Usually I just watch, but I am actually voting this year for DWS!

Finally watched all of DWTS “Oscars Night” (after suffering thru tons of commercial breaks on Hulu) and it was fun! I liked how they wove several of the celebrities personal Oscar storylines into the show. Plus, i see we got a lot of good dancers!

It will take me a few more episodes to retain all the names and who ‘s dancing with who. Chandler and Brandon were smokin’! Ilona and Alan were fabulous! Not sure how pommel horse guy Stephen will do overall, but he’s perfectly paired with Rylee and I hope they stay in the competition awhile. Eric Roberts looked so classy in his sequined suit.

I like Julianna’s dress and hair. She seems to have toned down the “I’m an over the top, perky, hyped up on caffeine show host!”

It seemed to me the dances were short. There’s a little something different this season, not sure exactly what.

Okay, just to clarify spoiler alert, but I didn’t think the elimination was bad. I read that many people didn’t think Anna, who is a convicted felon, should have been on the show. At least we won’t have an ugly storyline about her running thru the rest of the season. Several years ago, I read the book one of her “friends” had written about her and watched the streaming series based on her story. Interesting, but time to move on.

I was surprised Tori went home. I was never a fan of 90210 or her reality show, but I thought she had more followers.

I'm not sad that either of them went home as they definitely wouldn't have gotten too much farther anyway. I just thought that Reggie & Eric were worse as far as the dancing (or lack of dancing) goes.

  • divinemrsm
    divinemrsm Member Posts: 6,621

With their lack of dancing content, Reggie and Eric definitely got a pass for the week and won’t last much longer! I always kind of crack up at the smoke and mirror efforts the professionals embellish around dance partners like this, trying to make some amount of movement look like anything!

  • ruthbru
    ruthbru Member Posts: 47,786

That's what they'd have to do if I were their partner! 😄

Well, that was fun! I can remember watching Soul Train when I was young, so recognized all the songs. Tomorrow night should be fun too. My impressions:

*No, because of the lack of dancing ability: Eric & Reginald

*No, because, to me, she has a creepy vibe: Brookes

*I liked, but did not love, Phaedra & Ilona

*I really like the personalities of Stephen & Dwight, plus I think they have potential to grow

*Joey, Danny, Jenn, and Chandler were all very, very good tonight!!

    wonderland Member Posts: 2,926

My top 2 favorites were Joey/Jenny and Chandler/Brandon. Both dances were Fantastic!

Eric and Reginald will probably be voted off this week. I liked Eric's ending with his wife and Reginald has a great smile.

Loved Iloni's dress. Perfect for the foxtrot.

Stephen looked uncomfortable but got better as the dance progressed. Maybe it was the wig lol.

I thought Brooks's dress looked weird on her. Nice arm extensions.

Dwight - I can't even come up with words on how I thought he was tonight. I've been a fan of his but tonight was rough.

Phaedra was just ok but her dance partner Val was great.

    Danny was cute. That wink!

Jenn/Sasha. I don't know. i mean, she is really good but to me something seemed off. That ending, though, was fabulous.

It was a good show, tho no true stand out dances. I think Reginald and Eric’s dances would make good “grandfather of the bride” dances. Like, if you went to a wedding and saw an older gent dancing like that with the bride you’d think it was so sweet. But, this is DWTS…..

Brooks’ appeal to many seems to be her looks, but you gotta bring something other than that to the table. Not sure if Gleb has what it takes to turn her into a dancing queen.

I generally like when couples dance the Viennese walz, it’s elegant and I like the type of costuming that goes along with it, and I thought Jenn Tran’s w Sasha was good.

Joey w Jenna and Chandler w Brandon- agree, well done.

    Still think Stephen’s a cutie!

Glad we get a second show tonight!

Going to post this before the elimination. These are notes I made during each dance.

