When we have painful memories from hurting experiences, we may feel justified in holding on to the resentment. But resentment is corrosive. It doesn't affect the person we feel anger toward, it destroys the host.

I'm back home and caught up on posts this morning. Relieved to learn that Petite had no damage. Betrayal, your situation is proof that life can be unfair. At least a problem has been discovered and is being fixed. Glad your trip was good. I completely agree that a tour is not a vacation. We do not plan to take any more tours in the future. One big attraction of the Viking river cruise next April is unpacking once in our stateroom.

Our stop in Oklahoma to visit my brother and his wife was fun. His daughter was there with her dh and Roan, 20-month-old son. He is precocious and couldn't be cuter if he tried.

The weather was great on all our travel days. I probably did more driving than I usually do. Everything was fine when we arrived home. Today will be grocery shopping and unpacking and settling into our permanent home.

I'm sorry MM has dropped out. I enjoyed her posts.

I have always been a believer in climate change and I think we're seeing proof of it in the weather events that seem to become more violent as years go on. I recently read an article in WAPO or NYT about how a reverse migration is expected to take place as people move away from coasts and flood prone areas. Older people and poorer people may be left behind. Helene showed us that even inland states are not safe from huge hurricanes. Apologies if I have broken the "rules" by discussing a controversial subject.

    Happy Thursday to everyone.

Carol, you are okay. You didn't break any rules. The only distress we feel is that religion and political discussions are not okay since it is too easy to get into judgmental areas as well as a disallowance of individual freedoms if you do not "wear the same set of shoes I do". We have always made that a strong practice here. Weather is not political discourse for sure even though in so many cases politicians have so much influence on weather which can be correct or possibly no actions are taken, or they are just wrong.

I had read similar, perhaps the same article and believe it to be true. Not totally aware of how Ins. really works as through the years we have not used ours, even when we probably could, but it is easy to understand that while the many paying in and not needing to use what they pay for allows others to benefit from possibly huge restorations is great until too much happens in one area much more than once. I think as said — if you can no longer afford something then an alternation solution is to change your situation. It is those who as mentioned by age or funds are forced to stay in place.

Something to be said about not messing with Mother Nature. We went where it wasn't that safe, build things up while being destructive with all sorts of things on the Earth (like de-foresting and in the atmosphere, going through the ozone and not replenishing what we have taken from a very generous Mother Earth. I keep hoping for a lot more wake-up to not stalling more.

I went for my physical this morning. She gave me the over 65 pneumonia shot, scripts for bloodwork, and said I was good. My knee, we both think IT band, so I’m back on the naproxen. If my knee isn’t feeling better by Monday she wants me to go to the orthopedic walk-in to get it checked out. Set me up for a physical next year.

I puttered in the garage again, attempting to get rid of stuff. I found 5 of the wires used to hold down the winter cover. Tossed 1, rewound the others…I’m not sure why I’m keeping them. One is on the pool, I doubt I’ll ever need an extra. Garbage night is Monday, so I have until then to toss the ones I straighten out. If one extra is good, are 4 others better?! Ha! The answer is no.

Grandniece and I fixed up our scarecrows for Fall. The “head” had been wrapped in burlap, which mice ate up. We wrapped it with a muslin, cut out felt eyes, nose and cheeks and did a quick whip stitch- I stapled the face to the styrofoam head, ha! It only has to last a few weeks, before it will be stored back in the garage with the mice. We did get giggling, the girl scarecrow - we made her nose on the large side!

It’s beautiful out today and I think more of the same is expected tomorrow.

Taco, new paint is an eye opener. DH should pick up on how bright and clean it is, vs what other things you want done.

Carole, glad you made it home safe and sound. Having good weather for the trip home is a plus!

You will not grow if you sit in a beautiful flower garden, but you will grow if you are sick, if you are in pain, if you experience losses, and if you do not put your head in the sand, but take the pain and learn to accept it, not as a curse or punishment but as a gift to you with a very, very specific purpose.    -Elisabeth Kuebler-Ross

Carole, glad you are home once in in LA safe and sound. Now to get to the odds and ends of un-packing and all that. How nice to be able to share some family time in Okla. on the way home too.

