I find ALL your posts to be informative, intelligent, and thought provoking. You are an asset to to this and all threads.
Tell me no lies and keep me thinking.

Sunflowers, you sound like Dana Carvey's "Church Lady." Hehehehe.
They're just angry because 1) We don't believe in their theology; 2) We don't want their theology/mythology running our lives; 3) Their politicians are crashing & burning in a most embarrassing way; and 4) We're mocking the most stupid and anti-American of them.
I'm sorry, but when you legislate vaginal probing, you're "asking for" derision. How does that fit in with a breast cancer discussion board? Because the far, far right want to take away access to things that affect women's health. And their all-male panel is discussing ways to do just that.
Give me a frickin' break.
Edited to correct spelling. I HATE Arimidex!

Welcome, gardengumby!
I'm a born-again-Christian with serious doubts. Regardless of religious affiliation, the discussion here is always interesting!

Scoot - that's so funny!!!! I can't remember where it was online, but a Pic of Dana Carvey as Prez of the USA - well, guess we won't be allowed to discuss anyting but "non religion" on this thread for Atheists...tee, hee..
Too bad, because I have always found Humanist Theology, Paganism, the real Celtic love of Nature to be so healing - truly respectful of all living creatures.
Well, as Scoot said MY THOUGHTS so perfectly, I'll ask all to go one post above this & read her Wise Words - if someone doesn't like what we are saying, why are they reading this thread???? But then guess Lindasa already answered that one...
HAPPY TODAY - go out & ENJOY NATURE, kiss a flower, hug a tree, CHILL....

Here is the rule regarding religion and politics.
You agree to respect differences among participants in race, religion and sexual orientation, among others. You acknowledge that Breastcancer.org respects all political and religious beliefs and agree to limit your discussion of politics and religion to their role in your physical and emotional health.
I can't remember what was on the posts that were deleted. If we broke the rule it was just a small break. A warning without deletions would have been appropriate because then we all would have been able to see exactly where the posts violated the rule. As it is now, we can discuss politics and the effects that the opinion of politicians have regarding health and health coverage. Birth control, family planning and the treatment of women are IMHO health issues. However, I still don't understand where the deleted post violated the rule.
Exactly my point, notself! Thank you for stating it so clearly!!
SoCalLisa - I completely agree that one should abide by the rules as outlined by the administrators of an Internet site, such as this one. I am also more than aware that one can start their own website and voice whatever opinions one chooses. I don't, however, feel it's out of line to question the decision made to delete the posts in question.
As I said before, I'm sorry but I don't remember exactly what Linda or Sunflower posted. Seems like I recall a reference to the GOP but I can't be sure.
For what it's worth, I've seen many religious and political statements made in the Komen / Planned Parenthood debate that I'm surprised were not deleted. In fact, I found them so disrespectful that I simply stopped reading the thread. So, I'm sorry I don't understand the deletions in this thread?
As I was reviewing my post I saw some other posts pop up sooooo ....
Sunflower - do you remember what you posted?
notself - your messages from the mods is very confusing. Hopefully they will explain them to all of us.

Listen All,
Religion and politics are okay, as long as the discussions can remain respectful, and not break our Rules of Conduct.
Please refrain from reporting posts when you simply disagree with a remark, as long as the post does not break the rules. Opinions need to be tolerated.
Thanks for your understanding!
So, Mods ... Can you please tell us why there was a need to delete the posts? If we do not know where the line is how can we avoid crossing it?? An additional question, please. I'm assuming that simply the reporting of a post does not cause the action of deletion of the post. Is that correct?

Thanks Scoot - to be honest one of the things that attracted me to this discussion thread was the possibility that there would be some discussion about current USA politics (scary stuff) and then after I posted I see that there have been "issues" with people trying to block dissenting thought. I don't get it.
To think that prevailing political wind can not have a VERY serious impact upon our health, our lives and our treatment is simply putting our heads in the sand. I couldn't care less what someone believes - they can believe the moon is purple with yellow polka dots - but if they want to affect my choices based upon that belief - then it gets personal. To me, things are getting pretty personal.

Thanks to all for your support. I must admit I feel a bit intimidated right now.

PlantLover ... another member(s) reporting your post will cause an automatic 'Removed by the Community' deletion.
The mods do review it after the fact though and decide if it was appropriately reported ... or not. From their latest comment I have to assume that they have already determined that some of the reports were unwarranted. I'm hoping that they will reinstate posts and remove any bans that resulted.

notself -- I hope you don't feel too intimidated. Here's what I think happened: a very small number of individuals (or "membernames" -- we're not supposed to have duplicates, but I've seen a known duplicate post recently!), maybe 5, "reported" your post. Your post was automatically deleted "By the Community." There is a glitch in the automatic software which generates a "you have abused your reporting ability" email when in fact you have BEEN reported. I will PM the Mods and ask them to review this.
In the meantime, (((((((hugs))))))

Welcome gardengumby! Quite right ... we atheists would be the first to be burned at the stake wouldn't we. Does affect your mental health a bit
notself ... don't be intimidated. That's the goal of course but we've all been there/done that before and the mods will get it straightened out.

notself - do not DARE to feel intimidated. If you were nearby, I would pin on you, my favorite pin which says: "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Eleanor Roosevelt"
I don't remember what I posted - probably something like what Scoot wrote, but I have so many of those who in the past have "reported" posts they didn't like on my "ignore" list - I guess it was just time for many to start reporting posts again..alas...
Surprised the mods didn't suggest that folks who don't like some of the things discussed on this thread didn't just use THEIR ignore buttons? A little silly to think of attacking people posting an an Athiest thread - not as if our lack of adherence to someone else's theology hurts anyone? Except maybe those not as self confident in their own beliefs..
Me, I'd prefer to read notself.....

