CTCA is very particular in what cases they take. According to my mil, they would not see my fil based on a phone interview because he had multiple cancers possible mets with the inital dx locally.

Sounds like a back surgeon who wouldn't operate on me because he couldn't guarantee success!
Now we know why CTCA has such a high success rate! They only take people they know they can cure!
0 -
Well thats a good way to keep your stats up, but its a lousy way to treat patients. Turning away the ones they can't heal,?, that's messed up. Figures.

Connie! How the hell ARE you sweetie!

CTCA had my sister convinced (by phone) that they could do something to help her besides chemo. After three days, chemo it was. She was very diisappointed, but at least she didn't have to pay for the visit. They paid for everything. She described their chemo rooms to me - beauty, privacy, massaging chairs, private TV's, etc., mine certainly wasn't like that. Mine was one giant room with chairs lining every wall and then some.

It appears that chemo rooms can give you everything from an early 20th century barber chair to sit in up to and over a recliner with your own personal TV.
I like the private rooms best, even if I do have to lie on a gurney or choose the uncomfy chair.
Some dear ones bring guests that they talk to, or burn up the cell phone. I'm a reader.
It's nice to have some sunshine through the window (if you want it) and not too much crowding.
Television - High Def or Tone Deaf or Def Jam - is getting more and more suspicious. Have you noticed that "real human" actors are being replaced by animated drawings and voice over work?
Don't get me wrong, I was miffed that SOMEONE was paying Dr. Jarvik to do the Lipitor commercials, and that Sally Field thinks Boniva is just swell - however, ask your doctor if this medicine may be right for you. The advertising and marketing business is tricky enough without making you believe that a world-wide known physician and "Gidget" want you to go ask your doctor if you need some medication.
It used to be that they just wanted the product name to stick in your head, now it appears they want you to believe that (more than ever), you ARE the products that you use and buy. The world opens up to you with an i- ... Apple ... App ... Verizon ... etc. phone so that you are connected with the universe.
I really don't want the universe to know very much about me, ladies. I'm not gonna tweet you like a twit when I have dishes, laundry, and grocery buying to attend to. Make something up about me - it will be more exciting than the truth. I promise.

Hi everyone... sorry to be so long between posts. Been sleeping a lot. Four out of 7 days I sleep the day away. And they shrug and say the cancer is draining my energy. So now Im too tired to bother feeding myself. Got a feeling Im gonna have something go wrong soon. I do read between naps and occasionally walk the block to the library. Most times though, I take the scooter so I have the energy to pick out books. Now I take a list and put several authors on hold and they call me when my order is ready. All my favourite authors, Debbie Macombre, Nora Roberts etc are all on bottom shelves where I cant reach. The librarian is not going to lift them up but she will squat and read the titles. Finally she said she would just find them and order them in (its funny when you make them do gymnastics).
I am really excited about going to the Niagara On the Lake get together. Im getting a lift there (I havent told her that cars make me fall asleep). I have my outfit all picked out and my human alarm clock prepped (DH).
Nothing to really moan about except the sleepiness. Everything else - I am spoiled silly.

Hey Girls!! yes, it's been a while. Where the Hell is Konakat? Does anyone know? She hasn't been on in a while and I miss her posts.
Hey Barbe, thanks for asking! I've missed my bitch sessions. Today I splurged and bought myself a little pink wireless mouse to go with my little laptop. It was the whole $20 bucks.
I'm trying to keep the summer, as gawd-awful hot as it is, as quiet as possible. Of course the best laid plans... go awry. DH hurt his hip somehow while working out. It was one of those Oh Crap!, moments where he knew he just blew something. Bursitis revisiting. And OMG the moaning and groaning. He tries to walk with crutches and carry a drink. Yeah. I've had to do the cooking because DD fell ill right after we celebrated our 35th with dinner at Chili's. WooHoo. Hey, I LIKE IT that they serve 2-4-1 all the time. I enjoy a couple of cold draught beers. Lite, of course.HAH.
DD has filed her papers for divorce. We will all be glad when that cord is cut.
I'm tired. More tomorrow.
~Connie

Dream, I think I've got you beat! I go to bed between 6-7 pm and go to work between 9-5....that's giving me 14 hours a night! I have missed the whole summer....sigh.

