Dancing with the Stars

Ugh. That Abby as judge is the worst decision DWTS has ever made. I loved when Maks said he didn't care about a thing she said. I howled out loud in my living room when he said that. Now I'm hitting the mute button whenever she speaks.
So far tonight I'm not wowed. Maks and Meryl's dance didn't impress me. The one dance that I found incredible, tho, was Amy and Derek. I was simply blown away. How do they keep knocking it out of the ballpark week after week? Wow, oh wow.
Now they're doing the double dancing....

Since people are still watching, I won't say anything specific...... except this: Abby is a bitch!

it's just starting here, I can't stand that Abby Lee Miller she has such a grating voice and is so full of herself, this is going to be painful I just know it, bleah.......

waiting to see... Mr 2TA has command of the TV, good thing it's on DVR

If that Abby knew 1/2 as much as she thinks she does she would still be overrating herself by 100%.

Yes, the voice on that female judge thing is horrible. It almost makes me feel like the guy who had seizures whenever he heard Mary Hart's voice on Entertainment Tonight (or Kramer on Seinfeld when he spoofed it) listening to her, I just want to have convulsions. The audience didn't like her a bit. Then, after Max spoke his mind, she scored their double dance very low while scoring everyone else much higher, so the beotch took it out on him, very unprofessional. I sure hope they don't ever do anything like that again. Plus they snuck it in there without telling us, no advanced warning, just here she is tonight. I also get a newsfeed from a Pittsburgh tv station on my FB page (I live an hour from Pittsburgh which is where she's from) they posted that she was on DWTS and the comments were overwhelmingly critical of her.

She seemed to be in love with the sound of her own voice. She didn't score consistently. Tried to flirt with the men, judged people on their footware, just horrid. I think Bruno was getting mad because he said, 'Shut Up' quite a few times throughout the night. Blech!!! I wish they would just go back to the three judges who actually know what is going on.
I would have to agree that Danika was the person to send home. Suprisingly (to me, anyway). Candace has really stepped it up. I think she let herself out of the ' this is how a Christian Mother should act/dance etc.' mindset and is just having fun & it shows. Really liked her & Charlie's duo dance, and thought it was the best that either one had done.
Really, anything could happen now!

I had fun watching the other judges faces when Abbey talked. If you have it in tape, watch it again. Every time she opens her mouth, at least one of them cringes and or rolls their eyes. EVERY TIME! Sometimes the camera goes fast over them but you can see it.
Danica always seemed a bit hard to like. The couple dance they did wasn't as much fun to watch as the others.
Maryl seemed off tonight in the couple dance.
Charlie and Candace couple dance was amazing. She really had to trust him but of course he's been throwing his partner around like that only on ice skates! LOL
James dropped Amy during practice that footage was scary. But that couple dance was beautiful. However during elinination, Peta's face was so much "we're going home" It was hard to watch
Good show

Just my opinion, Candace is getting a bit too cheesy for my taste, too big a smile and all that kind of stuff...I know a woman like that in real life and I don't really care for it. I also didn't care for her hair all messy in her face in her couples dance and I thought her and Charlie looked kind of clunky together. But the judges WERE making faces, they were simply tolerating the guest judge is all, they were professional tho and didn't make too much trouble with her.

I really enjoyed last night. Surprised that it seems Meryl has Maks wrapped around her finger. Is it my imagination buts he seems a lot more touchy-feely (but in a nice way, not inappropriate) with her than other dance partners in the past? Nice to see Maks as a nice guy for a change.
That being said, Abbey was anything but nice. Seemed like she was there just trying to promote herself and her "girls". And what was going on that they gave so much face time to the girls? They could have shown others in the audience too.
I think Danica's makeup in the first dance was a bit on the scary side.
At this point, I think all the remaining dances are pretty good. I would still like to see Amy advance to at least the semi-finals.
Anyone know that's happening next week?