Danny - looked stiff and awkward

Reginald - fierce looking. He's definitely an actor, not a dancer

Chandler - she looked like the pro

Brooks - really good, amazing ending

Stephen - much better than last night

Eric - he always sings with the songs

Ilona - I wonder if she's having her period now, she was off

Jenn - I didn't make a comment but she was good

Phaedra - My first thought is that she will be eliminated tonight

Joey - If he keeps up, he will win

I'll come back to see how I've done and compare with ya'll.

Well, I was wrong about Phaedra, but the correct 2 people were voted off.

Quick comment about what I wrote about Ilona. I know how physically bad and emotional I would get when I had my period and that was my first thought when she was dancing and really not into it. She looked wiped out.

    Another fun night!

They must have recorded Monday night's show last week but didn't air it until yesterday because you learn new dances that fast.

    My thoughts:

*Definitely the right couples were eliminated.

    * I enjoyed all of the other routines; even (for the first time) Brooke & Gleb.

*Stephen is a very cute metal hair guy!

*Apparently I missed something because I thought Ilona had her best dance yet. I also thought Phaedra did exceptionally well.

*my favorite dance of the night belonged to Joey & Jenna.

    ruthbru Member Posts: 47,786

I will have to watch a rerun of Ilona's dance. I missed the whole 'being off' thing!

  • wonderland
    wonderland Member Posts: 2,926

Ruth: Don't go by what I say lol. I'm not a dance expert by any means. I noticed Ilona's dance steps getting out of sync but I mainly noticed her lack of energy compared to her other dances. That's why I thought she was having her period (was that a bad thing to say??? I didn't mean anything weird about it). And Phaedra seemed off to me. I could be way off, though!

  • divinemrsm
    divinemrsm Member Posts: 6,621

Dwight and Daniella - HOT! I think they were scored too low.

Jenn Tran - HOT! Also scored too low. I loved how her paso doble made use of the entire dance floor and I loved her silver outfit. I am never a “Bachelorette” fan, never watch the show, am usually annoyed when they are DWTS contestants, but must concede Jenn’s got the goods!

Chandler, too, is a big contender; I look forward to her dances. Same with Joey.

wonderland, I don’t think it’s wrong to mention maybe Ilona was having her period. We women all know the ways that can affect us (yet it’s never mentioned) and that could easily have thrown her off tonight. I thought she was too hard on herself and overall, I liked her dance. Heaven knows we’ve seen thousands times worse routines from others over the seasons.

The right eliminations were made, and that will make for even better upcoming shows.

I like the dedication theme. I'm writing notes as I watch the show.

Chandler/Brandon - Chandler was beautiful in her dress. It was graceful, flowing. I think they are perfectly matched.

Stephen/Rylee - Nice touch that he started the dance on his pummel horse. Stephen connected with the tango and took charge. The audience even clapped along.

Danny/Witley - Goodness, Danny is strong! When he lifted Witney over his head…amazing.

Dwight/Daniella - Dwight is so tender with Daniella. I like the height difference. Loved the way it ended with his children.

Phaedra/Val - She was much better this week (in my opinion). Val let her do more dancing than just him doing the work.

Brooks/Gleb: I thought she was better last week, but that last lift was crazy! That's cool that her sisters got to dance in the beginning and the crowd loved the twerking. More power to them lol.

Joey/Jenna - Wow. Just wow. Joey can win this competition. He took control of the dance and I want to dance with him.

Ilona/Alan - She came back from last week! Ilona and Alan had a connection tonight and really made a difference in their partnership. Beautiful.

Jenn/Sasha - Jenn seemed stiff during some of the dance and yet other times she was spot on. Not her best imo.

I didn't know anything about Derrick's wife. She is a miracle. Their dance was pure Love in motion.

Based only on the quality of all the dancing tonight, I predict that Dwight will be voted off.

It just finished here. I am not sad about who went home. I never felt a connection with that person…..

    Here's my notes:

*I liked Mark as a coach, as opposed to Gene Simmons, who I didn't really think knew that much of what was going on.