Sunny outside but only about 65 degrees just now. Fall is definitely in the air with our cooler nights and earlier darkness in the early evenings. I don't mind this time of year too much since the temps do back off from a lot of the summer heat. Just have to keep the lawn tractors in good order for our two acres of falling leaves.

My empty box arrived. I will be sending back the special recording machine I had to use to send blood pressure readings to the Marion V.A. Turns out — all seems fine. In part I think due to my increased ejection fraction and medication adjustments which were taking place all during the 6 months of using this machine. So, it will be packaged up and sent back. I was able to give the blood pressure cuff to Dh. They won't take those back, but it is a really nice one and Dh does need to keep a check on his blood pressure — he will no longer have to use my cuff and will have his own.

Some little things to do today — bank deposit, go after another bag of dog food etc. Not a lot but have-to's all the same. Hmm, it will make me move outside a bit more which is always good for me.

I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Not sure why Elizabeth Kuebler-Ross felt pain is a gift with a "very, very specific purpose" and don't agree with her on that aspect. Anyone who suffers from chronic pain knows that getting relief is next to impossible in today's healthcare environment, so many suffer without relief.

Spent yesterday recovering from painful knees and hope that orthopod will inject left knee with Orthovisc next week. Using Voltaren gel but it offers only temporary relief so sleep is interrupted.

Today is supposed to be sunny but so far is just overcast but warmer than yesterday. Need to move mums DD bought me to front porch.

Will try to organize restoration by talking to mold remediation company first to determine who should go first, them or the plumber? Good thing I called because it will be necessary to do mold work first, then plumber and lastly restoration of walls. Scheduled mold work to start on 10/16 since I have doctor appointments next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and the following week on Monday and Tuesday. They need consecutive5 days so that works best for me and them. Once that is done I'll schedule plumber and then they can do restoration. Guy I spoke to said there was no evidence of a leak in the crawl space and water they found there was overflow from leak behind refrigerator.

So hopefully by 11/1 all will be done and I will have my house back? Provided them with info about paint colors they will need since I have a document that lists all work done in each room, when it was done and particulars about paint colors, etc. as well as a "needs to be done" list that includes plans for each room.

DGD will turn 9 on 10/12 and DDIL and DS have family party scheduled for that day. I bought her some very soft and colorful socks at Marks and Spencer and H & M in London. DD had given her the ones I had that were too small for her and she loved them. Found ones with unicorns on them that she will love. She will also get a gift certificate for something she would like. Her other GM likes to buy her clothes so I don't compete. Looking forward to this family get together.

Carole, welcome home and glad you are safe.

Taco, you will feel like you are living in a new home after the painting is done. Seems if you only paint one room it has a tendency to make the other rooms look like they need to be addressed, so good you are doing them all at once.

Cindyny, sorry to hear about the knee and hope it resolves soon. Love to read about what you and your grand niece get into. It sounds like so much fun.

Illinoislady, so glad your ejection fraction improvement and meds titration mean you can send the bp equipment back. Freedom!!!

Hope everyone has a good day. Have a feeling of accomplishment even if I am still sitting in the midst of chaos. Baby steps towards regaining an organized home.

The knee seems ok, naproxen helps. No intense pain today, yet.

I’m puttering between the garage and the back porch, cleaning out crap. I found bags …full of bags. LOL Florida gives out plastic bags at stores; I use them in bathroom & bedroom trash bins, or to give for carrying home leftovers etc… NY doesn’t give out any plastic bags at stores. So we bring some home, FL to NY. Well obviously we’ve brought home too many! I’m hoping gf’s can use them, I don’t want them in the landfill.

Another thing I found was a lot of bubble wrap, that I’ve kept for shipping stuff. But let me be honest, I rarely ship things of a breakable nature (last tine was books). I’ll see if others can use it so it doesn’t end up in the landfill either.