Jane_M, a particular of your life has been in my craw for a while now. The craw is next the the gizzard, and if it doesn't grind up the gunk that feeds into it, it gets stuck (up). I look at your pic, I think, "DH," and my mind says, "Somethin' tain't right here. Thar neither, but especially right here."'
About a year ago, your husband had you moving furniture around your living room so that his comfy chair could be in a good place for him.
My point, then, was that, 1. That's unreasonable, 2. Why doesn't he have any guy friends to do that kind of stuff?
All this time, my craw has been constipated, and then, THEN, I looked at a picture in my living room. EPIPHANY! (Boom, whap, blam, alacazam.... bright lights!)
You must have married one of my brother's evil sextuplets. (There may be more.) Let me explain.
There is a brand of self-centered, thoughtless, non-compassionate, take care of it yourself, I'm doing as little as I can so that I'm comfortable, "Well, I certainly didn't do anything wrong," boy-men out there that are of the marriageable age. Lots of wives suffer in silence.
The ones most like my brother live by this mantra, "If you don't do what I want you to do, then YOU are bad. I will not ever forgive you for being BAD. You should suffer. I will wait around to see you suffer. I will also make you pay for not doing what I want you to do when I wanted you to do it." Example: Loan me money. Okay, I'm a full grown man with a FT job, and we both know I make at least 1 1/2 times as you, but I blew all my money. Loan me some. Better yet, give me some. You're not using it. WHAT? You won't? YOU are bad. What's wrong with you? You're not using it.
See, it all goes back to the "Adam Syndrome." There were synapses and memories in Adam that never 100% forgave Eve for advising him to disobey God. Yeah, he should have been paying more attention to his wife and they both should have spent more time with God, but his action was SECONDARY, see? (Per him.) It was her fault, and now he had to work harder, she's always lookin' to him to be hero and provider, (Now THAT was the problem to begin with, why wasn't she a better thinker? She couldda gone to night school instead of always relying upon him to be her mate, couldn't she? All that emotional stuff. She needed a counselor since the day he woke up and met her.) when she gets pregnant she's real sickly and not much help laboring with the animals and crops, and the baby! Oh, the baby lets out some stuff - and takes up a lot of time. Time she used to spend with me. All this was so much better before SHE goofed up ... all by herself. Yeah.
Oh, Adam still loved her - he just never understood himself.
P.S. They passed that trait along to their first born.
Good night, ladies. Comfortable dreams.

Recalls, recalls recalls!!!!!!! ARGGGGGGG I don't wanna do any more! How often are you guys recalled after checks? Gotta go BACK for more views and ultra sound! Bummed!

Good luck crazy. I never had a mammo since I was 21 (I'm now 52) that didn't have a recall so I don't know any better.
This Adam crap has got to stop! We only have HIS word that Eve lured him on....

Dream- Hugs honey. It sounds like you need to get out with Sally more. Hope you have a wonderful time in Niagra. Miss chatting with you and everyone but I'm too early to bed for chat these days. Take care.

Hey Navy, what's going on with problems walking? I thought you got your ankle all fixed up good!!??
I'm always on the verge; after all, if you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much space!

Barbe, it's August on the East Coast. That means it's hot and muggy, and you get soaked walking around even if it isn't raining. In a city like DC, the buildings and asphalt reflect the heat so it seems even hotter than it is.
It is hard to breathe and that humidity makes every bone that ever had any injury hurt.
It is supposed to be in the mid 90's here today, and feel like it is over 100, and Navy is in DC where it is likely to be a bit hotter.
0 -
Oh Pat, I KNOW about humidity!!! I'll be 90 degrees here, but 110 humidex....I thought Navy's ankle was acting up again. I HATE humidity!!!!

When is Niagara on the Lake? DH just bought some car part in Mississauga, Canada and as soon as he gets his enhanced Driver's License we're going up there to pick it up. I've always wanted to go to Toronto, so that's my "perk" for the trip.
SOI - My bone scan shows I'm a degenerate (see hubby was right)....degenerative changes that is. Tumor markers are on the rise, but still within normal limits. I see the oncologist on Friday.

We had NOTL last Sunday Jane! Dang yah missed it! Good luck at the onc.....

The humidity is draining me! This has got to be the hottest summer ever!!
Barbe...the ankle is fixed up...but I only got out of the "boot" 3 weeks ago. The first Monday out of it I started a 1 week class in DC...so I was walking a lot right off the bat and it was swelling pretty bad. This week I"m back in class and walking a lot again! It's not swelling any where near as bad but I'm still builing the calf muscle back up from the atrophy. It puts a lot of strain on the tendons It could take up to a year for me to be back to normal (haven't I heard that before!)
A big that SUX to all who need it!

I HATE HUMIDITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT SUX THE BIG ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That. So. Sucks.
Here's my crap:
I don't know what's going on with my "sisters" Lisa or Jeanne of Nicki.
I've gained 4 lbs in spite of my 'starving'.

I have no idea what happened to the rest of my post, and I have no idea what the rest of it said. That sucks.

Dam it.....that post took me like 15 minutes to type.
Hugs my friends.