*A very inspirational story about Derrick's wife.

*Chandler & Brandon-smooth with lovely lines

*Stephen & Riley-strong performance, he was the leading man instead of the student for the first time

*Danny & Whitney- I loved their dance & had tears in my eyes.

*Dwight & Danielle-He is so sweet on the dance floor & I thought his moves were fluid too.

*Phaedra & Val-it seems like he was doing most of the dancing.

*Brooks & Val-technically good, but I just don't feel the vibs.

*Joey & Jenna-great, smooth footwork, fun to watch them together

*Ilona & Alan-I loved it. She finally tapped into her feminine side.

    *Jenny & Sasha-beautiful dance!

Didn't expect that couple to get voted off!

Haha, wonderland, I don’t think that couple themselves expected to be voted off! I was perfectly okay with it.

Terrific show! I loved Carrie Anne’s pink dress. Chandler’s dress was equally beautiful and I thought Phaedra’s was a well.

I loved Chandler’s entire everything, the set, the clouds, the lighting, her dress, the sheer elegance of all the elements combined, and I’m not usually a fan of contemporary dance.

I, too, loved that Stephen started on the pummel horse.

I was very moved when all of Dwight’s children ran out on the dance floor to hug him. It was a great moment.

Brooke’s sisters were pretty amazing dancers!

    I loved Ilona’s dance.

I remember reading about Derick’s wife, Hayley, when she suffered the brain bleed, and I followed the story. It was amazing to see her progress along the way and I never thought she’d make such a full recovery that she would be again dancing with him. Remarkable. Their dance was utterly beautiful. Even dh had a few tears in his eyes.

I, too, thought Mark Ballas was a good judge. He gave great comments and suggestions on how to improve, and I agreed with all his scores. Of all the guests judges they’ve had, I like him best. I loved Derick ripping up the “5” paddle for Phaedra. It was all kinds of wrong for Gene Simmons to give her that score, and I love Derick for sticking up for her.

I am glad they were voted off because they were the least likeable (to me). I like everyone else who's left! I guess talent-wise, the next three off will probably Phaedra, Ilona & Dwight (that height difference is really hard to overcome). After those three, it will be really hard as everyone else looks & moves like dancers. I am looking forward to the group dances next week!

I'm typing this as I watch the show. Here are my thoughts so far:

Stephen/Rylee - Weird start to the dance (that was my first thought). He's so cute and strong but his timing was off in spots. My goodness, those flips were fantastic.

Jenn/Sasha - Sasha said in the introduction that he wanted the dance to be classy and elegant and it was. Lovely.

Joey/Jenna - Loved when he "played" the xylophone on her body.

Chandler/Brandon - Best dance so far. Loved the power in the dance. The costumes were perfect.

Phaedra/Val - She was a good Cruella. If Val is one of the professional dancers next year I hope he is paired with someone who is a stronger dancer. He is such a good choreographer.

Danny/Witney - Loved the fight scene. I was worried Witney was going to hit her head when he started flipping her around. Her head came too close to the ground for my comfort.

Dwight/Daniella - Cutest dance so far! He has the best smile and was having a lot of fun.

Ilona/Alan - Perfect song for Ilona. She is so strong. Impressed when she had Alan on her shoulders. Amazing. I stopped looking at the dancing when the donkeys started falling in the background.

Team Roar was Great! They really used Dwight's height to the team's advantage and it made the dance memorable. The female costumes were for sure sexy.

Team Goofs: Goodness, they were so good! All parts of it were spot on. All those lifts! I liked the way Ilona started it by having everyone tell their strengths.

Edited to add: Not surprised with the elimination.

Before I type, I have to note that I probably won't be able to watch next week because I will be in Baltimore getting ready to get on a ship for a Chesapeake Bay Cruise & if for some reason I am able to watch, I won't be able to comment because I can't get on to BCO on my phone (and I've tried multiple times!). I'm thinking they won't have an episode on election night. ? (Which will also be the last night on the cruise)…..just in case you wonder what has happened to me!

