    West Coast ladies, do not read until after you have watched!

    The judges did seem a little too jolly & the show a little too rushed for me. I guess I like some more of the background that others feel is filler. Anyway....I came in late on Brant so can't comment, but my favorite guys were Corbin and Jack, who seemed light on his feet, peppy, and happy. Sadly, the football player did not trip my trigger and Bill can not dance. As far as the ladies, Elizabeth and Christina had the lovely dancer's lines, Snooky and Amber were really fun, and can really dance too! Valerie...what can be said? Fantastic, positive attitude...she gets the 'You Go, Girl!' vote from me.

    (I was in too big of a hurry and accidentally voted for Jack three times instead of once!).

    I hate to say it, but I was underwhelmed by the season opener.  Too many new professionals.  Strange costumes.  Sharna had a gold outfit on and her football partner wore a grey suit.  It looked like Cheryl Burke was wishing she had the football player and not Ozzy's kid.  You know, Cheryl loves her fb guys.

    They should have paired Snooki with Mark Ballas.  That would have made it so much more interesting.  I was laughing out loud at Bill Nye, he was funny.

    I couldn't take my eyes off Valerie.  What a gal; amazing.

    They all seemed a bit off, like I said.  Even Carrie held up the wrong paddle; she's never done that before.

    Haven't seen it yet, DH pirated the TV when he got home from work an hour ago. It's on DVR.

    PS (can't remember who asked): Len got married recently, maybe that accounts for the change?

    I think Valarie was far better than most of the "more mature" contestents we've seen.  Loved her.  I wonder if Bill Nye might just squeek by on the popular vote.  I thought Corbin was best of the men.  Not sure about the women.

    Well I was thoroughly entertained, l didn't like the people in the outside bleachers, I'd be mad if I got tickets and got stuck out there, just sayin'.  Loved Derek and Amber, Snookie danced to one of my favourite Spin songs "Wild One" so my toes were tappin', poor Keyshawn I don't think he did well and loved Valeries joie de vivre, now to start voting!!!!

    Hey Ruth I just voted and you popped up on my facebook vote "friends who voted" cool ehSmile

    Keyshawn dances with a new professional and that's one reason he didn't do well.  If he had a seasoned pro like Cheryl he'd do much better.  I think the producers could have done a far better job matching celebs with professionals.

    One of our ABC stations comes out of Pittsburgh, so last night when I tuned in at 8 pm, there was a big announcement across the scene: DWTS won't be seen tonight but will show tomorrow at 9 am.  I was like "Wha-a-a...?"  Then I realized they were televising the Pittsburgh Steelers game against Cincinnati Bengals.  I flipped the channel to the Youngstown station (Cleveland Browns fans there) and watched the show.  It was funny, I was so startled there for a minute!

    I have it on tape to watch at my leisure so I can ff through the commercials and all the judge's idle patter.  Glad it's down to just a two hour show now.

    I was also glad they got rid of the running up the stairs and chatting with Brooke thing. That was a real time waster. I was so impressed by Valerie. What a trooper she is! I thought the Glee girl did great. I was very impressed by her.

    I was able to watch it Monday night and loved the format where they don't run up the stairs to wait for their scores and they are sitting by the dance floor watching the others dance rather than in the 'bubble'. Bill N was funny but I don't think he will last long. I loved Valerie she had so much grace.

    this summer I upgraded my TV to an HD set and got a new HD cable box that has on demand, I just checked and Dancing with Stars is available free on Demand so if I happen to miss part of it I can pull it up and watch it later.

    My faves were Corbin & Karina, Amber & Derek, Elizabeth & Val, and Valerie & Tristan.

    Contemporary was Corbin's style of dance so let's see how he does with Jive next week.  Amber can dance baby!  Derek always gets a good partner.  You can tell that Elizabeth has had dance training and Val's choreography was beautiful.  Valerie made me cry by saying it's good to be alive and better to be dancing.

    Neither Bill can dance but Carrie Ann was spot on when she told Bill Nye the Science Guy that he's a shining example of what makes DWTS so special.

    Loved Peta's hip fringes (cha cha cha!) and hated Sharna's gold pants (not flattering).

    I've only been watching for a few seasons but wondering if here's a formula for the stars: people from reality shows (Snooki & Lisa the Real Housewife); country (Bill E, Kellie P, Wynonna); Disney kids (Corbin, Zendaya); football (Keyshawn, Jacoby, Donald Driver); nerds (Bill N, Andy Dick); and plus-size girls (Kirstie, Amber).

    Skaters and gymnists have done very well in the past.  Some of my favorites have been skaters.  Most Olympians do well.

    Olympians have that training mentality, they're used to working out for long hours, also football players are also used to long hours of training, I've got to give props to someone like Jack Osborne who doesn't dance, is scared as heck but goes out and does it.

    Just watched tonight - we had it on DVR.

    The quality of the first-night dances seemed very good overall, but the whole show looked more like a frantic dress rehearsal a lot of the time.