SunflowersMA,
I love that quote by ER. She is an American hero whose face should appear on Mount Rushmore or at least have a statue on the Washington Mall. http://www.udhr.org/history/Biographies/bioer.htm
"Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small
places, close to home - so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any
maps of the world. Yet they are the world of the individual person; the
neighborhood he lives in; the school or college he attends; the factory, farm,
or office where he works. Such are the places where every man, woman, and child seeks equal justice, equal opportunity, equal dignity without discrimination.
Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere.
Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world."Eleanor Roosevelt0 -
...working on fixing everyone's accounts that have been falsely changed.
Thanks for your patience.

ER is a real hero. When Marion Anderson was not allowed to perform in a Washington DC theater in the 1940's, ER arranged for a SPECIAL PERFORMANCE on the Mall, think it was in front of the Lincoln Monument = HUGE audience. Glorious performance - it's on CD if anyone is interested.
Another of ER's quote I love : "Do one thing every day that scares you."

Thanks, Sunflowers - I love your screen name, too.
Like you, I am a fan of Eleanor Roosevelt. There are (I fervently believe) a lot of people like her in the world, but few who had/have the world stage, as she did.

Is everything better for folks' accounts?
Please PM us if there is anything else. And again, please only report posts that break the rules, not posts in which you do not agree.
Thanks All!Your Mods0 -
Sunflowers, it was the Daughters of the American Revolution who would not allow Marian Anderson to perform at Constitution Hall ... Much more than a Washington DC theater. I idolize both Eleanor Roosevelt and her husband.
(I lurk here but seldom post ... Am in complete agreement with sentiments expressed here, and in fact posted here frequently many years ago but left the boards and returned later because of stalking ... Sadly, plus ca change....)

Hi Everyone!
My post on the previous page was deleted by the thought police. There was nothing wrong with it, so I wrote to the Mods and they reinstated me. I was banned from this site for two hours. It was very upsetting to me to be banned, so Notself, I can understand how you feel.
I want to personally thank the Mods for their good discretion in going through the posts that were deleted. They rock and are doing a fabulous job.
I also want to welcome Gumby! I don't think I'm an atheist either ... I just don't know what I believe anymore. It's a little confusing as I know I don't believe the fairy tale anymore.
I love this thread ... the gals are always respectful and the conversation is enlightening!
hugs to all,
Bren

Wow, I didn't know that was how it worked. Thanks for informing me! Unfortunately it looks like some of the posts are now marked as deleted by Moderators.
So, unless the mods reinstate the posts I guess we'll never know where the line is or even if the community thinks the line was crossed.
I'm so confused and disheartened by all of this. However, I'll try to be still about it for now and move on!

Plantlover - there were a couple other posts on the same page that previously said "deleted by Community" that are now back. By the way I REALLY like your Mary Anne Radmacher quotation!0
-
Gumby ... My post was one of the ones that were reinstated. I really wish people would not hit the delete button just because they don't agree with something that is written. It also makes no sense to read this thread if you're not atheist or agnostic.

They're just angry and taking it out on us, that's all.

Whoop! When I see this forum at the top of the 'active" list, I know my fellow atheists are up to something! Religion and politics. They do go hand in hand, and definitely affect our health (like my blood pressure!)
And people who cannot tolerate a difference of opinion on either are drawn like a moth to a flame, rather than just ignoring. They're not reading to open their minds, they're reading here to keep us from saying anything further.
Happens on many threads, actually. But usually with an eye toward dissolving misinformation, not disallowing opinions.
Scoot's right. There's a deep, underlying anger, that's not about breast cancer...

I think it's great that people who are not necessarily atheist or agnostic read this thread. I hope the comments here make them think that perhaps it's OK to listen to different POV. The people who attacked this thread by means of report post buttons are in the minority and have serious problems with differences of opinions. Perhaps they are very insecure in their own beliefs and don't know how to deal through civilized means of communication.

Someone questioned earlier why there isn't a public statue of Eleanor Roosevelt. I question it too, given that she placed easily in the top 10 of Gallup's Most Admired People of the 20th Century.
I'm probably one of the few (maybe the only?) on this thread who actually remembers Mrs. Roosevelt. She passed away when I was in high school. I often wonder (since so/too much weight is given to physical characteristics) that if she had been beautiful, and with a great speaking voice, if there wouldn't have been statues erected of her all across the U.S. She epitomised all that is great and good and possible.....on the other hand, she did have the "disadvantage" of being a woman <sigh>.

I really think it's just anger. They can't express themselves to us in person, so they use the report button. It's the only personal "attack" they have in their arsenal.