Maks definitely is wrapped around Meryl's little finger and I think it's great.
I have "liked" Amy Purdy's Facebook page, so every once in awhile, she'll post a picture and I read some of the comments and they are 99% overwhelmingly positive (always one or two saying she gets sympathy votes). But the positives are so emphatic, I am wondering if she has a big enough fan base to take her all the way to the mirror ball trophy. I think she and Meryl are each other's toughest competitors.
Here's the photo Amy posted today. These two look pretty comfortable with each other...

i don't know if anyone noticed but at the beginning of the show when they were all lined up for introduction Meryl reached behind her and patted Maks on the leg, like she was reassuring him. I did think Meryl was a little 'off' it was her feet and maybe it was because she was barefoot. Amy, wow and that partner dance was fantastic. I don't like Abby Lee Miller, you know the old adage 'Those who can do, those who can't teach' but I will give her one thing and that is how she acknowledged how good Derek is.
I was discussing the show with my friend and she was saying how she thought Charlie was going to be the 'one' because of the Olympic Gold but it's Meryl who is the stronger of the two, and imagine how their week is, the practice dance with different partners then of a night the skate together. And another thing I'm reminded of is the old Fred Astair story, where someone was saying how he was the greatest dancer of all time and someone piped up that Ginger Rodgers did the exact same dance except backwards and wearing feathers, I think the women don't get enough credit and Meryl is a great example as she really has brought out something in Maks.
Don't know what the theme is next week but the guest judge is Kenny Ortega, in case you don't know who he is, he choreographed Michael Jackson's Thriller .

Meryl definitely has that feminine mystique...whenever they film her and Maks in practice, I notice how she always toys with her hair in some way, casual, but I'm sure she knows the effect it has on the men around her...she uses her powers for good. I think because she's a world class athlete, Max feels honored to have someone capable of keeping up with the physical demands required in the competition. She's also younger, and I bet in some ways he's feeling his age....before having her as a partner, he always acted so macho, like he was the hottest and knew it.

I like the guys, but love both Meryl & Amy.....thinking they might be the top two.....?????

Maks said something about keeping something special they had going on after competition! I think he and she may have something.....
Hbchrryl, I think that quote was "backwards AND in Heels!
I've always worried about the female pros. They have to trust their partners in very risky moves. And although the celebrity woman get tossed around, their pros are reliable catching partners.

Well, I am going to be mad no matter what, as one of the best three dancers is going to be off! Gosh, I wish the votes counted for the week, not the week before! That is really not at all fair!

Wow oh wow. Terrible elimination.
Okay. Here's my rundown. First, tonight was the best Erin Andrews has looked, loved the hair and wardrobe. For me, the disconnect is with her height. She towers over most of the contestants and professionals. It looks awkward. That height works well interviewing big football players but looks out of place on this show.
I missed Candace's first dance, but loved the second one and was surprised it was so good.
I think poor Charlie didn't get paired with the right professional. There's a certain pizzazz that Sharna lacks.
I bet the judges were kicking themselves for giving Meryl low scores last week and made sure to score her high this time (well deserved, tho) so if she wasn't eliminated, she could get to the finals.
Amy performed another amazing dance. The Michael Jackson dance James performed wowed the judges but I didn't care for the way Peta was so over the top in it, so I didn't like it. I also didn't really like Meryl's skirt in the last dance, so froo-froo I couldn't concentrate on the dance. Still a great show.

Candace's first dance was weak (which she, herself, said...she let her nerves got to her).
I thought Charlie's first dance was beautiful.
I wonder who picks the costumes? Do the contestants have any say in the choices? I am thinking maybe not.
Next week is a two night elimination, so at least it will be more fair.
I did love Kenny as a guest judge: a positive teacher/judge!

Yes, Kenny was good. I think they once said the professionals actually have a say so in the costuming since they have an idea of what they want the dance number to look like. Oh, here's an interview I found with the designer: http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/7025/interview...
I loved how Derek & Amy were in white & black on the first dance so her dress matched her black prosthetics.

