Agree about the dress.

I thought it was a very good first show. There was nobody whom I automatically crossed off my list.

I thought it was a very good show too. I voted right away for Jack Wagner..I just love him in anything he does..lol. I didnt like the dress Martina had on...made her look too frumpy. I guess she and Melissa will be one of the first to go. I think it will be a fun season.
The Divine Mrs....I dodn't like the tweets either!!
Hugs and prayers

I guess my mind just works differently. At the beginning I noticed a couple of tweets, thought what are they doing that for and it wasn't until you commented on them that I realized I didn't "see" any more. I must have mentally turned them off.

I only noticed the 'tweets' close to the end of the show, but they were distracting. i was trying to watch the dancers and read the tweets at the same time. Of course I watch the news crawl on the bottom of the screen when watching GMA while listening to what they are talking about.

So hard to pick this year who is going home! I pretty much root for my favorite pros most of the time, so I guess I'll be about that. Maks, Tristan, Kym...
I have a funny BC/DWTS story. Last December I was getting my first MRI post Dx. I'm a big girl and couldn't fit inside the first MRI machine with that darn breast coil. I flippantly said to the tech that Hope Solo (Max's partner last season) couldn't even fit in that machine! The tech said to me.."oh, do you know who Hope is? [Like well, yes, she's on tv twice a week..sheez]. She's a good friend of mine and we're spending the weekend together." It was the weekend before the finals. I asked her how their relationship really was (Max & Hope)...the show was making a big deal if you recall. She said it wasn't as bad as the show made it out to be, but then basically she said Hope thought Max was a t . . l. Ofcourse, I pretended I was in Hope's corner, total fan

Kam - that IS a funny story!!!!!

Max is rought, he and I would never make it.
I think, this week, that Martina could be the one to go home only because every one else was so very good. Her dress did her no favors, I agree. Usually, there are half-and-half possibilities to stay and go at this time, not this season!
As for a winner this season, I think it could be Driver because he can move, he looks good w his partner, he is so popular. But I think his partner is out of line!!!! wrapping her legs around him at the end w such enthusiasm for a job well done, omg, I am not a prude, but the man is married, show respect for his wife and be a lady, esp if you feel you have to go stage half neked. Showing my age, but there is a limit and don't want to deal w that all season. Perhaps Len or the show will tell her to stop, like they told Max not to smack his partners on the arse. Things don't usually bug me so much but that did.

Yeah, the running leap, leg wrap thing is outright vulgar. Glad that wasn't done back in the day. What do you do, practice with someone?
This is our second season watching DWTS, and we love it! When cruising, we love to hang out and watch the dancers, usually there's one or two really good pairs.
Max, a total ego head with a horrid attitude. He should have been fired last season, immediately. His outrageous disrespect only smeared his own self. Let's see if Max can maintain the good manners seen so far this season.
Great dancers! But joyful Sherry won't last. Martina was stiff! Jack Wagner is generally fab but in great dance competition. The lady in sunflowers is my personal fave.0 -
A rerun of the first night was on TV last night, so I watched it all again. I liked the sunflower lady and 'Erkel' best. She was elegant and beautiful & he put in all the extra touches to make the dance a story.

I sometimes have a hard time understanding how some of the dancers are "stiff." I would think the beat of the music would get them in gear. Maybe they are just having to learn too much too fast. They do go from dead stop to 90 miles an hour on the show.
Essa I even noticed the leg wraps as extreme. I am a huge fan of musical theatre and have seen lots of dance styles over the years. There is just a huge difference between suggestive and obvious. There was just nothing left to suggest.