Anyone want to sing me the song from “Frozen” …let it go, let it go! I’m listening.

I wish our stores would stop using plastic bags and force us all to use reusable bags.

Today I'm at the stage of doing laundry and cleaning. In a few days I will have completed the mental transition.

Betrayal, I admire your calm acceptance of an expensive home disruption.

Taco, are you using one paint color or more than one?

Jackie, you seem to be doing very well. You can pat yourself on the back for following doctors' instructions and doing your part of being healthy.

I miss MM, Sandy and Chris and others who aren't checking in. Hope they're all doing well.

No doubt we would all agree with the sentiment: “There’s more to life than things.” Yet much of our lives seem to be spent in the acquisition, maintenance, and disposal of material goods.  Certainly we cannot enjoy the basics of food, shelter, and clothing without a concern for things. The truly important things of life, however, are those which cannot be encountered by the physical senses, purchased with money, or placed on a shelf. When we take a look at what we value most in life, we generally find family, friends, health, peace, contentment, laughter, helping others, and communion with God foremost on our list of priorities.

Good Morning to all. It is once again sunny out this a.m. I think it got up to 83 yesterday so not as cool as it had been. Have to see what comes today. No big plans, but I didn't get to the bank yesterday so will try and get it done today. Lil' Red hurt his leg/paw and is limping a little so daughter watched him while Dh and I ran to the store for some supplies — so, didn't do everything on the list yesterday.

Lil' Red still is favoring his foot this morning so no more outings for him til it's better. I have plenty here to do but had planned going to Jo's and taking Red to play with her dogs. Also being a huge animal lover too Jo likes to see Red, but some other time.

I know plastic bags are an issue almost every where. We recycle so many of the plastic bags we bring home. Use to take them to the nearby church who used to send cooked meals home to people if you were willing to go pick up the food. So, they always got a lot of our slightly used bags. Sadly, as so often happens, they now have to insist the people stay at the Church and eat the food. They only gave out meals twice a week, but seems people were often asking for at least a week's worth of meals at one time —- it was felt they were taking advantage of not having to cook at home for that long. I found that strange that anyone would want to eat the same thing for one meal a day all week long, but you can figure out when privileges are abused. I thought it so wonderful that the Church was willing to institute a program like helping those in need with food twice a week and hate that people abuse a loving helping hand. Seems to be the way of the world often though.

We also have in a couple of stores (Walmart is one) huge boxes where you can return the used plastic bags to be re-cycled. It always amazes me to see the box when full. We are wasteful with so many things and it is sort of a painful reality. We are fortunate here that we not only have receptables to take back plastic bags, but an actual re-cycling center was built here a few years before I returned home to live in 1997. That is a god-send for those who want to return cans, bottles, newspapers etc.

Also, although they just raised the prices to pay for it, we can now call the city services and have any of our large waste items (old refrigerator, tv's etc.) picked up just by calling. City used to do this for free twice a yr. They are not charging that much more, but of course, you pay all year for maybe calling them once or twice. Still — nice to know you are not stuck with large un-wanted things like household items or waste from remodel projects etc. Progress does have to be paid for.

Hope you all have a great day.

Hugs to all with any healing/health issues and restoration woes etc.

Hi to all unable to post for any reason.

petite1, hope that Milton looses steam and doesn't reach solid ground.

It is a sunny day, with temp at 70 and pleasant outside. DH is puttering around out there and I am going to address some sweeping up around the house. Hard to clean with refrigerator sitting within one foot of island. Can open freezer door with ease but not refrigerator side so access is a limited and a pain.

Bumble Bee is singing away. Seems he likes the TV being on even if it is shows and commercials and not the music channel.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Carole, you’re on track to be back to “normal” soon. The transition takes time and wears me out. I miss the additional ladies too.

