Good Friday morning to all - TGIF...

I did not know there was a lifetime limit on certain chemo drugs... can you tell me more?   Today is my wired for sound day and I will do some retail therapy, and grocery store to stock up for the steroid crash tomorrow.   Early Bird bingo tonight and then a meal at either Red Lobster or the Irish Pub - or take out from Boston Market.  I love bos mark Chicken Pot Pie with corn bread.  Found it once in the frozen food section, then it disappeared OR chemo brain could not find it again.

Anyone getting a flu shot?  I always got in the past and have never had the full blown flu.  Also had a pneumonia shot 2 years ago.

I pray for all of you collectively and individually as I read your IOS. It often overwhelms me to hear of so much pain and stress with this dang blasted disease.   As much as I try NOT to obess over it, it still is the main focus of my day and life.   I carry wipes and jel to use whenever I touch something potentially germy and the grocery store has wipes at the cart stand.  I grab 4 and as I go thru the aisles, I use one to grab items as I put in the cart or to open the frozen food doors.  - does that qualify as obsessive compulsive????

Time for a shower and off to the stores.  HUGS and THAT SUCKS for those who are not so good today.  May the weekend bring a smile and no pain and no stress.    HUGS,  Nancy

A ginormous, "Well, Crap!" and THAT SUCKS!" to all. I'm really too worn out today from all the extra BENADRYL yesterday and still not being able to sleep because of the steroids. At least with the ABRAXANE I won't have to deal with those.

DH had a super crappy day yesterday too. He was halfway home and got called back to work because on of the idiots broke the main machine used in the plant by again not listening when told how it's supposed to be done. DH spent several hours fixing the d@mned thing and headed up to pick up ds #2 and #3. It was already about 7 (they had football practice & a soccer game--another mild IOS for me because I had promised to go to the soccer game and didn't make it). When dh arrived at the school, he got ANOTHER call that the same freakin idiot had done something ELSE to the machine and now FLAMES were shooting out! Well, too freakin' bad...we already don't have gas in this county or the 5 surrounding counties and even if it was available, it's too freakin expensive...

The real IOS here is that when dh went to start his car after loading up the kids, it wouldn't start. It's been acting up for a while. He finally gave up on getting it started about 9 pm, then had to wait for ds #1 to come pick him up. DS #2 and #3 didn't think about the fact that maybe they should start working on their homework while they were just sitting there so they came home hungry and upset that they would have to stay up late to finish homework. Evidently, it is the mom's job to ride the kids about doing their homework because dad never even asks them about it--although he does gripe at them if they bring home a bad report. UGH

It is pouring rain outside....I was really looking forward to the high school football game tonight. DS #1 is in band and is section leader. They are supposed to run through their program at halftime tonight because they have a competition tomorrow. This would be the first time they've performed the entire program.  WIth this rain, dh is going to have a cow and insist that I can't go. GRRRRR I don't mind the rain, but it had been getting down into the 30's at nighttime here, so I am sure I wouldn't be too comfortable. I'm afraid the competition will be out tomorrow anyway--the schools can't get fuel for the buses either. So, "Rain, rain, GO AWAY!...don't you know I had PLANS?!?!" Of course, I say the same thing about having plans to cancer on a daily basis. GRRRR

Luann, I got your PM and am thinking about it. I've got lots of plus/minus to go through...I'll fill you in later. I hope your pump gets adjusted right today and your pain gets better.

You know, I've been having way too many IOS lately. Either that, or I just have a bad attitude. Autumn is my favorite time of year and I was so looking forward to it. Now, it just seems like the SH!t keeps on hitting the fan and there is just too much garbage going around for everyone. It used to be that all the major good things in my life happened in the fall. Now, not so much.

    ((((HUGS))) y'all!

