Diagnosed on Monday, 4/12/10 on my 49th Birthday with results from Core Biopsy   Stage tbd but most likely stage 1.  Getting the BRCA gene test and following the guidelines is hopfully saving my life for early dx and treatment.

Is it my imagination but is the initial diagnosis year getting younger....?  They say the norm is 50-60... but there are so many 30's in the deck.

I'm not sure this board visitors might serve as a representative stats. After all, the older the person the less likely he/she will post on the Internet.

But it's not secret that this dang disease is getting younger.

43, and on my first mammogram. Ironically I decided to wait because of the research coming out of the cancer center I worked at. My diagnosis came out the day before the new 'recs' (wrecks?) Surgen & Onc are convinced mammo saved me from stage IV, lump was right near middle chest wall and wouldn't have been felt for ages.

    Hi,

I was 49 when first dx and 54 when dx with mets to bone, liver and various other spots.

I agree with you and both of my daughter's have started mammo's before 35 because of me.

Happy Mother's Day to those mom's out there.

26, Thought I was stage IIb at first. Pre-chemo routine testing found liver mets. So I'm stage IV at diagnosis.

I had just turned 40 2 weeks prior but my first mammo at 38 showed questionable "shadows."   They say mine took 5 years to grow so maybe they better start checking us at 25!  Seriously, though, I think the age should be dropped to 30 for first mammos.

I was 62.  I've been getting mamograms since I was in my 40's.  For last 2 years my mamo showed "questionable" area.  Then I had compression mamo & ultrasounds every 6 months for 3 times - but after this last mamo, dr advised that I needed a biopsy.  Stage IIA - one node.  Ladies -- if you have a bad mamo with area dr wants to "watch," be aggressive & ask for a biopsy.  Don't wait like I did!!

    39.  And I must say, it is incredibly mind-crushingly sad and discouraging that about 1/2 the folks who posted here had recurrence.  I feel like my life is going down the tubes.

    IDC 1.2 cm 0/3 nodes stage 1 grade 3

I was 31 with my original-supposedly "clear" non-digital mammo and less than a year later @ 32 found a 1.7cm lump. Turned out to be three lesions IDC with DCIS in all four quads. Now 34 with mets to lung, liver, bone and lymph. I would love to have a copy of that original mammo!

I am 60 and just diagnosed.  Hotsya, you CAN get a copy of your 1st mammo.  It is your right under the law to request your medical records.  I have all of mine and keep them current with each test.

BarbaraJo50, just came from genetic testing - was neg for BRCA 1 and 2.  But, just because those genes were negative, there are plenty more out there that have not been discovered yet.  My dad had it twice, my aunt on my dad's side and my sister last year.