Jackie, I hope Lil Red gets full use of his foot soon. It always scared me when my dog had issues like that, but they’re resilient. Thank you for the reminder, I think somewhere around here has a bag recycle box. If gf’s don’t want them I’ll look into that. About 6+ of us are meeting on Wednesday evening to address postcards to Georgia registered voters to get the vote out. I hope one of those ladies can use some bags & bubble wrap.

Petite, the swatch of Milton, if it’s to be believed, goes from Big Bend down to Naples, with a main hit in Tampa area. I’ll be watching the Weather channel. Tonight we recurved alerts that Fort Myers was expected to get 3+ inches of rain on top of previous 2”, it was a flash flood warning. Like Betrayal said about Milton, I hope it breaks up before hitting land.

Betrayal, Bumble Bee has to be happy you’re home. Glad he enjoys the company of the TV.

We went to Hudson, NY this afternoon for Oktoberfest. My partner put me in to win tickets and surprisingly I did win. The street was blocked off, we received a stein, and a ticket for a free fill of beer. Many craft breweries were there, multiple bands, as well as food set ups. We ate from a food truck - a brat, schnitzel and fresh cut French fries. Seating was varied, at one point we sat at a picnic type table. We met a great couple from Connecticut who have a second home in Jax, FL. Later we sat with 2 couples that live local but were from Boston, upstate NY and the Bronx. A great afternoon with great weather too. The ride down was very pretty with so many trees changing color.

The brewery is in an old train station. Partner spoke with the dad of the guy who owns it. He told him it was vacant for 75 years, and you wouldn’t believe the amount of work that went into it. I should have taken a picture of the roof line, you’d know from the look it was a train depot.

That’s my day. We were home about 6 pm, and it felt much later. Tomorrow is expected to be sunny, but not real warm. I want to keep going on the back porch clean out. I hope you all have a great Sunday!

I agree with Betrayal about the Kuebler-Ross comment. I don't need that much "learning."

Interior of the house will be all one color - Sherwin Williams "Sand Beach" with slightly off white for doors and baseboards. Right now virtually every room is a different color and some rooms have more than one and generally much darker shades. It will be a change!

I've already started looking for replacements for the living room couches and chairs. I'm finding it very hard to find chairs on the small side that have an ottoman, which I need to keep my feet elevated because of my knees. Left one is doing well but the right has never been right, even after surgery.

Next will be carpeting in the 2 bedrooms and the den but probably not until after the holidays. Our bedroom is especially in need of replacement. For the 58 years we've been married, Ken has worried about spending money and it's has been a struggle to get this far. As far as I'm concerned, this is my travel money.

Petite and Cindy - stay safe. The east coast definitely doesn't need more rain.

Petite - prayers for you and all Floridians that Milton falls apart and spares the southeast USA from additional rain.

Taco - I think you will be very happy with a new interior paint job. We did a new interior paint color on the entire house a few (well actually 6 years) ago and it really lightened up everything.

Cindy- Oktoberfest sounds like lots of fun. Hopefully the knee will continue to improve.

Jackie - I hope Lil Red feels better soon. Pets are like children and we worry when they are ill or injured.

Betrayal - I admire your calm approach to the restoration. I hope it’s done to your satisfaction and over quickly.

Carole - happy to hear you are back home safely.

I’ve really enjoyed the nice weather the past week and it looks like we will have lovely weather for the upcoming week. We’ve been out walking and hiking although I’m slow. Got on my bike today for only the 2nd time since I was diagnosed. Managed a little over 5 miles. I hope to get some level of fitness back before we leave on vacation later this month.

It seems that e-bikes with a throttle (not pedal assist) have become very popular in my neighborhood. These bikes can go up to 20 mph. My concern is that it seems to be kids that range in age from about 10 yo to mid teens that are riding these bikes. They do wear full face helmets, but if they wipe out they are risking broken bones, nasty road rash and possibly worse. My other concern is they are riding these on sidewalks and on paths in city parks which is illegal. I don’t want to sound like a cranky old lady but I do worry that I could get run over as I’ve had a few close calls. IMO, kids this young don’t have the maturity to make decisions associated with driving that fast. Do you see these e-bikes in your area?

