Marie - I am 10 months PFC and love to look at your hair growth - very inspiring. I too am complaining about the front being so short :-)

Marie - Are you on an AI or tamaxofin? Did your hair growth slow down? I am on Arimidex and it seems to me that my hair is growing so very slow.

Char I'm on Anastrozole (generic Arimidex) & Herceptin and my hair is growing just as fast as always… I am doing 5mg of biotin and women's minoxidil too though. I can already see gray roots and I just dyed the hair 2 weeks ago. You can see for yourself on Tuesday.0

looking forward to checking-out your hair and catching-up

Lago: For goodness sakes. You are so right! It's 1000 mcg (not 1000 mg). What a dingaling.... and I'm not even a blonde anymore! So what is 1000 mcg equivalent to? Maybe 1 mg?? Not the math whiz here.0

Char I am on Tamoxifen. I started right after my radiation ended last May (2010) and have only had small "breaks" for surgeries (twice).
I had bloodwork done last summer which determined that I am in full on menopause with little or no estrogren being produced.
I don't take any supplements other than Vit C and I use regular Pantene shampoo and conditioner.
From reading this thread I woudn't say that my hair growth is normal but I've always had fast growing hair and nails. Not sure why?
I have had at least 7 hair cuts since it started growing (finished chemo mid Jan 2010) and it continues to grow at a very fast rate. Actually it feels like it is growing much faster than pre-chemo and it's definitely much thicker. My daughter said to me yesterday that I must have double hair folicles or something because it is so thick you cannot see my scalp even when you part it.
Looking back I would say that my hair really took off with the growth cycle starting around the 6 month PFC mark.
I hope it's ok for me to post here? I do so as an inspiration to others who are going through this stage in their recovery.

Is it even remotely possible that I might be feeling new "peach fuzz" on my head? I had my last dd Taxol tx on Tuesday and am just about positive that I hadn't felt the fuzzies on my head for the last four months, just the rough stubble left from when I shaved it at the end of January. Maybe the soft fuzzies have been there all along and I'm just wishfully thinking that it's new . . .
Love your pictures, Marie. It definitely gives me some hope.

Julieh and birdyrobin: I'm not a wig-type, either - my DD says I'm wiggy enough as is - I've just buzzed mine, and have crocheted and been gifted with a long lineup of hats, both serious and silly. That, and the henna tattoos my kids will attempt to paint on my head next week.
On that note: since I didn't shave it to the scalp, any recommendations for henna on scalp? Will it work through the fuzz, or should I wait a few weeks until more of it is gone? It seems most women I've met in the chemo closet (it's that small) have a peach fuzzy look rather than bald bald. Suggestions, anyone?0 -
I am definitley peach fuzzy and then in some areas like the crown of my head the hair actually has grown some... I am a blond, so I really can;t tell if the hair is blond or gray or a mix of both... just not enough if it... I would wnt to put any color on it at this stage as I think I'd be coloringm y scalp more than my hair.

3teacher Ha ha, you are not the first I've had to correct. Just blame it on chemo brain. Everyone else does.
Now that facial hair might be just what you get once chemo ends. I had all this white hair grow all over my face especially my mustache. I plucked the white mustache immediately. It came out very easily. I don't think biotin makes new hair growth I just think it promotes healthy hair/nail growth. I think the lack of estrogen can cause some strange male pattern hair growth though.

My ex-MIL was just talking to my son. After the perfunctory, "How is your mother?", she asked, "Did she lose her hair?" (I've been through this with her before!). He said, yes and then she said, "Did it grow back?". He said, "Yes, of course." She said, "Well, I didn't know about the 'of course' part'." That was spoon-fed to her by my ex-SIL, I can tell. I can just hear their gleeful little gossip about my hair - my hair was always one of my most striking features. Oh! I hope it grows back fast! I told my son well, that does it. I'm not going to see either one of them until my hair has grown back - haha. Why should I?
Some people - mean little people - seem to take a sick little pleasure when you lose all of your hair.

ok all, my new avatar is a pic i just took. I am 5 weeks PFC. It will be a long time till i like the way i look again!! ugh!

hdangelbaby - looks good!
I am 7 weeks PFC and don't have anything but a few hairs on top. Am beginning to get very frustrated. doesn't seem like anything new in the last 3 weeks. I know that someday this will all be a memory, but for right now if feels like the hair is growing at a glacial pace.

heartnsoul76 I too thought my hair was one of my best features. Everyone used to compliment me on it all the time… but now people talk about my eyes and my smile. Guess no one ever saw them when I had all that hair.
My point is hair does is not what makes a beautiful person otherwise everyone would wear wigs. Hair is just another accessory. A big smile on your face makes everyone feel great. The more you wear one the more people will think your beautiful.

Thanks, lago, you're right about that. I totally agree - I think a smile is what makes a person truly beautiful!
What really bothers me, though, is what the mean-spirited people I know are interested in - "Did I lose my hair?". I told her months ago I lost my hair, AND my exSIL - they're just gossiping about it and it's on my exMIL's mind again. I'm seriously not going to give them the pleasure of seeing me until my hair grows in - I don't care how long it takes. Eff 'em.

Marie - I love it that you are posting - it gives us hope.

heartnsoul - no need for you to expose yourself to meanspirited people - especially during this difficult time in your life

Thanks, Char! I agree, I have too much going on to mess with people like them. Be gone with them!0

Just changed my avatar picture - 7 weeks PFC. Am hoping for big changes in the next month as patience is not one of my virtues. Trying to keep a smile though!

Thanks ladies, you don't know how much I needed that tonight (or maybe you do!)

AimeeMac, Is that a shaddow of hair I see? I know our diagnosis date is the same, when again was your last chemo?? Yeah on your hair.
0 -
aimee you look great.
I think my hair came in quickly because I didn't have such a great shaped bald head. I really did look like gollum between the not so smooth head, the large eyes and the 4 strands of hair that didn't fall off Granted I did have a better smile!
heartnsoul I'm sorry about these folks. I think we all found out about the true nature of some people during our treatment. I had a few major family disappointments too.

Yes, it's a shadow. I have a little bit of growth on the sides, but really just a few hairs here and there on the top. It's growing in like old man hair. My last chemo was on March 10th - I only had 4 rounds of TC. Are you finished with chemo yet? I'm on 20/33 rads - will be finished on May 18th.

aimeeMac, My last chemo was Thursday, my last of 6 TAC, what a ride. I am just (in the last few hrs) starting to feel like I am alive. This last round kicked my butt. Hope rads are going ok for you? I am not having rads as I had BMX, and just one postitive node. I am so ready for hair, I am hoping for a shadow Memorial Day. My head is so white, you look great.

I didn't have BMX, just lumpectomy+chemo+rads.
Rads have not been so bad - just a little pinkness and some rash on my "underboob." Am still waiting for the fatigue to set in - have only had a little. Are you all finished then? Every day will get a little better for you, and hopefully the hair will start coming in soon.

AimeeMac, glad your rads are going well, just think of it as a headstart on your summer tan. I am officially finished. See my PS in a couple of weeks, still need to expand one more time, port out, and then exchange surgery this summer. And of course back to onc for my tamox rx. See ya on the Jan site soon. Everyday must get better!
