Luna5:  I agree on Life Extension...a good company of which I've been a member for years.  I also buy from Vitacost...good products.  LOL...the docs really do love their statins don't they...those things will kill you!  Better to follow a good diet and exercise program.

After I had my decision made about foregoing rads in favor of my natural plan, my RO called and talked my ear off for a half hour trying to change my mind.  I had to explain in careful detail to her that I understood my risks and was willing to take them for a healthier QOL.  I told her that I would save the big guns in case I had a recurrence which I don't expect to have because I am doing everything possible to keep this bc from recurring.  She seemed genuinely concerned, so I'm not upset, just worn out from the constant reminder that I am going against "standard of care".  I'm trying to move on with my new normal which consists of diet, supplements, exercise, and constant monitoring of my condition.  I wish people would just respect my decision.  Fortunately, my family supports this 100%.

Re supplements-Just look to see if they are manufactured according to pharma standands, not just food grade. This ensures that they will help responsible for making sure the ingredients are pure and the amounts of nutrients are as stated on the bottle. There are only a few companies that have pharma standards for all of their products. Often they are only available through doctors. This is why I chose Usana. Anybody can buy it, and it is cheaper than what doctors charge.

Brownstein is a quack and Mike Adams is one of the biggest fear mongering altie lunatics out there. I would suggest staying away from natural news unless you want a good laugh.  Orac wrote about Mike Adams and his nauralnews website today:

Since I wrote about a man who is arguably the biggest seller of quackery on the Internet, namely Joe Mercola, yesterday, I thought I'd turn my attention to someone who is arguably another of the biggest promoters of quackery on the Internet, namely Mike Adams of NaturalNews.com. If Joe Mercola is proof positive that quackery sells, Mike Adams is proof positive that there are conspiracy theorists out there who are so reality-challenged that they'll believe virtually anything. Whether it's his despicable assaults on dead celebrities as having been "killed by modern medicine," his constant stream of antivaccine fear mongering, or his hilariously inept attempt to out-Chopra Deepak Chopra while mixing in liberal helpings of pure unadulterated fevered conspiracy mongering, truly no one brings home the crazy about alternative medicine the way that Mike Adams does. As a result, he's a major force on the Internet, at least in the realm of quackery and attacking science=-based medicine. True, he doesn't appear to be nearly as good at marketing wares for huge profits, but he sure does appear to be good at marketing himself. While Mercola is cold and calculating about how to make money; Mike Adams appears to be just as calculating, but he's more about stirring up emotion and conspiracy theories. Unfortunately, he seems to be pretty good at it.

I must admit that I have a bit of a fascination for Mike Adams. I have a rational mind (or, at least, I try to have a rational mind); so it's really hard to wrap my brain around the sheer lunacy that is Mike Adams. There appears to be no conspiracy theory too outlandish for him to buy into uncritically, no charge against big pharma too unbelievable. In fact, I have a hard time deciding whether Adams is a true believer who really lives his paranoid world view or a scammer with a talent for tapping into the paranoia of the more gullible. I suspect it's a little of both but leaning towards the former. After all, a man who can produce a video in which science is portrayed as an unrelenting force for evil probably must at some level believe that science is an unrelenting force for evil. Either that, or he's extremely good at lying and mimicking paranoia.

Whatever Adams' motivation, his penchant for bringing home the crazy was on full display last night in an article entitled Microsoft buys eugenics technology from Merck, becomes drug development partner with top global vaccine manufacturer. Somehow I ended up on Adams' NaturalNews.com mailing list a while back. Actually, I ended up on it twice, once per my two main blogging e-mail addresses, meaning that I get a double dose of crazy delivered to my in box every morning; so when this gem popped up I just couldn't resist. One of these days, fascination with this much concentrated misinformation might suck me past the event horizon of the black hole of crazy that is Mike Adams' website. Not today. Today, I take my amusement (and hopefully produce yours

Thanks for the notice, Vivre. I'm a big fan of Dr. Brownstein's.

He changed my life. I'll be listening. Can someone post it on Facebook?

Black Cat:  There are no right or wrongs here...people are entitled to their own opinions and the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.  I would prefer to see you research and write about something that could be of value on this site, such as the new cancer vaccine that is coming out.

Please give us your thoughts on that....particularly the part that indicates it is going to target killer T cells to help the body's immune system fight off cancers.  Interesting concept don't you think?

    Kaara,

This is not about right or wrong. It's about fact vs. fiction, evidence based science vs. tooth fairy science.  As thenewme has stated numerous times, this site is a magnet for newly diagnosed patients.  In the short time that I have been here, I have seen 3 people make very bad choices concerning evidence based treatment.   I have known people that had highly curable cancers that died because they choose quackery.    Too often, I see very dangerous information posted by people that have no understanding of the basic life sciences

Also, Kaara, just because my postings are not beneficial to you does not mean my postings are not meaningful for others.  I have received a significant amount of PM's from members of this board thanking me for my information.

Most newly diagnosed women that come here do not have a science background. They are very scared and confused.  Their physicians can only give them statistics and can't assue them that they won't fall on the wrong side of the statistics.  Science can only offer them uncertainty.  Quackery on the other hand will give them a thumb to suck, a warm fuzzy blanket to hold and a skirt to cling to.  That statement actually came from a physician.