I am one of those who would be stiff, I'm afraid. That's why I'm a spectator near, rather than on the dance floor. I take dulcimer lessons and an upcoming 3 day workshop is "Rhythm and Repertoire". There are several of us needing a little help with getting the beat so this class was tailored for us, lol.
I admire the contestants that take this on. The commitment required and the display of what
is or isn't mastered would be intimating.0 -
Oh MisippippiQueen, I didn't mean fellow BCO'oers. I was referring to the contestants. I can't imagine anyone agreeing to being on the show who would be stiff.
For you I hope you have an amazing good time with your rhythym class. It should be great fun.
I love the hammered dulcimer. I was just at a choral concert this evening that had a Harp prelude. Really nice.

Gingerbrew, many celebrities are all about how they "look" and "image". I remember when Kim Kardashian was on a few seasons ago and she was awful, leaving early in the competition. Chris Rock made the comment (about her) "All that ass and can't shake it!"
Yeah, lots of people aren't coordinated enough to move to the music. Oh, yeah, I'd be one of them!

I am one who does well regarding keeping beat with the music (former marching band experience) but I have taken an exercise class for cancer survivors and there are a couple of ladies who really try doing the low-impact aerobics very enthusiastically but have no rhythm.

I have a really good sense of rhythm, so I notice when contestants are off the beat, or can't seem to follow it. The way I look at it, to win the contest, your body must turn into an instrument that just blends with the music and the beat.
DH was a drummer in a band for many years. He, too, has a great sense of rhythm.
For years, we took Ballroom Dancing classes. We looked pretty good as long as the instructor was there to help us.
Outside the studio, we sucked.
Once, we went to a wedding reception and could not remember ONE DANCE we had been taught. We were so embarassed, we were hoping our teacher had not been invited to the same wedding. Even today, we can't remember a single step.
SO - rhythm alone does not always equal great dancing!!!!

Great show, again! I think Martina will be ther first to go. It was painful to watch her dance. Yikes!
0 -
They sure gave her crummy outfits too!
My favorites tonight were Katherine, Donald, and the Disney guy.
0 -
I agree Ruth, her outfit looked horrible. She struggled so much tonight.
I haven't picked one yet to pull for but there are so many that are good.

I think Martina will be first to go. Great show tonight!

We thought Martina should have ben able to do some of the quicker footwork because of her tennis career. Sadly I think we were wrong.

Although I fell asleep before the end, and missed the last 20 minutes, I can watch on abc.com to catch up. Agree that Martina was my least favorite, I think she will be the first to go. Katherine was a hoot, shaking her 'naughty bits' LOL.

ruthbru, I like the same celebrities. I thought Donald & Peta danced beautifully, Peta's outfit this week was lovely, and I thought their scores shoulda been higher.
Katherine, also great, but sometimes Mark Ballas is a little to spastic with his dance moves for my taste, and I think it detracts from his partner. He should tone it down just a bit to allow his partner to shine.
Poor Martina. I never care for those rumba pants (all covered with fringe) on ANYONE, whether it's a pro or celebrity. Also didn't care for her bright make-up & red red lipstick. She is so much more attractive in more natural colors. Whoever was in charge of her look missed the mark horribly.

It also seemed like a night for all the women's boobs to be on display more so than usual.. The show must have got some new technique or tape to make them stick up like that. Brooke Burke's yellow dress with all the cleavage was....well, I just didn't care for it at all.

DivineMrsM - I agree about Martina's outfit and makeup. What where they thinking? Got to love her for going along with it...such a trooper. I really think there is to much talent this season and she won't be able to keep up with them.

badger - Katherine is such a delight! She is a good dancer and sooo funny! I think she is going to make it to the finals.
This is a very fun season, especially with all the eye candy!!!

Poor Martina....we have an old fishnet decorating the side of one of our sheds.
As soon as I saw her top, that's the first thing I thought of.
But I really, really, REALLY admire her spirit!!!!

I also thought of fish nets when I saw her outfit last night. She does have good spirit but I don't think she will make it farther.

I missed today's show because DirecTV is down but did get the results online. I'm not surprised. She did try but ballroom dancing is just not her. I like her attitude and do give her credit for trying,

It was the right decision, for sure.