    Diane

PS: hair is still holding tight, although perhaps a few more hairs than normal are dropping. UGH! If it's going to go...I just want to get it over with!

    nancy,

O forgot to comment on the OCD thing...I think if more people were careful about germs and the nastiness they spread the world would be better off. Of course, I'm a huge "Monk" show fan--mainly because I understand.  I absolutely think the grocery store and buffets are two of the most scary-germy places in the universe outside of a hospital's ER bathroom.  Oh man...I think of the number of times I've seen a baby sitting in the front seat of a shopping cart and using the handle as a teething ring............OMG!  Then I think...baby....diaper....diarrhea......AND I PUT MY PURSE THERE?  AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Oh ladies!  Fear of germs!  While on treatment yes, but please! Don't turn into my brother! Omy!  He stops by and I always make sure I've changed the handtowels in the bath and kitchen and as needed between.  First thing in the morning.  When he's stopping by (he's from out of town), I always change them just before he stops.  He still grabs one from the cupboard!  Too funny!  It's gotten so there are days, I think...what would he do, if I removed said 'clean' towels from the cupboard, so he HAD to use one hanging up! Too funny!

But yes, the grocery cart, and gas station counters, gas pumps...public PHONES!  UGH!  Used to ream the kids and dh about washing their hands upon entering the house in my past life.  Poor family now has my obsession and just DO IT!  Good thing as they are all less ill, but still it's a great practice for everyone.

Sorry and BIG THAT SUX to you all still in treatments, dealing with CAR problems and so on.  I have an old caddy, and need new tires, and the battery is ready to fall out of the car.  On the fix-it list for dh, but when he's home from 6pm on night to 5 am the day after one day off, it's hardly time to do all the repairs.  Hate to even ask...but the car is the next day off priority.  I can deal with the electric locks not working and one window in back not working well, and even one back door that won't let friends out if they are in the car, but geepers....

Okay...that's not an IOS, as it's only minor, but I'm hoping all your cars, finances and medical suckage clears up REALLY QUICK!  Seriously!  You ladies deserve it more than anyone!  So KARMA!  COME To these ladies in a good way and clear up their SUCKAGE!

So sorry you are in a pissy mood.  I have those days and have no reason either.  Other than I woke up!  Hate that too!, not the waking up mind you, but not knowing what sets it off!  I swear it has to be the lack of estrogen, but at what point does our mind get used to that!

{[hugs}} to help give you a boost up and out of that mood! :)

Man, by the time you get to the bottom of reading you forget what everybody said.  Geez, I am only 45 and memory is that bad....big that SUX!

On a good note, my pain doctor is wonderful!!!!  He said he wants to be aggressive in getting my pain under control and wants me to be as pain free as possible for Vegas.  He upped my meds today and will do it two more times next week if necessary.  They just won't do it all at once because it is not different that dropping high dose of narcotics on you at once with no warning.  I don't mind having to go back as long as they stop the pain!

Whoever works at the dress shop, boy do you need to find a new job.  That boss sounds to overboard.

Diane, you just need to stop it!!!!  If you keep having all these problems you will never get cut any slack (I hope you can read the sarcasm in that!)  I understand about wanting to see the kids play sports and do band.  I really enjoy watching the kids excel and do so well.

Debbie, your feelings are actually pretty normal.  You just went through a huge ordeal that you had to hold your head up and be positive for everyone else.  Now that it's over it is like coming down off a big high.  You kind of crash and burn, you deserve it.  Take the time you need and you will get yourself back together.  Cancer is not a like getting the flu.

As for flu shots, I never used to get them but since my mets dx my onc wants me to have one every year.  So I take my flu shot every year and have had a pnuemonia vaccine also.  I figure it is one less problem to worry about.

For those of you out of gas, wish I could ship you some, but I don't think UPS or USPS likes you to mail that kind of stuff.....go figure?????

Sorry to those I missed but I tried.  I hope everyone has a good day!

    WhaSux???

I have taken to keeping notes when I catch up--so as long as I have time & can find a pen I will look like I have beaten my chemobrain!!!--NOT

Wish---yeah for being ONE-eyed!!!!!!!! LOL Wish I could say the same! I LOL at your bro!