    Have a great Sunday!

“Call it enchantment, the difference between the time-bound and the timeless, between us and the otherworldly. All beauty and art evoke harmonies that transport us to a place where, for only seconds, time stops and we are one with the world. It is the best life has to offer. Under the spell of beauty, we experience a rare condition called plenitude, where we want for nothing.”

Kids with healthy legs should be pedaling their bikes. Same with small children riding in battery powered cars. My mind skips to an article I read in the New Orleans newspaper this morning about the police academy. A number of potential policemen and policewoman don't make the grade because they can't measure up physically. To graduate, the applicants have to pass some physical requirements like running two miles.

I, too, hope Milton doesn't develop into a hurricane but the Gulf water is warm. What a strange path. I don't remember seeing one similar.

Taco, your paint choice sounds very pleasing. I suspect the change will be dramatic and that you'll love it. I have two small rooms that need repainting, a connecting half bath and laundry room. I have gone so far as pick out paint chips but haven't bought the paint. I'm the designated painter and haven't worked up the courage. I can't imagine a painter would be interested in such a small job.

Our weather forecast shows temperatures lowering below 70 degrees in the mornings. A good sign of cooler temperatures in future months.

More laundry today and more cleaning.

    Happy Sunday.

So hoping that Milton does not cause the upheaval that seems possible. That said, I do think a lot of rain may come and that will still be a touchy issue for many so prayers and hope in advance that it settles out well before the shoreline.

Sorry about my quote. I obviously found the opposite. In my life review I discovered that (in many cases) I learned more from what was wrong then from what was right. Those things that are right are usually seen as normal and expected and so we move on.

I became grateful for the things that hurt me because I found I could forgive past hurts, just like I could forgive people and release myself from the pain so as to grow from an experience, rather than be stuck with too many un-resolved issues. I felt healed and became who I am just because those things were negative enough that I needed to choose a path of growth through forgiveness and while it took a long time and wasn't easy, the distinction became for me that we don't always learn much from what is right, but learning from what goes wrong can be tremendous, almost overwhelming. Also, we get quicker, more solid growth and for me certainly that life is designed in ways that can give so much benefit. I wanted to be open to the benefit of full understanding — so I chose to accept and understand my pain and get from it rather than have it take from me.

Another sunny day. Dh said rain was expected. Not sure where he got that because the rain he said was coming yesterday never did. I hope we have another dry day or two as we only just got somewhat dryer. The rains from Helene got it pretty wet around here and I always worry that one of the trees might let loose. Now and then we hear crashes in the ravine, and it often is a tree going over. So far this hasn't taken place directly in our yard and hope it never does.

Hope you all are going to have a beautiful Sunday.

Taco, my living room is painted SW Sand Beach and I had my furniture reupholstered by Calico Corners since all the new furniture seems to be oversized. I am short so with most of the new furniture my feet would not reach the floor and I felt like Alice in Wonderland. The furniture was from Ethan Allen so worth reupholstering and I picked shades of robins egg blue. One male serviceman told me the living room was beautiful and figuring most men don't relate on that level, I was pleased. The color glows when the sun hits the room and I think you will be pleased with it.

I am hoping that the path of Milton proves to be one that veers out to sea given the destruction left by Helene. I am so glad that while I like to visit FL, I never wanted to live there. I do have family members who have homes there and so far they have been spared but if Milton follows the predicted path, not sure they will be.

Carole, painting was something I always enjoyed doing but my knees and ladders don't agree now. The last room I painted was the powder room and I took my time. It is a small room but I do like to apply 2 coats so I spread it out over 2 days. Then I had DB paint the laundry room for me. I want to paint the dining room but will hire DB to do it and it might not get done anytime soon. I have the color selected and have contenders painted on the wall but the restoration will have to come first and that involves painting in both the hallway and the just painted garage interior.

