.

OK 2ta, I will *try* to relax a bit, then later on will bring out the bells and whistles! lol
(I would love to find time to read back to months ago and see how our story line has evolved....its such fun how our topics change!)

don't worry wahine, you'll be the BELLE of the evening whatever you wear. Now it's time for me to go to bed, because the crew starts early in the morning. I've just about got the kitchen cabinets figured out. Yay!
0 -
Curveball, progress, yay! As you start unpacking, will you need to LABEL the cupboards?
0 -
Curve, does your new kitchen have enough room for a table?I bet its all looking so good, and hope it will all go smoothly.
0 -
no, the table will be in the dining room next to the kitchen. I think originally there would have been a breakfast table along one side of the kitchen, but in such a small house it made no sense to me to have two eating areas within ten feet of each other. It BEATS me why anyone would design it that way. I guess fashions change over time and after all the house is sixty years old.
Besides making more sense than having a table in the kitchen, eliminating the blank wall allows me to move the laundry machines from the garage to inside the house. My laundry area has always been indoors ever since I had a washing machine of my own and I'm soooo spoiled. No laundry in the freezing garage in the winter for me!0 -
That was a good plan to eliminate that wall. Besides having 2 tables so close to each other, that would involve a lot of seats (chairs) too. Glad you will have the inside laundry too, that is a big plus!
0 -
But, if you had lots of seats, you would have a place to land lots of asses Woops, Sorry!
0 -
Which can sometimes incur lots of gases.... double Woops!!! LOL, had to go there, your post made me crack up, Jane!
0 -
LOL, Wahine, I hope we haven't caused too many gasps! But with all we have been through for just being on this site, I think we can all handle it.

heehee, I didn't eliminate (knock out) the wall, I just eliminated the fact that it was blank! The kitchen used to be L-shaped on two walls with a window on the narrow side; by having the door and window change places with each other, it made the second long wall available for more cabinets and counter space. Voila--nearly twice as much kitchen without moving any walls! And now that the new windows have had their screens installed, I can leave them open on warm days without any worry that yellowjackets or WASPS will get into the house. Those buzzers terrify me! I'm much more afraid of them of them than of those silly water-stealing, hibernating imaginary bears.
0 -
OHHHHH now I get it! LOL, I thought you took that wall out. Glad the screens will help to avoid having yellowjackets and wasps in the house....they can get quite angry if someone swats at them and misses!
0 -
yes, they can. I heard they get very nasty and aggressive toward the end of summer because there isn't much for them to eat. Being hungry all the time will make anyone irritable, even a bug, and of course nobody WANTS to be around those creatures when they are in a bad mood.
0 -
Agree totally, I can't stand to have them around!!! I know they have a purpose, but it isn't to annoy us, is it?? lol
0 -
What is the purpose of wasps and yellowjackets (and fleas and mosquitos) anyway. That's like that routine Arsenio Hall used to have on his show--things that make you go "hmm". Maybe we'll never know. But now I'm going to think about something other than fleas and bees and stuff I don't like, because that's a thought pattern that TENDS to make me either irritable or depressed. Then I'm no more fun than a hungry yellowjacket.
Here's a more cheering thought: I got the kitchen cabinet selections written up and sent off to the designer earlier today. Woohoo! I'm not sure what happens next, but that has to be some kind of progress. And another: fall is coming, it's time to shop for flower bulbs!0 -
Oh its fun to spend money on flowers, bulbs, plants, etc.! Glad you got your cabinets ordered, you are making a lot of progress!
0 -
They aren't ordered yet wahine, I just sent the designer my choices of door style and so on that I want to get prices on. Then I will need to decide which option to actually use, and then I'll order them and put down a deposit. So you see I'm not quite out of the woods yet, but at least finally moving in the right direction. Everything was at a standstill for three weeks while I was moving and helping my mom move.
Meanwhile I have the garden to think about. I want to try to establish a group of plants that will self-seed and keep going more or less by itself, and then add perennials, trees and shrubs for accents. Some area will also be devoted to growing vegetables and fruits and I even want to see if I can get some edible and medicinal mushrooms to establish themselves. Maybe, just maybe, a greenhouse. I don't plan to have any really fancy stuff like rock gardens or intricately patterned flower beds or pergolas or PONDS with waterfalls and fancy fish. But the first step is to get rid of the lawn. I need to buy a big load of bark and a garden cart, and start laying out cardboard and spreading bark on top of it, to smother the grass over the winter. Mowing the lawn is not how I want to spend my time!0 -
Sounds like you have a good plan for thinking about what you want in your garden! I have enjoyed our yard and garden more this year as we have been home more to enjoy it, and because of that I have added even more flowers and plants. I would enjoy a fish pond but don't want the maintenance. But I love to watch when someone drops fishfood in a pond.....seems like tons of fish come out of nowhere to feed. One of our tv news stations has an outdoor area with beautiful fish pond that they broadcast the weather from, and in the winter there is a "pond cam" underwater and you can see where the koi are, hiding under the rocks, when its real cold. I love koi especially, and want to try to do a painting of them someday....

I love watching fish, and eating fish. But, as far as a sport, fishing is not my thing. Don't get me wrong, I love boating, just not fishing. We had the boat on the river last night and came across lots of police boats and fire trucks. Turns out some boater saw a body in the river. I guess they found it right after we passed by.

I love boating too, Jane. Haven't had a boat in years, and I do miss being on the water. But how awful about that deceased person in the water. I would hate to see a body or even body parts.
0 -
I'm with you wahine, I don't want to think about corpses, not whole ones and especially not if they are in more than one piece! But I'm OK with talking about boats. Hey zogo, have you ever been boating in any of the national PARKS, for example rafting in the Grand Canyon? I never have, but I did have a job once that required me to go by boat partway across one of the lakes at the dam where they generate electricity for the city I used to live in.

Wahine watch the big shark when you go

Oh, oh Sheila, is there something I need to be aware of? Do I need to bring a spear and go after it and display it on some racks? (only thing I could think of!)
Curve, that must have been an awesome boat ride~!

We could make a fire and grill the fish if only we could get a spark to light it.
(I'd love to go on that boat ride, Curve!)

I always used to hate that part of my job. When I first started working for the City on the land surveying crew, I was with the Engineering Department. All of our work was in town, so I got to go back to my own house every night. Then after I had been there about ten years, there was a reorganization which combined what had been separate survey crews for Engineering, City Light and Water into a single group, thus making us formerly citified folks liable to be sent out of town for a week at a time to do the dam monitoring (formerly done only by the City Light surveyors). At that time I had a great many cats--if I had paid to board them all for a week I'd almost have been working for free, so I used to come home at mid-week to refill food & water and make sure they were OK, but that meant I had to get up at 4:30 AM the next morning to be back to the dam by time to start work. So I never wanted to get that assignment, but I have to admit they cut me a break and never sent me to the other pair of dams, which was clear on the far side of the state. If I'd ever had to go there, it would have been impossible for me to come back home and care for the cats during the week--driving home and back to the dam would have taken longer than the time available between one workday and the next. Also, the boat weighed so much that getting it back out of the water was nearly impossible--back injuries waiting to happen, I always thought.
But I have to admit, the scenery up there is so breathtakingly beautiful, it might have left you unable to SPEAK.0 -
It does sound pretty to see that type of scenery from the boat. How about if we skate around the top of the dam and see what that view looks like?

If we see an awesome view, can we STARE?