AKA---You sound so much better-even in print-it lifted my spirit to feel that! I always get a flu shot at onc's suggestion. Your germaphobia sounds careful, not paranoid--Y'all forgot the Germ incubators we call Schools! That is why I am no longer working----I miss the kids.....

Christine--dog ass tired?? I'm LMDATAO!!! (get it??)

Nicki---you keep making me laugh--I NEED that!

Harley--if you squeek really loudly will they oil you?? I make so much noise (read: demands) at my onc's I never have to wait for much....I have a rep, but I don't mind!

Sherri--I OWE thousands of $ for my share of tx, but I don't think it will ever get paid off! I pay them a set amount every month & was told as long as you do that they can't quit you or send you to collection. Told dh that he should NEVER worry about paying it off (he'd have to live to 235 to do it anyway!) & my kids can NOT inherit that debt! Am I off the wall for thinking this way & NOT worrying?? I figure the 80% sure payment from our ins has financed a new wing--why would they worry about what I owe?????

Debbie--HUGS- I had 4 rounds of A/C with first dx---now over 30 rounds of gemzar abraxane & avastin not to mention the many nuclear injections for scans-----I am amazed at what our bodies CAN withstand! YOU are my hero!!!!!!!!  Evanovich???>  LOVE all the Plum novels--have you heard them on tape---NJ accent & all????  I think the drugs you questioned were all chemo drugs for mets.........Big hugs for your feeling weird---No matter how scared you are during tx SOMEONE is "taking care of you."  After chemo & tx finish you feel "cut loose" & sorta left to your own devices--When chemo finished I felt the same way I felt when I took my first baby home from the hospital--are they REALLY gonna send me off to do this by myself??? I don't know if I can do this!!  BUT YOU CAN--------give yourself time. HUGS

Diane-- You may want to check with your onc--I got steroids with abraxane (but I was getting other drugs at the same time) I requested that they halve the steroids--still worked, but I had fewer jiggy se's! When My dh lets the kids slide I call him "daddy glad hand" Makes me fume that I have ALWAYS had to be the bad guy in this house!!! GRRRrr   you have had enough ios's---BELIEVE they are DONE!!!!!

cmb & wish-- I think those bad days are our subconscious working over time! I refer to it as a buzz in my brain & I often don't hear it til I have felt tearful, angry or weird for a few days---SUX

    LuAnn---thought of you today while I was watching my kids' in their Homecoming parade! I would have cried too if I had not JUST had an IOS that really burned my butt;

I was sitting on the curb by the HS waiting for dh when the ROTC kids surrounded me & started swearing & talking trash---having worked at the hs I found their CO & mentioned to him that the kids were not representing the uniform & did not act respectfully when swearing, etc. This man who has ALWAYS been very respectful turned on me & told me their parents have had them all these years & he has only had them a few weeks & ppl like me telling him that Piss HIm OFF!!!!!  HOLY CRAP! I was mad--so I just said "well then, I won't be bringing anything else to YOU"  I'm still po'd at him-- I still believe it "takes a village" & I was NOT riding him, but was most respectful-------sheesh I got blindsided & it sux

This was TOO long!!! But I may not be back much for a while---busy weekend & next week--then off to Vegas for a week-----you all be well & stay strong

I think I'd have gotten that CO's name and gone over his little head!  HOW dare downmouth to a civilian no less!  What an A$$~  I also would have had to say something to these kids about their representation of those in uniform and how you don't appreciate that they were wearing uniforms of great men and women and surely they don't fit the mold to be worthy of said uniform! UGH!  So sorry it put a damper on your parade. :(  Idiot people, for sure!  If the man can not do his job, I'm sure there are many wanting it, he can surely step aside and allow someone with a more personable attitude take the reigns at public functions.  Dumbcoff man! :(

Hope everyones' days are going well this weekend.  I'm stuck home, no family and feeling lowly....hate weekends alone. I can do the weeks, but the weekends are way too long and quiet! :(

Last year I asked about the shots b/c I would be doing treatments, and they said no.  I thought it weird, but stayed healthy inspite of it.  We shouldn't have to worry about that now if we are out of treatment, correct?

