Ok I just need to vent... I'm almost 8 months out of treatment...living life feeling good....last week started having some really shart pain in my right side...long story short ... I have shingles...I thought it was my appendix..Dr. said because of the low white blood count or cancer drugs or even the radiation woke up my chickenpox virus I had when I was young....now I'm old and it's called shingles! Cancer it just keeps giving.

I had shingles during chemo and now I have scars on my shoulder where they were.

The wierdest thing happened earlier.  I typed this semi-long bitch-a-log venting some frustration re: men vs. women (speficically my DH).  I hit submit and "poof" it was gone.  I don't know where it went.

Good to see you back Saint.  We missed you.

OMG Otter.  How frightening.  Too bad a few cars didn't sandwich the car in place.  It's so hard to react quickly in that kind of situation.

My IOS for the week.....We have two campus rentals that we bought several years ago.  After my kids they are my pride and joy.  They were barely livable and we fixed them up to be the cutest little houses in the neighborhood.  I used to be able to work on them 12 hours a day and go back for more the next day.  I'm lucky if I can make it 5 hours now with the next day a day of rest.  Business is bad for us right now so I can't afford help.

Not only that but in the last 6 months they have both been robbed twice.  The kids keep leaving the doors unlocked and come back to all their electronics gone.

I feel like such a slug.  I finished chemo end of February.  Will I ever get my stamina back?  I walk every day and that helps a lot.

Renee, good for you for walking! I didn't even have chemo or rads and I don't walk. My energy is sapped by work, commute, work, commute....did I mention work? Undecided

Are you charging enough for your rentals? If you charge more (may take longer to get tennants) they will have a lot more respect for the property. If the door was unlocked, sorry to say, that's not a robbery, it's an invitation! Can you advertise for 'mature' students? People will think 'age' mature, but you could judge them...Surprised

I worked with someone who answered an ad for a fairly pricey rental. It was gorgeous though and he said he'd take it. The lady said, 'Oh that's not the real rent, I just wanted to get rid of the (others)' The rent was much less and he lived there a long time!

Barbe - that is interesting re: rent. We have one rental, and have no end of trouble with our current tennants. They are three months behind in rent. We keep trying to work something out with them (more frequent, smaller payments...) because firstly I don't want to evict (as they just had a baby), and also it is very difficult to evict. I get very frustrated when as landlords we're seen as the bad ones for wanting our money. We're not rich, and when they don't pay it greatly effects us, but they don't get that. Ugh. If we have to rent it again, I may try the high rent ploy.

I started out doing a favor for dd whose boss needed a bookkeeper about 1 1/2 years ago.  What started as a 10-12 hour a week job is now a minimum of 20 hours.  My dd works at a pizza parlor he owns (one of a family-owned chain) and I do the books at an "upscale bistro" he own.  He also owns an apartment.  He's Greek and he goes to Greece a couple of times per year.  Well,  he just left a couple of weeks ago and, the day he left, a pipe broke in one of the upstairs apartments which ruined the mattress of the downstairs apartment. He left and told everyone that "just call Jane, she'll take care of it."  Well this whole thing has become a comedy of errors.  Jane has been getting calls at 7 in the morning and 10 at night.  Now, in the last 2 days, 2 tenants have decided to leave.  He's going to have a fit when he gets back.  But, that's the cost of doing business these days.  I'll have to get an ad in the papers this week.

Yes, you can clear your cache and reload.  Hold down the shift key when you reload and it will let you vote again.  I just did it on my Mac.

Oh now I am confused, I just went back to do it a couple more times and I am not sure.  It was 1537, I made it 1538, when i hit shift reload it went back to 1537.  I am  blonde so I don't remember where it was when I started!

I think I've finally come up with a way I feel...it feels like I live in a blender....sometimes the blender is on pulse, sometimes it's on chop and sometimes it's on puree.

Good analogy. I remember once when I was working a grueling trade show, I took DH with me for support. Getting up early one morning I complained 'I feel like I'm in boot-camp!' My DH's response, 'I feel like the boot!'

I like that Jane,  like in a blender.   Don't some days feel like you are in a reality - survival show, with the Mad Scientist in charge ?   No much going on here, thank goodness.   Hugs and Blessings,   Nancy

This week we had lots of good things (never remember if thats SOI or IOS)....big celebration on Saturday was lovely, my sister & bil came up and stayed with us for a few days, dd graduated from high school on Wednesday and the rain held off for the most part, Moms surgery on Monday went well and I have been going in daily to visit. For a while the doctor thought the polyp was cancerous, in fact he was convinced based on its appearence and sent section of colon and a bunch of nodes for biopsy. Yesterday we learned it is NOT cancer. Big sigh of relief. She will be in hospital a few more days until everything is working properly. DD just left for camp where she is coaching at her beloved gymnastics camp in Pa for the summer. Got all her coaching certs in time and this summer will be working on other parts of it (she tells me this is BIG and good).