    And I'm sorry... but can someone tell me WHY Brooke Burke-Charvet is still there? She still looks like a total amateur,  reads from her cue cards like a total robot (even checking them out in the middle of a sentence), and has less spontaneity than a cardboard cutout of herself. Other than that...Laughing

    Really, I was pleasantly surprised by ALL the contestants.

    Ha, ha, Blessing, great Brooke description!  And I agree, it seemed like a frantic dress rehearsal at best.

    So far Corbin and Brant are my favorites.  I would rather have seen Bill Engval go but agree that Keyshawn is not up to the standard being set this year.

    Poor Keyshawn, the victim of a new professional.

    I'm still having a hard time getting into the show this season.  Corbin, yes, he's great, but he has a dance background.  High School Musical was one of the best song & dance movies ever, and he got lots of training there.  So I feel like it's an unfair advantage over the others.  My favorite thing is when someone who've never danced before gets out there and suddenly they have all this talent they never knew, like Kellie Pickler or Donald Driver.

    Also, I liked Elisabeth, but she too, has a dance background, remember "Showgirls"?

    I thought Carrie Ann's dress was fabulous, that gold was gorgeous on her, the style, her hair, she was best dressed nominee last night.

    This season it seems they're using taped music for some of the dances, and they never did that before, did they?  It's just all this stuff they did to slash costs on the show, it's like we went from the mall to the outlet center.

    And the judging seems to be too happy.  I swear they must have gotten feedback about how sour the scoring can be, so the judges were told to lighten up.  It still seems a bit too perky for me!

    Well, I'm a huge Breaking Bad fan, and have been immersed in that for the past several weeks, so DWTS is such a switch from that show.  Will still watch DWTS, just waiting to see if I connect with the newer format.

    I feel like it is too rushed, and the scoring is too high for the performances. People are cut off when they try to make comments. I don't like the canned music either Frown.

    And what was the significance of Steven Tyler of Aerosmith being in the audience?  Any?  Did they even acknowledge that he was there?

    My faves this week were Elizabeth & Val, Christina & Mark, Corbin & Karina, and Amber & Derek.  Great choreography!  I just love to watch Val dance, he's so intentional and sharp.

    Brant & Peta smouldered but I just don't like them.  Too staged, maybe

    Liked the comment about gentleman Jack.  Cheryl brings out the best in her partners.

    Attagirls to Leah & Valerie, and attaboys to the Bills.  Snooki/Nicole did surprisingly well.

    Sad to see Keyshawn go but he has no musicality and knows it.  He had one of the best lines of the night when he said to Carrie Ann, "I don't even bob my head in the friggin' car" LOL.

    Not sure what was up with Steven Tyler other than he's famous and in camera range.

    They should move along at a better clip earlier so they don't have to rush at the end.  Less of Brooke making inane comments would help, and so would reining in Bruno.  He's pretty risque and sometimes downright raunchy.  Not that I mind but it's a family show.  See ya next week!

    I liked Corbin, Amber, Christina and Elizabeth and give props to Jack and Valerie.  Loved the piece with Tristan.  Also didn't get why they were flashing on Steven Tyler.  I think it will be interesting when Julianne comes to the judging table, I wonder why Len is going to be staying in the UK, mind you flying back and forth every week is taxing on the body and he's no spring chicken.  I have tickets for October 7thSmile

    OMgosh!  You are so lucky!  Last year in Vegas they had a DWTS show with some previous stars like Joey Fatone and Tia Carrera, ect. which I got to see...Lacy Schwimmer was also in the mix (what ever happened to her?) and it was superb.  Carson Cressley was making all these hysterically double-meaning adult jokes and even my husband thought it was hysterically funny.  How cool for you to see the real thing live!

    TheDivineMrsM - I think the camera shows ANYONE who could be called a celebrity if they are in the audience. Maybe Steven Tyler was there to support his friends the Osbournes? I also think Corbin has an unfair advantage, having so much of his past experience focused on dance.

    ~~~
    We DVRd Monday's results and watched last night. Yeah, I think it was a good decision to send Keyshawn home, and he was certainly a gentleman about it. Although, had he been partnered with a more seasoned professional, who knows if the outcome would have been the same?
    I told DH that even though Elizabeth might have been in the bottom 3, no one would want to see Val leave!
    It's SOOOO refreshing to have Tom Bergeron chat up the couples while they get their scores instead of Brook.
    Like the animatronic people at Disneyland, I keep expecting her to blow a fuse or have a battery go dead in the middle of a sentence, and watch her just keep smiling at the camera while smoke drifts up from the back of her dress. What a robot!!! It seems that she can't even finish a simple sentence without referring to her cue card. GAH!!!Yell
    Yeah, the faster pace makes everything seem rushed...but it's nice to not to have to listen to the judges ramble on and on and on...
    Hope Bill Nye is o.k. He managed to hurt himself at the end of his dance last night when he tripped on the cuff of his pants, fell, and partially tore a ligament in his knee. He might need surgery.
    No real favorites for me yet, but I sure do love Amber's spirit. Of course, being paired with Derek is a big factor, too...
    Congratulations to the ladies who are going to the show! Can you hold up big signs and say "Hi!" to us? (Uh, probably not....)
