Thanks ladies for all of the photos showing progression - it helps sooooo much.  I am 8 weeks out and don't have the all over five o clock shadow yet.  Some ladies told me that might take until 10-12 weeks PFC...is that true?

I have about 50% of my hair growing back at the moment with lots of gray - mine was not gray before.  Did most of you start with gray growth and then it got to a different color further down the road (after chemo)?

Runnergirl. I am 21 weeks pfc tomorrow and have about 2 1/2 in full growth all over. Mine started coming back during last few taxol treatments and it always pretty much was all over. No spots were sparse or anything. But what totally bummed me out was it was white when it started coming in. Over the past couple months it has gotten darker but there is still a lot of grey. Mind u I always colored and highlighted my hair but I really never had as much grey as I have now. But it has been getting progressively darker so hope it keeps going in that direction :-) I am 37 by the way so if it doesn't get darker I will def be coloring it again! Still wearing my wig cause I hate it so short so will figure that out at a later date. I am taking biotin too

    Runnergirl,

I am 11 weeks PFC and mine is coming in all gray. I had hardly any gray before chemo...it was chestnut brown. Hoping it reverts to my former color and texture (it's very thin now) eventually.

I am 6 wks PFC today.  Right now I just have peach fuzz, and tiny growth in the back.  I know I will be wearing a wig for awhile.  Right now I just want to be able to walk around without looking like a bald head.  Can anyone give a ball park at how many months out it takes for even a boy looking haircut  that is not bald? Thanks.

Waiting... I could have gone wigless at about 3 months pfc or 12 weeks if I was one to wear one of the really short boy cuts. Did anyone see charlese therone on the oscars? Her hair looked great but I could never wear it that short. At 3months mine was about that length.

melissa - I saw her - she looked beautiful... she'd look beautiful no matter what!!! I wonder how hot the wig will be this summer.. and if I'll have the nerve to go out wigless..

WAITING:  I went wigless about 8 weeks PFC.  I had hair to cover my head, but wore hats.  At about 10 weeks PFC, I gave up those too.  BTW, I am not 9 months PFC and got my 6th haircut today.   Hang in there!

Karen, your hair is coming in so pretty!  I wish my bangs looked like yours - my front doesn't seem to grow as fast as the back!  I still haven't had a haircut, but thinking next month of getting it shaped.

Kim, I would love to see a current pic.  My hair is still really curly.  The flat iron and I have become very good friends!

CAYH !!!!! Your hair is beautiful ! OMG I hope mine grows out just like that. I have a good deal of gray and curl anyway. Wish it would turn platinum ! Would sure save me some money on hair coloring. If I come back in curlier....oh my...could look like a poodle !

Hey thanks beautiful girls...I am grateful for the encouragement. So many pretty faces, you would look good with any hair.  I've always had long hair, but  today I was talking to a fellow survivor at the hospital (rads tx), she said " by summer you won't have to wear a wig on the beach, you will be able to go natural with a hat."  I was able to picture it.  Just another adjustment on the journey. Sending good wishes to all....

Thanks island mom. I like it better this color. I don't wear my hat on warmer days. If I get warm while I am out somewhere the hat comes off./p>

Waiting........My PFC was July 16th and I went topless on October 27th. (about 14 weeks).  I did have to color it first which made it look more full (I didn't realize how much gray I really had).  I used a semi-permanent color.  I'm now 8 1/2 months PFC and my hair is very thick, full and curly. I never had curl before.  I've not had it cut yet but I think I'm going to need to break down and get a trim.

I thought I would check back in with everyone. I started going topless about a year ago, which was 3-4 months after finishing chemo:

    I looked like this:

    .

Today I had my 3rd or 4th haircut since finishing chemo:

    . .

I plan to keep it short, but get it long enough for a sort of short, blunt bob.

What a cute style! I've had one trim since April 2012.  Now that Herceptin is finished the growth is speeding up thank God. I'm going to give it another month and get another trim to shape it up a bit.  Nowhere near as long as yours though!

Hello all!  I am at 6 months PFC.   My hair is only 1 1/2" and straight, fine and thin.  I can still see my scalp on the top and sides.  The back is the only part that looks good.  Would love to hear what products (shampoo's and gels) everyone is using for the same type of hair.  I am going on vacation next week and I really don't want to wear my wig since I haven't worn it in a month.  I occasionally go out with nothing on my head but feel like I'm getting weird looks.  I haven't really gotten into any products yet but I think it's about time.  I have tried my husband's gel a few times which is Loreal and I need something of my own but don't know what to do to give my hair some kind of style. Would love some help!

Hi ladies~  I don't know if this question has been asked and I thank you for allowing me to ask again.  What is a "safe" time frame for having hi-lites?  I'm missing my little bit of 'blondeness".

My final chemo was last May 31st.  I went "topless" at home in the summer; and in social situations beginning around Sept./Oct.  I kept the wig on at school (work) until I returned from winter break.   I'm currently a light brown curly top.., somewhat different than pre-bc.., I was light brown with highlights and waves.

Any advice on a time-line for highlights?

    Thanks!!  Smile

C-squared, I have had my hair highlighted twice, and I finished chemo at the beginning of May 2012.  My hairdresser felt like 6 months was the benchmark for permanent color and highlights, although she said it shouldn't really matter since the dye doesn't touch the scalp when she foils my hair.  I think she was more worried about damage to my fragile post-chemo hair than the chemicals.  I am no expert, but I think you should do whatever you need to make yourself feel beautiful and more like "you"!

I never had highlights, but, my hair is not taking the non permanent dye I used before chemo like my hairdresser likes it- she says it is dull. I said " put highlights in". She said it was too fragile right now for that. I'm 32 weeks PFC. I personally know nothing about highlights beyond that comment- but, others probably do.

    Momine....love the hairstyle...thanks for posting!

I just had my first hair salon appt. at 1 year PFC and it felt wonderful!

My hair dresser recommended a shampoo and conditioner called "Mane and Tail" available at Sally's beauty store. She said that many hairdressers swear by it for speeding up hair growth...so i am going to give it a try. It is currently on sale...buy one get one this month. I had been using Nioxin, but have never heard anyone mention Mane and Tail. Has anyone tried this product?

Mane & Tail is also available at Walgreens & Walmart as well as on Amazon. Don't laugh but it was originally made for horses. It's been around for years and a relatively inexpensive product. several years ago I had my package design students redesign the packaging. Now 2013 they still haven't changed it. They so need a re-branding.

BTW the hoofmaker nail & hand moisterizer is supposed to be amazing.

    Lagos...that is so funny!

You're not kidding about the package design needing an update.

I am a graphic designer also, and when I purchased the shampoo yesterday I thought the package design and logo looked liked something from the 70s...LOL!

Hate to say this but I've met a lot of art & design people who have/had breast cancer. I wonder if it was something in the rubber cement, srpay mount or paint.