Its all good but I sure hope things quiet down a bit. I did not realize how tired I would be with all this extra activity.. All I want to do is stay in my pjs, napping on and off. Getting back to my routine, soon, soon. Off to shower and visit Mom. DH is coming w/me today and I think we will also stop and have a quiet lunch. Then NAP TIME. Smile

Hugs and prayersfor a good weekend full of rest and love

saint... saint?  Question, please. Have you ever had any eye problems before?  I wear bi-focals and I have glaucoma.

My opthamologist just puts this look on her face that says, "If the oncologist says do it, do it."

I say, "If this is going to cost me vision, and ANOTHER specialist to deal with, this is not a topic to gloss over."

Should I feel sorry for doctors, ladies?  They are expected to know so much.

otter's burger truck-stop theft report had me breathless.  wow.

I didn't understand if the car was really the guy's or hers... how'd she get the keys to the car if it wasn't hers?  How'd she know which car to steal if it wasn't hers?  okay, she could have watched them drive in, and snatched wallet and keys both from the table.  Yes, that's true.  Crazed people.  I saw a n'er do well cut a bicycle chain once with a bolt cutter and say to his buddy, "Hey, you want a bike?"  The buddy then rode off on the bike he had freed up.  I felt stupid and shocked.  The people around me and I just looked on.  THAT'S what the rotten criminals count on - shock and disbelief.

Even if you toss your cache and cookies your computer's IP address isn't going to change.  I don't know if a radio station would use "law enforcement" techniques to check out cheaters - think American Idol voting.  We are tech-ing ourselves into oblivion.  (Oblivion is east of Tucson)

Being nauseated when you go to bed and when you wake up, and Compazine and Ativan aren't helping.  You had 3 TCH cycles, then onco stopped for lack of marker decline.  It's been a little over two months since I had a chemo cocktail.  - THIS SUXS.

    thank you.

I suppose I wasn't very clear about what I was bitching about with our campus rentals.  The work I'm doing is just basic upkeep that has to be done.  Trimming trees, touch up painting and so on.  The houses were spotless when they each moved out.  But even washing the outside windows exhausted me.

We do charge top dollar for the rentals but not excessive as they are students.  We rent to Seniors students only but this usually means that we have to get new students every year.  Girls work out much better than boys but you didn't hear me say that.

Anyway I wasn't complaining about the students just the work and my lack of energy.  Caring and extra 20 LBS doesn't help.

Hi everyone...sorry for the suckage - break is almost over so I didn't take time to make notes (sorry, I suck....) I do remember to say good analogy Jane and I feel ya' Renee!

Fabulous weekend with all the kids (neices) over for a camp out. I learned some very valuable lessons this weekend:

    1. Never, no matter how good you were in High School, try to do a flip off the high dive. Water hurts and it can give you a concussion. It's a good thing I did not have expanders in!

    2. Never, no matter how tempting it might be, eat more than 2 smores -even if they ARE small.

    3. Air mattresses were invented for a reasone. ANYONE over 40 should use one.

    4. Kids are exhausting,. How the hell do people do it?

In answer to a FAQ about the burger-shop incident:

The car belonged to the woman who had (allegedly) stolen the guy's wallet.  I just thought she might be stealing his car, too, based on his aggressiveness in pursuing her to the car.  (Not that I wouldn't have been equally distressed had someone stolen my purse, but I might not have broken out the car window with my bare hands, trying to get it back.)  Yes, it was shocking, especially when he was thrown to the pavement by her S-turn maneuvers and didn't move for a long time...

And, there were oodles of witnesses.  There were good descriptions of the car and the driver, and the state logo on the license plate.  And, of course, there was that busted driver's side window.  But I don't know if anyone got the plate number itself.  I couldn't read it (too far away); others said they were thinking more about the physical danger posed by her crazy driving and the guy hanging on to the window frame.

Sorry for all the suckage.  Navygirl, you are correct on all counts.  Those observations you made are especially true for those of us over 50!

I am visiting relatives (mine, not dh's), which always provides opportunities for IOS's as well as SOI's.  I'll let y'all know if I need any help managing them.  Some valium would be nice, if anyone has some extra on-hand.