I think that it is awesome that over the past few years vaccines are being studied not only to prevent cancer but to cure early stage cancer by having the immune system recognize and attack cancer cells.   Heres a good link:

I did some web searches on breast cancer vaccine.  There are a number of vaccines coming on line for clinical trials and one is already in trial.  What was most interesting to me was that one of the researchers was an immunoligist and he was looking at the whole issue of breast cancer from a completely different perspective.

I am very optimistic after reading the various approaches that we will very likely see a successful vaccine in the next 6 to 8 years.  Imagine a vaccine so we don't have to cut off our breasts or take poisons or radiation.  Imagine that.

That's the great thing about these vaccines.  They will boost the body's own immune system to target and kill the cancer cells.  This is why it's important, if at all possible, to keep our immune systems as healthy as possible, because it has been said that the treatment works better if you have a somewhat healthy immune system and have not undergone chemo treatments.

My understanding was that the vaccines worked better if you had not undergone A LOT of chemo and that the chemo was right before you took the vaccine.  So if you had chemo but then some years later had a metastasis or recurrence you could get the vaccine instead of going through chemo again. ????

I read that the first women to take the vaccine was early stage and had not yet gone through any other therapy. I hope that it works for her so that all of us can get it.

I wrote to the Roswell lab asking about information on the clinical trial and they responded that they had all the participants they needed.  They directed me to a site that gave more information on those that were eligible in the bc category.  It was mostly early stage HR- and HR+ but with larger tumors.  Also it said that they would have had to have completed chemo and rads, but could be taking endrocrine therapy.  Again, I think for the trial, to get the best idea of how the vaccine works, they are looking for those in a little higher risk category.  My tumor was early stage low grade and under 1 cm so I wouldn't have even quallified for the trial.  Prognosis too good.

    Very exciting stuff!

Yesterday I read an article about Bill Gates and his ties with the manufacturers of genetically modified organisms(I wouldn't go as far to call GMO's food) . He and the biotech industry promote this as a means to feed the growing population, mostly in poor countries. Unfortunately the result has been shown to produce exactly the opposite.

Those who use E3 vaginal suppositories:

One gal posted that she got them cheaper than what Helen Pesanti was charging, and I ordered mine from that same place that she mentioned, but now I have forgotten the name and I am due to order again. Any suggestions?

For the first time since this started I am getting all the test to find out the depth of the cancer, the involvement - IF ANY.  I have been undergoing holistic treatments and lifestyle changes from the beginning.  So this is telltale.  But Kaara, I am asking the same questions, why didn't the other doctors do the tests for CA, CEA, bone scan, CBC?????  I said I wanted the blood tests for cancer and was told there were none.  Really?  I thought there were, but I am so dang naive and was so involved in finding my path to healing, I had no time to look it up.  I was doing my part, but no prof did there's.  The surgeon even left a positive margin and called it close.  He drew a pic of a negative margin.  i am so naive!   AUGH But now I am in charge and having learned all I have, I am no longer as frightened.  I am also not going to be a yes, person ever again.

Luna - I use a sublingual Vitamin D3 spray, there are 5000 IUs in one spray under tongue.  Right to the bloodstream.  Many options online, I buy from health store near us.  Brand is L.A. Naturals.

Essa:  There are tests, but conventional doctors don't usually do them unless you have mets because they don't think they are reliable.  My naturopath said that it is possible that you could have some micro cells floating around that could not be detected, but if your body is in optimal condition your immune system will take care of those.  What you want to find are the ones that show up in a blood test...before they become a problem.  My test was negative..zero.  If nothing else, it was comforting to me to have that information.  If something had shown up, I would have considered getting more aggressive treatment.  It's very frustrating that you have to see several doctors to get what you need.

Today the blood tests were drawn - first ever so there is a baseline for future tests plus for the Poly MVA foundation research study I will participate in starting next week.  I know these blood tests are not a guarantee for cancer or no cancer within, but it is somewhat of a guideline for changes in my system.

I am uncertain to have the nuclear bone scan next week so researching what that entails and how to detox afterward aas seems to be like an MRI with the rad dye.  Will see what blood tests results are first.

I feel good but I am increasingly more stressed because of the smoke from neighbor that is in my home and froom the financial struggles to get the insurance and billing companies to do it right.  Need a home in the woods with a meadow view and to see sunrise and set from windows, peace and no smoke.  POd that it is taking us all these alternative therapies and to jump hoops medically to offset that ignorant man next door who is heating his friggin' house and shower water with unseasoned wood and garbage in an outside wood boiler (OWB).

I was always organic, always careful, didn't even use traditional deodorant or shampoo.... then hit by the OWB bomb WHAM and now survival is all I can think about for me, Hubby and my pets.

Anyone else feel like this bc came from a direct hit from outside themselves, cause and effect = BC?

Anyone use progesterone cream bioidentical?  As a vaginal suppository?  I loved my cream, hhelped so much but seems it can build up if used on skin too often.  Read the vaginal application works though.

Yeah, Althea! You go carry the Natural Girls' message to your clients. I miss seeing the oldtimers who have moved on to better groups.

I hope you can still PM them and let them know you have officially graduated. Remember us oldtimers! Laughing