I agree with you about kids with healthy legs needing to pedal. Funny how gyms in the younger age groups have become a substitute for exercise that is free such as bike riding, walking, hiking, swimming, etc. Plus so many school systems have cut gym from the curriculum.

Illinoislady, hope Lil' Red's foot is now weight bearing again. Could you see any injury?

Cindyny, the door way to that building was absolutely beautiful with the black door and the wreath. The beer fest sounds like fun. We like trying new beers/ciders in each country we visit and have had some good ones over the years.

harley, I have decided I am "resilient" after all these opportunities for restoration. We have had 2 tree strikes to the house (15 years apart) meaning massive restorations, and now this. I am not necessarily a patient person at times but have learned if I want things returned to their previous condition, I must exert some patience. Plus, I really don't have a choice here, the house needs to be returned to normal.

For some reason, I was also very patient with my students even those who were trying my last nerve. I guess it was because I could imagine where they were coming from and that learning was blocked if they were afraid.

It is sunny today and only at 60 degrees now. I am hoping it will warm up some because I want to run to the grocery store after cleaning the bird cages. Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday.

I tried to have a normal morning and went to church and out to lunch with my friends. There is an attitude of defeat. So sad. I think some people will not evacuate, as they are saying "there is no place to go." After getting bummed out, I went to store and found there is a run on Toilet paper, paper towels and water. I had to go home and decompress before getting in a gas line. I feel like the eye will be going in around St. Petersburg/Tampa. Which is bad for them, but better for my area. There is so much flooding down there from just rain, then Helene, and now this. It won't be good.

Going back out for gas and more supplies. I will keep you all updated.

Practice being gentle, respectful and loving toward the life force in all things. Remind yourself that your efforts do make a difference, even if you think they are miniscule in comparison to the magnitude of the problem.

Just met with restoration manager and it seems that insurance company did not include insulation for crawl space area, insulation under pantry projection and flooring under refrigerator. He will make contact with insurance adjuster to see if he can get these covered under the claim. He would like to have the guys start the end of this week and will get back to me about this. The sooner we get started, the sooner they are done and we can get our house back to normal.

DH had a dizzy episode while I was out yesterday running errands. I came home to find him on the phone with DD and found out that he called her rather than 911! Needless to say I was annoyed because she was in DE and not close enough to be of much help to him. So I brought in the groceries needing refrigeration and then took him to the ER. He was there from around 3 PM to after 8 PM so I am glad I came home. They did a CT scan and MRI of his head, EKG, and had neurology evaluate him. I was there for the neuro eval and he felt it was more likely an inner ear issue. His BP was sky high and not due to just the ER visit so he has to see PCP and ENT. Got an appointment with his PCP and is waiting to hear about scheduling a Balance test before ENT will see him. He has balance issues which he denies, went to PT for balance exercises and probably hasn't done them since though tells me does (so them let me sell you a bridge).

He announces today he is going to go to where he worked on Thursday for the day and was immediately shot down since it is over an hour drive, inner city and in neighborhoods that I don't want to drive in. Told him he has to have doctor clearance from PCP and ENT first before doing any distance driving.

BTW, he wants no part of participating in this restoration and I am a bit miffed that he continues to dump things like this on me. I am the better manager but today I asked that he meet with the restoration manager and he stays in the basement with the dog claiming he misunderstood my message.

Today was a nice day with temps just under 70 and sunny. I spent most of the day indoors doing little chores and will spend the next 3 days at doctor's appointments so I will get my sunshine then.

Feels good to drive again so tomorrow I will most likely go to TJMaxx on my way home. Haven't been there in ages.

The Phillies won last night and that was a good thing. The game was a real cliffhanger until the 9th inning so a great game.

Hope everyone had a great day.

This is my third attempt at posting. Someone calls or texts and when I get back all my post is a blank slate. I post using my phone.