But remember the horrible outfits they put Martina Navratilova and Diana Nyad in?
0 -
LOL they said they have input. NOT that they listened! LOL
Yes I was hoping the final would have been Charlie, Meryl, Amy, James. Candace could have gone home.
And D I agree that Meryl's dress was distracting.

Wow you know someone has to go but don't you just hate to see someone as good as he is go, I guess it comes down to the fan base and those who vote, I have a friend who complains about who goes but she's a devoted viewer who has never voted once, me I use my house phone, cell phone and FB app.
LOL on the Martina and Diana costuming, yes they were horrible, and that second outfit Meryl had on was really distracting, I kept wondering what in the heck she had on underneath, was it jeans, was it leggings...

I found this article about Diana Nyad's dress:
"It’s nerve-wracking to even think about performing live on Dancing With the Stars, especially on the premiere when you’re not used to it, and the least you can hope for is to be comfortable in how you look. Unfortunately, Diana Nyad’s Season 18, Week 1 Foxtrot dress led the normally confident woman to feel self-conscious and even “mortified.”
TV Guide asked Diana how she felt about her performance and she mentioned how “that dress didn't do me any favors.” As she explained, “I don't want to be vain. Look at me, I come out of the ocean after 53 hours of swimming. Do you think I care what I look like? ... But on this show, it's different. There is glamour to it. ... When we were fitting it, I said, ‘My God, I look so fat and matronly in this thing. This is not me at all.’ As I said, I don't have those dancers' bodies, for sure, but I've got a pretty damn good body and I was mortified in that dress. I've never felt like the girl over on the side who doesn't belong, and I actually did feel like that a little bit that night.”
She doesn’t want that to happen again, so she got together with the wardrobe department and said, “If I get a chance to go another couple of dances or more, don't ever let that happen to me again."
TV Guide asked if she thought the dress had an impact on her performance, and it sounds like it really did upset her. “I woke up in tears Monday night after the performance. I went home and I felt like I did Henry proud, I did myself proud. And I went to bed and woke up at 3:00 in the morning crying, because I'm proud of this body. I created it. I'm strong, and I represent those 64-year-olds out there who are young for their age, and I am young for my age. I don't compare myself to the young, crazy sexy ones, but I've got a great body and that dress didn't do me any favors. And I'm honestly upset about it and angry about it, because it's part of the show. It's part of the presentation.”
Poor Diana. She’s such a huge fan of the show, and it had to be frustrating to be given such an unflattering garment for someone with her athletic build. The wardrobe department is filled with magicians to be able to create so many outfits every week — it’s like Project Runway! — but we can’t blame Diana for wishing she had a better debut look. When you want to show people that being over 60 doesn’t mean you have to look “matronly” … this is not the right dress to make the point."

Thanks, Ruth for the info about Diana, poor thing.
It's getting down to the wire. Personally, would love to see Amy and Meryl as final two, Candace and James seem a distant second to me. Truthfully, surprised that Candace hadn't been eliminated last night. She must have a strong fan base.
Yes, I would love to see dancers eliminated on that from that day's dance, but it wouldn't allow the audience to participate (especially with the time differences between east and west coast).
Next week shall be very interesting.........

Very interesting to read about Diana.
It surprises me that Candace would have such a big fan base having not been on TV for years since Full House and she's not that good of a dancer. But I also think being partnered with a great professional like Mark Ballas can make all the difference in possibly getting you to the finals. Remember how far he took Bristol Palin?
So hard to believe the finals are next week already! I loved how Charlie, upon being eliminated, immediately said he was going to support "Team Meryl". Class act.

Do you think religious groups are banding together to vote for Candace?
0 -
ruthbru, yes, that thought has crossed my mind.
0 -
The main reason Bristol got as far as she did was her 'voting block'. (In fairness, that can be said about quite a few contestants over the years!)

well I am a voting block of 1 for Maks