    LuAnn,

I am that person who works at that dress shop, but not for much longer.  I will have to write her a letter of resignation, and turn it in.  I have started job hunting.

    Nicki

I am going job hunting next week...  wish me luck!  That woman is a nutcase!

OMG!  I think I would have just DIED, if the tech had gone and had the radiologist to do my u/s!!  I was just telling my dh that it makes me feel a little bit better, to know that another woman is doing these tests...   AND to have that rad. say that there is no reason that they can't take care of it with surgery!!  I don't know what I would do if that happened to me!!

As it was, when I had the mammo and u/s which found the bc, my gyn said " the radiologist tracked me down, and I pinned him to the wall, and asked him if he was confident that this is as bad as he thought!"  WHAT?  She was HAPPY to tell me how AWFUL it was!!

Debbie, I don't have to wait three weeks for the u/s.  I had it yesterday, but I have to wait til Oct. 7 to get my results.  That is because I was originally scheduled for my u/s on Oct. 2, which was two weeks wait, but it was because my dr. ordered a mammogram by mistake!  When I found out, I called his office and got it straightened out.  So at first, my follow up was scheduled for Oct. 10, but now that I have had the u/s, I didn't want to wait til Oct. 10 for my results.  So I got it moved up earlier... my surgeon only has office hours on Tues. & Fri.  I could have gotten in to see him on Oct. 3, but my dh & I are going to go to Cocoa Beach for an extended weekend getaway.  So much has happened in the past 6 months, we need a break.

Sorry you are sore.  My onc doesn't do any tests, either, unless I am having symptoms so in that case, I am glad to not have them.  But, I'll be glad when these last tests are finished, and the results are in, so  I can breathe again.

THAT SUCKS to everyone who needs it!!

Saint, that CO is a paid military person.  He may be paid by the school but the military usually selects retired senior NCO's or Officiers for these positions.  Those kids should have been walking at attention and staring straight ahead.  Our ROTC was pitiful, only 7 kids in it.  When my son (the one in Iraq) was in ROTC it was packed, kids had a hard time getting into it but I guess that has changed.  The main thing they are taught is discipline and respect and that surely wasn't what you were getting.  And the military branch that assigned that idiot who chewed on you doesn't deserve his job.  Gee, can you tell that is a hot button topic for me.  I lived the military life for many years and now my son has chose it.  I do not like to see anyone disrespect that job and what it stands for.  Those kids cussing probably don't even realize they can cuss because young men and women have died for them to have that freedom.  Ok, better get off this soapbox!

Oh yeah, I am at the MGM Grand and my hotel package comes with a spa discount.  I'll have to check it out and get with anyone that may be interested in using a spa.

Ok.... first of all Harley... when you write the letter start off by saying you are going to need time off from such and such a date.  She will read no further and schedule you to work.... and you can stand right outside going, nope, not working.  Read it again!

Im all for discounts at spas... but then what do I know, I have never been to one.  I use discount coupons for everything else.... premise is the same

I am a Girl Guide Leader (Guider) and it seemed my girls were very weak at marching.  So I went to the experts.  The Army Cadets at the next school over agreed to teach 25 guides to march.  Well there was a conflict and the CO- called the cadets that had set up the date and brought them and 4 others back and there was a 13 yr old girl cadet they brought with them... closest in age to our girls.

Well they were taught to march, right turn, left turn, etc..... and they did it in unison.  I was amazed.  Well last week one of those girls taught another group how to march last week.  A tear comes to my eye....

I think that a complaint should be made to the person above that CO and tell them that this unit needs a lesson in respect.  The ROTC has their ways of teaching that.... so I heard.

I am so excited..... the shirt is almost finished and an unprecedented freely given compliment fell from the lips of my husband (that looks nice).... almost had me in ER with heart failure.