Don't let the Internet Daemons eat your posts! Type them using a "Word" program and then choose "select all," "copy," and bring it over here for a cut and paste. You'll probably have to tell it to paste twice. The first time kind of gives it permission.
News for People
Dr. Google gives incorrect diagnosis:
"No treatment is needed for orthostatic hypotension. If someone with orthostatic hypotension faints, they will regain consciousness by simply sitting or lying down."
http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=4672
Excuse me. (Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!)
That was the sound of a woman who fractured her leg in two places because she didn't know that having low blood pressure is not always a good thing; and, you should make an appointment with your GP if you experience lightheadedness and dizziness that persists and worsens. IF you recall that you have had low blood pressure readings for a while now, get to your GP ASAP, please.
How did I stumble across this little faux gem?
Well, my ophthalmology specialist tells me today that my eye drops may cause low blood pressure (hypotension), and so he changed them. The new ones have potential side effects of (usually) stinging when you put them in and leaving a bitter taste in the mouth. Therefore, it's put pressure on the tear ducts immediately after dosing to try to head that off.
Now. My current eye drops ain't cheap, and I have three bottles of ‘em on the Rx shelf. I go back to see him in one month.
So, if I don't notice a significant change in my blood pressure readings at home can I go back to the eye drop that doesn't sting and leave a bitter taste in my mouth? Food doesn't taste as good as it used to, anyway. (Ahem, that's partially the cause of the rotten quality of food we are served up in increasing cost and less quantity. Won't have to worry about an obesity problem if they can outlaw tasty fat, i.e., butter.)
As I get older, more and more of my information I'm being fed says, "Eat well." However, eating well isn't cheap or easy, someone has to care and put out extra effort. That's right, someone like a loving mother has to care where that stuff came from that's on your plate and make the effort to go get it.
This is so off topic, but relevant.* Did you know that it is illegal to throw away alkaline batteries in the regular trash, same for those curly-q fluorescent light bulbs (that I can't stand) because of environmentally hazardous chemicals in the state of California? California is so progressive. Partially because we have no money to hit the brake pedal.
Oh, wait, here's a site about a place up north. Like I can afford to drive there... http://www.stopwaste.org/home/index.asp?page=293 For those of you who can't visualize the picture, get a So. Cal map and put one finger on Los Angeles. Yes, now, put the other one on Oakland. (Please laugh. It's so sad, that we must laugh.)
Wait, an easier visual. You are in front of one of those store legend maps at the mall, okay? You see the "X" that designates, "You are here." Okay. The recycling place is the yellow star. Off to the right hand side of the map is a sign labeled "continued..." It has an arrow that points toward the ceiling. On the ceiling of the mall, when you look up, is a yellow star that says "Recycling done here."
We're so far ahead of the curve that we don't have places to take the alkaline batteries to be disposed of.
Now, back to healthy eating. Thanks, Uncle Sam and Food and Drug Administration for the pesticides and toxins that must be washed from the fruits and vegetables. I don't want bugs in my produce. No thanks for the meat dyes that can't and won't be washed away, the artificial sweeteners, the cheapest ingredients, and the health inspectors that aren't on the government payroll that we need.
Those big Zacky farm chicken wanna be's better watch it. (See commercial of large puppet chickens trying to be good enough to be Zacky Farm's chickens.) Turning them round and round on a spit will cook off all that salt water; better yet, bar-b-q - Texas style.
Why in the world would you clone something when you're not positive what made it "work" in the first place? Just to have more? Just to have more at a cheaper price? Just to have more to sell at a cheaper price. There you go.
Go ahead, laugh at the mutant corn kernels. (Previous post. See breastcancer.org board topic "Let's conduct our own study on how we all got breast cancer," August 30, 2009.
By the way, why is my memory coming full circle to this time last year posts. Is my brain frog watching "Groundhog Day" reruns?
They don't make food like they used to.
This has been a public service announcement.
-sessna1
* I knew you'd like that one.

Sessna, I think you're on to something (as usual). Eating well is all about eating really good (in every sense of the word) food lovingly prepared.
One of the biggest problems of all the engineered food is that the taste is missing or altered. If your taste buds aren't satiated, you keep eating because that is part of the process to tell your brain that you have eaten enough food.
So all that government tweaking to make food lower fat and lower calorie actually is making us fatter in the long run because it takes more food for our bodies to recognize that we are full, and over time, we lose the ability to recognize that at all.

Hi Everyone . My name is Ellie and I was diagnosed in May of this year with BC and was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on what to expect with Radiation . I have only had 4 treatments and everyone is scaring me about the side effects . Could anyone help? Thanks
0 -
Hey, Ellie, your best bet for an answer to that question is in one of the forums for Radiation. Look under the Treatment heading.
You're always welcome here for a good rant or whine, though!!
Anne

Hey Ellie, Everyone has a different reaction to radiation. It all depends on how, where, how much, how deep, how shallow. etc...I didn't really have any side effects except for the radiation burn I recieved at about the end of treatment( last week ). If you want to see pic's I took them through the whole thing. I posted them under the April mastectamy thread. Am all healed up now. However I am very light skinned that is why I burned so bad. Not everyone has the same reaction as I did. They had to use what they called a bolus(sp) on me to keep the radiation to the top of the skin. I don't know what kind of bc you have but I have IBC. This will also determin what kind of radiation you get. Good luck and you will get through this, we all have and you will too. God Bless. Leisa