Anyway, what a super-fun night! I really like all of the contestants, and think the right couple was voted off. Now, for my thoughts.

*I think Julianne & Alfonso make great hosts!

*I loved the group dances; very fun and energetic & I think the right group won that round too.

*Stephen & Rylee- very fun & athletic. I don't know that they will go all the way; just not as smooth & on beat as some of the others.

    *Jenna & Sasha-very smooth & sweet

*Joey & Jenna-I thought their dance was so fun & clever. I liked it better than the judges did.

*Chandler & Brandon- very good & professional. I thought it was one of the best 2 dances of the night.

*Phaedra & Val-fun, but I didn't think it had that much content

*Danny & Whitney-very strong & well put together, my favorite dance of the night

*Dwight & Daniella- he has such a charming, bright personality…..I don't see him making the finals as the height difference will be too much. but I sure like him

*Ilona & Alan-she impresses me more each time, it will be interesting to see how far she goes.

I enjoyed reading the comments here about Monday’s show. Due to currently dealing with some mbc issues, I was only able to watch up to about Danny and Witney’s performance, I didn’t see theirs, a few other couples or the group dances. I’m going to see if they’re on YouTube or something.

Stephen was a bit off his game. It may cost him next week and he may be the next to go. I’ve been able to avoid news of which contestant was voted off. Gotta catch up on that, too. It may have been him!

I totally loved when Joey “played" the xylophone on Jenna’s body.

One more comment about the Disney themed show. It was more “grown up” than in previous years. They usually go way too “cute-sy” trying to incorporate Disney characters into the mix, which I disliked. In previous years, they’ve dressed grown men and women in such childish costumes and then do ridiculous dances, like putting square pegs in round holes. Monday’s show was an improve over that.

    Riuth, have a most wonderful cruise!! 🚢 💦 ☀️

I think we are starting to see who will be knocked off in the next couple weeks (barring surprisingly strong or weak performances); but there are quite a few really, really good candidates for the finals. I also liked that the Disney Week wasn't so cheesy. I am sad to miss the Halloween one because those are usually fun. I will be glad for an almost news-free week. This is the wrong thread to talk politics, but I am pretty much going insane!

I'm typing this as I'm watching the show and recording my immediate thoughts.

Ilona/Alan: Her hair looks great. Wasn't wow'ed by the dance. Maybe it was the song???

Dwight/Daniella: Intense. A big, strong man attacking a terrified, petite woman. I was scared watching it! This was his absolute best dance. I teared up watching Daniella during the judges' comments. Her choreography was terrifying.

Danny/Whitney: The flips/lifts at the end were amazing. Her snake costume was gorgeous.

Jenn/Sasha: Her best dance yet. Very emotional.

Joey/Jenna: Well, that was creepy. At first I didn't think the song fit the dance but then it grew on me.

Stephen/Rylee: Excellent and I think his best dance yet. So athletic and he was really into his character. They were both breathing heavily when Julianne was interviewing them.

Chandler/Brandon: Graceful, even as she was stabbing him with a knife.

So many 10s have been given out tonight and well deserved.

It was hard watching the dance-offs. I can't watch 2 couples at the same time and feel comfortable making comments on them. I did like the way each couple choreographed the dance to the song.

The end of the show hasn't happened and I already have my prediction on who will be voted off tonight.

Well, my prediction was wrong! Surprised by who got voted off.

Edited to add a personal note - My son and his partner had a beautiful baby girl today in the wee hours of the morning. So exciting!

We were tired out from traveling, so I watched DWS in the hotel tonight & by a miracle, I am able to get to BCO on my phone! I really loved all the Halloween dances & have nothing but praise for everyone. Each contestant has improved so much and all seem like really nice people too. I was surprised by who was eliminated.

I don't like the dance-offs either. It's like judging apples and oranges (which is what one of the judges said).