    Thats it for today.....

    Hi all:

A bit of ranting and raving from me tonite.  I went to bingo and won.  On way home it was pouring rain, so my plans for dinner "out" changed to drive thru McD.  I ordered # 2, no pickles and milk.

First, you can only have milk with a kids meal. -  OK, I will pay extra, but I want milk.  - What flavor milk shake do you want? -  I want MILK, M I L K, leche.   OK, sweet or un sweet tea?  - NO, MILK - the white stuff from cows.  OK, $ 5.36 at first window...

I get to the pick up window and girl hands me a cup like soft drinks come in. I ask what is this.  She says Sweet Tea.  I lost it and yelled - I ordered MILK,  do any of you speak English?   She says it is not her fault.  Man comes to window and say you ordered tea... GRRRRRRR really big time by now.  I said I paid extra for milk and i want milk and NOW.   Then hands me bag w/sandwich in it. I open and there are pickles on it.  I scream (in spanish because i speak it) - what is wrong with you,  what does NO pickles mean.  Man says hold on lady, you need to apoligize for yelling.   I say, customer is always right, but believe me, I will report this.

He then sticks head out window and says, pull over to the side and I will come out and get you what you want.  Ok, he brings out bag few minutes later and says can I tell the others that you apologized.....  I told him that YOU need to apologize to ME.  and I drove off.

wow, thanks for listening, not a huge IOS, but got my dander up.  Guess I am not gonna have a heart attack soon, as this was a real test....    and I think I best avoid Friday night drive thru for a while...

THAT SUCKS to all who need it.

As far as u/s  results - when I went for mammo, tech said spot that looks suspicious.  Do  you have time for an ultrasound?  I got it right away and tech said this is not good, you need a biopsy.  They scheduled the biopsy right then for 4 days later.  So, I do know that ultra sound results can be immediate.  Good Luck that it is not serious and that you get results soon.

Thanks again for letting me rant and rave.  HUGS,   Nancy

Ok, ladies...it's "ask a sensitive question" time:

The hair on my head is still hanging on, although I might be shedding a bit more than normal. Definitiely no clumps falling out yet.  However, the little hairs down "south of the border" ARE falling out it clumps...and it sort of hurts!  Did any of you lose the lower hair first and did it hurt?

Morning, all!  BIG SUCKS to all in need!

LuAnn--I'm sorry about your outrageos pain and I'm glad that your pain doc is aggressively trying to get you relief.  Doc's like that are such a blessing!

Debbie--I hate that "I think I'm losing my mind" feeling.  For me, it usually happens when I'm over-whelmed and over-fatigued...can't think of a better remedy than crawling in bed with an Evanovich book.  Can't remember whether you said it was a Stephanie Plum or not...she's hilarious.

Nancy--I haven't had a flu shot for years, and my onc didn't say anything, so I signed a release yesterday at work refusing one.  Just me--I don't really trust vaccines, and I haven't had the flu since I stopped taking flu shots.  Having said that, I would never tell anyone else not to get one!  If I was going to be on chemo through the flu season, I would probably reconsider.....

Shopping carts!!  Ladies, be afraid, be very, very afraid!!  I had Salmonella in the summer of 2006, and I was sicker than I've ever been for a whole month!!  When the department of health called to interview me, they couldn't figure out where I got it, and ended up concluding that I'd gotten it off a shopping cart at the grocery store!!!!!!  She told me that babies have it in their poo and it goes from diapers to their hands to handles of carts...It's totally changed the way I shop, too.  Trust me, Salmonella SUCKS!!!  And if you're blood counts are low.....

U/S results--I guess I'm lucky...the radiologist at the Breast Center I go to always does the U/S himself, and he's good about talking me through what he's seeing, so I always know what's going on in real time.  Mammo's too, I usually get results same day.  Not so with any other test, though.  I hate waiting for test results, and Dr.s that don't seem to understand what it's like to wait and worry!!!!   THAT SUCKS!!!!

