Hair Hair Hair - Another question

Thanks, lago. I'm sorry I ever met them, and I could toss a few others in there, as well. I can keep them out of my life, but the hard part is getting them out of my head! Need to work on that one, for sure...
Aimee - it does feel like a glacial pace, and I was just saying tonight patience isn't one of my virtues, either - haha.
For me, it seems like the Tamoxifen is sporadically slowing it down. Sometimes, my hair just takes off for a few weeks, then it seems to practically stop for another few weeks. Has anyone else noticed this? Anybody else taking Tamoxifen? Sometimes, I just can't bear to look at my hair, because I feel like every time I look at it I'm measuring it, and that's driving me nuts!

hey ladies,im faithfully reading almost daily, but don't post much. im very discouraged by my hair growth. its' been a year and a half, and the back is wonderful, but the top front, not so much! i have one of those male pattern thingies goin on, i guess. no where near the growth in the fron t ANY of you have had. im older, though, 61 and that accounts for a lot, too.
lago, i broke down and bought the walgreens minoxidil for women today, and will start tommorrow. ive been hoping it would get better. i looked in the mirror, im now dying it red, and the sides have an inch of grey, the tops' still thinning, and red. no growth that i can see.
for night, im wearing wide hairbanda and a wiglet.. but, please God, i won't have to forever... will i end up like the Donald with a comb over? i used to have such gorgeous, long red hair... well, it looks like i got what i prayed for. it will be red, and long, just not in the front/top where i need it!!!!
i don't want to scare anyone, i do know its' a personal thing, and some of my meds may be contributing to it. but, i was told that minoxidol wouldn't work about chemo. but, it has for some of you, so im in..
i know it takes 2-3 mos. before you see any change, but i'll rock the headband till then, with the wiglet. when its' an "occasion" i still have lovely wigs to wear.. im just so darn VAIN about my hair! im overweight, 1/2 bald. with no boobs.. the self esteem is in the toilet less you keep trying to say... next time this year... so far, im NED: and that's whats' really the imp. thing... sometimes it just gets to me. you girls have really helped me , and i want to thank you all.... 3jays

Thank you all for responding to me.
You ladies look amazing and so brave. I guess I will try the different options and see which is better on me. I have long hair so I will plan on getting a hair cut, maybe next weekend. Every woman on here represents a story of courage, survival, bravery and a fighter.
God bless all the fighters.

3jaysmom I'm sorry you still have hair issues. Your meds could very well be part of the issue. I too worry that the Anastrozole will thin my hair but only time will tell. It will not prevent chemo induced alopecia but might help hair growth. I'm not sure if it will work over large areas. Maybe that's what they meant. It could take up to 6 months to work.0

I thought you all were beautiful before I saw your pictures, now seeing your pictures just proves I was right! xoxoxo

good5 I so agreee. thanks for the kind words, lago. i gotta remember to appreciate the hair i HAVE!!!lol... the drs. say its' not alopecia, chemo induced, or not.. so meds and age must be it. the wiglets are doing magic, with the headbands. the hair will grow long enough for a "comb over" i hope... 3jays

3Jays, I met you in person and hair does not a person make...I think you are lovely inside and out. If this new chemo I am starting on Wed., does what it says it will on the listed SEs I will be joining this thread once again.....but at least one woman on it told me she did not lose her hair...so we shall see. Have to admit I do hate the thought of losing it again, but I am about 95% sure that even if I do, I dont want to wear a wig this time so am looking for nice scarves.

I don't know if I have posted here about this before, but I didn't want to bother with a wig and found a lady on eBay who sells scarves made just for chemo patients. They were wonderful - lightweight, tons of patterns and colors, and basically pre-tied so they were easy to use, not to mention very comfortable. If anyone is interested in looking at them, I'll find her eBay store again and post the link here. Very affordable, too, so I had about half a dozen of them!

Hi ladies!
I'm 4 days PFC ha ha...
Julie H-we're on the same schedule so I'm excited to see your progress....
I'm thinking we really shouldn't look until 3-4 weeks PFC, since the last chemo is still "in the system" for a couple weeks
I can't wait to become human chia head
Wondered (and I know it's in here somewhere) how much Biotin you all take daily?
I bought some at Target, but the dosage is quite high in that tiny little pill...~1000 mcg (micrograms) which I guess is 1 mg do you all just take 1 per day? Thanks!

slcst12, I am also 4 days PFC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought my Biotin today, 1000mcg too. Going to wait a few days until chemo is out of the system. I am thinking shadow by Memorial day, but I did access the post chemo situtation today with a magnifing mirror.
Read about the ladies Rogaine, not sure if I should do or not. I read when you stop can cause some hair loss, I do not think I want to use for ever, for those of you ahead of us, your thoughts??