I went to our “walk in” orthopedic offices this morning for my knee - while I was there I let them know the naproxen isn’t helping the shoulder. They did an X-ray on both. My knee is bone on bone, with arthritis and they gave me a cortisone shot. My shoulder apparently has significant arthritis on the top portion, which causes me no pain. It’s the bicep tendon that hurts. I’m scheduled for an ultrasound guided shot in the tendon sheath on 10/21 - same day as mammo & ultrasound! Busy dr day.

Petite, I think your area is safe, or safer than it was with Helene. Fort Myers looks like it’s going to take a hit based on 2 different predictions, all depending on where in Tampa it hits, or Sarasota.

I have a handyman that paints. He’ll do any size job. And now I can’t remember which one of you was getting the interior of their house painted! But it sounds like a nice color. In FL all rooms have the same color, except wallpapered areas. In NY, all rooms are a different color paint.

Electric bicycles- in FL many adults use them as a mode of transportation. In NY I see less use overall (I’d say weather but I’m not here in winter). But at the park where I walk there is an older gentleman who uses one, but he pedals the entire time. Kids need to use a regular bike, get out & get exercise. No reason I can come up with for a kid to use one.

Betrayal, I get the feeling of being stuck with the restoration guys. I rarely ask for help, but when I ask for an assist, I really need it. I hope they get the insurance to pick up all the costs.

It was sunny today and felt great until it got windy. We took the AC unit out of the bedroom window. I have 3 slices in my ring finger from touching the metal fins on the back. I’m supposed to rest the knee for the next 48 hours, so no extra cleaning out anything on my agenda. Hope you all had a good day!

Sorry to say I've been hearing distressing news about Hurricane Milton. Seems in just 18 hrs. it has gone from Category 1 to 5. It is expected that it will slow coming ashore, but to a 3 or 4. The issue with that is slower stays longer and the storm surge could then be higher.

It is well beyond my imagination to think what people will have to go through, but I hope as many as possible can leave and go elsewhere. It sounds very dangerous. Prayers.

Our friend Dorothy, whose dh died summer of 2023 at their lake home in MN, is now in Fort Myers, at their winter home. She is 90. I'm concerned about her because Fort Myers is in the red zone of the predicted landfall. I suggested she try to get a motel room farther south in FL. She replied that all the motel rooms are booked. I do hope she will evacuate. Also that some family member will step up to help her. Money is not an issue.

Betrayal, I'm sorry your dh is having problems with dizziness and balance. It sounds like he is leaving you totally in charge of the restoration work. Your restoration guy seems to be good and that's a plus.

I had some dizziness this summer and vertigo that I attributed to sinus issues. When I see my PCP for a checkup, I'll tell her about it. I had the sinus congestion and violent sneezing all summer. Once inside the camper I knelt down to pick something up, and the vertigo made me tumble to one side on the carpeted floor. No damage done but made me extra cautious.

Connie/Puffin is still alive but does not have any quality of life. I find reading the updates very distressing and sad. There comes a point when the kindest thing would seem to be death. She no longer wants visitors.

Petite, I hope you are safe from Milton.

I plan to do shopping today at Walmart's and Sam's for basics.

The world is so empty if one thinks only of mountains, rivers, and cities; but to know someone who thinks and feels with us, and who, though distant, is close to us in spirit, this makes the earth for us an inhabited garden.

Beautiful cool Fall morning here in my neck of the woods in mid-Illinois. Carole, I do hope your friend is able to find refuge from the coming storm. SIL's brother lives in Lakeland? Fla. It sounds like he needs to leave and go elsewhere to. SIL says he will likely go stay at his sisters who lives far enough away not to be much affected. I sure hope so anyway.

Thanks so much as well Carole for the update on Puffin. I'm sure it is hard to hear and we are fortunate that you are willing to share the information with us. I imagine all of us feel the same devastation for such a wonderful person who went seemingly from wellness to the worst health situation possible in what seemed the blink of an eye.

Nothing much here but a couple of later bills to attend to which should leave some time for my 'listed items' that get some of the freed-up attention when things are quiet enough here.

I hope you will all have a good day. My thoughts will definitely be on Florida and that part of the world where Milton will be making itself known.