Diane--I think you've had more than your share of sh!t hitting the fan and are well deserving of a break.

Harley--I'm jealous of your extended weekend to Cocoa Beach!  Have fun and soak up some rays for me (I'm white as a ghost--If I laid out on the beach they'd think I was a beached whale and start throwing water on me!)

THAT SUCKS TO ANY IN NEED!!!

Hope everyone has a SOI weekend!!

Diane - I can't remember! How crazy is that? Sorry I can't help, I do know it all did fall out, but I no longer remember in what order, except eyelashes and eyebrows were the last to go.

A big that sucks to everyone else!

My little issues are nothing compared to yours...sending big hugs and lotsa love to everyone...missed so many of you...life has been busy...and actually pretty darn good!

    Love and hugs

Ugh...back-asswards...that's me!  My onc and I have recently been joking about how my responses and s/e's seem to be the opposite of the norm. Like, it seems like when I start to feel better--I have progression. If I'm feeling like absolute dogCHIT, that's when the cancer's being knocked back. And, the recent allergic reaction didn't happen until AFTER the IV bottle was EMPTY. Seriously, I've had such weird health issues the last 20 years, I started telling my husband that it must be because I am an alien and your atmosphere is getting to me.  I AM adopted, so that theory could fly, right?...just like Superman! LOL

    That sucks, y'all!

Oh, Vickie! That's horrible! Be sure to watch the arm closely and get antibiotics going ASAP if it starts to get red or warm.  LE sucks bigtime.

    A big THAT SUCKS Vickie.

Diane, I've JUST noticed the dog in your picture.........and I'm a dog person, all I saw was the cat!!!  Go figure.  What a lovely picture.  They'd look like twins if they were the same species.  Too cute.

I don't know how you all keep track and make personal replies to people here.  My brain simply sucks I guess.

Hugs to all and hoping for a mainly suck free day!!

{{Vicki}} so sorry about you fall! Keep it elevated!

{{Diane}} What are you powers dear lady!  Can you take us all back to your planet with you?  Is it sunny there? Do you have lots of gardens, no doggie doo-doo chores, and uh..can we bring our familes? :)  Too funny lady.  You need to stop having reactions period!  No more, you hear!  They're liable to lock you up and start studying your body while you are still living...not a good thing I would think! :D  J/kidding of course...here's hoping you NEVER have a bad reaction again! :D

Hoping everyone has a Satisfying Saturday and can really enjoy this beautiful weather of late, with NO IOS's to suffer from! :D

My dh and I went to the Irish Italian festival today.  It was fun!  It has been warm and sunny here, and since tomorrow is supposed to also be a nice day, even warmer, maybe, so we are going to go to the beach and relax.

Sherri, don't be jealous!  We have been planning this trip for awhile.  We were supposed to go last weekend, but our friends in Cocoa Beach had some visitors from the U.K., so we had to postpone it.  Too bad my boss can't stand it when I change things, even though SHE changes my schedule around without even telling me..  oh well!

    Saint,

I have raised a fuss over things with my onc, and I even had to fight with him over which chemo I was going to have...  he wanted to switch me to Adriamycin & Cytoxan, but I refused... I won, and I got Taxotere & Cytoxan.  I have a rep there...

But, my surgeon is different, and I really think that if there is anything to be concerned about, he'd have me come in sooner.  The problem is that he only has office hours on Tues. & Fri., and the tech told me that my dr. should have the results of my u/s by Monday... so he won't get them til Tues., and he's already overbooked for Tues, I am sure.  So even if he reads the u/s results on Tues., I wouldn' t be able to get in to see him til Oct. 3, but I'll be going to Cocoa Beach then, and I refuse to change our plans.

My dh and I really need this break!    I really think that the post tx period has been harder for me than the active tx was.   So I guess I'll just wait til Tues., Oct. 7 to get my u/s results, unless I hear from my surgeon's office sooner.

Thanks everyone for letting me vent...

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend, and no suckiness!!

    Harley