Hey ladies- I don't post here much but wanted to say Hello to the newbies and wish you all well. Losing my hair was horrible. I cried and cried. I skipped the wig. I bought one and absolutely hated it and refused to spend money on any more. I purchase light weight rectangular scarves I think the company is called anokiusa or hanokiusa.com. I went "topless" at three months post chemo. Looking back on those pictures I looked pretty weird. It was a very, very light covering of hair. I now am now 6 and a half months post chemo and have had my hair colored two weeks ago I have about two inches of hair. I almost look like I meant for my hair to look like this. It is too short to really curl but has a definite wave. Everyone tells me I klook great with short hair. I don't know if I agree but I do know I look better with my eyes "made up".

I'm taking 5mg of Biotin daily. I've been taking that much for 4 years when my hair started to recede a little. Took it all through chemo too.

I am going to take a Biotin tonight. You all are so encouraging, thanks!!

Hi everyone, my last chemo was Jan 13th. My hair started growing back while i was on abraxane it was about the last four treatments i think. I had really thick curley, curley hair and i used to use chemicals to straighten it all my life. It took me about 2 hours to fix my hair. If nothing else this cancer has taught me that i will NOT spend that much money or time on my hair ever again!!! I thought when i lost it, that i would be devasted, but the opposite happened. It was a relief! Anyway i have been lucky, i don't use anything and i have almost 2 inches, i have had one trim and i tried to dye it myself, it looks like i dipped it in carmel on the top. Next time i will have it done professionally. It is still very curley and thick and everyone seems to think it looks better short, so i think i will keep it short, but not quite this short. I really would love some bangs. lol I think just like everything else with cancer, everyone is different. I hated when people would say that to me, but it is so true. I love to look at all the pictures of everyone's hair (i don't know how to post mine or i would) it gives us all hope. You all look so beautiful at all the stages!! Please keep posting. By this time next year our hair will be a thing of the past just like this cancer!! Have a wonderful evening everyone!!!

bdavis, it will be here before you know it. My onc said "boy your chemo went fast", easy for him to say. Let's hope the hair comes back faster. I hope for some hair prior to my exchange surgery.

I remember when I say my BS 2 days after my 1st chemo. I had all my hair. I hadn't even cut it short yet. He said to not see him again till 3 months after chemo ends. I smiled and said "I should have some hair by then." I saw him on the 15th…2 days before I went topless!
bdavis let the happy dance begin next week!

3jaysmom I haven't thinned. Before this diagnosis my hair receded mostly on the side but a little on top too. Seems most of that hair grew back after chemo. I stopped using the minoxidil as soon as I started chemo… I mean why bother, just wasting money. So far none of the new hair has fallen out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
but
If minoxidil stimulated new hair growth that wouldn't have been there without it then you need to keep it up. If you stop that new hail will fall out and not grow again according to what I have read.

I haven't posted on here in a while, now that I'm back at work, I find I'm so busy I don't have the time to get on here as much.
Just wanted to share with everyone that I finished me last herceptin after a year, so I am really curious to see if my hair starts coming in faster now. My nurse told me that the herceptin slows the hair growth 50%. My avatar is about 9 months post chemo

Hey LadyM13!! Your hair looks great!! Mine is getting there but the top is sloooow growing.
Congrats on completing Herceptin!!! Hopefully your hair will come pouring in.
I still have baby hair for bangs I just swoop everything around to cover up the slooooow growing areas right at the temples
Hope everyone is well. I miss not having so much free time to chat.
Hugs to anyone and everyone who needs one!!

Diane,
I am curious as to why your onc does not want you to use Latisse? I finished chemo 12/28 and have been using it and have noticed huge improvements in both lashes and brows (been using it there too). I never did lose all of either but things got pretty sparse.

I just measured my hair and it is 2.5". My last chemo was Sept 27/10. It is curly and looks shorter. I will try and post my pictures later.

My first chemo FEC was on April 14. I started to lose hair 14 days after. Right now I have some hair but it doesn't look pretty. I take it positive though... more reasons for shopping! I ordered some pretty hats today on-line. Never was a hat person because my head is pretty big and I had lots of hair too. Now it's time to try different hats and scarfs.

soaplady1950, A couple of years ago, I saw an interview with the head physician at the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute in NY. He said that they don't know enough about how plant estrogen effects the body and if he had breast cancer, he just wouldn't risk it. So I'm with him. I don't risk it. Of course, I still got BC anyway...

Soy doesn't "cause" the cancer, it's the estrogen factor that feeds it. My onc says its ok in small amounts, but not to go out and have a tofu burger. Have you looked at the ingredients on foods? Almost everything has soy in it! I avoid it as much as I can.

soaplady1950, I am avoiding soy, too.
